Breeding Answers - Extreme TL;DR Edition:

Dino Stats - Dino stats are broken up into two main categories: Base stats, and leveled stats (terminology may vary). Both are based on a point system, where each stat has x amount of points. These are then taken by the game and translated into the big numbers that you see. A rex with 10 points in hp would not have 10 hp, it would have something like 1247 hp.

Base stats are the ones that are actually inherited by children. The game chooses randomly between the stat of one parent and the stat of another, and assigns it to the child. Leveled stats are not given to children.

Imprinting - This is a buff that goes to the individual dinos. Not inherited.

Mutations = Basically, there's a random chance for the stat that's inherited from a parent to increase by 2 upon a mutation. This is how you increase strength across generations.

easiest crystals i can think of to get is the ones in lava cave at the entrance , there is no angry dinos anywhere near that place so you can get a ton of crystals even at the lowest level possible if you have metal pick

Can't go wrong with making things harder. If you're worried about griefers as far as servers go try joining a PVE server. It'll let you get used to playing with people and lets face it Ark is the most fun with others.

If you're after a more hardcore experience, first thing you should probably do is actually turn singleplayer settings off. If you're after something more casual, keep them on

I do recommend cranking up a lot of the rates either way, but also depending on how much time you actually have to play and with the understanding that the game freezes when you're not playing in singleplayer. Shorter times on the various breeding durations make a lot more sense when they're not continuing to do their thing when you're offline, etc (Setting rates stack with singleplayer stuff keep in mind- 4x resources might seem reasonable without singleplayer settings but balloons to effectively 10x with SP mode on)
