bc taoism is a folk practice from china so it is practiced in a specific way

There are definitely some aspects that align with some folk traditions where you keep them separate. You dont and cant incorporate it into anything else, because the culture and roots need to be honored and respected in the practice, which washes away if you try to incorporate with other practices

Hinduism is very deeply tied to indian culture among others so i would state to like see if you can find temples you can ask at as well. getting irl feedback is also very important if your planning to take part in a commonly appropriated practice.

im also 100% not saying what your reading is wrong by any means but you should very much look into a lot of sources and irl ones especially.

as i said im not hindu and these questions are mainly for you to reflect on yourself (ex: do you think you can properly honor hindu gods without converting to hinduism?) as well as ask others in the practice

No I absolutely agree with you. And Im glad you brought that up. Ive been to monasteries before to ask about their teachings, and having that be reminded to me definitely makes me want to find one and ask myself before attempting anything

The way that patronship works is that you and your deity have to have an established relationship that you agree on will last your entire lifetime.

Because that's what patronship is. It's not just you following them, it's them being a part of you and your craft for a life time. (and in some cases your next lives as well if you believe in that)

In my opinion, you cannot have an established patron based relationship until you have an established relationship with this entity and you have been working with them for a while. and this is due to the fact that not only do you not have experience with them, they don't have experience with you.

Unless you work with said deity imo its not something that will be defined as patronship until you do. it could be a goal that you and your deity work up towards. But that's not the way that you start a patron based relationship.

Okay okay gotchu. In this case, Ive always felt connected to Poseidon throughout my life, even before being Pagan or eclectic. Ive had some NDEs regarding water and been okay, and then during deployment in the navy, they did a "crossing the line" ritual to Neptune. Have always felt connected to the ocean and Poseidon and when I first wanted to start working with deities, he was my first thought but I didnt pursue it. And then recently it kinda all hit me in the face at once and I reached out to him

But my connection to him and all of his domains has felt like my whole life to me

But I will keep that in mind moving forward

I think it's very possible it's something that you could reach towards with him fairly quickly but in my opinion, you really should establish a solid connection before establishing patronship.

Just so that way, you know and he knows the way that you work together will be solid rather than assuming that it will based off of previous experiences, if that makes sense!

The concept of the fear of god being put into you by these deities is often billed off of the christian understanding of how deity worship acts. and is spouted in a very gatekeepy way.

Adding cinnamon chips, powder, oil or sticks to your spell bottles, jar, and bags for your intention OR to amplify the effects of the spell. Cinnamon is a known strengthener of any magical intention = it yields more powerful results.

Yeah Im actually doing an art project with Poseidon, I started it today. Its a diamond dotz of a sea turtle. I dedicated it to him when I started, and invited him to join me as I worked on it. When its finished, I intend to hang it on the wall over my altar for him

You can meditate and say epithets of your deity, you can do communication rituals like lighting a candle and being open to receiving from them, offerings (I need to get better at this), or even just thanking them or talking to them intentionally throughout the day.

I have a small glass disk with a shell imprint on one side and its got sea sand imbedded into the glass. I keep it on me because I feel it connects me to Poseidon and I sometimes sleep with it under my pillow. Every time I have so far, Ive had pretty vivid ocean-related dreams

Theres a lot you can do, you just have to have the intention behind it and be respectful. But were humans and we make mistakes, and they know that too

It was a weird calming sensation. Tbh I've never done anything like this before

One of the biggest pieces of communication I got from her was a tarot spread. I was trying to figure out who the deity was that was with me, and instead of like, a straightforward or obvious answer, I got a lot of things that pointed toward liminality and shadow work (which could have been Morrigan too) but when I thought about Hekate, I got a kinda "Yes its me" nudge

And simultaneously in that discovered she was wanting me to focus on healing my inner child

For example, Im in the same spot now with Kali as I was with Hekate, where Im feeling the pull towards her, and I feel energetic signs when Im doing research on her. But I have to journal that down and wait for other things to happen as well before I can be sure shes actually wanting me to devote to her

See if dreams come up, see if I get anything from tarot spreads when I try, things like that

And then I look back at my notes and find the patterns (or lack thereof)

honestly: i dont get gods reaching out to me often.

ive always had an interest in ||death|| and when i got into greek mythology when i was younger he was one that stood out to me in that aspect. then i reached out to him in the form of wanting to worship him and we established a relationship for a few years before i branched off into other gods.
After I started doing that he basically told me that he felt our time together was coming to a halt so i ended the worshiping relationship and focused on my other gods.
About 6 months later i noticed signs of his altar, or his symbolism popping up and decided to do a reading. Turns out it was him, wanting to reestablish the relationship. He had left to give me the opportunity to focus and hone my relationship with other gods but felt i was ready to come back to it all.

i feel like learning about a god doesnt equate interest in wanting to establish a relationship but it could be the grounds to start one. if you want to learn more, id say go for it , and if that interest turns into more (like wanting to honor them) work with that.

Advice needed:
So one thing Ive been struggling with is keeping up on offerings and devotional acts, prayers, mantras and stuff. I work with Hekate and Poseidon but Im still in the very early stages of a working relationship with them both (Hekate longer than Poseidon). I dont do my witchcraft practice regularly as much as its something Im mindful of every day, also because Im newish still and lacking organization and structure.

One thing thats been getting to me is wondering if Im like... failing or going to run them away by really lacking on my motivation or discipline to reach out even every other day. Like I put out sea water that I collected from the ocean to Poseidon in a stone bowl, but I havent changed it out in a bit because I forget and/or lack the motivation too.

I think maybe in part Im perceiving what I need to be doing on a more... devotional style relationship which is not really what it is or should be at this point, but Im also not sure

I'm only in my second week with my deity Brigid, I've learnt that it's important to build a relationship. I didn't have a cloth on my alter and felt an urge to get one, was choosing between a few and the same one was always on the floor or table, one I wasn't going to pick, just turned and said are you sure, a light pink in colour, like I said one I wouldn't choose. Now its on her alter. I talk to her daily, even while I'm working.

Hey guys, I have a question, so if anyone can answer from their own perspective on the subject, I'd appreciate it!

Some beliefs hold that we have one God and one Goddess (mainly in Wicca), and that they can also be separated into several “pieces” (something like that) that you can worship or work with a specific one, thus having "more than one deity" within one, if you understand me.

But not everyone believes or even think about that. So I wanted to know how people take this subject.

My question in an example: you believe in a specific deity from the Greek pantheon, but do you believe in all of them? And if you believe in one deity from the Greek pantheon and at the same time, a deity from another pantheon, wouldn't there be some conflict?

and to answer your question:

I'm an ominist meaning that I believe that all deities are real. This doesn't mean that I go out of my way to worship or work with or interact with every single deity (some are closed), but I believe that every deity has some truth to them.

And this is simply from the fact that there is no reason why two different groups of people couldn't have similar beliefs that create gods of similar natures. The sun is a universal concept: ofc there are billions of sun gods.

I do not however subscribe to wiccan ideas that they are all just the same god or goddess but individually their own deities that stem from different peoples beliefs.

To answer the other questions: in my opinion, if you go around picking and choosing which ones that you believe in while pushing off the rest of the deities from that pantheon, you are missing and kind of dismissing a very large part of that deities history

You could go out of your way to simply worship a god like loki and not do so for any other Norse god, but you it would be a bit awkward to say that you believe that loki exists without odin or hel because those two figures are very important to who loki is as a god.

You don't have to worship them but believe in their existence would be an entirely different thing, in my opinion.

Of course no one can force you to believe in them. but I would then ask yourself how much of your understanding of this deity are you stripping from yourself by not allowing belief in those that they are in a pantheon with.

and finally:
As somebody that works with multiple deities in the realm of ||death|| i find i have no conflicts.

All of them are their own interpretations of a very similar phenomenon that affects various people in various ways. And that brings about differences that come with how i interact with them.

I do some of both, depending on what I have time for. Sometimes in the moment, I feel the strong need to pray, so I just do a quick one. Sometimes when I'm out, there will be things that feel connected to them, so I do prayers there sometimes (ex. pray by the lake to poseidon) and sometimes I sit down with candles and such at their altars with them.

And sometimes it feels less like a prayer, and more like a wave hello, like a little acknowledgement

something I don’t really hear talked about a lot is giving your grief, anxiety, / overwhelming emotions up to your deities as an offering.

i think a lot of the times we come to them in times of need for support, but if the burden is too much to carry, i do think there is a beauty in giving it to them to transmute. since in a way, by giving these “negative” feelings up to your deities, you are making an energetic exchange that tells them that you entrusting them to guide you forward.

def something to try the next time you’re feeling super down! even if you’re not feeling super down, it can be a good practice in breaking through that “i can only give my deities good energy” type of beliefs (not rly the best way to explain that, but in essence, it’s a way to develop more depth and trust with ur team)

I'm having a hard time picking the deities to work with year round, I've got the pantheons I worship to have each their own season.

On an unrelated note Ra is seriously amazing! He always helps me when my computer gets funky. I have no idea how Ra became the tech support deity in my mind, but damn do I appreciate it!

I intend to do a reading on Mother Earth so see how she is doing. Would it be better to call to Mother Earth or Gaia seeing how in Greek mythology Gaia is known as the goddess of the earth?

Mother Earth is a whole separate being than Gaia. Gaia is simply the goddess of the earth. That’s how I see it anyway, am I wrong?

the concept of "Mother Earth" is a product of the "Mother of all" goddesses found in many religions, sort of an amalgamation and personification of the earth itself through both pop culture and in history. Sometimes mother earth refers to an existing goddess sometimes it doesnt! Neither are wrong.

Does anyone has any experience with hypnos? I have an on going diagnoses of narcolepsy (which is almost pretty sure) and its really frustrating and quiet literally ruining my daily life. So i was wondering if praying to the god of sleep would be helpful or not, since im asking against sleep

7 of Swords - this card is mostly about betrayal, manipulation and deception. I'm sure you can guess more than me on what it means to you. I would assume some kind of trauma you may need to heal from
Knight of Swords rx - the knight is a suggestion to take a different approach, instead of going into situations guns-blazing
3 of Cups rx - like the two above, generally stay away from toxic people and places. there is themes of feeling isolated and left out, and needing to overcome emotional stuff

As such he would probably fit with any of those, but I'm sure there's other dogs that fit that vibe

Myth literalism strikes again. The myths and stories of the gods started out as stories to entertain, convey moral lesson, or explain the world around us. People in ancient times didn't actually believe that the gods were walking among us as flesh and bone, but a lot of people think they did because of Christianity working that way

As for your actual question, I would recommend being familiar with the stories of any deity you intend on forming a relationship with- even if it's just the gist of it- because that is still part of them, but there are a million different takes on what deities are. Some people see each one as a different aspect of one overall being, some see the gods as all different versions of each other, and the list goes on and on

Hey everyone! It's been a while since I visited the server, but now that I have more time and willpower to delve into paganism and witchcraft, I wanted to hear some of your thoughts.

Here's some context: I'm a black latina (brazilian) person that has a lot of interest in paganism and practicing witchcraft. The problem is: I feel insecure about it because of my ethnicity.

I enjoy learning about the Greek and Celtic pantheons, but I feel distant, as if I'll never belong. I feel like many people would judge me for being black and believing in gods who are mostly from parts of Europe. Something like: “oh, you're black but worship “white european” gods? lmao”.

I'm leaning more towards a duotheism that believes all gods and goddess are different faces of two main gods (the Goddess and the God) and that you can work/worship them individually, but I still have this insecurity with the last part because of the origin of the beliefs.

I want to know if anyone has gone through an experience like this, and how you feel/felt about it. And even if not, what's your take on it. I feel kinda guilty, idk :/

I understand the feeling of being distant I am so sorry you’re struggling with it! I think what helped me was that I’ve always felt drawn to it and have a similar outlook to yours (mine is polytheism though)- I do understand the takes regarding origins etc but I think there’s the aspect of what humans have done. They’re both open practices but in the modern day there are still people who make those spaces feel less safe, their awful ways shouldn’t inhibit you from pursuing your journey if you’d like to! I unfortunately don’t have much advice as I too am still beginning my journey and still struggle with it but know that you aren’t alone! You’re welcome and accepted amongst those deities so please don’t let it stop you

I can only speak for Hellenism but I think looking at deities known for the protection of outsiders or “travellers” can be a huge help, also deities that are imported or come from different places even within their personal myths. No deity is going to shun you because you don’t look or fit a certain “type”!

I work with The Morrigan and Freyja. A couple days ago, right before bed, I was straightening up and passed by my altar where 3 decks of tarot sit. I had the strongest urge to use one of them.. And it felt wrong as I grabbed the first two decks, until I saw The Crow tarot and felt an immense need to grab that deck (this is The Morrigans deck). I brought it to my bedroom, thought about what The Morrigan might want to tell me, and pulled The High Priestess.
The Morrigan clearly wants me to work for her. But how should I handle this? I've never had such a strong calling before.

A experience I find interesting in my practice is that a deity would enter my space, say there peace (so whatever message they have for me) and then take off, I’m use to it by now 😂

Like a bit ago a deity entered my space, told me to be grateful for what I have, stop burning myself out, remember to love myself and keep being resilient and then took off (I always thank them for there messages)

Ive gone through a lot of really major and difficult life transitions in the last month or two, one of which was stepping away from practice a bit due to other things going on. But as Im now navigating those transitions, Ive been feeling very pulled to Cernunnos and Artemis. im a devotee of lady artemis actually! and ive gotta say working with her is a great thing, so if you feel pulld towards the wild, the moon or even randomly feeling the need to do something as simple as archery then lady arteis is indeed calling to you! she accepts many offerings like crystals, pine tree leaves, deer imagery, depictions of her. i mainly offer her food and some depictions of her, though you can offer anything! i find that she loves bows and arrows, mainly cause she is a hunter goddess. so if youre feeling pulled to her then consider trying to connect with her

The moon and the wild have been big ones. One of my hobbies is hiking and backpacking. I moved back in with family recently and one of their rules was not practicing any of my spiritual stuff in the house (theyre christian) so what Ive been doing is pouring out some of my water at the start and end of trails I hike as an offering, and then as thanks

my experience with artemis has been very positive, actually i wasnt the one who had initially reached out to her, once i started worshipping lord apollo she reached out to me, and from then on its been reat, i always see sparrrows by my window, feel more connected to the wild in m area and animals seem to just find me everywhere now, its like being in a fantasy except its just artemis looking out for you. you can also just light your candle for her to talk to her just so, believe me when i say she loves to hear about your day and give advice, she is brutally honest when tarot card reading but just for your sake so you know what to do or expect. anyhow, i love my time with lady artemis, recently ive started refering to her as mother artemis cause she is so maternal, so i would highly recommend you reach out when she does as well. trust me, its worth it

Tl;dr how do you pay 'recompense' to a deity for half-arseing it?

This may sound bad. Some time ago I offered to cover some shifts for a flame-keeping group which had some vacancies, and later they invited me to formalise joining their cill, dedicated to Brigid.
I accepted, but I've been half-arseing things, including forgetting shifts. I didn't really believe in deities as anything more than archetypes, really. (Which probably means I shouldn't have formally joined the cill, but here we are.)
I'm not sure that that view has necessarily changed. But it has occurred to me that my behaviour has been really disrespectful and I ought to make up for it.
Can anyone recommend some ways I can do that?

Hey guys so I love the Norse gods and respect all of them deeply but I’m worried to work with one more than the other? Like I’ve reached out to Odin but I feel almost like a pull to Loki. Everytime I read about him it just feels right. So one time I was laying in my bed just staring up at the ceiling and asked Loki, freya, and frigg if they could hear my words and give me a sign. I told them I was about to take a nap and to come to me in my dreams in some way or with a sign. (I didn’t end up taking my nap) but later that night when I went to sleep I did dream of freya appearing as almost a light, but I just knew it was her. Plus it was very pink and there were cats. When I woke up the first thing I did was walk over to my window to let some fresh air in and there was a cat staring directly at me from a neighbours house across the yard. I took it as a sign but I still haven’t reached out to her (for personal reasons) but her, frigg, and Loki I’ve felt very drawn to. Any advice or relations?

if you only feel drawn to the 3 gods right now, forcing yourself to interact with more than youd like can make you burnout or become resentful of your practice because it can feel more draining or otherwise frustrating to interact with.

Guys i have a problem that i don’t know how to fix. I started worshipping and working with Aphrodite a few weeks ago. I made an altar for her, with a statue, prayers, and offerings. When i first started talking to her, i didn’t notice anything weird. It felt normal, and the vetting questions were answered correctly. Even though i don’t really believe in tricksters, i still used it as a way of confirming.
When i asked her what our relationship would look like, she basically said it would be something that feels right to me. It doesn’t have to be something traditional or exactly from the books, but something unique. She also said i should start with controlling my emotions and working on myself, as well as finding her through self care, self love, and finding beauty in the things around me.
Then i started feeling anxious for no reason, and i think i started pushing too fast. I started asking her for help with a few things and wanted to communicate with her more often, but it felt hard to establish communication through divination. Some of the answers just didn’t make sense to me anymore.
When i asked if she was present in my everyday life, i got:3 of Wands,8 of Cups,The World reversed,9 of Swords,9 of Pentacles reversed,and The Hanged Man reversed.Also, while talking to her, i felt like she was telling me that i should stop searching for signs everywhere and stop being overly anxious.
Today i enchanted a perfume and gave it to her as an offering. Later, when i asked if i had even communicated with Aphrodite at all, i got The Hermit and Queen of Wands. Then i asked if she is present in my life and got:Five of Wands,Page of Cups,Seven of Pentacles reversed,Six of Pentacles,and The World.
I genuinely don’t know what to do anymore. I’m currently rethinking if i ever even talked to her once, or if it was just me imagining things or interpreting things the way i wanted to. I just feel confused and overwhelmed right now.

So firstly, I would suggest not pulling that many cards if you're asking a single question, because that can get you very conflicting answers unless all of these are all for clarification.

I think shes also like telling you to chill on constantly checking if shes around which is fair.

if you need to constant check if your deities are with you at all times then you might need to step back from practicing with them. at least until you have a baseline of not being anxious around them

• are you hoping that they leave you some kind of physical sign so, you know that they are around?
• is there any particular reason that aphrodite has given you (Besides the tarot readings that you've done) that have indicated that she is unhappy with your current relationship?
• How do you think your practice differs from everyone else's to warrent that kind of reaction?

Some of these won't be easy questions to answer so I would genuinely just take your time to reflect on them
