#ark-2

People just ignore the complicated BS and just camp in the PVP or PVE zone and not transfer at all
Not that I know of, sadly. But there's probably a way
Atlas, like always 😂
If they want a bigger map space to PVP, ATLAS grid system is viable than what ARK has for limited space
Remember the bigger the space the more memory needed for your server PC
The grid made it seamless compared to normal transfer
Nms ark edition would be epic
Nothing like hopping a grid square to be immediately ambushed by angry whales
This worked great for atlas, but atlas' map is ocean, with some islands. Each grid square is on average a lot easier to make than an ark map
I really like the idea, but I feel like they would need a pretty good procedural generator to make that work in any normal timeframe
And we all know how well that works... lol
For Ark, that is
A game that is not 90% ocean
ARK 2 is not gonna set on a space station anymore
they have an excuse to make an ocean work... you know... it's a celestial body with multiple ways to go around and no invisible walls to stop you..... ||aside from downed grid||
if they make the spawn rate similar to ARK then it will happen
the con for the procedural gen compared to handcrafted maps is that it makes more mesh holes and inescapable pits because you are just fine what the AI put it
the reason it worked with minecraft its because holes can be easily filled with blocks rather than random polygons
We already know the worldspace is handcrafted, anyways. But what you just said about proc gen is the why of why they aren't going to do it that way

Tbh the genesis 2 map COULD have been largely procedural given how samey it looked
Ehhh, maybe for the Eden side, I guess. You're the only person I've met that really has an issue with Gen 2 lol
Gen 2 did have some subtle variation between areas within the Eden ring, it's just that they actually smoothly transitioned from one to another rather than having it be like the visible line between the snow and jungle biomes on the Island. It's weird because even though Gen 2 is literally a giant spaceship and it goes out of its way to make that far more obvious than any other map, it still feels more natural to me than the Island, just because the biomes within each ring aren't placed so illogically.
Hopefully those more natural transitions between biomes will make it into ARK 2
You know, I still feel like the Vin-Diesel scene should've been a post-credit thing.
Kind of ruins the mood from a sad ending, to "respawned again" back to a sad track.
Clearly Vin Diesel getting respawned was what we were supposed to be sad about lmao
Dead already rip 🪦☠️
insert action packed track here afterwards
We need bob odenkirk in ark 2
I actually am of the same opinion lol. Gen2 only feels the same because of the tek suiting from the start. Without the that it has a remarkable amount of variety
I think the immersion was very high for genesis 2, and the samey biomes felt perfect for the artificial ship environment. But my personal taste is for variation in elevation and biosphere
I played through the whole thing with no tek, and can comfortably say it’s the most eligible for procedural generation. Again, not a knock, simply a statement that implies you can make immersive massive biomes of a single type with such a system without needing much/any painful hand crafting
Flier only desert map, with a lush river below?
I would love to see a decent procedural generator for ark 2, if they make every official server procedurally generated and then do tweaks just to keep them working and decent that would be epic
i am still doubt procedural gen would work as a landscape especially with PVP players wanted to exploit the living hell out of the mesh holes that the AI forgot to fill
Yeah, it woukd take a couple people going over every bit of the map to make sure it's good
Genius
s
Monekeys
Ark 2 hopefully doesn't change pvp too much
Hopefully it does
I really hope it does
I have some insanely bad news lol
I mean it still probably gathering resources and using that to tame dinos make items and build bases in order to raid people to take there stuff for yourself, just the specifics on taming crafting and actually damaging enemies is most likely different
As for Ark 2, I don't know that they've stated it will be crossplay, but considering it will be on Microsoft (both versions) it likely will be.
I’m sure they have wayyyyyy more funding now lol
And with the new engine 5 a lot more control over everything
Heard that because ark is on an old platform they can’t really fix a lot of the glitches and exploits and have to work around it to fix it. So yeah. Hope they come out with a beta
early access launch will be your beta
playstation usually doesn't like early access titles, it's confirmed to launch in early access next year on xbox and pc at the same time along with the timed exclusivity contract with Microsoft, playstation launch will be after
it is what it is unfortunately
I would believe it if they handled tickets and situations like this better, but at this point it just sounds like an excuse and I will be waiting to see before getting sucked into the same situation.
I heard the fart and that poop dropped I was sucked in. Then I seen the toilet that gave you xp per 💩 sheeeeeeesh and the boat lol. Good times as a beach bob for sure
Could be worded more kind but yes, I suspect if CoC enforcement isn’t cleaned up many of the same issues will come back
I’m guessing combat scheme alone will be a pretty major departure from ark 1 PvP
you no i hop they add season like winter summer fall in to ark it can snow or rain a lot be cold
who knows what they will reveal in the future or extra life
Seasons would be awesome
Still have the firm believe that ARK should steer more towards the semi-horror theme Aberration was going with, and turn that up.
Who else here agrees ark 2 should have a build limit on structures
Maybe, but we don't really even know how it's going to play at this point.
We know they'll have blueprint sharing, akin to Forge in Halo.
But besides that. Yeah, we don't know jack shit about building.
Prefabs would be so helpful ngl
Anything new about ark 2 I need to know since the last 2 months?
Nah, not really anything happened
Alr thx
So, I just discovered something about Destiny-2 that I think would be interesting for ARK-2
Destiny-2 has been adding recreated raids from the first game. Taking major moments (like the main-antagonist of the first-games mission) and remastering it for Destiny-2.
So, from what it sounds like, ARK-2 is obviously pretty damn different then ARK-1. But keeps the barebone of what made the original game good.
A lot of newer players probably wont want to go back to ARK-1 just to get important lore-bits and such, or the experience due to how grindy as all fuck the game is.
So, I wonder what y'all would think if Wildcard did a similar thing.
Remastering specific moments like bosses in ARK-2 as side-quests.
You obviously wouldn't get ascension levels, but normal loot like any other mission.
Just wondering what you guys think of an idea like that.
idk. it wouldn't really make sense, considering that ark 2 events take place after ark 1 maybe if it was in some kind of wierd time warp or flashback level
Same thing in Destiny. These raids are happening canonically in Destiny-1, and Oryx (the villain) is dead still in Destiny-2.
ARK has an advantage though with it's lore.
They made up the Engramic-Matrix concept, and can expand more on it.
Our character does seem to have amnesia in ARK-2's store-page. So side-missions of trying to either remember, or hook ourselves into a leftover machine that still works that's from the ship, and tapping into our Engramic-Matrix could be a viable lore excuse.
well yeah in that case, it could be interesting
I don't want to see ark2 turn into destiny 2 though 😭
One feature that's not exclusive to Destiny wouldn't make a game into it.
I want to see ark2 be what ark1 had the potential of being, not some piggy back that tries to keep too much dead weight from ark1
It's not a terrible idea, and it would be a cool tutorial type thing imo, but i wouldn't want something like that in the main game
If anything, could be a minor-DLC that's like 15$
No benefit gameplay-wise other then just more missions.
true
Yeah, I could see an overhaul similar to prim+, but being tek+
I hope ark 2 appears in extra life (which is likely)
I mostly like the idea of just recreating moments like the King-Titan fight, or Rockwell-Prime in UE5.
Well, I am 80% sure some type of titan is coming back
I could see natural titan-sized creatures.
But an 'actual' titan from Extinction, I really, really, really doubt it.
I really would almost bet that the final boss is going to be a harder element spawned boss
It would just make sense continuity wise
Sure, but element spawn doesn't 'have' to mean titans.
They could make it that titans are one in many different things corruption can make.
As far as I am aware, titans are the only pure element creatures, so I would expect something similar
They never stated that they're the 'only' pure-element spawns.
Just the ones we see in-game.
Mei, Helena, and Santiago slaughtered many corrupted creatures in the notes.
Was the king titan corrupted though?
Corrupted as I understand is like mutated by element, and the titans were made by element. So are they actually technically corrupted?
Corruption creatures*
Meant to say that instead
Titans where made by 'corruption'
And the corruption was just element injected into the environment? The element itself doest change
Yeah, I am of the opinion that titans aren't corrupted, but rather created by the xenotoxin
Element is more like it's stationary, docile form.
I'd say a element-based lifeform is more akin to Rockwell injecting himself.
'Corruption' is element after something unknown happens for it to go rogue, and the black goop we see in Extinction.
They are.
They're corruption-based lifeforms.
I'm making it out probably more complicated as it is.
But basically, element is the docile stage of the xenotoxin, and can't directly corrupt creatures like we see in Extinction.
A unknown process happens (the use of tek-based stuff spreads its spores, but from what we know that wasn't the cause) for it to go corrupt.
But once it does, corruption starts to spread and is that black-goopy stuff.
Once it reaches this stage, it basically is now sentient and can create life if the air is polluted enough with corruption.
Now, 'if' the cause of corruption was in fact also tied to the spores spreading. My issue with titans returning is that canonically, it took nearly a century of a fullscale global WW3 like war with tek-based technology for it to even start the corruption process.
@untold ingot If you're still interested in talking.
I dunno, I always thought the three titans were the biodome's proto "guardians", like the broodmother or megapithicus
the idea is that the element cysts that are on them are from the earth/king titan and are the reason for their behavior...and that they'd normally not act in concert with the king titan
No, they're all roughly made the same way
The element 'cysts' are their broadcasting radio to the King-Titan, which represents the entire hivemind of corruption.
Without said cysts, their connection to the hivemind is severed, and they serve the second closest thing to them
souls like comabt
@blissful perch Just saw your reaction.
What's so confusing about that?
I'm not opposed to rare giant fauna that trigger titan like boss fights.
I thought king titan was the source of corruption
Thats why you have to take him out so the arks can return to earth
No, killing the King Titan weakens the corruption
But that is not enough to send the ARKs down tho
HD Helena's tampering is needed
Yet the darkest shadows are the ones that were never truly alive to begin with, the ones born of the violet poison itself. Titanic manifestations of its ravenous hunger and endless hatred.
More than that, they are its avatars, made of its very essence. They carry pieces of the poison's collective consciousness, and they spread its influence. Destroying them would wound the poison itself.
Poetically ye
But that is about ARK 1
None of it matters in ARK 2 unless they want to bring that back
I tend to forget this is not #lore-nerdz
High-Definition Helena
I use that owl emote for doubt
Looks more like confusion.
And you can doubt all you want. But that's what Marc stated in his Reddit post. (given if his lore is still valid.)

No one has ever brought up Last Oasis' Hex Map system
Do you think that would be viable for ARK 2?
Because exclusivity deal and also Sony hates it's players so they don't put many early access games on their platform, which Ark 2 will be
I hope it goes to ps4 fast
Until PS4 becomes a next gen console…it won’t come to PS4 @fast isle
As a volunteer Admin who is completely decoupled from Wildcard, this is entirely speculation, but based on what Wildcard has publicly stated so far about the Xbox-exclusive console release, I'd expect that ARK 2 will eventually reach the Playstation Network, perhaps after Early Access has ended and the game enters official release.
But again, just speculating based on the information provided publicly thus far.
@ruby prism #server-reports
hi
@fallow niche this would be the 7th time in the past 14 hours that I’ve reported server outage.
Doesn't go in this channel, and you've already shared it in 2 others. Thanks.
I hope ark 2 will be for ps4 as well
@royal patio I'm thinking along the same lines as FM here, but I also do not think it will come to PS4. If it does come to PSN, it would be PS5.
if it comes to ps5 then that's just another game for my ps5 lineup
Yeah, it will not be coming to previous gen consoles whatsoever, of that we can be sure.
if it does that would be cool
atleast this time we will be less limited by consoles
Thank god
BotW suffered because of that shit, I hate it when games are held back because of previous gen
It won’t get ya money up
its most likely going to be the same just a different combat style of what ive heard.
Unless the structure limit in within a reasonably defensible range, we also have no idea what we're going to have as far as defenses, and turrets (in the traditional sense) are kinda out of the question. There could be something like patrols of Aratai or humans you can task to defend your base with or without dinos, that don't count towards the structure limit, perhaps. Just brainstorming, though.
Bases are going to be able to be generally bigger, as well. Or so they've said, don't know what size they're basing that off of, though 😅
Yah the structure limit, especially for non pc players was way too low. It's an extreme multi hour endeavour to replace some thing in an area a few thousand over structure cap. It would be nice if the template building structure had a " fix all option" that ignored structure cap limitations
cries in trying to build a boat
It would be nice to be able to repair structures by pulling from nearby inventories
I think a structure limit is probably important for general performance reasons, but it should be on a per-server setting basis
PVP servers can have more, small tribe/PVE servers can have less, etc
assuming the building system even is a 1 to 1 recreation of the building we have in Ark 1. If the game has a different format (third person melee-focus) the kind of structures we build may be radically different than what we're used to
Well, yeah, the building is definitely going to be different, but how much so we have very little idea of
Yo
i cant imagine separation of pve and pvp balancing doesnt happen
more than anything else
I'd sure hope so, if not then the game will quickly suffer many a same problem that Ark 1 does, in my opinion, such as the unnecessary overnerfing of the Managarmr (at least from a PvE perspective)
I mean, we might disagree that the mana was overnerfed lol. The early mana was way too op and easy to tame imo. It should have been significantly harder to tame
That I can agree with, seeing as how it was originally supposed to be an egg steal tame
But for PvE it was super overnerfed, good luck actually using a mana for the king titan lol
Which was part of it's purpose, it's agility and use against him
I mean, it cant do the boss, but it can do everything else. And one capped mana can definitely do the other bosses lol
Google says otherwise, and that's before the second and third nerfs...
The damage nerf I can understand, it was OP, I'll admit. But the movement? Unnecessary for PvE, did nothing but bad for PvE players
I have done it, not for the alphas, but I beat the betas
I guess I can agree with this
But only partially lol, you already know how I want the movement in ark to be nerfed lol
It was supposed to be the last DLC, I don't see why it not being nerfed into the ground was such a big ask. But then, so was Gen 2, and they nerfed things there way too much as well, so 🤷♂️
Gen2 dinos are still extremely op though
I think that may have attributed to it's overnerfing, them deciding to do more DLCs
Ehh, sure. Astros are kinda trash imo, and Voidwyrms are useless in PvE
Gotta take PvE into account, lol
I dont know, but manas were the most broken dino ever released in ark imo. It took a lot to take them out of that spot
Except for taming noglins, which I just remembered, and are also useless to PvE lmao
Sure. I am hoping that for ark2 they dont decide they want broken dinos, but just want good ones with new abilities and stuff
It seemed taht with every dlc they had a few average ones, and one that was way broken
They are really fun though. Noglining a wild giga and just running around is fun
I hope they split the modes, as stated earlier. If they don't it'll be a shit show
I dont have a strong opinion either way. Not everything has to be one or the other. Pve being good doesnt really depend on pvp, and visa versa
I am more thinking on having less useless variety. There is so much in the game that just never gets used for anything
Fun does not equal use, though. And it's not like we can noglin untamables, like the summoners or something, which would give them use in a way (minus some of the useless untamables/ridables, like the bee or the jug bugs, which are also in turn useless)
If PvE gets balanced based on what is needed for PvP players to stop complaining that something is meta/OP, then it's a problem, full stop
I mean, if something is op for pvp, it is generally op for pve too
PvE ≠ PvP, the same things that are OP in PvP are usually not in PvE lol
Like the astros and the mana's movement
I mean, hell, even the titans and titanosaur have no use besides their intended one, to fight the king titan
Beyond that, they're just flex tames
I could go on
Astros and manas were extremely op for pve too. I just kind of dont want to have the same arguement over again lol
How were they OP for PvE?
Wh have different opinions on it, and thats okay
I genuinely would like to know how manas being able to jump an extra few times before landing was OP for PvE, no joke
I just want to see less of a gap between op and normal is all
Question: dodged...
Well, movement speed is op. With a mana you can move anywhere and then toss a giga out. That is very op imo
No idea wtf that means
Can I dm you?
Sure
Snurch
Hmmmmmm
Soooo?
For a second there I was legit thinking it meant like snail church or some shit and uh sure enough
Snarpen my Snife
I'll take a rain check on that one
do you guys think its gonna be similar/almost the same? or there will be new features in gathering and crafting(aside from every aspect of game being somewhat upgraded from ark1) ? i mean something like alchemy , more plants variety , maybe our garden needs to be more than 5 crop plots for each of the 4 veggies...? Maybe some more rock variety , gems and all? Maybe there will be trading with the npcs? thatd be cool! Instead of having like 10 trex to kill em , maybe some are more peacefull and we can trade with em?
maybe theyr inventory refreshes , and if theres more richer players who come to grab all from their shops , it will be something like supply drops, first come first served untill they refresh inventory
theres a bunch of potions and stuff we can do in the cooking pot in ark1... maybe there will be alchemist pot or something in ark2?
would be rly cool if we can make several potions and such for dinos , like the mushroom brew from abberation
cant wait for ark2 rly
hope they make it less simple and more... 2023?
a bunch of new stuff, way more complex, way better graphics, way better everything, and they gonna set themselfs up alot better in terms of updating the game.
but the biggest question tho, are they gonna hire new people? so that they can optimise and fix faster. thats gonna be the make or break of this game for the majority
but it would be nice with an announcement channel here on discord for ark 2 tho so we could follow it abit better
This is the announcement channel, if they announce something for Ark 2, it'll be here.
And yes they are hiring, actually
Last I checked anyways
We get it you like potions
i mean the focal chili in ark 1 which doubles ur speed is pretty cool
and chowder for much oxygen too
Okay? That's a consumable buff that almost every survival game has in some way.
They posted about it like a month back, seemed pretty important
Mighta been longer idk
@untold ingot I think the mana nerfs were good for PvE and PvP like you said, but the biggest reason I want to see split balance is for stuff like structure placement or even certain QoL that works in PvE but can lead to exploits in PvP (like many of the S+ features)
@tropic crag manas needed a nerf in PvE. When you ask “why use anything else as a solo mount, since everything else is worse” it’s usually time to nerf
yes u right , i hope building will be better in ark 2 , without taking 10 billion months to try to place some pillars to build ur base then u find out to build whole base u need to place like 100 of those impossible hard to place pillars , lol
Why not just buff everything else 🤪
is their gonna be pvp???
I just hope it brings back that pre-tek feeling of 2015-2016 those were magical times
by the looks of it , it should be something like primitive plus , since the whole game is in third person , would imply any ranged weapons would be aimbotting cus of the third person... so i guess the only weapons we will have will be melee weapons
but they did say we can upgrade them in a million combinations + they said there is many active skills , so it would be like primitive + but extra fun combat cus of the many active skills and so on... imagine battles between experienced players who are fully geared and have all or many active skills (maybe there are dodging skills or abilities too) and then that would be some super epic battles
if they make another survival of the fittest but in ark2 i think its gonna be super awesome and epic cus of the combat , they said theyll make dino AI more inteligent so maybe all/most tames will be very usefull in different ways , not having to get lvl 150 rex cus it has highest dmg
pvp in general will be more awesome , and it would be based more on tames than on building a million turrets... but again... maybe breeding will be similar to farming turrets which wouldnt make the game as fun especially if a person breeds like 200 or 300 super OP and mutated rexes or gigas (in ark1 i think the dino limit is 200 or 300)
and if the AI is advanced enough , i dont think you could kite them to their death anymore , they would probably lose interest in you or smth and return quickly back to defend the base
since the whole game is in third person, would imply any ranged weapons would be aimbotting cus of the third person
That's one hell of an assumption. A really terrible one too.
Genuinely believe that the third person thing will be changed sooner or later I cannot believe that a lot of people want to play third person only not being able to switch to first person
With a target locking system any range weapons would essentially be aimbot
I doubt that ranged weapons will have a locking system
The locking system is probably meant as in GTA wherein you had a lock on someone in a hand to hand combat and only then, with punches being directed to them and an expanded blocking and dpdging system. I assume it will be similar to that just expanded on it
locking system on ranged weapons would be fine so long as they arnt hitscan
Yeah, nah lol.
For ranged weapons any lockon is basically aimbot. If they have that I won't even play one day of pvp lol
Debatable, there's games that have ranged lock on done where it isn't straight up aimbot, they give it some sway and sometimes skills or perks make the sway lessened and such. The ones that have aimbot lock on aren't usually multiplayer survivalcraft games, either 😂
I haven't heard of any with that actually having a good pvp scene
if its gonna be soulslike i imagine the pvp will be similar
bloodborne pvp is great
Hence the last sentence of my statement, lol
It's so weird, I swear no one else here has actually PvP'd in a souls game. The PvP scene is probably one of the greatest/biggest out of all the non-shooter videogames, and whenever I bring it up here they're always like "the balancing is trash, souls games suck, there's only like two attacks" and they couldn't be more wrong
I love the PvP in souls-games, but they can be hella unbalanced.
The issue in Souls-games is that there's no level-balancing in PvP.
A max-level player with OP gear can invade a Level-5 player with starter gear.
I always thought it should be more like "if you're invading a world, you can only invade people around your level."
High level gameplay isn't indicative of game balance, just fyi. If someone is running around with 99 in all stats, they are the exception, not the rule. And... they are like that? You can't just invade a level 5 when you're level 50-10000, lol
So my point stands
i am ark jk hi
death blades, long time no see! How you been?
good
Good to hear
whating for new ark up and ark 2 to com out
Aren't we all, lol
i her ark gating a new big up date i do not no wan it is
I don't know about a big update per se, but I know we're getting the Switch update at some point, and then hopefully the Carcharodontosaurus not long after, maybe even in the same update (fingers crossed🤞)
I guess it's kinda a big deal though, what with the Scorched ascension and all
i her xp note are going to be voice over by the actors from the ark anime
Yeah, that's true
i my start a new guy on first map
A fresh playthrough might be a good idea, just to hear all the notes and get hype for the show lol
all sow a new in trow to ark i her to on 1 map
I think all the story based maps are getting one
i hop i can start over this time ascend off the first map my old guy did not
jut whating for the up date then bam new guy
For sure
Camera lock on ≠ aim lock on. Especially for small targets
If anything camera lock is mostly going to allow melee combat to feel less jank, since pivoting your model can be annoying in third person without it for some folks
Haven't played Elden-Ring PvP if that's a thing.
Wasn't in the original Dark-Souls1
The original is old as balls, that's why lol. Almost every one besides that one (even the remake, iirc) has levelled instancing for PvP
It literally came out 11 years and four days ago 🤣
True
Ark 2 is being managed by Grove Street Games? lmao. Did anyone notice how the GTA remasters turned out? 💩
No, it isn't. They're working with them though, and the GTA remasters were bad because of the AI generated textures that weren't true to the original and the fact that Rockstar wanted it out asap, not their fault it wasn't done yet. Do your research and don't just come in here trying to start a flame war, lmao
Just look at the work they've done on the Switch version of Ark 1, impressive in my book, to say the least
Not to mention the porting of Ark to mobile, which is near impossible for most games to boast of these days
They're also doing the Scorched ascension, and that looks good
Which, if that's like a small sub-team of people within Grove-Street working on that. I wonder if they'll do anything else for the later maps.
Would feel weird to have a story-based intro for The Island, then not get anything else till Genesis-1
True, not like it's the whole company making the Switch version, forgot about that
Didn't they confirm all maps are getting intros?
Yep, they're seperating into different fields.
We got the coding team, the cinematic team, and the ARK-2 team
Only The-Island was confirmed.
"A new 'island' intro" is what they said, I believe.
Uhhhhh, hang on a sec, lemme find the vid
If you can prove me wrong, I'd love that.
Imagine a version of The-Islands new intro on Aberration, but it's Rockwell talking and taunting you instead.
if all maps have intros one of them has to have a explosion
Explosion?
boom kabewm and booosssshhhh
Leave that for Rockwell-Prime
Btw Bruce, if you're thinking of "new story cutscenes to conclude each ARK map" we have to remember this is for also the Switch. So it would be 'new cutscenes' to conclude.
Hang on, watching the interview real quick
Y'all switch it back to ark 2 while you're at it
Ark 2
What do you think the first map will be called? If we are doing maps
Just the whole planet?
Nah, we get Arat 1, Arat 2, Arat 3
Arat 1, Arat 2: back in action, Arat 3: Arat a tat tat.. I could see it
Probably gonna be split into chapters of a continuing story and you get the map as mp map for free roam like in gta and gta online or rd2
I'm more imagining what they did in Genesis-2
Open-world is purely for online-game, with missions being for either another form of grinding and story-telling
Probably a planetary region name
North-Arat/Aratia
Pft. I'm already past Ark 2 and 3 and waiting on Ark 4 -- a Stray-clone in which you play as an otter in the new human colonies, attempting to sort out what happened after they all Disappear For Some Reason™.
It'll only have 20 hours of gameplay, but there will be people with thousands of hours.
Starring Ryan Reynolds as the otter, Vin Diesel as the protagonist's streetwise, family-oriented, muscle-tee-rockin' Vin Dodo, and the exact same Tek ATV we have now with all it bugs and charm.
Ryan Reynolds will play a heroic Bob character as well as voice act for the companion dodo wdym
James Earl Jones will be resurrected to voice act for Mufasa the shadowmane
Those too. It's not a large budget for voice. Or animation. Expect handpuppets.
Nah, we can do JEJ with AI now!
His voice will be resurrected, good correction
Hand puppets will be made entirely out of lystro hides and salt cured by the PvP community’s tears
Its really almost been 2 years since the announcement
Game development takes a while yep
That probably means that ark 2 was in development for 4 years
I just want to see some gameplay :(
There's a likely chance we'll see a gameplay reveal at the extra life event
just2 more months
"Can you believe it guys? Extralife, just a week away! Extralife is in a week! Woo-hoo! I am so happy about this information. Extralife, just a week away. Oh, wow! Can you believe it? Extralife, just in a week! It got here so fast. Extralife, just a-"
LMAO
I.....don't get the joke
Do you get it now?
No.
I'm too dumb to understand
cant lie im new to ark but ima have to get ark 2
My post got deleted, lemme dm you it since this channel has become 1984
Keep it ark2 and don't circumvent the filter to post links.
I wonder what they'll do with aquatic creatures in Ark 2.
Probably something with water
You right
I'd be really into them saving them for a DLC and making oceans like Atlas (but with an ecosystem) rather than half arsing it like Ark 1 did.
But then, I'm also hoping they take a similar stitched servers approach to Atlas for Ark 2 (on a far smaller and more detailed scale), like have base game all land connected but then separate the dlc maps onto other continents that you sail across the ocean to travel to.
Mmm more lag Gen 1 ocean is almost unplayable because of that
I recently played on an ATLAS server that isn't heavily modded and I feel the huge lag from the spawn rates a kin to ARK's even without structures
Sometimes I enjoy having less spawns and makes finding dinos more enjoyable and worth it
Idk man since this is probs gonna stay primitive going into water would be kinda weird since no diving suit, maaaybe with a potion or something but still I wouldnt assume too much underwater, especially with the trailer showing basically no water
shallow 👏 seaways 👏
Or a tame.
Even if so, the issue with that is tame spawn population density
Regardless if it's land or water
We want oceans!
Diplocaulus says "hello"
if thats the only way to breath under water it would still be useless to tame anything else really and water would still stay barely usable anyway
Maybe a shoulder pet that stores oxygen?
Anything is possible in an alien planet
fair but as I mentioned there was barely water seen in the trailer so i wouldnt get my hopes too high
Do you think there’s only gonna be one biome? Because only jungle was shown in the trailers.
there was actually more shown in the trailers ._.
Like what?
cries in mangrove swamp
The overview at the end of the announcement for example?
True, I’d hardly call that a jungle
the only things with water atleast from what ive seen were there and it was rivers and maybe a swamp in the distance
So we’re gonna have a jungle biome, and a floating rock with jungle trees on top biome.
you clearly do not posses eyes
Also. Where’s all the water falling from the floating rocks going?
hardly an ocean
How do you know?
because we can see where the water flows down in the ARK 2 Trailer at second 50
and that seems to be a lake if I see that correctly but its in the background
I think you’re letting your imagination fill in to many blanks with the limited amount of information given from the trailers.
But hey. We’ve got just as much information saying there will be oceans as we have saying there won’t.
Didnt all the other games with vin diesel in them flop?
I mean is this just a way to kill the franchise to move on to something else.....lol
All movies made video game flopped, regardless of who starred in them.
dont think one has to do with the other
I wont hold my breathe
No one is expecting you to.
VinnyD being a character in Ark2 isn't really a selling point for me personally
If the game looks good, I'm getting it.
If it doesn't ... I'll probably still get it but that's what Steam Refunds are for 😂
I'd be surprised if arkII lacked an ocean in at least some shape or form
as for vindiago... meh
the attention he draws to the game is cool, but its not really a make or break selling point for me, thats more the parkour arkII will have and the combat and build changes... rather, the system changes in general
if the game is good, then it will be good
if the game is bad, then it will be bad regardless of if vindiago is in it or not
gonna assume you mean "gameplay", since by definition...if the game is good the game is good :p
no, I mean the game as a whole
some games can be good even if the gameplay necessarily isnt
doubt
The gameplay can be simple, and good takes many forms, but a bad game is a bad game
I assume you mean a bad game can still be fun, much like a bad movie can be fun?
a game isnt always about gameplay
Trying to think of a good game with bad gameplay...
prob mediocre gameplay with amazing story/lore is what I assume they mean
there are plenty that are story driven too (which ark pseudo is)
and story driven games tend to focus more on the story (duh) than the gameplay
most ubisoft games are examples of this ^
if you've played one ubisoft game, then you've played them all, and thats not even an exaggeration
I beg to differ, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is one of the highest rated original Xbox games of all time, and he not only starred in it, but his game development studio developed it too (in conjunction with Starbreeze Studios)
So maybe take the unwanted and unasked for Vin Diesel hate somewhere else, at least until you do your own research 😏
Bioshock
Only played the first, and I remember it being alright. Not amazing but passable
Agree with this. But great gameplay in a story game being different from say an FPS…doesn’t mean the story gameplay is BAD
I loved playing “In Other Waters”, and while the gameplay wasn’t complex or particularly difficult, it was extremely well suited to the storytelling the game sought to provide
In essence…it was good lol
tbh I'd argue horizon zero dawns gameplay was pretty bad too
to be clear, the combat itself wasnt necessarily bad, exploitable machine ai aside, but your objectives... the game didnt do anything new, same old dungeons (cauldrons, in this case), your standard bandit camps... just, nothing really all that special
Ark 2 might be very similar to horizon zero dawn with the combat & stealth mechanic
it just gives heavy horizon vibes and i feel like it might work
I thought horizon zero dawn had fantastic scrappy gameplay
If what you seek from gameplay is an endless series of stacking gimmicks…there are many games that do that well and those that do it poorly
“Good gameplay” again can take many forms, and is different from game design. Gameplay is the feeling of actually using game mechanics
yeah, but thats not necessarily what I have an issue with
I loved horizon zero dawns melee combat enough that I beat the game on the hardest difficulty using spear only
and yeah, I guess it would be how the game is designed that I have a more overall problem with
I love fast paced melee combat, which is hard to find honestly
everything these days is just "guns this" and "guns that"
Now i understand why they went with third person only, horizon zero dawn worked as a third person game and so will ark 2
Horizon Zero dawn also worked excellently because it was a singleplayer game
the coyote time ranged weakspot combat and weaponry straight up can't work in multiplayer. I hope ark 2 more closely mirrors souls or monster hunter
it's valid to not like a game or not like its design. I just want to tease out a personal preference from the phrase "the game is good therefore it's good" lol to try to keep things objective
No.
When’s next news suppose to come
best guess for more news and possible gameplay is early november during the extra life stream wildcard does every year
Is it already confirmed for the 11/05?
Extra Life is confirmed for November 5th, yep
(just added that for others that don't use the m/d/y format)
tks
I am highly doubting Ark 2 will have mediocre gameplay, im predicting a good combat system. All we can do it hope the devs are making a truly amazing game on unreal engine 5, even tho us PS5 players won't get it for a while
To be honest, their company kind of depends on ARK-2 succeeding.
I have no worry of the gameplay itself.
My worry is how fun the gameplay 'loop' will be, and if we're still going to be in the stone-age 7 years from now
I mean, there is no guarantee that ark2 will last another 7 years. They could already have the whole story mapped out and have 3 dlc, then go to ark3 or something
But I mean, the main character is still Bob, the guy beats up bug and suddenly knows how to make futuristic technology
I really, really doubt that.
Wildcard has nowhere as much funding, nor developers to pull stuff like CoD does and have yearly releases with major games.
will ark 2 be in ps4?
No, only on PS5/XBOX series x/s. current gen only
i also thought that but I've seen websites where you can boy it on ps4 when it comes out
ark 2 will die. wildcard will realise this and probably return to ark 1
thats what my 3rd eye tells me
nope they probably go bankrupt and not "fix the (already unfixable from the start) game" at all like everyone wished
this is also very possible
but i hope for the ending where wildcard returns to ark 1
without bankrupt
less likely to happen
i can always hope
they bleed money by trying to "fix the game" instead on making a new game from scratch with possible failsafes
since ATLAS is gonna "upgrade the game" to UE5, this is their attempt of a "fix the game" this will inherently break current mods but if it does succeed with mods and DLCs easily port over then "Fix the game" is plaussible
That would be a scam. It’s Xbox launch exclusive
They have released new ark 1 content every 6mo to gain more income, so that alone will extend longevity
I hope the first thing they do if ark 2 has a bad launch is cut 50% of the ark 1 official servers and use the saved money to develop fixes for ark 2 that make it more fun and gain more players/sales
yes #CutOfficial
as long as they keep ark 1 up im ok with it
I suspect they will for a while after ark 2 anyway, and then slowly cull official servers over the next few years
No! terrible idea!
they should cut 100%
What’s nice about ark is that you can always do unofficial after official is gone
It’s bad business to fully cut your lifeline if ark 2 actually does flop lol
tru
I really dont see ark 1 as a lifeline
I don't even see how they made profit from the official server without any form of MTX
Usually they get funds from the Games, DLCs, and Server Providers (maybe)
Well the servers are part of the game, its intended as a multiplayer game so having official server lets people play the game as it was intended
It’s a fallback if ark 2 fails, so I’d call it one lol
People can recreate that feeling in unofficial complete with Evo and Event triggers
If ark 2 fails, investment can move to ark 1 if required to savage funding
thats the last thing we want
Agreed completely
The biggest thing then is to make sure ark2 doesn't fail then lol
But something I don’t want can always happen lol
I don’t WANT to be working right now, but I have to 😂
tbh idc about anything in ark 2 beside non dedicated sessions
cause they are so buggy and its so hard to make a server just for you and ur friends
Hopefully nondedicated servers will be a bit more stable
yeah
today me and my friend couldnt play the whole day because of connection host error
its so weird
cause it only happens sometimes
Tbh they should have a separate system for handling non dedicated sessions like they do for ark 1
Is it a fallback?
Objectively? Yes
Yeah, the main issue is that ark wasn't made to be played single player, so it wasn't optimized for that from the start.
Unless you think atlas is more a fallback than ark 1 😂
There is a different system, but it is still not really good enough for stable game play
It’s different but not sufficiently so imo for that purpose
By fallback do you mean make more ark 1 dlc?
it would be much better if they could make it much easier to make servers
Sure, or release community maps that are low budget but reasonably high yield for sales
I mean, they could take arks base code, and slap it into an entirely new genre of game if it doesn't work out
Probably too expensive to do a massive pivot if ark 2 doesn’t recoup costs
It is pretty easy, it just takes a lot of resources
yeah
Maybe
Since they are planning to "upgrade" it to UE 5
Then 🤷🏻♂️
Also they have made ark 1 free numerous times the ampunt of people who are interested already should have the game and i doubt there are many who dont know about it because of how long its been out and popular its been
So i dont see how it is a financial fallback
Especially if they are to release more free maps
They could release a new paid dlc for ark1
nah
Thats probably harder than just trying to fix ark 2
im coolin
Maybe lol, but it's a possibility
Ark is a big game, but it’s not nearly big enough to own the whole market lol
Honestly though, I don't see ark 2 failing
Especially since the market of new gamers is large
The story is already concluded plus they can't afford more A List Voice Actors
depends on release time for the sucsess tbh
they cant release in august to december
all the big names come out then
I mean, they made scorched to stay afloat. They could add a non story paid dlc if it is absolutely necessary. But yeah, I envision that being more an ark2 thing
Ark2 is a big name though lol
not saying ark 2 isnt a big name but games like fifa, 2k, and cod have a really loyal fanbase
That is also the reaction from the whole ATLAS drama
I would bet everyone of the 100k consistent players would buy ark2 before a new cod or something lol
Ark is large enough to compete with the big release seasons
It's got a different audience too
100%
i ain't buying the new cod when i already got 2 atm lol
If this were a small indie game I 100% would agree, but this is no longer a small game. It may be one of the largest indie games out there
the new cod looks really good
I am never buying a new cod lol
i usally just play the betas when they come out for the weeks before release
never pay for the game unless my friend buys and i gameshare
no point on buying cod on pc tbh
Imo it's time for cod to die and let better games come along lol
it wont die because of how loyal the fanbase is
for a long time atleast
they would have to destroy all the games they release in the last 3 years
then make the game they release unplayable
Nostalgia is keeping a subpar game alive as far as I can see lol
because when the new cod is bad they just go back to the older ones till they play a good one (mw 2019)
whats been happening for ages with cod
I’m gonna go with a “who cares” approach
flygon
People watch baseball, and it’s so boring I crave any sort of visual stimulation
Let people have their repeatable COD purchases
Well, I just hope ark2 doesn't take the same approach. I don't want to see a total reskin of ark1.
*trapinch
hundred
Imo that's the only thing that'll wreck it
a few levels and your prolly at flygon
there should be a mega flygon
it wouldve been so cool
Yeah, it's just flooding the market with mediocre repitition
''b bbut my autoclicker combat, i don't want skill based combat''
I wouldn’t call that flooding
if warzone 2 is good then cod is staying on the market for a lot of time
people love wz2
Flooding is what EA does with 2000 10$ DLCs
Remember to stay on track in this channel. 😛
Now this is relevant to ark 2 because we don’t want to see WC do this
my fault og
lol
THIS CHANNEL IS MINE!! We will talk about game design and our expectations for WC releasing ark 2 in the market!!!

i feel like cod has been printed into peoples mind tho
everyone knows when the releases are
Same way mario has
you dont even need to play the game
Or Pokémon for that matter
yeah but pokemon is not mid
beside brilliant diamond, i didnt really like that one
like the new ones
laughs in sun and moon
sw and sh was rlly good
Ahem
go on]
True. Lots of fake hate. I wonder if ark 2 will get their version of “dexers”
Mam, this is not GameStop Recommendations Chat
People who reee and lose their minds because their favorite irrelevant tame didn’t make it in
M o d s e x I s t
Can you imagine the salt if gigas get cut? I’m already praying just so I can watch
if theres still no acrocanthosaurus i might have to riot
This is about “official” ark 2, since that’s what WC is creating
gigas are cool but if they remove dodos imagine the outcry
I know
It's a modded creature and will never ever be official
acros are a real dinosaur tho
They don't because "t r a i l e r"
hypothetical
Mazzy doesn’t work well with those
Yes but still not in the ARK official dino roster
is there a roster
Not a confirmed one
I rather have a reduced roster than a over bloated one at start
Especially with spawns also contribute to server lag even without builds
And the typical issue of "useless dinos"
What I’d love is regular wipes on half the servers and not on the other
after then im only using dodic, anky, rex for breed and bosses, thyla for cave, basi for cave
and i guess the beaver
Since that way early game creatures can shine each wipe
It’s really sad to see early game creatures that are really cool never get any attention because the official clusters “age” and early game only happens once
moschops never stops being reliable tho 💯
After I played ATLAS close to Vanilla and been with Ned's Normality Map made more realize how spawns do contribute to the lag not just the tames
I just opened genesis 1
ocean biome floods my game with lag
they should just reduce spawns after a certain point in the game then
like after taming 25% of the dinosaurs in the game
Gen 1 ocean proved my point where you have to choose between more dino variety but less spawn or more spawns but less dino variety
The issue is the breeding will take over the lag
i just breed halfway across the map from my base
That is just you but I am talking about multiplayer
“Active” Tame counts across the board have to decline
It’s a massive source of lag, and will only get worse as tames get more complex
make it possible to breed in cryos
but thats not cool
but pvp players dont care about cool
they just want to take peoples metal and stuff
The simple answer yes is to convert most tames to a UI (cryofridge etc etc)
But "No TeK"
have a breed limit
Ignoring the obvious statement above, yes you can make a UI that holds most player’s tames
no stat mutations
No stat mutations is also a good move to avoid pressuring players to spam breed
yeha
The thing is PVP in ARK is about sending your children as cannon fodder for your enemy turrets
You could also change how tame combat works so it’s worthwhile to invest in a single tame rather than in tons of babies
just have low chances to find really high level dinosaurs in the wild. it encourages more pvp
Some games have “killing” a tame/companion/familiar simply put it on a long cooldown instead of permanently removing it
is lots of pvp not good
Lots of PvP is good, but lots of RNG is poo
You can do the same thing with fewer spawns
RNG sucks that is why I am fully against stat mutation breeding
You need some RNG or a game’s longevity suffers
But mutations and scouring the map for high level tames is not it
That IS RNG. You have to hope the high level tame spawns somewhere you can access/isn’t near an enemy/doesn’t die to other wild creatures
That is still RNG even of it's guaranteed
oh yeah
cause it could spawn right next to alphas base
now you have no chance to get it
Sure, but that’s more of a “content over time” solution
Ye but Fortnite is a test game for UE
They can afford slap some updates with events
I’m sure the PvP community approves
Guns but it's more skin than function lmao
but i did feel like there was a lack of weapons at the end of pvp
from what ive seen
nobody uses cannons 😔
I mean ARK is a "dinosaur game" not a gun game
Viability of ark 1 engrams is a big sticking point to me
what if they removed the engram system and just had a leveling system
Space whale taming
like ATLAS ~Mazzy
I think knowledge points should play into this too
like the destiny 2 crafting system
Knowledge points unlock certain aspects of crafting and blueprints. Remember, it’s modular
i'll say it again, replace blueprints and tiers with the upcomming component based crafting system to increase stats with various materials
So knowledge points could be required to use certain materials or make certain modules
destiny 2
base weapon
"so like ATLAS"
~Mazzy, 2020
then in the upgrade stations you add stuff like perks and stuff
that you unlock by doing things
like gen 1 missions but no as annoying
what do you mean, i love Downriver run
Not at all what’s being proposed I don’t think
like for example kill 50 therizinosaurs and now youve unlocked extra melee damage
I think each weapon is MADE UP OF components and modules
For example a spear is made of a shaft and a spear head, and each one can be made of different materials, which effect weapon stats
narcotic spear
Sure. But it won’t be slapping upgrades onto a finished spear I don’t think
find like a stick
Achievement skills are interesting in theory but that may depends if there is someway people will abuse/cheese it
then find a spear head
add the therizino powder and scorpion powder
extra damage + poision spear
“Kill 10 scorpions” is more I believe a statement about gathering mats than a formal achievement
Yea what I’m saying is I think the spear head is made and the process ends
You don’t spank random powders on stuff to upgrade it
No different that "different kinds of arrows" tbh
isnt ark 2 more melee oriantated tho
In principle, yes it’s the same concept as different arrow heads
I’m gonna say there’s a 0% chance we don’t see a bow
Who knows how it’ll work, but I can’t imagine we’ll be primitive without one lol
you add things for a different air attack
That is gonna be a lot of animations
I am glad they drop the whole "survival game" bit
some do more speed less dmg or less speed more dmg
i just hope melee is usefull for more of the game
They were pretty clear that they were not dropping it any more than ark 1 dropped it
melee damage is the least usefull upgrade in the game pvp and pve
I’m tired of you mischaracterizing that Mazzy
laughs in oxygen
Italics mean sarcasm... You should knew it by now lol
Other chatters don’t know that. And it’s not always in italics
Melee effects harvest amount, so it’s not useless
I suppose the most useless is food and water
Also applies to players
nobodies farming with a player after 2 hours of playtime
Who they fuck thinks "bonk taming" is useless
How dare ye
On official you sure are, since it takes 3 hours to tame any herbivore
We have seen a bow
beach bobs with clubs tend to disagree with it being useless
i wanna be able to make that allo skull club from the ark 2 announcement trailer
club fidget spinner
kylo ren lighstaber but its just clubs
and you add scorpion powder
and therizino powder
For one thing I would love to see like base grade weapons brittle easy until you get upgrades for damage and dura

I hate low durability weapons
just play the most populated unoficcial
More reason to upgrade them instead of making more of the same thing
boomerang
“Wow this mechanics based combat is so cool!” “JK my weapon broke so now I have to grind mats and avoid combat”
Most populated unofficial is either 5 players or heavily modded
bam server
Thats xbox only
This is not Server Suggestions Chat
Zelda BotW says hi
Anyway dynamic water systems and having to worry about water sources drying up will be interesting but probably annoying to most people
A lot of games have durability zelda is probably the least impactful because of how easy it is to find new weapons
The combat was uh. Well I’ll leave that to those fans lol
I like ATLAS' way of making wells and where you dig any non-bedrock land to place a well on it while the water barrels collect rain like in ARK
Gonna direct you to the history of this chat where the reasons for why that would be horrible came up
Well ark 2 wont be all saltwater for surface water
wtf is atlas
But havibg those as options maybe
We are not in the ARKs anymore
He doesnt know 😳
everytime you say it i think of the warframe character
"Pirated ARK"
Im assuming that arat water is still water
poggers
Arat water is Dasani and the island’s ocean is Poland springs, I will not elaborate
And they said no super realistic survival i assume you can drink most water straight from river without getting mega diarhea
Who knows the water is undrinkable to humans
just like the water in Rockwells Innards is actually his pee
free pee
If their water is NYC water, you will make the best pizza out of them
If element is anything like radioactive materials last thing you want is to injest it so if the water is really bad either native life adapted to whatever toxic materials are in the water somehow which is in the water, there is a dangerous virus or element is in it and i dont think anything wants to eat/drink/breath that
I think its just gonna be water though
“Toxic” is a term that only holds meaning to whatever life interacts with it
Toxic to us can be ideal living conditions for another organism
Toxic to us but not natives
Basically
Agree it’s prolly gonna be water lol
Since we see so much heckin earth plant life there’s no way it’s not water 😂
One day the world will realize alien planets need not earth plant life…so many “alien planets” of pine and palm trees 😂
Low key want to have a buildable filter or rain catcher
There could be like an element meter where if you eat to much element you start getting debuffs since exploding a ship from element not to far away and also crashing another part onto the surface near where you are living cant be good
Gonna go ahead and hold X on that one
Its just gonna be in everything to some degree
Since it sounds like ark 2 isn’t getting much more intense on the survival front than ark 1
The ship exploded on a planet, not on the jungle moon
So I’m guessing what we’ll see is basic food water temperature and maybe a hazardous environmental condition
Explosions usually go in all directions
And even then that still leaves eden ring
Gravity be like:
If the planet and the moon is that close to have ship debris fall on that moon then everyone and everything in that moon is f u c k e d
The skybox may not rely on physics
I suspect there is no “space”box in ark 2
Atmospheric Friction be like:
I mean just from what we see when we look up
I hope they pull off the Ext skybox where beyond that is too hot to thrive in
Anyway time to pick another random topic we have talked about before and make similar reasonings to last time we talked about it
Judging from what we can see of the celestial body i dont think that just the small part we are on is surrounded by heat
We pretty much talked about every possible gameplay guesses
And we still have a month left until extra life
Or cold
Cold burns exist
Lore talks make me pass out. So boring lol
Show me lore, not tell
Unfortunately game or show not out yet
World building is critical to good immersion, I won’t disagree
But sometimes I do want someone to tell me something lol. Especially if they want me to know something so they can build up a story…I hate guessing what the plot of a game is
Massive difference between content, and a whole new game.
Not for many annual releases
For ark perhaps, but that's also evident in the much faster development cycle of DLC versus Ark 2. I suspect COD games are not following the same timeline because they are making fewer fundamental engine changes and are instead using previous code bases
By that you mean they’re just making a few new maps and slapping skins on everything to resell it
The point is that Wildcard doesn't have the employees to make a whole new game from the ground-up, and all of the DLC's for it before it even releases.
They might have them conceptually already planned out, but an actual working product of the base-game and all DLC's? I doubt it.
Well duh
@tropic crag
This pains me
It’s not really up to WC
It all depends on how players will receive it
If in 5 years the number of players is still high, they might develop more DLCs

I’m not sure where you read this in my messages. The development pace of 6months or so between content drops occurs after launch, not alongside it
Absolutely true that a project like ark 2 can’t be churned out on the same timeline Fjordur and community maps can…and likely not even the big story maps. But I suspect ark 2’s life time will also include regular content releases
#PleaseQuetzalsInArk2
Gonna go a step further and say #pleaseTLCquetzark2
i really hope they are not going to just copy paste some dinos from the old game
I’m not sure they can given the new combat style, AI, and events
right
i'm not sure if i have understood correctly but the creatures are supposed to like be able to smell and hear you
they will now hunt based on smell, sight and sound as the steampage describes with the improvements with dino AI
alright sounds awesome!
I mix you up with Raq all the time.
I’m choosing to take offense 😂
That was the idea.
What it means is that there’s a likely decrease in initial roster size. I’m choosing to go full “analyze every micro part of the last stream” and say it’ll be about 60
Which is I think about 30-40% of the ark 1 roster?
iirc base ark with island only has like 100 creatures
is there a release date yet?
so no there isnt
A year is a release-date.
It is the date of the year that it's being released in.
yea but in game dev language its still a dream
I’m curious if WC internally thinks of stuff like coel as an equal part of the roster to say a raptor or a rex
I wonder if they have a list of “complex” and a list of “simple” creatures
When saying how many creatures are in the game, yes
But i mean they probably think of it more as is it finished in terms of development yet or do they want to add more later
well we know in ark at least there is some difference in dino ai
but its based off a tier list of sorts
so Im curious how arkII will do it
Not many, though.
the game is nowhere near finished though, its releasing in early access for a reason
A good portion of creatures just have the original raptor BP as their AI
Which is amusing since afaik current raptors don’t use original raptor AI
Oh no, I believe they still do.
They just added onto them of being able to have new abilities.
I hope that the new ai makes it so that carnivores aren't just mindless murdering machines
Like they only hunt other animals at a certain hunger amount
And you know
A Carno won't go after a bronto or something
I think pack hunting would also be super cool. A “sizing up” of opponents and retreating process would be even better. But at some point I’m dreaming
Like
'IF' everything they say in the steam-page is true, then this isn't too far off.
A compy shouldn't attack a trike
Or a rex attack a compy
Ngl I think wildcard is being over ambitious
That's literally 99% of studios
It's called "marketing"
That's why it's coming out in Early-Access
EA's are no different then beta's.
All that really matters is how it's going to be on official release.
They normally don't its based on lvl I believe
Sounds like its gonna be a very cool game, I would like to see armor for dinos finally, the new combat system actually working out well, and a more interactive story, but also including the notes
Size is what determines if one Dino will attack another. Level has nothing to do with it.
Cool. Thanks for the information.
Either way, carnos don't attack brontos regardless 😂
If it manages to fire up and play the quality you’re gonna get will not be worth it
All good broham, no worries
You could ask in general, but good luck getting an answer in there lol
Ok thank you
Is it the third person thing? It’s the third person thing isn’t it?
ark 2 has been in development for at least 2 years now
So hopefully nothing has been rushed
You would honestly prefer combat to be little gremlins running around at Mach Jesus speed trying to land a hit on one another?
Also where did you see Ark 2 combat? Would love to see it working
I disagree. Ark 1 combat is not good at all. It’s just right click spam. Ark 2 already seems far more promising than Ark 1.
(no one likes dark souls combat)
-The whole souls-community:
lol
I feel that it's a good thing they're changing things up in ARK-2. There'd be no point in buying the game if it was a copy of ARK
Tbh
That’s really honest
It is a risky move to change so much the game, but I would wait gameplay footage to judge. I mean, all the changes might make more sense when see them working together.
There is no possible way that any game is gonna be cheat free when people keep cheating
Cheaters will find their way regardless how well made the game is
Nope
ARK is not special
All games are prone to this especially competitive games
First off, we dont allow game devs to make sequels lol, that is a decision they make.
Because it's a 7 year old game with dated code
I mean, I am going to get ark2. They changes they have stated so far seem like huge leaps towards what I wanted ark1 to be
Welcome to the freaking Games Industry
No need to watch when I am playing now in 2022
Lmao
I am already informed because I played the game
If you dont see cheaters in other games you really get lucky lol
Well you don't get any good arguments if your mindset is "watch this video because I am right"
lol it is already a normal thing in ARK 1, there is nothing do about it and move on
I mean, if you are getting all your ark1 info from a single video, that doesnt seem well informed to me lol
Cheaters gonna cheat
And without moderation then what is the point of "removing cheaters" anyways
Bruh I have 4k hours
That is all the info I need
A lot and that is why #NoMoreOfficial
This seems to be more of an ark1 conversation, #ark-survival-ascended would probably be a better place to move it
Wonna end cheaters? End Official
No the cheaters themselves
They want to win and make the game crap in the progress
It technically does
None
No game relies on anticheats alone
Name one game does that aside from ARK
Because ARK proved that anti cheats is not enough
Its an 8 year old game, trying to fight of new cheat methods. Its not surprising that its getting worse at it
Even if so the outcome will still the same, cheaters gonna cheat. Unless there is an active moderation
I mean Rube is right that WC has demonstrated a serious lack of ability to manage the reported CoC violations they get
That kinda proves my point
The solution is to either hire people to actually manage the reports and manually provide relief from cheaters
Or…don’t bother offering official if you can’t make it free of cheaters
Yes
I dont get my info on the state of ark from a couple youtube videos though.
No Official means no Cheaters means more active moderation
Look at Mojang and Minecraft
Any caught cheating can easily purge that way
THEY couldn’t ever keep up with their cheaters, but it’s fine because they never HAD TO. They never offered official servers people would be able to cheat on
No official wouldnt be terrible for pc only servers, but console historically doesnt have access to easy unofficials and I dont really see that changing too much. So at least for the sake of console players I really dont see ark2 official not being a thing
It should be easier to offer console CoC reporting and violation support as well
Less cheaters -> less cheats -> less work ideally per violation report
50% is a huge overexaggeration
Plus Mod. io provide the mods for consoles anyways so why bother with official when you have modded unofficials to choose from
Sounds like WC can’t handle the volume of reports. Does that sound right to you?
Could be, but I still think that getting rid of official would not be a great move
For PC I think removing official would be a valid option if CoC violations are still not able to be handled effectively
It is not profitable to run it anyways
What’s crazy is that official probably IS profitable
If he is talking about visual ini edits maybe. But aimbotting? I would say from experience that less than 3%
How I'll they gain money from that then?
On console official I hear is nearly half the players and thus half the payers
Looks like you never been in an understaffed office before
I mean, they do have a huge population of people on official that follow the dlcs, so that in and of itself is huge
Those are just DLCs.. not from the actual server itself
They can still make profit that way without official
It’s a trade off
You lose players who would only play official when you remove it
But you gain the money wasted hosting official
Could be, I guess the only way to see is to compare how popular games that offer official are compared to unofficial only
Sounds like a good reason to not offer official to me
Minecraft is the #1 selling game of all time and it has no official 🙂
It has a pretty major PvP scene
Really?
That kinda proves my point still
Why bother keeping it when you can just do that, offer DLCs or even bring back game modes like SoTF or make MTS Arena official
I would love to see more game modes like that offered
Unlike ark though minecraft PvP is hosted in a huge variety of gamemodes and servers
Dream and Technoblade are Minecraft PVPers
Agree. So I guess my question to you is why offer official at all? Since it clearly doesn’t work as intended what with all the cheating
That is the reason why official should not be in ARK 2 and my sole reasoned why reliance on anticheats is not enough, you need active moderation
I mean, technically yes. But from what I have seen of both of them they just do event servers, or small things against random people. Nothing like ark
At that point you might as well ask why even offer pvp
Kinda like ARK, see unofficial
There are some massive hundred/thousand player server clusters for minecraft PvP like Hypixel
…yes. And I proposed a solution that matches the level of attention the WC team is giving it
Or, say with me now... U n d e r s t a f f e d
Yes
It looks like you’re struggling to grasp that official doesn’t need to be offered
We have beaten that topic to death lol. Wipes on official will do nothing but reduce the duration of time that it is popular
That takes time, especially with false reports
For ark2, official in general wiping should not be a thing
And what about false reports?
Have you ever been a server as a moderator before because I do and it is not easy being a mod
Time to quote you again
"You are not informed"
Let’s say (to be nice) there are 1000 players on official and 30 reports a day
If I work 8 hours on only reports…that’s about 4 reports an hour, so 15min per report
There are usually 100k concurrent players. Probably 25k on pvp. And people have a tendency to spam report things. I think 10k or more reports at least weekly is a low estimate
I have my personal experience as an ARK server moderator for a short time compared to you quoting a YouTuber and thinking it's like a bible
The dude’s right that cheating is running rampant in ark lol
I think he, like many people, believe the solution is to magically have more people addressing cheaters
But that costs money and manpower lol
Welcome to ark lol. People do that
Yes I am aware but the kid never realized that a small team of people handling tickets is not enough
And they just don't ban the player in an instant, they have to check if it is a false report because people abuse reports as well
A single photo would not be enough to prove the world isnt flat if that is your point
Well yes, so we have to educate lol
But that is just me being a scientist
There are enough but nothing Happens
Totally agree. It would be idiotic to say “ark isn’t having a problem with cheaters”
The video shows that is normal on official
Nothing. Fucking. special
Official is a privilege, not a right 😂
It is going to repeat the same exact arguments that have been repeated over and over in almost every pvp video since the start of ark. It wont bring anything new to the table, and it probably doesnt offer any useful solutions
