There are multiple dinos to go for. You'll want farming dinos such as an anky, argy, karkinos, and a rat from ab (for wood). You'll also want thylos. Thylos are really good for killing stegos that are trying to soak your turrets. I woulf focus on getting farming dinos and defensive dinos. Obviously you'll need dinos to get around so get some flyers (depends on what map you play).

best way to start out on on smalls without having a built up tribe as a friend is on gen2 to get tons of dust > buy all boss fights with dust > grind out prefab base on gen2 > find gen1 server with alpha thats willing to have you as a taxpayer > build on astroid/ ocean pillar
