Do companies lowball the return offer to their interns (because I think at the time they give return offer, most people don’t have any other full time offers to use as leverage) or would it be better than new grad offers (like for those who didn’t work as interns for that company)?

some companies give return interns more cuz they already know ur good and you already know your tech stack/codebase. I believe FB gives big bonuses and few others at least

You can also always negotiate, saying that bc you have prev exp at the company, you're worth more than some rando new grad

Since your onboarding is a lot shorter and you can start pushing out quality code like day 1

If I get a return offer I feel like they’re just setting me up to renege, bc I’d obviously try and interview for new grad roles but the deadline to accept return offer is gonna be before that new grad process starts

It doesn’t but I always try to keep good relationships with my teammates. Ultimately they could end up somewhere you want to be and can always be a source of leverage and ofc a friend

For example one of my past teammates have been interviewing for full time. I got pretty bored so I helped interview him a bunch before his actually interviews

He signed his Google offer today

So it does go a long way
