You probably will. It seems the costs to finish a game is skyrocketing lately. In the past the developers were able to keep the price (60USD) because costs were probably falling.

I mean, there was inflation of course, but more people were buying gaming PCs or consoles, and new tech made it cheaper to develop. I’m not so sure there more gamers each year, but the costs are rising (according the devs).

It really does confuse me that they say "the cost of games are rising" while the overall quality has dwindled.

Lets not forget that Microsoft has recently closed like five studios.
Which, if I recall. Most of those studios made quality games.
Though these games also from what I understand, marketing/revenue flaws.
Prey 2017 was a good and fleshed out game, but didn't get much money back from what I recall.
Hi-Fi Rush was in the same field of quality, being a really good game from what I heard. Though pretty bit issue.
Game costs 29.99$ USD to buy. Not the average 59.99$
While we don't have official statistics, nor do I actually know the fuck I'm talking about.

Personally I truly think tek is a good thing. Like yes it will be more of a "raw" pvp, but all the point of tek was the difficutly of learning mecanics, ARK in my opinion was a great pvp game cause it takes aim + game sens + mecanics, which is not in every game ngl even more as a survival game.
We will still have mecanics to learn but it will be less, way more less, and I'm kinda sad of it, cause tek was also here to bring different way to raid / pvp / counter etc etc, it was a easy way for the dev to add content cause everything could have been "futurist" and we would have missed a lot without tek

The fact that years ago, Wildcard stood their ground and threatened to leave when Snail wanted to add EA-style pay 2 win content to ASE, yet in ASA it seems like everything Snail wanted is slowly coming true. I'd wager that something happened internally that has now made any threats to leave go on deaf ears.
Could also just be the fact people and their viewpoints change over time. And Wildcards previous relationship with SnailGames no longer exists.

It's hard to say what would happen to wc without snail. But snail is proven through historical evidence to be a predatory company. And the only reason wc is owned by them is due to a bad noncompete lawsuit. I do think it is reasonable to wonder what ark would be like without snail.

It’s actually easy, they had no money and needed liquidity ASAP. SG was the only one interested in investing on them. They would be closed if weren’t for them.

I’m aware what people say about SG. I haven’t seen any evidence they are a predatory company, but one thing I know for sure, the only good game they have and didn’t abandoned so far was Ark.

Also, it’s important to remember WC is still a one game studio. They’ve tried with Atlas, they’ve tried with Ark Mobile, but only successful title so far was ASE.

And going back to the topic, WC is struggling to deliver Ark 2. And I have no evidence to sustain what I will say, but I really doubt SG is the culprit here. This is WC’s fault.

Ark 2 was supposed to be the Ark they’ve always envisioned, but in the end it might be just that, a vision. And it’s because SG is predatory, it’s because they keep promising everything, but delivering so little (sometimes they don’t even deliver).

ATLAS actually had a decent amount of hype towards it within during it's 2018 reveal.
It actually went through the same issue ASA is currently going through, with the poor optimization to the extent of lower specs that couldn't handle it. Shitty official servers. Etc.
What killed the game, was a lack of actually good updates that made the game playable for people that don't want to dump 2,000$+ on a PC. The still very unplayable official servers. And the season system that the content updates dropped only every 6 months. (which was not worth the time for how little they gave per update.)

And the way the grid system worked was also very unofficial friendly.
You know....the server types that have kept ASE active.

I don’t even know how they are dealing with their partners. Microsoft already announced Ark 2 as a console exclusive and coming to game pass, and still nothing. If they’ve already put money on that, WC and SG are in trouble.

1 - First time we saw the Atlas trailer was in the Ark Youtube Channel, the trailer leaked a few days (?) before the TGA announcement
2 - After the Leak JESSE AND JEREMY (you know them, right, WC CEOs and founders) announced Atlas in the TGA Stage
3 - Ark's big names were actively in the Forums and livestreams, I won't remember them all, but I remember Jeremy, Jat and Dollie (Dollie was CM I think)
4 - After the debacle they just decided they didn't want to have anything to do with it. Everybody moved back to Ark and let others carry on the development (pretty much none after 1-2 yers).

And apparently people just forgot/accepted WC has nothing to do with Atlas. But I remember, and they do.

It's important to know that, because unless they fix their issues, Ark might fail. And It would be really sad.

Again, SG isn't the only issue. Never was. WC needs to pull themselves together before it's too late.

That's a terrible idea tbh. From what little we know of Ark II, it's sounding like the superior version of the legacy game(s) across the board. If ASA were a true remaster of the prior game code and asset wise, I think it would be a different story. Ark II has the potential to be a completely new foundation for WC to take the best traits of ASE/A and incorporate them into Ark II for a fresh new experience, and not just 80 percent repetitive content.

Not to diminish their work on ASA either, club ark, fantastic tames, and the new maps take a lot of time and energy to complete, I just think that after what is soon to be 10 years it would be time for a new experience.

As an example on the silence thing, Light No Fire has been silent since their brief teaser, and most of them still bring up the game and wanting to play it.

I know WC said ASA was to help fund Ark 2 as they needed the funds, but the quick influx of cash at the cost of making your fanbase not trust you definitely wasn't the play lol.

yeah maybe sometimes after the game hasn't had a update for like 5-10 years but it was immediately after. kind of weird IMO.

IMO it'll be kind of similar to fallout 76 format, you can build and craft and collect , but there will be stuff driving everyone to same areas and events depending on their level or what not.
They have also stated (a while ago) the reason for asa release is part because the game needed updated engine to be what they originally envisioned, as well as it will help fund ark 2 but....
its been like 3 or 4 years since the original mention for ark 2, the first trailer says in-game engine visuals in the corner of the screen, so i say they have mostly finnished the game and potentially have for a while, they re just trying to milk the hell out of asa because they know that majority of people that play the original game arent the type of gamers that play the souls like combat games.
what they failed to realise is that the biggest reason that so many people love the original game is because if u go through any of the survival games on say .. gamepass, there is none that compare to the amount of content for "free".

With a focus on primitive-era combat (Santiago and Tek have a ‘complicated’ relationship…), ARK 2 draws heavily from Souls-like action for its human-scale combat: an emphasis on dodges, blocks, light and heavy attacks, combos, and player-reflex skill – a rarity for the PvP survival genre. For creature-scale combat, suffice it to say for now that when you attack something with your T-Rex in ARK 2, the results are visceral: the animation of the attack actually hard-impacts on the target (not “passing through” it), the victim’s flesh is torn, and the target physically reacts at that location to the hit – all to convey the feeling of the raw power of such a ferocious creature!

Another area that we’re particularly excited about is the World Event system. Rather than simply having a more-or-less static environment with easily predictable or repetitive occurrences ala ARK 1, the new World Event system is designed to ensure that unique things are always happening around the world, whether you are there or not. Events include procedurally-dynamic scenarios like watering hole gatherings, wounded creatures, tracking the signs of advanced prey, stampedes, herds, defending endangered creatures to earn their trust, finding dens of parent creatures and their young, and more. Whether you choose to engage with these events is up to you, and each can yield unique rewards and challenges.

There are too many other areas of fundamental changes in ARK 2, whether it’s the new opposing-force ‘Aratai’ who have their own tames, the new Creature Management & proper World Map systems, the advanced component-based item crafting that enables players to choose exactly what their gear looks and functions like from millions of potential combinations, or the revamped build system which provides innumerable more building options and enables saving & sharing of build templates – or, or…well, there’s just too much to go over here! It's all possible. But that level of detail where a bite actually tears the part of the flesh off in the area you bit and have the AI / animations react to that location of the bite, it's allllll possible. But there is so much level of code to pull this off. Visual approach and AI approach really.

If they have the system where like Dead Island 2 you can blow parts of limbs off, everything is dynamic on zombies with their flesh. You can see their bones and shit when you shoot them to bits haha, it's amazing. That is a well made system. That could definitely be added into ARK 2, but that would probably be about it.

From what I've seen they've angered too many people in ASA to keep it viable long term, or bring in massive amounts of players. Whoever is playing right now is most likely going to remain who it is. I don't think the new maps are going to draw in as many as they hope/think it will.
