For neogeo why doesn't it save the settings for the bios I put. It goes back to Europe/ Arcade. On the pocket it actually saves? Put it to Japan Arcade and it loads like that every time. Maybe I did something.. I put the basic pack in.
Does anyone know where I can get or build CPS2 rom hacks? There are several great hacks (eg Darkstalkers - Boss mode) that don't seem to be in Mister.
@queen phoenix in the options for update all there’s one for “arcade offset” that you want to turn on, it’ll grab all the hacks
arcade offset needs to update the Alpha 3 Mix hack they got, there's a few newer revisions

you can add your own rom, and make a .mra for it with a little tweaking
you've basically just gotta change the hash in the mra to match the rom you're using
we did it for Vsav AE before it got added into offset

friend of mine mentioned something he saw about being able to assign specific USB ports to p1 and p2. Is that something that exists now?
yeah its an ini setting that was recently added
also the option to disable turbofire shortcuts was added to ini recently. both great additions
that will definitely be much simpler for running games at locals

Challenge with MK, MKII, NBA Jam is the requirement of a separate daughter board PCB to process audio on the original Midway Arcade PCB’s. JT and team are exploring solutions. It’s a bit messy if you dive into the weeds here.
Remains to be seen if Mister will require a separate PCB OR JT team will be able to implement within the FPGA.

It’s not a very good street fighter but it’s a very cool fighting game
The Arcade version is a mess and just fun for novelty. The home versions where based on SSF2 but lack the visual quality of the arcade original sadly.

The online scene that’s developed for it over the past couple years has done a lot to rehab the arcade sftm, it’s legit interesting

there was dude who got kicked out of the scene for using a macro that just mashed repeated shoryukens when he held it down, and it took a while for anyone to notice bc thats just how you play that game normally

I hope everyone is well. Has anyone compared the sound from games on the CPS2 core to the Saturn ports? I noticed last night that my Saturn puts out far superior audio quality for Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter. The Saturn's sound was one of the first things that really impressed me when I recently got my Saturn and it sounded great across games. Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter is probably one of if not the best sounding games I've heard on Saturn and from this era in general. Everything is of a much higher quality; there is more separation and distinction between sounds and between voices and BGM, a wider stereo field with amazing panning between left and right speakers, and the sound quality across the spectrum is better (high, mid and low end). The spatial sound sounds like what QSound is meant to be.
I use a Sony Trinitron 21x5U, RGB lead from Retro Gamine Cables for my Japanese MK1 Saturn, running the game from a Satiator. And I'm using Retro Computer Shack's RGB lead with my MiSTer, which puts out a fantastic image, it looks as good as my Saturn going from one to the other.
I asked a friend last night and he told me that CPS2 had a QSound module that could be used to get stereo and that the Jamma edge is mono, and that this may be why I noticed the difference. But it sounds to me like the game is running in stereo on MiSTer. So, might it just be that the Saturn has superior sound output? Or, could it be due to the lead I am using for my MiSTer?

QSound "widens" the range of stereo sound, and so is best used with a pair of stereo speaker...

if you're just using a 3.5mm plug the analog out is not the greatest and you should consider getting a cheap dac and comparing again

But it was just brought to my attention, does the CPSII core actually support QSound? If not, there might not be much point in me getting the converter.
If you are as concerned about audio quality as your comments imply it’s going to be worth throwing $10 or whatever at a cheap DAC. It will improve your sound across all cores on mister. I’m not positive if it supports Q sound, but that’s largely just marketing mumbo jumbo for “we stuck stereo audio on our boards”

Testing new Patreon beta of CPS 1.5 core by Jotego for Mister (Cadillacs and Dinousaurs, Punisher, Warriors of Fate and Saturday Night Slam Masters). Still some sound glitches and no dipswitches but looks really good and about to be finished.

Mortal Kombat is part of two boards, the Y unit and the T unit. The T unit also has MKII, NBA Jam, NBA Jam Tournament Edition and the Judge Dredd prototype. It's a more complex board

Yeah I’ve heard Mortal Kombat’s in the pipeline since 2020 from Jotego. Frankly it’s better that someone else is working on it. When Jotego finishes CPS 3 he’d probably focus on PGM anyways
PGM into the MKs+NBA jam is pretty exciting to have on the horizon though, I won’t lie
Jotego could also go back to the Sega Scaler games or the System 18. Lots of possibilities there. What I’m getting at is that he’s def not prioritizing MK so let someone else do it imo

sounds like NGP work stopped in December when the old CPU guy left, his current plan is to have the new person finish the Konami arcade cpu and then focus in entirely on neo geo pocket to get that wrapped up. Fingers crossed

Was wondering if i should get a dac, as i indeed mosty play via vga and headphone jack..but i could also go toslink from ioboard to amp right? In that scenario dac doesn’t have added value
if an amp is taking toslink, it has a dac built into it
I guess the train of tought to still go dac would be if the analogue boeard also had a poor toslink. But assuming that is not the case
toslink is digital. It works or it doesn't. There is no quality loss possible if it works at all.
True, having said that i am a bit surprised the analogue out board has a relatively poor audio jack option. And i have had case where using hdmi cables which worked great on x360, had issue with ps3. Which in theory is also digital! It seems my (retro, late nineties) amp unfortunately doesn’t have a toslink port, so will most likely order something similar to the dac which was suggested earlier.

You have an Analog I/O? It has miniTOS through the 3.5mm jack

They are cheap on amazon, dont bother with gold connectors its all optical/light based

@plush oak tested it and it appears to work, but might freeze at points.
using a different memory manager is a good recommendation there. some games freeze with certain ones so it might well be the case there too

What a nostalgic trip to experience this again on AO486
Unfortunately, the main issue for this game would be the lack of an FPU on ao486, as pointed in the Computer Cores channel's findings. Might be also some other things that help in crashing it, but 10-15 mins you can enjoy it with Quickware Q87 FPU emulator
For sure not a solution, maybe some other emulators might help, though I am skeptic about it. Will do some more tests for fun later

Fightcade is nice, it's no replacement for OG hardware or anything close to what Mister can provide. (if it's possible)

demand for CPS3 has a hell of a lot value on the tournament scene, esp once available through FPGA.
That said I also wanted pgm more for the cave shooters but surpassing cps3 demands wasn’t happening

JT has has folks focused on multiple projects, although I prefer CPS3 over PGM, required effort for both will probably see PGM released sooner despite it starting later

you can still use SCSI CDROm with this. It'll be external of course. Most folks are using SCSI2SD adapters with a Dark Soft SuperBios Cart

Looking forward to CPS3 Core for sure, hardware is already breaking $1500+ per PCB now. I'm fortunate to have three lol. FPGA will solve a lot of that worry in addition to having schematics to repair and replace parts on the PCB one day.

I have a silly question - next Friday MiSTer FGPA machines are being used for a Street Fighter Alpha 2 tournament here and I have been messing with mine and noticed that only the Euro version of the game is there. Unfortunately Evil Ryu was added to the USA version... is there anyway to flip over to the USA version or find an MRA file for it? I know it sounds like a dumb question... just wanted to make sure.
If you’re using update_all check Alternatives folder. Find “Street Fighter Alpha 2” folder. All alt mra’s are available there.
The other thing I recommend is editing your .MRA to remove “core credits” from the button mapping, it’s at the very bottom. This will remove the chance for unintentional pauses

I haven't heard anything on the official forums in two years, so I gotta ask: do people think Killer Instinct is possible on MiSTer?
Possible? Sure. It’s not the hardware that’s the limitation, it’s the complexity of analyzing and reverse engineering the chipsets to work on MiSTer. Which is very time intensive and requires a highly specialized set of skills to do if those chips haven’t already been ported.
Isn't the "Ultra64" hardware in that more advanced than N64? That seems like a hurdle, if so

I thought so too until I looked it up. For a layman the answer is "it's complicated" because on paper the N64 hardware is much more powerful. You can compare the two with this chart: https://www.cpushack.com/MIPSCPU.html
The N64 uses the R4300i and runs at 93.75 MHz with 4.6 million transistors, while Midway's KI hardware is a R4600 running at 50 MHz and 1.9 million transistors (https://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=614).

Seems pretty daunting either way. Maybe the smaller size is due to them not having the 3d polygonal portions in there? I recall 3d in KI2, but not 1. Memory speed requirements are probably massive for the arcade hardware either way though
Ohhh there was 3D in KI2? I don’t think I played the arcade sequel.
Killer Instinct used some basic 3D for a handful of stages in the arcade version of 1. Can’t recall if it was the same for 2.
Backgrounds in KI were a glorified video file where it just seeked to a position that matched where you were standing in the stage.
Except for the rooftops which was a simple 3D structure, which is why the camera could actually zoom around on it.
It’s been so long since I played the arcade versions. I remember really enjoying them though. That video background was seriously impressive at the time, even when knowing it was a video.
It was an incredibly clever way to look impressive.

I’ve been trying to create some hacks for some training mode for cps2 titles and I think I bit more than I could chew

the real question is why do you want a training mode for HSF2
Just to make labbing like picking up a different character for example easier instead of having to go through the ladder or turning on another controller to fight a 2p dummy and having to restart that over and over. Me especially, I like to pick apart characters I play down to a science, so it helps someone like me alot.

What’s different between those two
HSF2 is the one where you can pick what version of SF2 your character is from
and it has some extremely busted chars that kinda fuck up the game
most namely CE Bison and WW Guile
Super Turbo is the one people actually play competitively

I have to check out the properties of ww guile’s booms and range of his flash kick and see how busted it is. I actually do like playing as cps1 guile. Hyper fighting is where I messed around with him the most.
It’s hard for me to choose one forever. Because part of me likes being able to have a meter to spend for super but I also like doing mad damage with the old bnb combos

haven't played ST in a long time but I mained Ryu and Blanka. Blanka was pretty fun, but I always felt like I had a hard time really getting in on some characters, even with the blanka balls. His throw is quite good though, especially if you use something like the hop to get in throw range
yeah Blanka Ball not having invul holds him back a bit
upball is active on F1 but will still lose to shoryus and stuff
feels very mid tier, but like most characters in ST, there's those godlike players out there that make them work even in some of the awful matchups
Bad matchups are really interesting to watch play out on sf2
unless it's claw vs anyone lol then you know how it's gonna go

You seem well versed in sf2 shtuff. So lemme ask you this. When it can to being able to cancel your super from normals. Did capcom intend for players to be able to use things like a renda cancel to confirm into super or was that players just messing around with what you could do in the engine ?

I forget the exact specifics, i think its that you can't buffer super inputs during hitstop

I can sort of do his jab renda cancel every now and then. It seemed like turbo hd remix made it a little easier to link into supers but I’ve seen someone go in with a jump heavy and do his crouching strong into super. But now that you mention the hit stop thing, I’ve been going at wrong. So the game won’t accept any inputs during the brief hitstop? So you’re supposed to do your input after hitstop ?

Not that long once I sat down to specifically learn them

So the easiest easiest one with him is just throw into the corner, then jump straight up and do LP MP HP, land repeat
To set it up I usually do the launcher version though
medium punch for the launcher ?
Launch with sMp then on the way up LP LK MP MK HP (slight pause) HP again as you start to fall, then HP right at normal jump height
Then you land into the rep
You may find doing a 5 hit string easier than the LP MP HP
So LP LK MP MK HP
his double jump doesnt factor into this ?
You can add in double jumps once you get more comfortable
There’s a lot of variations you can use to manipulate height and spacing once you get a feel for it
Use Ryu or Cyke as your test dummy for it

Yeah she can do air combo into super then DHC into sent super and he gets a combo after it, for like 80%+ and builds back a bunch of bar
And his assist is super good for helping her get a hit

It's definitely something to see a direct sequel jump the ridiculous advancement of the '90s. MvC1 was on CPS2, which was essentially a more standardized CPS1 (~1988) with bigger ROM sizes and Q-Sound, while MvC2 was on Dreamcast silicon.
If I was old enough at the time that game definitely would’ve helped sell a Dreamcast to me along with sf3

I was never a big MK guy beyond playing MK Trilogy on the shiny new N64 that I got for Christmas, but I'll say that the Williams/Midway hardware of that era was weird. I've found it remarkably hard to say anything definitive about it without digging into MAME code. Some games were ported between hardware generations, for example.

Oh yeah you know there’s umk3 on gameboy color ? It’s not complete and it’s been in the works for a good while now but there’s a playable build of it and it’s pretty nice, waaaaaaaaaaay better than the official bad mk ports on the gameboy. So I hope that gets finished too

yeah, so few but such strong titles it kinda makes up for it. I've definitely put thousands of hours into 3s and at least hundreds into Jojo. And maybe a handful into SF3 and Second Impact, and I've tried Red Earth once lol
I never got the love for SFA3. Would be nice to play it again to see if it clicks with me now.
I feel like a solid chunk of the appeal of SFA3 was the announcer being a boss. Maybe my memory's screwed, but I could swear even when the CPS2 version goes into its legal warning the voice-over is like "THIS IS STREET FIGHTER ALPHA THREE".

I think q is cool but he’s tricky for me
3rd strike is really fun once you get into it, I guess if I had to try to sum it up, the pace of fighting feels good, and parrying is a wonderful mechanic that takes a while to master, but opens up a lot of situations where normally you'd be force to just block stuff. It can completely change how you approach wake up and offense in general. Plus, a lot of the cast is quite fun to play
when I was playing a lot, I think I could at least do the basics with every character though I was quite terrible with Sean and Twelve
I mained Urien, Q, Dudley, Ryu and Ken
though I'd also play Makoto, Alex, Akuma, Hugo, Necro, Oro, Remy and the twins pretty frequently just because they all could be fun in certain matchups (and horrible in others lol). I guess I also didn't play a lot of Elena or Ibuki, and I almost never picked Chun just because I found it a bit too boring
respect for playing Q, we suffer but when we do win it's hype as shit

also Remy can be fun, I like that he has more movement options than Guile
I can parry a little but more of the time I’m just blocking. I’ve only beaten the game like twice so I have barely any time in it compared to sfa,2 and 4. I only had a chance to play it relatively recently because the 30th anniversary game. I’m sure if I had access to it sooner I would’ve gave it a go. Because I did know of it and seen it, liked the general look of it. Never played against anybody online in that game, yet 😂. The cast of 3 looks very weird but cool. I was never good at the Kara stuff so I just always skipped stuff like that. I Kara the Kara.
Kara throwing in 3s is pretty lenient it’s really not bad
sf3 has too many weird and bad mechanics for me to really like it all that much
the button priority system is wack and I can't believe they brought it back for sfv, where, surprise, everyone hated it

To each their own. 3s was definitely the first fighting game I got proficient at, so the flaws kinda get smoothed over for me. Though, I was probably at like mid level as far as skill goes, on the occasion I fought really good players, the high level shenanigans definitely would get frustrating. Being crushed by Chun, Yun and Makoto is tolerable only so many times before you start to hate your character choice lol
Sf4 was fun for a while when I switched to that, though, I never really got good at doing FADC stuff, my input skills are not that good. Doing it consistently was tough
Never really clicked with 5, I enjoyed playing Mika in season 1, played Urien in season 2 and then kinda just fell off. Been enjoying 6 a lot though

Why is modern controls even legal for sf6 at evo. If you used macros on whatever control you used, people would consider it cheating. They wouldn’t even allow you to play if they knew ahead of time you were going to be using something like that. But since capcom made the game and they themselves allow for one button specials it’s somehow magically okay against people who are doing it the way your supposed to be doing it ?
Maybe it's balanced enough that no one cares if it's Modern or Classic?

There’s been quite a few people who have been vocal about it. I can’t say the percentage but they are there. And for every person who did speak, there’s also people who definitely don’t agree with it but have just remained silent about it maybe because they feel their opinion wouldn’t change anything anyway. If someone at evo now said something, it’s not like capcom would consider changes. Instant specials is something good for someone’s who’s 5 years old or somebody’s grandmother but in the hands of professional tournament players who are playing for title and money, it feels weird. Half of a fighting game is execution, if you struggle with dragon punch inputs, your choices are practice or pick a different type of character. This stuff isn’t even hard anyways especially with the newer games. Learning this stuff is supposed to be every fighting game players rite of passage, you do it once so that way you don’t have to think about it again. I can’t make my brain accept that modern controls are somehow fair in a tournament setting.
Here’s the meat of the issue. Buffering your specials in consideration of your movements Is a staple in games like this. Having access to an instant special or super breaks that dance for the most part. It’s just less work on a modern players hands, but that’s why it’s explicitly cheating. So even with the damage nerfs, it’s weird

Play more like a brick wall when the matchup calls for it, like gief/honda
there were several times i'd like mess up jumping a boom and get knocked down, and you'd j.HP at me instead of throwing more booms full screen
you're doing good with his command normals as like low crushes and to counter poke
you're not using s.MP or c.HP enough as AA tools when you dont have flash kick charged
you also didn't go for very many tick throws which he's really good at
because you can OS backfist/suplex after walking behind a boom for example
that all sounds juicy, what is that that grab you do as honda sometimes when you jump in or do your butt slam, is that a command grab? how do you escape that ?

yeah i need to do crossups moar. was a little nervous because you have very good timing on wakeups. but i think the attacking player can make it so they try to hit the start of the attacking frames as early as possible to interrupt it but i dunno

and each strength has a different swing trajectory
so there's insane movement options
hsien looks really hard to play at a high level
she is lol, there's some really brutal matchups
shes basically right in the middle of the tier list, but she has bad matchups against everyone above her, and good to okay matchups against everyone below her
so in a tournament... obviously you're likely to fight more high tier chars

thats the way i look at it too. he used alot of people against my guile. balrog, chun, ryu, honda, and gief. i dont have alot of experience fighting honda so that was nice. we had like 34 matches and i won like 4 i think. couldnt beat his chun before he had to go, she was too stronk.

The US Orochi Collection is garbage honestly, so I didnt include that. The Japanese KOF collections have 95-2001 or 2 I want to say. I think 94/98/2K2 original Neo Geo versions are on the 94 Rebout/KOF98UM/KOF2K2UM releases, but the Neo Geo versions on those may not have arranged music options
A friend of mine a while back did some magnifying glass analysis on one of the Fatal Fury collections and found maybe a pinch of background compression in a stage. But its pretty minor.
Keep in mind its a list for casuals too, who would just want a superior Neo Geo CD like experience with arranged music and no load times. There are probably granular gameplay differences that would bother professional players.
I remember Xi and Tenka being 480i and also having no built in 480p for non jp releases

Allright, so I changed the XI entry to the Japanese version. Atomiswave ports obv would be best in 480p, not 240p

AW XI is worse even, since it has the default blury filter over the character sprites

That way and also it has noticible faster loading times when played from hdd/ssd

This is why I always train things I know I will definitely use or feel is viable. I can’t hold hidden practices that I could never use in battle 😂. I stay away from highly technical things. I just try to maximize my damage 💪🏼😼

if one can do guile jumping fierce into standing heavy punch into super, they can do anything
dere we go progress. im able to hit his crouching strong into super with like a 95% success rate. while p2 side is like 30 lol so yeah i got to work on that part. i always do better on the left side with charge characters. but the reverse with motion charcters. so i play way better with someone like ryu on the right side

Oh my gawd. I forgot I had posted a video waaaaay back. Well 4 years ago. When ultra sf2 came out on the switch and I had started my jobber streaming and video posting, I had did a guile combo video. Usf2 is interesting because you can cancel into your super from special moves like the later games which is neat and lord knows what else they changed under the hood in that game. The video is a little shoddy because I literally had to capture the switch with my phone camera so no pc or capture card back then. Did it all on a switch pro controller as well. No stick back then.
There’s a really cool combo if you don’t want to sift through the crap montage, at the very end. Guile’s sonic boom into standing heavy into super.
I wonder if I could pull that combo off in normal ssf2t. Because they definitely made doing supers way easier in usf2 compared to the original.

as far as the Alpha games go, Alpha 2 is my cutoff but having Upper at hand is another great casual masher to have.
So this threads seems as good a place as any to ask. IF you want to play older kof (95 and 96 to be exact) what would be best way? Cuz spoiled as we are with various options there are always down sides: neo geo - no arranged soundtrack neo geo cd - loading ps1/saturn.... i am actually thinking that for 95 saturn might be the best but i think it had a weird bug where the musci was mono......and possibly no arranged music? ps1 95 is (surprisingly ?) pretty good but worse loading than even ngcd.... ps2. Probably the best i found so far, BUT the game text is fuly japanaes, i wanna be able to read them cheesy win quotes :S ....... neo geo cd software emulate removed nearly all loading.....but ugh software emulation and lag...well we are in the mister topic not gonna go deeper there.......curious if there are options i left out. i also have a collection on ps4, i should give that one another go to see if i have any bitching on that version 😛
Arrange soundtracks are interesting but I usually stick to the MVS/AES NeoGeo versions when playing this stuff, original and best imho! FYI I have used MAME for CD stuff before support was added to MiSTer and it’s really solid and responsive, a great option if you want the arranged OST with minimal loading.
I really fell in love with these ast’s, so i am starting to feel i should sacrifice the fpga side of it and just do ngc emulation. Ps4 orochi collection is a ps2 port where someone tought it a good idea to map ps2 start to the touch pad. With some tinkering i should be able to have this working on my retrobit pad and brooks convertor combo, but was unable to find the shortcut. Leaving it unplayable atm.
Bear in mind you do have 4x loading speed on the FPGA core working with the vast majority of games, MAME is only worth using over it if you really need the slightly shorted load times.
Oh yeah tried it! It is better then normal loading for sure. But still very much there. So it comes down to my q, is there an option that ticks off all of my ‘demands’ and i guess the anwer is no so ‘accept that which you cannot change or change what you cannot accept’ PS4 also doesn’t have aranged music i think…sigh

To be fair, arranged music for SNK games is extremely good generally speaking. Their ASTs were a high bar in the 90s and I enjoyed them greatly.
I think the later kof's/fighters on NGCD indeed have gameplay changes (animation cut/smaller sprites) however for 95 i am fairly sure this IS NOT the case, see this nice comparisson vid: https://youtu.be/iWp_jXZK3bQb Also i am playing sp mostly, for competition i fully agree the standard needs to be followed. Anyways. I am even frustrating myself now as...... ok, software emulation of the ngcd version has: blood, english text, no loading (well ngl it is there but we are talking fractions of a second!) BUT the next hurdle in my road........where on mister i can enable blood in one go (for curious people, start demo mode, wait for high scores to appear, the on the second controller press and hold B+C, and on the first controller press A+D) . On the emulator it is eluding me.......i have even been investingating just coding a cheat for it in retroarch now......facepalm
I tend to stan for (some of, not all) the PS2 Neo Geo collections for those who want a better experience playing the games with the ASTs
yeah ps2 is def nice, BUT (see also my earlier post) afaik, the are fully japanes in text. meaning i cannot read win quoutes and (should i ever get that far) end of game content etc

In JP over summer kids often have to write a report of some kind. This kid wrote "My Summer with Ryu" and did a report on SF6. He talks about the game, introduces eSports, and tracks his rank points. Made it to diamond. Really nice report, love the drawings!

welp i was able to figure about my blood issue on emu. RA defaulted button assignment meant double inputs. With clean inputs getting the cheat to work was no problem. And i now have a save state meaning i can just play the game uncensored when i want......only took me day 😭 . Oh and i guess there is also an orochi collection on wii, when ever i have the energy to mod that i can add that to my comparisson i guess 🙂

All i can say is that after playing ngcd kof95/96 on mister (via crt vga monitor) and then playing orochi collection on ps2 (via BnO mx4000 i think...?) was not annoying to my eyes. That was the jap version of orochi thought, maybe that is 240p? might put both on them on at the same time, curious now.

Tried some other games from the list ‘fist of the north star’ and kof2k2 tougeki especially the latter i enjoyed. Used to the x360 and pc port. Updated backgrounds and that music!
I could never do the basketball combos in fist of the North Star, but it's still pretty fun

It’s always nice to see zangief taking top places in tournaments. Zangief destroyed JP. I really like the drive gauge of sf6. JP isn’t so bad, just spoiled. Reminds me of bison in alpha. Bison was originally annoying and then in alpha they gave him a projectile and a teleport. JP is the new alpha bison.
Also I miss bison having bells in his theme. His sf2 cps1 version was always the best

When thrown your character rotates and pushing any button will make them stop.
If you manage to stop the animation on their feet, they'll land safely.

Anyone randomly get hit with the introspective bug where you realize you've taken the MiSTer for granted? Yeah, we got some cool new cores, but when I heard CPS2 was pretty much ready to go, that was like tye cherry on the top. I was gonna get one anyway for Genesis, PC Engine and NES anyway.
CPS2 + NeoGeo is what got me into MiSTer
heh, I was basically in it for all of that. Didn't have a flash cart for my genesis, don't have a pc engine, my nes is stock, it fit well for all of those. Neo Geo and various arcade stuff like CPS 1 and 2 were absolutely what pushed me over the edge
I forgot about wanting NeoGeo too. SamSho V Special and KoF in particular were games I wanted to play without input delay badly.
I bought a Pioneer LaserActive that came with a Genesis PAC and was later planning to get the PC Engine PAC. Sadly it needed to be recapped so I sold it and used the money to buy a MiSTer 🤣
Also, I had my trigger ready on an everdrive for the genesis.
lol yeah honestly if you have a full suped up console and flash cart you can easily flip it for a chunk of building your MiSTer half the time
at this point I have flash carts and ODEs for everything except genesis lol I just don't ever dig my genesis out to play stuff. But I have to be honest, it's just so much more convenient to just plug in a controller and flip on the MiSTer instead of hooking everything up to my 5x pro
I'm half glad I didnt invest in an everdrive for anything yet but I recognize I missed out on that boat unless I come across a good deal on one of the consoles I wanted.
the first one I bought was an n64 everdrive, mainly because at the time (2014?) I was like "well emulation is nowhere near perfect, this way I can at least play all the games I can't afford"

I dunno. Cause I tried myself the same exact thing and I found a road that lead to nowhere. No resource online. Asked a guy who did one of the mras for mister on the steps for what I would need to do, that was a couple months back and still no response. Cause there’s a couple training hacks that could be made for mister that aren’t there. But yeah, if you know then great please share but I hit the wall in my journey.

I setup a USB A/B switch to a nice USB 2.0 hub between MiSTer and my PC so its easier for me to use Fightcade and emulators now
