Very indicative when a lot of data across a variety of sources show the same Pokemon within the top 20 mark would probably what you'd consider "metagame" and then by extension the pokemon surrounding it
So that's pretty much how you would be able to tell
The matchup interaction aspect comes when you want to logically progress the metagame and figure out appropriate metacalls and teambuilding
Walking back to Miraidon and getting Synergy trapped the easiest example of teambuilding would be to use those aforementioned Future Paradox mons but benefits of E-Terrain go beyond that to improve matchups of certain cores a-la Farig/BM Ursaluna
I only figured it out a while later after running Farig/Blursaluna a while later and so did only a few other people
