Since it would be a singleplayer game you are hosting you have to be in the world for him to play, you would need to get a server and make a password only you guys know to allow him to play whenever without you having to log on or log on when he wants to play

Yup I am a strong advocate for the pillar/ladder style. When I played on the island I pillared all the metal/obsidian spots, most of the rivers to preserve Spino spawns and beavers, and the entire Carno island, and the icebergs where oil and penguins were. People absolutely hated it until explaining what the reasoning was

Tip: If ark is getting too big for your PC, then try to use Compactor or Compact.GUI to help compress it. Many videos go into explanation about it but basically, it can save you probably around 100-200 Gigabytes based on the amount of mods, maps, and files you have in ARK. If you still don't have enough space and want to uninstall the game but you have lots of progress, one way to do it is save the ARK save files and transport them to a different folder. This may not be the best option and can probably break (I am not sure though) but it is one of the only options. Hope this helps for you!
