Hello, I hope this evening is finding you all well.

I have set up and am trying to maintain a private Ark Server Cluster running on a DellR710.

There are 2 CPUs with 10 Cores and 20 threads each assigned to the Windows VM runing Ark Server Manager (ASM).

At this time, each map has access to all 20 Threads which ASM sees as 20 Cores.

Today the VM CPU usage shot up to 100.34% with only 3 maps running and only 2 players on.

I have checked the logs and it shows Shootergame.exe using all of the CPU resources before I had to powercycle the Dell itself. the VM wouldn't shut down.

Would allowing each map in the cluster only access to a speicific number of cores in ASM instead of all 20 prevent a that from happening in the future?

Would I see any performance loss or would setting the limit to say, X be enough?

Any suggestions on X or is it a just keep at it until I find the sweet spot kind of thing?

Xeon X5690 (6 Core, 12 thread, 3.46GHz Base, 3.73GHz Turbo) x2

91.55GB PC-106000R DDR3 800MHz ECC

I'm trying to spawn in a lot of raw meat for event use. But the spawn code only spawns 1 stack no matter what amount I enter. Something I'm missing?

I would be more concerned about ram. With how PCs handle processes 10 cores is likly more than enough. Using near 100% of your CPU is normal. It'll split the processes between the cores by default to make the process load faster.

Splitting the cores between the server would probably just end up making a lot of your potential unused as some maps may have no people and others have majority.

Again though ram is gonna be the issue. Your gonna need about 10 gigs of ram per server for a good experience.

That is with 3 maps and 4 players on atm.

There is no reason my CPUs should spike to 100.34%.

When your ram runs low it will use more CPU. So, yeah. It's fairly normal running more than 1 server with those specs

Heya, I am on Xbox and @cosmic rapids is using the Windows 10 version through Game pass.
We're able to play together on dedicated servers that support cross platform. However, we recently decided we wanted to start a priv dedicated server of our own to play on together. I am hosting the server on my PC and going to be playing on my xbox (same network). Redbeast wants to join on his PC (diff network). Is there any additional step that needs to take place for us to play on the dedicated server? Curious if we're supposed to set up port forwarding and if so, what ports need to be forwarded for the Xbox/Win10 version?

Assuming you ar on Windows 10 and you have a default install your save files should be located in your:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\SavedArksLocal directory. You should be able to backup your current base world save to a different name and rename a copy of an earlier save file to the name used for the base world save file to recover your game...

For instance for The Island, a file named "TheIsland.ark" would be the base world save file to backup and for example a file named "TheIsland_02.11.2017_10.41.02.ark" would be a save file for that date and time and if you rename a copy of that file to "TheIsland.ark" you would essentially roll back to that save...

Better yet I’ll just ask it. So I just added a new map to my servers and made my server a cluster. But for some reason when my players transfer their character over to the new map their character are reset to level 1. But if they go to an OB and interact with it they get all their stuff back but their character stays they same. Is there something I can do to fix this?

they're both Eco's, so they won't cause errors with each other, or shouldn't

i've used CKF for a while and yeah, they go together very well

CKF is a very good mod i really recommend, especially because their structure pieces use less assets than the vanilla ones so having big bases won't use as many server resources

i was thinking about creating an RTS game for Ark called ARK:TS (Total Survival).
similar to style as halo war's. Where you can pick your tribe leader (you) and they will have specific powers, I.e; Edmund RockWell, His uber units are Reaper's, his special units are drakes, after reaching tek tier you would be able to make tek drakes which would be siege unit's(high damage versus structures)

and then Something like mei(i believe she is the mek pilot)
where her uber unit would be mek's.

please let me know what you all think of this idea, i havent started on it because i did not know if it is something the community would be interested in.

hello, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I'll give it a shot. Let me know if I need to move to another channel. I have a dedicated server running on my pc and I am trying to get a breeding operation going. I want to be able to kill unclaimed baby dinos that dont have mutations with my tamed dinos, but for some reason I cant. I have pvp enabled, I can harm my own dinos and structures but not unclaimed babies. I have done some googling and most people just say pvp needs to be enabled.

The custom color settings they released a few updates ago don't work, so no, it's not possible currently. You can try a different event for dino colors, most of them used to work for that. Just be sure to cheat DestroyWildDinos when the server comes back up.

You will need two ports open, or forwarded depending on your setup. One for query one for the server

The only way to transfer items that are not transferable such as element. Is to convert that item into a transferable item and then once transferred recraft it back into the item

For example in beacon you can make a compass cost 1 element > transfer the compass and then convert it back into element

Otherwise its mods but that is steam only

that the easy way to do it

Hi, I am developing a tool similar in spirit to BattleMetrics. I am using the Steam API to fetch the player count of a particular Ark server. When I do that, everything works fine, but there is a discrepancy between the player count returned by this API and what the Ark server lobby shows. The count returned from the Steam API includes a list of players who do not have a Steam display name (the white name above a player's head). If I subtract these "no name" players from the total count, the count coincides with what the Ark lobby shows. Now my question is: who is correct, the Steam API or the Ark lobby?

I have tried multiple queries, and they all have the same discrepancy. I suppose that these "no-name" players could be inactive or something, but what is strange is that if I query how much time they have spent connected to the current session, they have usually spent a similar amount of time as players with a name

Having the issue where the dedicated server I am self-hosting is not in Favorites list ingame for my friend- It worked fine in the weekend, then the server updated to 357.5 and now she cannot join but I still can

I've checked the following

• Port forward is still on
• Firewalls are off
• The server is still in her favorite's list on steam itself
• The port itself is still the same
• Ark Server Manager said it was Available

Apparently it was fixed with just a server restart.. which sucks when it takes like half an hour to start up

Does anyone know what could've caused it so I can avoid it in the future?

Your IP isnt static. Your external IP will cycle time to time so people will have to get your new one for their favorite list. Joining you off a friend list is more reliable

Not sure then. Make sure your internal ips didn't get reassigned either. In the end sounds like something on your network changed. Or when you restarted it an old change was applied.

And no. Simply restarting the server wouldn't effect it if you have a static ip. I'm only working off the info provided.

Why were you using ipconfig. That's typically how you flush your IP. I'd also be concerned if your server took more than 5m to startup

As people have stated, they could've made money through merch, cosmetics and other silly little things.

They could've downsized official gradually to match the player count, that way people have time to scoot their stuff to other servers and it is saving in upkeep costs, whilst having some sort of sanctuary for Ark 1 people. They need to fix the pillaring before they can do that though.

They could've even released a small DLC for Ark 1 as a supplement.

There are so many other ways, this is just the most stupid crap I have ever seen.

I'm in the same boat with mine, I paid for the rack and server equipment to setup my cluster originally myself but doing so again....that is going to be an expensive venture. I have enough free hardware resources where i could run maybe the initial version dlc releases but not a full cluster later. So it'll have to come down to eventually nixing the old version to run the newer variant and phase it out as dlcs are released. Otherwise I'll need a gofundme to build another box again.

Though there is a silver lining...ish....the cross-platform and mod capabilities of the newer version can bring foreseeable headcount with broader availability for cross play into the unofficial networks where there wasn't before. There's been multiple console players come by my community asking if they would be able to play. Always had to tell them no because of it being a steam modded cluster. That part I see as a reason to push to the new version eventually for me.

Could it have been handled better, certainly so and it will place a huge cramp on alot of us both as server operators and players alike. As for the official players, yeah, that's a real suckfest. Putting in litteral years of work for what they got to have it evaporate. Though, If they don't quit the franchise outright.....that will shift the playerbase into the unofficial populations for a bit. Which we'll get the good and the bad that comes from that in terms of dealing with all the official network drama ourselves....

CountryBee is exactly right, consoles can’t do anything without the help of a server hosting site. I use Nitrado, and have found their rates super affordable. Their customer service seems pretty responsive as well. There are lots of really great youtube tutorials for setting up a server on YouTube, and once you have your own server you’ll never even miss official. Best of luck!

Here is my question. Will we be able to use our save backup and just rehost ARK ASA from loading the save data. I think this should be a thing. I run a ps4 server, i have a ps5 and the upgrade sounds nice however i didn't understand the conversation with teddy, when the upgraded ark comes out will we not be able to have the og ark on unofficial? i know official is supposed to go bye bye but im looking for information for one so i know if i will still be able to run the og ark or will i need to switch over to the remastered plus i need solid information for my players, i have over 200 and not all of them can just buy a new game. im just looking for information and the above conversation kinda confused me

That fixes it for a bit but it has a chance of clipping out, personally I avoid trapping it because it glitches too much

Yeah thats what i was trying to figure out, i have players who dont have next gen consoles and id hate to shut down although ill most likely be making a next gen server as well for the mods which i read was supposed to be a thing and cross play so that would be cool and bring in more players but i just needed information for my community, thank you

So I have an issue. I started a server using Nitrado and the max level of tames is off. I want it to be 500 like official but some are going over and some are stuck at 238. Anyone know the setting for that?

Taming will have them at an added 75 levels with perfect effectiveness. Breeding is how you get them higher. Unofficials do not have a dino cap unless you specifically add it or they reach 255 points in each stat.

So any ideas what's going on with my server atm?
I can see the server on the steam server browser. I've added both my internal and external IP so I could test a connection. I get the Query failed trying to connect to either one. Rcon server messages are working so I know the server is running. Ports 7777-7778, 27015 and 27020 are opened on the router and through ufw on the machine. Is there something going on with unofficial servers? I get the Query failed on the internal connection and the external connection so that tells me that it's not a port forwarding issue anyways.

Your query port is typically plus 1 of your game port unless defined otherwise.

@azure gulch Thought Query Port was 27015 and game port was 7777 while the raw was 7778, as it stands. it fails to query internally as well, so there's that issue as well.

By default it's plus 1. So if 7777 is your game 7778 would be query. However these can both be defined in the setup to be any port you choose

Some people during port forwarding don't set it up properly as well. Make sure the ports are forwarded to your internal IP

But I checked, ASM says the mods are all up to date..

yeah I found the issue, it was on my game's side, because steam had refused to update the S+ from workshop

i restarted steam and it updated S+

awesome! That was my next step. Sometimes Ark/Steam take forever to get the mods updated. Always good to wait a few minutes on the main menu so the game can update them properly.

i set it up but my hosting provider told me i cant have permissions to add users etc due to reasons

so basically most plugins that want database sql will not work unti i get permissions but i sady cant

I want to shorten the amount of time it takes to cryo a dino. Default time is around 5 seconds and I want it lower for my server. I've seen this setting before but I'm drawing a blank on where to find it. Does anyone know the command to change it?

I would like Maewings to spawn on The Island without the use of mods. I went with NPC replacement but it doesn't appear to be working. The command I've attempted to use is:

Tried in both gameini and gameuserini with restarts and dino wipes multiple times. It appears neither are spawning at all. Is there another option to force maewings to occur on The Island without mods or manual spawning?

The dino needs to be in the set of dinos that will spawn on the map if you use NPCReplacements. Best option is a mod to add that as an option.

Software dev with a working knowledge of the OSI. You likely have a firewall issue. It should simply be IP:Port to connect. What’s your subnet range? 192.168.1.0/24 or 10.0.0.0/24?

i run a lan server on debian running on a proxmox machine

you simply need to connect to your server through the lan ip and not from steam server list

the server needs to broadcast to the 0.0.0.0/24 network in order to do that

The server can be queried under the steam server browser, but trying to do a steam://connect results in unable to query server, and adding the server to favorites will show in the steam server browser, but not in the ark server browser, so no way to connect that way either.

typically I would just run it as a service after a steamcmd install, but it can't be reached that way internally or externally, but it's running seeing as I can rcon into it
