so I've played single player ASA since release for a few reasons, but lately been feeling lonely. I figured I'd try some unofficials, but I've found that even 150-200 ping is pretty rough to play. Everything feels delayed, some have weird restrictions (some are completely against the train system or ban it, some want you to pay IRL to use it etc)

I feel like the the ASE unofficial scene was a lot "better"

is it just me or is ASA like this?

I didn't have any of these kinds of troubles with ASE, nothing was really banned that was part of the official game, really the only servers I had issues playing on were officials. It was a matter of finding the right community

There was even a cluster I played on that have club ark turned off completely due to exploits, idk just feels weird to me.

ASE had the same stuff.
being against the train system and banning it makes sense when you realize they block people building near it.
you just need to find the right server for you 🤷 or host your own. which is one of the reasons why ASE steam and SO many servers, because people didn't like how others did it.

lots of clusters have club ark off because they don't want to pay for another server. afaik there aren't any current exploits with it.

I'm picky about servers though. I like the good ol max dino lvl of 150. I feel like anything past that, it gets wild with trying to tranq them down and it feels like you're super over powered in the world with post tame level 400+ dinos when the max dino lvl is 300 for example (seems to be a semi popular max lvl). But I've even been more "forgiving" for certain mods and rates. I played on one yesterday that 1 level in weight put my weight at 10k 👀 I thought to myself "thats one way to do a weight mod". But it felt like it was super dead and had some things like club ark turned off & the paid train system so it just felt kinda meh

just tried enabling FSR3 in the engine.ini file. If this is what is coming in the September major update, bring it on!

Frame rates way up (I'm also running the AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 driver on a Radeon 7800XT).

You get slight hitches in motion (could be drivers or FSR, not sure) but it was very playable at 2560x1440 on Elite settings

adding to that, your best bet at the 300US$ mark would be a used card from a gen ago. an RX 6800 or GTX 3080 if you can get it, but unlikely. current gen, the 7700 XT makes the 4060 ti variants pointless. 4070 is where nvidia starts to have any value

nvidia's better upscaling tech almost closes the gap of raw performance, and only in supported games. and ones that dont choke on the low memory capacity and speed. or when their ancient, shitty software is not broken

I saw a graph of performance and price relative to the top spec nVidia card in each generation. the 4060 dropped down a whole tier from the the 3060 preceding it but the price didn't drop down accordingly. Hence me saying it should have been called the 4050.

i.e. if the 3060 had 60% of the performance of the 3090, then the 4060 only has 40% of the performance of the 4090. I can't remember if those were the exact figures but it's around that ballpark

iirc the ping you're seeing on the pause menu of the game is the compressed ping that UE uses. That ping value is the ping amount for your connection / 4. It also is capped at 255 since its is an uint8, that was how it worked in ARK:SE, I'm not sure if they changed it in ARK:ASA

and the value can go way over 255

having done lag compensation in mods for ASE, i can pretty safely say the value the engine reports is close to accurate

oh, i see what you mean. that is an internal variable that is just using a byte to save some space, it is not normally even exposed.. extremely dubiously useful as an optimization, but a lot of internal ue4 stuff feels like it was built for late 90s internet

In ARK:ASA they are grabbing the ExactPing. I believe in ARK:SE they were grabbing ping. Should be more accurate in ASA then.

force feeding it doesn’t really do much, it’s hp will heal back to how much it’s supposed to be at as long as it has food in its inventory

just keep food in the dinosaur so that it can eat but don’t force feed it that’s not required

just make sure you’re there for the last few seconds of impregnation because sometimes by off chance your dino will die to starvation last second before the rhynio hatches

so force feed in in the last few moments. otherwise, you’ll be alright.

Sol I feel like this needs to be asked... what determines a structure's refresh on its timers on PvE? I play PvE official and log on every 3 days or so. I log into my main base first, then travel to any mini-bases around the map to refresh my timers. Today I logged on and noticed my beehives decayed. Beehive decay is 4 days, so why did they disappear if I logged in well within my 3 day timer?

The whole map is an underground cavern apart from 3 smallish surface areas which is where the obelisks are. Everyday the surface is on fire, you can't build up there. There is no fliers on the map, although there is rock drakes who can glide and climb. There's 3 main regions, the green zone is where you start, it's more familiar, with leavy green trees etc, further in the map it turns into the blue zone, more dangerous creatures and different resources. Finally the red zone is the deepest part and has constant radiation poisoning. That's where the drake nests are and the reaper queens. Be prepared if you go there transferring back out is difficult until you're well set up, because getting to the obs is tough and whilst there are drops they aren't always easy to get to. There's a lot more but I think covered the basics. Did I mention the earthquakes?

Primal chaos is an overhaul mod, it's not usually compatible with other mods that remap the same creatures. Take out s variants and then do a wild dino wipe and see.

You typically want to research before tossing mods in together, your only other option is to keep both mods and do a dino wipe and hope for the best. Make sure the primal chaos is loaded before s variants.

I think it’s the coding base of the games that has the limitations, not Unreal itself, and the refusal of many companies to try new things is definitely not helping them.
I think ASA’s replication of many issues from ASE is testament to this refusal to try new things, since the issues show that the code is almost a 1-to-1 copy of the old code, so instead of learning from ASE’s issues they just stuck with the same code, despite having an opportunity to streamline the code and even potentially reduce the impact on devices. And I don’t think it would have been too much for them either, I don’t blame Wild Card, I blame Snail Games because I’m sure Wild Card would have loved to try something new to try and make it work better, but such is the problem with companies like Snail, EA, and so on, and their refusal to try new things.

I do need to add that it’s not entirely Snail Game’s fault for this fear of change, generally when you get comfortable with something you tend to fear change or experimentation and even the suggestion to do so can be scary, look at all kings and emperors who had potentially revolutionary items destroyed on site for whatever reason, usually an illogical fear of change, my favorite example is the Jade Glass from what I believe was China, which was destroyed because the emperor thought it would devalue gold.

It’s human instinct, which is why Snail needs to have some motivation to experiment rather than rely on old habits, unfortunately I doubt this will happen any time soon.

Snail is making all the mistakes with none of the money to back it up, so there’s a high chance they crumble before ARK 2 ever gets released.

Sometimes it bugs out and still thinks they're unclaimed, if you didn't feed them fast enough they can starve and your tames will go for the corpses, making it look like the tames killed them also.

Hi all, did anyone recently get +10 levels from collecting Explorer notes? If yes, did you have to collect Island notes or also Scorched? I know Island was enough before SE was released, but how is it now?

I have reports from 2 different players on our server, that collecting just Island notes only gave them achievement, but not +10 levels.

you have to get all notes for the levels. once ab comes out you'll have to get all island, se, and ab for them, but once you get it on your implant they are unlocked even after new maps with notes come out

If you've got everything default, no it's not impossible. Just takes longer. You have to wait for the maturation timer, and then imprint every 8 hours. For those on SP, that can take forever unless you leave your world on/open at all times.

Hello I've encountered a very annoying bug and even after scouring the internet I've found no solution. Basically on my Megachelon base crops won't get automatically irrigated, when it should be one of the creature's features. It's very annoying since a piping system will ofc not work on a mobile base. depending what u have , a berry gatherer is my first port of call, then progress to fliers and resource tames

yeah, for me I count resource tames as dinos you tame for farming. even counting dinos like frogs because they farm cementing paste and chitin

I never watched beginners guides I watched a lets play and pained through. granted ark was a lot simplier in 2015 😂

lolz i struggled for the first week or so, then had some friends show me the ropes. Then got to apoint i was beyond there skill sets an started watching a few youtubes on ark , got addicted an the rest is history haha

wait I just realized. why did I skip rag... I didn't actually play it at release for some reason. every other map I came back to ark and played on release just not rag.

maybe thats why I don't like it 😂

Rag's beginning was annoying with the ice wyverns looking like reskinned lightning wyverns
