a capper polarbear i see
loo's campus looked kinda depressing on google street view lol
it is
Yeah I heard loo is only good for internships
All the pictures of the Vancouver campus looked beautiful
hey new engineering is nice, everything else is bad :D
neet
*new engineering
rip
sad faculty of maths hours
no response = no L is my motto from now on
every app is an L is my motto
oof
I never leave the eng part of my campus lol
same
𤔠going to classš¤”
keener
Yee that's what I liked about UofT
NYU kinda similar, just in the middle of a city
rip
you're also a neet sooooo
:^D
what is loo
It's british slang for toilet
damn British
battle of waterloo
man fuck TC, I just wanna be happy
i clicked apply hope i get job
Letter of rec
500 word statement of purpose and letter of rec sounds toxic
college application throwback

I thought it couldnāt get worse
Than college apps
At least they donāt ghost me
they make you pay for the rejection letter tho
It really has just been downhill since then
$75 per rejection
I have to pay to send scores too
college is a scam
true
all i do is scream at my computer all day i didnt sign up for this
i didnt pay $30k to click mute / video off every class
my university is going fully back to normal fall 2021
samesies
fuck covid, all my homies hate covid
we getting blacked out every football game folks!
Anyone do the hiring manager interview for qualtrics?
Anyone ever successfully push a summer internship to spring

tuition is theft
Yea but it depends on the company
Yeah now that i think about it
why the fuck did it cost $75/app in college when companies do it for free
mine too
but tbf texas made it so everyone eligible to get the vaccine on march 29
ontario
Vaccine is one thing the U.S. is actually doing a good job with
Florida just announced April 5th for everyone eligible
For any freshman sophomore women, two sigma is hosting a mock interview day https://careers.twosigma.com/careers/UniversityJobDetail?jobId=7725
Are you a first- or second-year college woman interested in a career in tech/quantitative finance? Have you ever wondered what a technical interview for software engineers/quantitative researchers...
new years all I did was leetcode okay,
valententine's day all I was did was stuck inside of my house because of the blizzard in Texas okay,
see what's about to happen next okay
okay
okay```
Is PayPal better than Tesla?
Looking for most resume impact
PayPal have weird start date for itās coop
So, I have to decide if itās worth doing everything for PayPal or just take tesla offer
I would think Tesla seems better but the difference is like negligible
Sweet! Thatās what I thought tbh
yeah I would tend to side with Tesla as well, even with the lower intern pay
You crazy, tesla is not negotiable lol
Tesla is negotiable in terms of wage and start date. The start date for PayPal is weird and requires me to be at PayPal for 6 months
Isn't that more of a co-op type thing then?
Yeah I mean If* someone got tesla, u don't think twice of accepting it
Yeah itās a coop.
True but Iām looking for resume impact. I just want to make sure that I pick the right choice, which Iām picking tesla tbh
daddy musk š©
That's insane
@formal finch could you share your* story of success in dm pls serious
Quick story : itās just cold emailing ppl
U have to be persistent and make your emails straight to the point and not a lot text. Send the email on Tuesday thru Thursday during lunch time of the recruiterās time zone
No it isnāt
They arrest you if you send more than 10 a day
Or if you buy premium plan you can do 25
Which app is it or something?
Lol Iām kidding dude
They are joking lol
Obv itās not illegal
Cold emailing is fine
Usually on LinkedIn
Find recruiters on there
I am hearing about cold emails for the first time
Wasnāt lying about premium tho you might need LinkedIn premium to message some recruiters
wait so linkedin is fine
Anything is fine
do i ask to move to email
just bombard them
Itās not like they blacklist you if you spam
no one cares
oh
wait question
all you need is 1 person to get into the pipeline
so when i send connect message its 300 characters
I messaged to recruiter at oracle about application status since 1-2weeks passed, she have read it and still no reply
they don't have time to worry about a tiny intern
fax
is that really all i get 300 characters?
very important typo lol

alright imma crowdsource this decision
tho a glock might be possible if the company is a yee yee ass company
which gif should i pick for linkedin
Imagine recruiters having glocks on deck
Fun fact I got blocked by Msft recruiter
def 1st.
Second
Second
Second one
First one is over dramatic
Most ppl donāt know that N represents Netflix
^ š§¢
First one is cool looking but full company name is better
it shouldnt matter
kk, whatever maximizes recruiter eyes
Goal is to get blocked by a recruiter at every big company, letās get it
is that really all i get 300 characters for linkedin messaging?
like as in connect message
bc i dont think i can send more until i get the glock
Glock?
@formal finch could you share your text you send to recruiter pls
I am having mental block on writing essays because of school
Just talk bout how you exp matches the role that you applying for
Also mentioned that you applied to the role
wait essay
?
i thought there was a cap
oh wait, connect message, then essay with messaging?
āHi my name is FAANGbuster69420,
I do Leetcode 16 hours a day, please hire me. Thankā
š¤£š¤£ also worship elon musk
this one time a recruiter at microsoft was overly enthusiastic and was asking me if i wanted to schedule an interview
i said no cuz i had plans for the summer, and then she immediately hung up like mid sentence
:/
rip
it's like they don't care for anyone other than candidates
cause candidates = š°
To be fair they're a recruiter... If you're not a candidate, then what's the point?
At least the recruiter responded
Like it's still ride to hang up mid call tho lmao
Wouldāve definitely installed a virus on my windows pc after that
Just to get back at the recruiter
Facts
lmao
I did cs to having to avoid writing
just got assigned a 2k words long technical research paper for one of my CS classes
it really be ur own... huh
rip
i hate it here
I joined CS to avoid writing too but I still gotta take an advanced writing class rip
If I have to write documentation for my internship, imma throw hands
i did cs to avoid art shit, then for personal projects gotta implement a half decent ui
fuck it, I am assigning my documentation to the sophomore intern
Thankfully there are a lot of options for advanced writing from game design documents to cover letters lol
lmfao
hell yea let em know their place
that's literally what I did last summer
assigned my documentation to the freshman intern
but then I caught feelings and went on two dates with her
RIP
June 2022
will there be an open bar
perhaps.
it really bites u in the ass if u do
because who is gonna do documentation now...
Alright guys I got an email of the recruiter, sorry summer internship in August,
What can I write?
Lol you are together?
is this š§¢ or not
... thats just weird lmao
?
dating coworkers is pretty common
believe it or not
yeah no problem with that
i think i read it wrong that he was ft and went on a couple dates with a freshman intern lmao
ah yes a ft person in 2021_summer for interns
uh im an intern and i go into the new grad channels occasionaly
or maybe a ft person came back in to answer a question or give advice?
thats soooooo uncommon and impossible
i think i read it wrong that he was ft and went on a couple dates with a freshman intern lmao
this conversation is painful to read
yeaaa thats on me
LMAO
lmao and they guy who thought it was absurd for a FT guy to be in here
like that whole encounter was just pain
dude you're fulltime? go feed your kids lol
how
lol wtf why are recruiters so condescending?
i had an interview and they said the team was changed to a different one and asked if i was interested and i said i wasnt
then the recruiter tells me they decided i wasnt a good fit for the role
what the
this happened with 2 different companies
i reject the team they want to interview me for b/c it isnt what was advertised and they instead say i wasnt a good fit for the team lol
they want face
lmao
What a player
chad
oh twilio did this to me a few days ago
i told them i chose a different offer and they gave me the "you're not a good fit for the team" email lol
:weirdchamp:
thats so weird ive only ever gotten "congrats" about choosing another company's offer
oh yeah that usually happens, or recruiter asks to keep in contact, but idk what twilio doing
maybe recruiter got salty?
even the recruiter i reneged on wasn't this salty
so if remote work is only available in certain states can i just say iām in another state or will i have to provide proof of residence
you'll have to provide proof of resident
thats the reason why i reneged lmao the company didn't tell me until offer was signed
Yeah you need to provide proof of residence
it has to do with company pay roll being set up in certain states
like taxes and stuff i think
so can i just rent an apartment and then just not live there
i mean technically but also idk does that count as breaking tax laws i cant adult
I think you can
but yea that might count as breaking some laws lol
f
Though I've seen ppl do something similar for college tuition
They'll get an apartment in the state of that uni and then claim to be a resident of the state
i'm pretty sure that goes against some sort of law but you can try to get away with it, not that id recommend doing so
and go from out of state to in state tuition
oh wow
yee
some states have ways to stop that though lol
gotta prove that you've paid that state's taxes for a certain amount of time to claim to be a in state student
š
i mean i donāt mind paying taxes and such I just donāt wanna be in an area where I donāt have any friends lol
if I canāt go to work to meet people
Anyone heard back from microsoft garage internship?
what up my sons
They were nice enough to send a rejection enail
dad
what happened to the OG peepo
they're aight, just needed a break, might come back next hiring season
yeah the good ol days were mr emote, boba, peepo
but we keep moving forward, praying every day

does this shit get harder as time goes on or is it me
i feel like next year is gonna be deadly
Every year it gets more competitive
Thatās just natural in this industry
5-6 years ago FAANG were asking Leetcode easies
Look at the situation now
I mean with covid everything fucked up
And slowly getting better
Thatās true, but I believe thereās definitely a flip side to it
I mean internships were just diff back then
I feel like a lot of people got opportunities cuz of COVID. Virtual interviews made it a lot easier and cheaper for companies to hire interns at least
New grad got completely fucked over though
^
Which is why I delayed my graduation by a year
At least faang for mid level/senior hasnāt gotten much harder
Since it was already hard
Yeah but thatāll get more competitive within the coming years as well
Think about it
All the competition we have now for entry level will only slide to mid/senior level in a few years
The vision of FAANG has made everything a lot more competitive
Even though a lot of other companies have higher TC
I remember my dad getting asked 5 rounds of algorithmic questions for google back in 2010
Well yeah but the questions have definitely gotten harder IMO
Before it was heavy based on trees/easier concepts
Now everyone and their mom is on DP
And graph theory
But senior/high level roles havenāt changed much
Like itās why senior people get so many recruiters in their inbox
Too many open roles
Let me see if I can still find the questions my dad had saved up pre 2015
But like shit like this: 6 technicals rounds for senior roles in 2016 for a no name company
this is pretty standard afaik
pretty sure fit is more important than ability to some level in senior positions so makes sense to have longer conversations
lol no it is just because the generation grinding leetcode hard hasn't made it to mid level/senior yet
hey that looks like standard for normal intern roles nowadays

Yeah but senior/mid level role hasnāt changed much thank god
Itās still hard but its not getting harder
That was my point
it gets easier because you get better both as a dev and at interviewing and you (hopefully) have more experience
in college that ideally should heavily outpace the difficulty of interviews increasing
at least thats how ive always thought about it
Is there any source to review answers of behavioral questions?
"So when do I start?"
But seriously, you can probably ask more about the day to day responsibilities of an intern
i heard big boi B is stepping back, so how's about I fill in?
@dawn vessel its cliche but be yourself and ask what youāre genuinely curious about. Itās obvious when youāre pretending to be someone you arenāt in an interview, so be as comfortable with yourself as possible
How important is GPA?
Slightly but not everything for regular SWE
I already accepted an internship offer for this summer but just got the OA from a company Iād definite want to intern/work for in the future, am I safe to check out the OA for practice/see whatās up or would it be a bad look?
If companies treat candidates like shit I don't think there's any harm in checking OA
How many of y'all still don't have an offer for summer?
not important for most companies
I try to keep myself above a 3.5
LOLLL PREACH
I thought this was intern interview, I didn't read your message and almost threw up
Lol
Not sure if this is right place to post this, but myself and some of the other summer 21 American Express interns have a separate discord setup if anyone else would want to join that!
what do you guys think of a software engineer intern position at BCG and does anyone know how much they pay?
what are the consequences of reneging?
They may blacklist u but if ur nice abt it they won't
how would they blacklist? like in their own orgs or like they share ur deets to other HR peeps? and how do I go about being nice about it?
No idea abt bl, i haven't had that experience
There's a renege template in #2021_grads pinned
but only sometimes
its a great template but everyone uses it
Every company uses the same template to reject us though
whatās googleās policy about gpa? i remember they had something about 3.0 minimum but idk if thatās for every semester or just overall
Don't companies care about overall GPA
i donāt think amazon even knows my gpa
Cant u just put ur major or overall gpa
Whichever is higher
i heard google asks for transcript, idk tho
amazon doesn't
Yea so they won't care right
Bc I'm pretty sure major and overall gpa is listed
In transcript
yea it is
Can you apply for more than 1 position per company?
Yeah you can
does anyone else really want their semester to end so they can start internship
i just want my semester to end bc I want a break lol
9 weeks in and I'm just drained
well yea that
but theres like some light at the end of the tunnel
in that i can make some money
true
yes, looking forward to getting outta this hellhole of a school
yes lol
my ge class is getting on my nerves
our midterm was legit the most subjective fking thing
4 paragraphs on this open-ended question about religion
rip
my ge class just ended last week thank god
it was a half semester class
and it was fun for the first few weeks but then it just became a chore
The few gen eds I've taken have all been interesting
but the professor was insane in the way he graded papers. worse than my school's actual classes devoted to writing (which are also known to grade harshly)
damn
the prof for the ge i just finished pretty much gave you full credit on the writing assignments as long as they weren't copied from somewhere
id rather redo like half the assignments in my ds&a class than write this lol
I got an error
yo i was just about to take it. so its not working?
Yeah the test canāt start
My first gened traumatized me... it was literature. The professor gave us a 5-page essay like every week
Idk why some profs have to make these useless gened courses so damn difficult. And he gave everyone C's!
My freshman year I took a cultures gened class and I chose the Isreal/Palestine one and to this day that's still the only grade below an A- I have
After that I strictly chose easy geneds over interesting ones
i just want to graduate
^^^
God damn
Y'all are taking the wrong gen eds
My last gen ed just had a weekly quiz
And all the quizzes were open right from the start so I was done with the class in a week
Guys I am really worried I have been trying to get internship for this summer since last year lmaoooo and I still haven't got anywhere š
gimme hope
Keep searching! But real talk, its okay if you don't end up finding one. I'm a new grad right now and I know people who got internships and don't have jobs rn, as well as people who didn't get internships but grinded projects and took good courses and DO have jobs rn. Internships are definitely very important, but it won't be a dealbreaker if you don't end up getting one.
Maybe you can do research at your uni?
Yeah it's possible that I haven't done amazing projects that I should've done (projects that are full-stack and use stuff that employers love to see) Codeacademy has some good projects to build your portfolio with but the cost looked prohibitively high for me. Is it worth it idk?
At this point I have like over a thousand rejects and a couple of interviews lol. Maybe I should put more time into doing good projects
keep in mind, the point of doing projects is not to make your resume look better
its to learn new stuff or get better at what you already know
a project with a bunch of buzzword technologies isnt gonna help if you cant talk about it/have no reason that you picked that tech
Oh okay, I'll keep that in mind. So where can you start building your own projects on the technologies you want to learn? I am trying to think of good project ideas seems like I'm stuck thinking of which project I should do.
honestly i would just find an area you're interested in, and find a pretty common project and just start
like for me, last summer i wanted to learn web dev, so i made a clone of Trello
pretty straightforward but it helped me learn a lot
What yr are you?
If you're a sophomore or freshman at a non target then it's hard to get responses
Interesting, how do you manage the time to commit for personal project? like I would probably start and then I would just give and then this cycle continues and I donāt get anything done
I just became a junior
Pick something you WANT to do
Like all my projects are stuff that I'm really interested in
And I work on them for fun
So pick something that you find fun, and think about how you could make a project out of it
Like for example if you're into rocket league
maybe work on making a copycat rocket league game in unity
If you're into linguistics, do something with natural language processing
etc
A project doesn't have to be unique or even all that impressive tbh. As long as you're learning something and having fun doing it, then you're chilling
What's your grad yr
idk i would still find a way to make an interesting web app if you're after web dev internships
since you can attach a link on your resume
and it'll be deployed
and use tech employers are looking for
Fall 2022
True thatās why I was leaning into focus on the tech stack to learn and to create an app I want from what Iāve learned
doing a hackathon is also a good way to churn out a web/mobile project
and if you win something it'll look even better
and itll help learning design patterns for actual work/internships
unless ur looking for more embedded/infra roles
@blazing jewel what does ur resume look like
Can I pm you my resume?
just anonymize it and put on #resume
Okay
the right answer for projects is always: find something youre interested in, and just start building. if you want a more programmatic approach, ill give you what i did last summer- Learn React basics, build a frontend app with React. Then after you're comfy with react, build a full stack app with React and some backend REST framework like express with js or flask/fastapi with python
echoing @ashen needle also but start an app using a hackathon since they give you a forced time constraint
assuming you're starting from scratch
yea true
really depends how much time you have on your hands
last summer i worked a job from 5-10am and then did dev work the rest of the day, so i had plenty of time to work on projects, so i finished my projects almost always
like 10
had to be at Daddy Bezos' warehouse at 4:45am every day : )
i had a very calculated approach to all this
sacrificed sleep last summer so that id have an internship lined up this summer
took me til feb to get an offer tho lol
but yea anyway, if you are just looking for a concrete answer, learn React and use any public API to build out a frontend project
Chess.com has an API, theres a few solid Pokemon APIs, Weather API, IMDB API. bunch of stuff you can use to build fun projects
react + firebase that shit if you're lazy also
congrats on this man
ay thanks
10 lines of auth compared to 200-300 lines of passport.js auth
tbf, again depending on the time you have on your hands, i recommend doing most things the hard way your first time
i went from hard to easy without knowing
the auth on my apps have been pretty sus, but still was good to get an idea of the architecture
bc i never knew abt firebase but alr knew how to auth with passport months back
i dont even use passport- i legit would send user info as a regular network request, and then handle auth by hand in Express and Postgres
i was a huge noob last summer
AWS Cognito seems pretty OP
or OAuth
oh lord
if ur using react + nextjs, nextauth handles most of it
im too lazy to figure out next : (
plus ive spent way too long learning to build SPAs just to go back to SSR lol
my personal projects dont need next so im not going that way for now
rebuilding my personal site in Sapper currently, i very much enjoy it
if you havent tried it, i highly recommend Svelte its really good
i kinda like it better than React at this point, at least for smaller projects
When I tried svelte it almost felt like a lightweight react it was v enjoyable tho but it has its quirks to learn
the state system is kinda jank but tbf i havent taken the time to learn it very well
but its really just so much more pleasant for smaller stuff
Just posted in #resume feel free to post suggestions to improve upon!
Damn I respect this grind šš½ what did you learn to use React? Iām doing Angelas course on web dev (udemy) and then going to do a separate course on react after. I hope these courses arenāt a waste of time
personally im not a course guy
read the docs, watched a few youtube tutorials, and then started building projects
i know a lot of people love courses, i just find myself walking away without much knowledge of what i learned
I am more of a course guy like I tried to read the docs ig I am not used to it
but damn man I respect the grind you went through i wish I was more like you
lol i didnt do anything insane. truth is, if you find an area you enjoy working on projects on, you dont even notice the time youre putting
i get a similar satisfaction to video games and the alike tbh
I wanna get into web dev but it seems like there's just so many different tools/frameworks/lbraries to use
Like idek what oauth or express or any of that stuff is
yea there is
What would you guys recommend that I learn?
thing is, most people look at the vastness of tools as a bad thing, but its a good thing imo
most popular tech is probably React for Front End
defo a good thing, but as a noob I'm very overwhelmed lmao
theres a shit ton for Back End
cant really go wrong with Express for your backend framework, and React for your Front End framework
So what's the point of using express for backend instead of say just python with django or something
express is a bit easier(less decorators and a bit lighter than django)/its nicer to do front + back in the same language.
express is a micro framework while django is mcuh larger and ful fledged
Yeah and you can also add database work too like MySQL, Mongo or PostgresSQL
In that case I might learn django. I'm a lot more comfortable with python, and I've made some basic stuff with flask before
I'm starting to move away from backend stuff in JavaScript. While doing everything in one lang is nice, theres just better options out there than the wreck of a lang that is JS
im not sure if its too valuable esp with microservices being the trend now adays(Django)
if you wanna go the microframework route with Python, try out FastAPI. as far as i can tell it has all of the benefits of Flask, but is newer and nicer
fastapi + flask both great choices
what's a microframework and a microservice
imagine instead of using 1 giant app in django
also if fastapi does everything flask does, why would I use both?
u have several smaller component apis
i meant one instead of the other
use either
ohh gotcha
youre referring to a microservice right
yea
imagine if it breaks
just split up ur services
as for a microframework, my interpretation is that its just a collection of routes for an API, where as something like Django/SpringBoot/Rails has an entire architecture buit into it
i feel like with vue/angular/react + api on the backend, django is a little too heavy
i mean it all depends on use case really
like back when you'd serve static pages + jquery it was solid
tru
depends on the project/what u want to do
as a general rule id say thats a bad thing to go by, but for personal projects, i think anything other than a microframework for backend is overkill
honestly react is overkill too but its worth learning
So is the benefit of a microframework over something like django, that it's faster and lighter?
That makes a lot of sense
more control but once the project gets more complex it is nice to have some stuff built in
yea
quicker set up
you could have a crud api up and running in like 20 minutes in Express or FastAPI
like one of my internships some devs essentially built their own version of activerecord on top of our db in flask, where if we were just using rails we wouldn't have to lol
i have a hard time gauging the demand for Rails currently
i feel like its worth learning but its just kinda left out of the convo as of recent
Thanks a ton guys. I feel a bit less confused about things now!
Seems like Python kinda took it over tbh
yeah idk definitely start with fundamentals of web dev(rest, mvc, etc) then go to express/fastapi/flask or something heavier django/rails if u want
mvc is kinda eh
i feel like mvc is just intuitive
like every big framework markets it as this crazy new way of thinking, but its just a pretty sensible architecture
i mean yea u have ur restful routes going to ur controller interacting with ur model/activerecord/db
but i feel like when i first started i didnt understand that part but once. i learned that it was hella easy lol
with a rest approach, the frontend framework serves as the view, right?
and even if your projects get more complex like if u add an extra abstraction api between ur controller and model, you'll still understand the overall structure
wondering what other kind of project's could one build instead of web or mobile? Like whats a decent os or low level project that's resume worthy
props to people who are into systems
im taking intro to systems rn
and learning C for the first time is just annoying
let alone all the actual systems concepts outside of C
systems is fun imo. it can take a while to get used to it
fr just a learning curve
But bro thereās so much
yea unless you specialize in it i don't think its worth it
Bunch of prerequisites that actually matter
ong lemme just npx create react app n be done w it
yeahh systems have a lot of pre-reqs
npm is so annoying imo
lmaoooon
Wix
its kinda weird how devs are cool with letting people do the hard work, up to a certain extent
i program in html
java applets
nobody out here complaining that React is too easy to use, but then wont do wordpress bc its all already done for you
probably the money
Iām not a web dev guy so Iāll take what I can get
Like I thought it was all about the product
actually i don't think so, your view would just be the json data
i am genuinely curious like how is there still demand for web dev?
because everything is web dev lol
emerging tech, lots of support
everything is moving to web
Every product need support on web
how many desktop apps do you have
its just the best interface
react native
i have a browser and then lik 2 desktop apps
but shouldn't be there be more demand for mobile cause there is more demand for apps?
even something like desktop apps use web dev principles like electrode
mobile is web dev lol
ahhhh
same principles
that explains it
theres not more demand for apps
web reaches everybody, mobile only reaches haf the ppl
u would build a backend api and use whatever react native/native/etc to build a mobile interface
or mobile web
pwas
eh native mobile is still pretty much the best option
yeah but ur still doing the same on the back/front end more or less
yea architecture wise, its the same concepts
actual details on the user-facing portion prob differ
yea
like when front end state management came out it kinda changed the game, but it was still web development
my biggest pet peeve is when people say frontend is not for them because its just design
like
like web dev doesn't just mean wordpress sites lol, it's just a way to interact with data and services
yeee
design is like 10% of the frontend work on my projects
i do full stack except i dont do css cause i hate it
in my last interview for a frontend co op, the guy told me he has written like 10 lines of css in the past 5 years
frontend is much more complex that then, storing and changing data thats being passed through constantly
yep
and most people tend to keep the backend cleaner/more straightfoward
so the front gets fuckeddd lol
What do u use instead of css. ?
i have designers build out the css
There's ui libraries
yeah
oh that too
component libraries built by people whos job is UI, not frontend dev
ik not all ui/ux people can do css, but it should be mandatory lol
Fr making a mockup and then converting it into a site is a whole different game
front end like 10 yrs ago was easier but its way harder nowadays
istg i thought front end was more like playing around with html and back end was doing the heavy lifting like using java spring and stuff like that
it can be
^
like im sure this wwebsite doesn't have much on the front end: https://www.basketball-reference.com/
but like now that the browser and js is more powerful, its easier to do stuff on the frontend so that users have an experience more akin to a desktop app than a website
but if u go to facebook and install react dev tools it'll show how complex it can be
when you check react dev tools but the website doesnt have source maps š
rip
its a meme
i heard the exact opposite lmaooo i heard people love angular a lottt
I'm mainly a react web dev I havnt tried angular yet but still lol seems like jokes
its popular at an enterprise level, but solo devs shit on it for the memes and react is better
is react vs angular becoming the new emacs vs vim (emacs is far superior lol)
i use the vim keybinds in VSCode, but i really dislike terminal editors
emacs has a gui editor
intellij has some nice features, but yeah vscode kinda the king
Frontend is harder than backend
It changes everyday
And it's the thing bootcamps teach
bootcamps can churn out coders but it's questionable how many are good coders
that's what interviews are for ig
but for top tech companies who use leetcode
can we really say that leetcode does a good job at screening good coders?
I'd say it does a good job of eliminating bad coders
obviously some good coders are also lost there but it's much better economically for the company to prioritize not hiring someone who can't code vs making sure they hire every person who can
You can do so much with an emacs gui I mean you can program your gui to make it do whatever you want and automate whatever you want too (you could need to know lisp but itās not too hard if youāve worked with C)
thats what vscode is lol
leetcode as a metric is kinda broken, because a lot of people end up rotely memorizing solutions to algo-related problems
but thats also why leetcode is only used as one factor
not all or nothing
when i become an interviewer im gonna make my candidates do push ups
how many
just combine leetcode and pushups
do like 5 push ups for each missed edge case or failed test case
"what you lack in leetcode strength you must make up in physical strength"
company gets cancelled for body shaming and discrimination against unfit people
candidates will be able to choose between an LC medium or lasting three rounds against george foreman
i think i can fight a portable grill
is the offer for nutrien for 34 weeks? š®
I knew a lot of Canadian internships are long, but not that long
nah its for 34 hours
noep probably 34 minutes
How do u guys do bulletpoints on things like workday?
Like rn what I do is just put each bullet point on a new line
Also do you guys put projects in the work experience section of job apps?

Can anyone share the SDE intern interview experience of snowflake?
F
i did for only 1, went empty handed last summer & wanted to leverage it as experience
any jobs just released?
Anyone do Pelotonās OA? Wondering what to brush up on
Thoughts on putting projects above experience on resume?

Dont have any related SWE experience š

Has anyone given the first technical interview for Wayfair, the recruiter told me I would be solving a small business problem with an engineer in this interview
I really don't know what to expect xD
Lol sure
Itās only 2 days and youāre letting him know in advance so itās good
oh ok, I didn't know if it was acceptable or not lol
Ye donāt be afraid to ask for that stuff
thanks bro
No worries man
what technical problems did you guys get on amazon's sde intern final interview?
if u took recently
Spoken like a true lee215 fan
a really easy BFS question
like they might as well have just told me to traverse a tree level-order
mine was system design with concurrency using hashtable
my interviewer thought I was interviewing for SDE-2 for 45 minutes
then I told him bro I am just a junior interviewing for internship
then he was like ok no problem keep attempting to solve this... and then proceeded to grill me for an additional 30 minutes
so, Amazon interviews are rng as well
I got a system design ques as well
Whoever put the laughing emoji on my sad experience with Amazon, I hope your next code compile gives you a seg fault that you cannot debug even with gdb, bitch
did u get offer?
I did not, the stuff he was asking isn't even in my degree plan
I am very happy with the offer I signed, very content actually, looking forward to this summer
always raising the hiring bar
Oof I got this exact question for another company and told the guy I hadn't taken OS yet
He explained to me what a lock was and I BSd what was the equivalent of a spin lock and said f it
Itās a good feeling to accept an offer after a bunch of rejects

can we please add this in #suggestions

Tfw I didn't get addepar OA

a company just moved me to the final round which is apparently a "culture and value add" interview
what does that mean
just behavioral? am i supposed to study something
Ask your recruiter lol
Ye best person to ask
idk why im always scared of asking them
They want you to succeed so ask them any other questions you got too
Theyāre a huge resource
okay, thank you! i'll reach out right now
They literally make money if they hire you, or something like that haha
oh fr
Yeah thatās why like theyāre always on your side
Ask them anything and everything and theyāll be able to answer what they can
Nice! Thanks for the motivation dude
Do recruiters get paid for more people they recruit
i believe they have some bonus structure based on the number of people they can get to sign
Has anyone heard back from Unqork final round?
No, it doesnāt matter as long as you have at least one semester remaining after the program (which you do)
So it doesnāt effect anything
Had that for my Citadel OA
also for google summer of code does anyone who if there is an OA? Also how do they go about selecting candidates?
Would also like to hear anyones experience with this if they done it
But definitely failed
no OA
u write a proposal + do a pull request (highly recommended)
some of them have programming competency tests u gotta do
Thank you
why doesnt the addepar OA work
i cant get in
"Psst! Something seems to have gone wrong here. Please contact the recruiting team (by replying to the Test invitation email) to check the Account/Test status."

^
I wish my link was broken so I didnāt get destroyed by 2 DP problems

Amazon is busy tweeting anti-union shit, they'll get back to you soon my dude
that amazon news twitter account feels like satire
Oh yeah Amazon News is whack
But what I was referring to was the fact that they seem to have made a lot of bot accounts and made them tweet anti-union stuff lol
just be prepared they sent me the confirmation 1 day before it was scheduled
so it will be scheduled on the very first day
