basically, the goal for status-using mons is to make sure they can actually do the things they want to do. If you die too quickly, or you get hit with taunt, you might die too fast

Or a quick mon like Vivillon to not get killed before doing anything

Effort Values

Effort Values (EVs) are points that a Pokémon gains when earning EXP from a wild Pokémon battle.

The wild Pokémon defeated or caught will determine how many and in which stat those EVs are gained. An online Pokédex like Serebii.net is useful for finding this information.

Effect at Level 50

At Level 50, the first 4 EVs in a stat will grant +1 point to that stat, and every subsequent +1 stat point increase will require 8 EVs in that stat.

Effect at Level 100

At Level 100, every 4 EVs in a stat will grant +1 to that stat.

• Maximum total: 510
• Maximum in one stat: 252

Checking EVs

When looking at a Pokémon's summary, press X on the stats page to see EVs. Any EV that is maxed out will have sparkles around the stat name. When the Pokémon is fully trained, the previously orange shape will turn a light mint color.
