It’s buggy af and pretty limited (tether)
Get a dedicated, as someone suggested ASM is really good. Not too difficult to setup and with maybe 3 or 4 GB of ram dedicated to it and CPU power sufficiently available you can easily host and game at the same time. When I run ark on an official I get maybe 20% CPU usage, so I guess if your CPU is below 50% during gaming and you have at least 4 GB of ram “unused” give it a try

yes, but you need to disable hibernation otherwise they can be deleted on singleplayer permanently

Preventing hibernation fixes resource and dino respawn bugs, and allows buff-based mods (that apply their mods only in specific circumstances) to work, allows the S+ dino finder to work properly, and I do highly recommend running with the launch paramater. But I do have to warn that if you later re-enable hibernation (remove the launch option), it can cause crashes. This seems to be able to be fixed by launching with certain launch params and dinowiping, but I've not run any save like that for an extended amount of time so I can't say if it's 100% effective in the long term or not. You'll need to add it to the steam launch paramaters- Right click on ark on steam, properties. Add exactly this- Hyphen included- -preventhibernation
It also increases ram usage quite a bit, but is very much worthwhile

literally nothing seems to either want to or be capable of killing them out in the wild randomly

so do not put them on dino leash / cages, that'll drastically hamper their gather rates

AC units bro, they auto regulate the temperature for whatever egg your hatching. But you’ll need a power generator to supply power to the ac. You need gasoline to power the generator

@long flicker SED spawns a random dino, then modifies its properties after the fact, and doesn't update the DCSC or colourisation. dino spawned like that needs to be cryopodded (sometimes twice), just like after SDF.

Statistically it should, from years of official and many many many tamed Dinos (additionally to what everyone else basically recommends) I can tell that you will not need to tame too many Dinos (and for sure less than what it would take with mutating) to get 40+, 45 is still okay and 50 is rather rare.
My highest one had 53 in damage on a 150 perfect tame.
For 210 it’s the same chance, just calculate how much more percentage and when you add that to 50 points, you come out at roughly 85 points for 210s

I think mantas are generally faster than itchys, at least they feel like it
You can super easily passive tame itchys with meat tho, and tusos are okay to tame as well, all you need is black pearls and some (normally one will do even) tamed carbonemys, maybe a raft and sth like a megalodon etc to deal with potential threats
Pearls were / are super easily available on Rag near the S/E islands by hand in shallow water

you need to get picked up by them and they'll eat bloodpacks in your inventory and it drops you every 10 bloodpacks, rinse and repeat. you need to let it pick up creatures to increase taming effectiveness because it starts at around 50%

not only is it cheaper but 1 narcotic is around 8 seconds of torpor raise while 5 narcoberries is 15 seconds of torpor raise. if torpor is rising, it cant go down. works best with high torpor drains like theris. of course being lighter and not spoiling is a huge advantage so i'd get them on the go.
