Well, "diagonal pixels" is just when one "pixel" is made up of enough smaller ones such that, by rotating it, it still looks like a pixel. Old consoles didn't allow for scaling sprites at all, and rotation was limited (SNES had support, MegaDrive did not, for instance)

and then a few hours later, they removed that from the patch notes. but the only thing indicating the removal is a very vaguely phrased addendum at the bottom of the patch notes, and the absence of that section from the patch notes as well
