astraeos wasn't in ASE so its not free. it was a premium mod map that became more

the actual difference is, that in ASE, you could raid X tribes on every free maps you had access to. And you ALL would be on the same ground/level.
If you couldnt access certain maps, that didnt leave you at any disadvantage in fights (only in terms of resources) at all.
However, the Pyromane and certain Bob´s items will give you HUGE advantages in ALL fights against players, no matter where/on what map they are.
So if you dont spend money, you miss out on really powerful tools when fighting. And you get dominated by other players EVERYWHERE who paid real money to get the upper hand....

i feel like, gen2 is the one huge exception that is right, this map literally turned ark into fibercraft (aka all resources for basically free)
but i think alot of the pvp frustration comes from when you have to fight some random persons on any map (island etc) and they just totally obliterate you because they have access to like pyromane, or when their bases are protected by teslas, or when their dinos are much much stronger due to traits. So this now becomes a real issue to the average player as they will just get obliterated in these fights

I genuinely think it comes down to player experience.
in ASE it just wasnt as noticeable. There was always a discussion around p2w regarding resource gathering, since basically all maps including Ab and going forward made progression and cloning etc much much cheaper/easier/faster. But that didnt much concern a lot of the like rather "normal" player that wouldnt play in mega tribes and so on.
but now EVERYONE will get totally clapped by OP dinos/items unless they pay for it, which feels much more "in your face" than before
