I put the shading (multiply settings) on high and used blue tones to replicate the darkness of the temple. The lighting (add settings) are on a lower opacity both because add settings are REALLY powerful and the temple is dark anyways, so it’s accurate. I used both white and yellow there to show how they’d both affect it differently, because those were the two colors of light used fo illuminate it (yellow and white) and,… yeah… on the Tyrian purple base, they’re pretty exact to the colors shown in Spade’s pictures

Also my brain keeps telling me it’s a pride flag for some reason. Valley elder pride flag???

Ok but acfually. If valley had a separate flag like countries do, it would probably be this one. The idea of being a valley citizen as a gender is killing me though, so I’m going with that because it’s the funnier option, and because I feel like all the spirits there would unanimously agree to make a pride flag specifically for themselves

From what we’ve learned in both abyss, and generally the little snippits of past wasteland/golden valley. It’s safe to say that the world of sky most definitely flooded at some point, which means this dark water in the picture, shouldn’t be here, it should be dry land, and that isle was probably far bigger than it is now. Which means that the ancestors in the switch trailer couod have actually gone towards eden and then to isle from the way they came, whule staying on dry land the entire time.

I imagine that their friends, lonely, write messages to them in the message boats to cope with their absence until they return.

Alright. So I think the only variation are the krill in shipwreck and the area before the elder temple so I’ll start with them
These krill… hear EVERYTHING
They are EXTREMELY aware
Even the slightest shift in the sand and they pick it up and know where you are
In other words, you’re doomed unless you can escape the area. For some reason they find it eerie to leave the land they know
The flap of your wings, every step, and even a breath slightly too loud gets their attention
Not to mention their sight
There’s next to no light besides the lanterns they see around
They will notice a skid fast as lightning
The easiest way to escape their sight is hiding right by those lights. They know those lights and know they aren’t alive. They’ll assume you’re no different

The other krill in the first area and the graveyard are less keen on their senses
They have plenty of food to last them so they don’t need to rely on such things
But DONT take that as a weakness
They will hear that large call to knock over the crab in your way and won’t hesitate to investigate
They see that odd glimmer above them and hate the strange creature invading
They are just as strong and fast as their variations in shipwreck and battlefield
They can’t fit in the pipes but won’t leave if a skid chooses to hide in one. Just stare… with their eerie gaze until they’re forced to come out due to insanity or starvation
They don’t pick up on footsteps and wing beats but are also just as fooled as hiding inside the light sources as the other krill
Comforting lights… they know these lights… they’re nothing new nor living

Lastly, I don’t think anyone survives…
the valley elders are known for being the only elders to never grant anyone entry through their temple
No matter the offerings… you are not strong enough
The wind paths are guarded by sentries to keep away skids curious enough to try through the ark way
The wasteland elder weeps everytime they sense the new light in his domain diminish
They know another child has failed to reach them

The longest I’ve had a skykid character petrified in Eden was a year and a month.
Naihho was petrified for 5 weeks on their first Eden run cos they hid in a hard to find place.

as long as they had shared flames, a skykid would be able to recognize another skykid no matter their appearance or what their voice sounds like. the more often they share flames, the stronger that recognition, and the farther apart they can recognize each other.

however darkness can hinder that ability, such as the smog in Wasteland. a skykid petrified in darkness would also be heavily obscured from flame recognition, though their friend may feel a pull toward certain statues with a sense of familiarity. that is how Naihho discovered and revived Amander.

breaking the statue would actually be very difficult cos not only are skykids in Eden weak due to the darkness around them but the petrified skykids are very sturdy, much as in life. ascending skykids do break through the shell and shatter it. their body isn't important anymore. their soul is what has be saved. their petrified body is protecting their soul from the worse of the darkness.

so a skykid soul who's petrified shell shattered would vulnerable to darkness. but because of how hardy their shells are, it hasn't happened.

In my alternate Sky continuity Megabird can split experiences gathered by their creations (the experience does not become part of the star core, it only surrounds it) into its simplest forms, logics, personality traits, instincts, etc. that can be given to other stars to start with

So when an ancestor gets reborn, their personality could be completely changed but their star core would always stay the same

In fact, a major part of my alternate continuity is that skykids would realize that their personalities are made by splitting them off from ancestors they ascend and that each time they rebirth, their personalities will be split and recreated as much as it needs to become more "perfect" for their mission and circumstances

Edit: I forgot that skykids can also get their personalities from split-off components coming from any of Megabird's creations, including mantas

in my ficverse, skykids may go to Orbit specifically to see spirits or Elders. being reborn strengthens their flame rather than their cape level, so that's a benefit too. they may also go to fade into the Light.

they may partake on Eden runs for different reasons, more often because they feel a "call" to Eden for all the winged light they collect. some can resist the call, some cannot. it's a call from their fellow skykids, to save their peers petrified and waiting for revival. some have a guilty complex for collecting winged light and enjoying life when many others are locked in Eden and cannot.

other reasons include shepherding moths on their first runs, for "fun," or to prove themselves, to map Eden, etc

ah, a fellow "plenty of skykids go to eden just cause they want to and not because of some outside reason" believer! i headcanon a similar thing to that, though with a bit less actually having a genuine purpose in what they do there and a bit more "eden seems a lot more important than it really is to skykids for a number of both perceived and physical reasons" and a whole lot more "its the easiest way to see megabird. they dont take death seriously dying just means you visit mom"

One of my most incredible experiences as a moth was when I tried to go alone on my second run, but I couldn't get past the rock rain, and a vet lit my candle and immediately unlocked chat with me and told me "just hold my hand, do what I do, give light to the children, and you'll make it" I thought she was a guardian angel or smthn lol

I like to think that orbit is megabird because it is a perfectly circular environment made of purely light, and in the concept art Tom Zhao describes circular objects as the most pure things on the spectrum

reminds me of how in my ficverse there are some skykids who go to Eden, charging by the petrified statues, and try to march on to the center of stormlock to see what's up. they never make it because of how intense the storm is. yet because they've marched on so far, other skykids seldom reach them, so the ones who were curious remain petrified for very long time. that's why that one skid was petrified for a year + a month.

My devotee OC hasn't been to Eden so long because they know that as long as they haven't gotten all the spirits yet they will simply be reborn. They say they force the spirits to ascend because they're devoted to Megabird and their duty, and while that is part of their motive, the bigger motive is that they hate the ancestors and their existence and want to get it done with as fast as they can.

that's how I think of Megabird. the Light is a collectivist hivemind containing, preserving, connecting every individual being of light within it. Megabird is the Light's consciousness – They are only aware of what the beings in the Light is aware of. Megabird acts on the Light's behalf, making decisions for the wellbeing of the Light and the beings of Light who remain on the world below. hence the creation of skykids.

sometimes i see what this chat gets up to and feel like my headcanons are. too silly. the best i can sum up all my takes on the lore at once is... lots of themes of a lack of entropy and the idea that skyworld is a world that's already ended, and that a world can end and still be full of life forevermore

however most skykids get reborn. they don't fade into the Light. at most they can skim the surface in Orbit and hear voices within the Light whispering to them or hear the susurrous of songs.

Megabird: I had hope for them, of course... but if you just look around you, you'll see that they have failed... their drive and passion might have been great, but they failed themselves in the end. Their drive won't disappear, it'll just belong to someone else. Someone like you.

I say "very least" because i personally headcanon her to not act particularly... godlike. i think megabird deserves to be silly and emotional and caring and maybe she cries a lot and maybe i'm self projecting my own autism onto her but i do that to literally every character i've ever liked. I think Megabird makes mistakes and has feelings and cares about her children so very much. she's so very proud of them all and wishes she could be more involved in their lives, to actually be able to raise them herself instead of watching from the afterlife.

They're full of emotions, thoughts, and feelings. it can be overwhelming sometimes. oftentimes They make major decisions slowly because They are negotiating so many ideas. but ultimately They act on the sum of Their thoughts.

my personal theory is that the king/prince is... literally just a skykid who didn't know any better. the ancestors put a young child in a position of power and expected them to be able to handle all that responsibility. said child could not handle the responsibility. its not their fault, its the fault of the adults who not only let a literal child rule their kingdom but also expected that child to act like a responsible adult

i mean i... i really don't like just accepting that a characters gonna be trapped in their bad situation forever just because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time or ended up on the wrong side of the hero-villain dynamic or anything like that. I get very attached to those characters and usually start self projecting and once I self project onto a character it actually kinda hurts to remember that, in canon, they're never going to be happy.
hence why, (slams fist on cheap plastic folding desk for the thirteenth time this week), i have to headcanon that there is, in fact, some way to bring the king back to the land of the living and that just. nobodys figured it out yet

i can accept that canonically the king probably isnt gonna get a happy ending but no force on earth can stop me from headcanoning otherwise! :D

later when you do eden you return to your state of the 'blue light', you get pulled to eden from how power hungry it is for light as the red crystal in the castle needs a source to keep living, but when you enter it you form your 'shell' of a light form again, sadly you arent as bright as before and it'll be hard to move as your light cant control the body!! but then another blue light, the half of your whole is sitting in a lighter room, they require darkness to make sure they dont shine to bright and get noticed by dark creatures easier.

after you hug and 'merg' again you leave the trap of the red crystal with all the past children of light you saved!! when you are the in between (the room before you are reborn) the elders are there waiting for you to come home again and join them, as well as the spirits you help giving you more things for your journey!! though they do hope one day this cycle of pain stops soon for you lights, that one day the king wakes up and helps

Yep! Both of them use similar mechanisms - darkstone disks inside the stone shell. The ones in citadel are to make the orreries float; they both spin at the same time. The ones in vault are to make the platforms float :3

We were talking about doors and elders a few days ago acrually. I realized that the elder statues and all the doors in Sky have the same shape, which I thought was pretty neat and might be related to this!

After a war and possible natural disasters, all the buildings in there were destroyed beyond recognition, and the Eden disaster only made it worse. Hence why it’s so destroyed

My theory is that the prophecy murals are very recent. They are the explanation of how we became the world's saviors. So, therefore, they knew about the situation the world was in, which means the darkness already existed. It may have been a last ditch effort to see who was worthy.

ok here's my wasteland take. The elders are connected to their realms, right? And Tsadi, the wasteland elder, has a mask that resembles a whale. It mostly resembles the whale skull that we see in the boneyards. And his hair resembles krill. Tsadi is not the only elder whose physical appearance resembles light creatures so I'm not pulling this out of nowhere.
At some point in all of these wasteland things happening, the whale population is heavily damaged. We only see like 3 of them in the whole game, and we don't even know if those are all seperate creatures. The whale issue + the damage to the realm is why we see tsadi injured in their cutscene. But beyond that he probably completely embraced his aspect of General, to try and protect what's left of the realm and the Vault that lies just beyond it.
I also have a fun little personal hc that before wasteland was like... this... Tsadi wore a mask that looked like the one Lookout Scout uses

No, not really. It looks like a cloud. The Eden mountain (which you can see in the mural above) does not look like a dollop of icing, it is just /\ basically - wrong shape. It probably would’ve also been shown in a different, darker color

So what do you think Eden used to look like? It being a normal mountain before ≠ it looking like hell. Like, it can be normal mountain pre storm (as it’s depicted in the murals) and the storm made it look like that

I think of winged light kind of as Peter Pan’s shadow—since we’re creatures of light, our shadows (or rather anti-shadows) are made of light, but the anti-shadows have a mind of their own and a tendency to wander

The idea of pre-sky kid eden makes my heart flutter temples, gardens, marketplaces, schools and libraries, education, enlightenment, sky scrapers and councils, and the king's beautiful castle, filled with depictions of Megabird, the closest site leading to ascension with Megabird... Prophets and spirits living in harmony, the beautiful statues carved ever so carefully, everything lined with golds and whites, life everywhere...

There’s still evidence that could point to us or the Prophecy guide being the chosen one, but I will agree that the Prince seems likely, even if it isn’t my favorite choice

Then again there are a lot of "small folk" they could be in them, but only the elders are shown with distinctive features

1. The track that plays when you complete the Trials is called Fulfillment.
2. Skykids also fit what’s going on in the murals.
3. The lantern orientation that surrounds the Prophecy Guide is similar to the ones found in the murals.
4. There is an arc over the Prophecy Guide’s helmet, which is similar to what is found in the murals.

We do see the other isle spirits (including rejecting voyager, which is cute) but we don’t see the prophets??
Possible explanations:
-> they just weren’t in any super important scenes that need depicting. Like the entire training sequences or whatever jsut weren’t shown
-> they are passive observers instead of directly involved in the events so they were cut out
-> the scene that they would have painted was really embarassing so they decided not to paint it

The first and second one can be easily explained by us both doing the trials. We’d feel happy after completing them, right? And we are also glowing children who did the trials. (The reason why I doubt that the murals have us in them is that, even outside of the trial scenes, the kid doesn’t have the WL symbol that we seem to be synonymous with).

The last two… I mean, maybe? But considering the amount of evidence for the king, and comparing them, they jsut don’t seem like they can compete.

oh you hit the nail on the head there. Sky is the story of a community and not one person. On hand I have these two slides from a slideshow in pinned that point out how sky avoids the heroes journey plotline.
Sometimes i feel we may see the king in a little too many things, but the chosen one thing here does make sense. If the kingdom fell, and the king was involved, they could have chosen to mirror the heroes journey to highlight why it fails
Regardless of how you see the king, whether he grew up or stayed young, whether he was corrupted by darkstone or got in too deep trying to help or any other explanation. At the end of the day the King had too much weight on his shoulders, and when he fell stability within the realms turned to chaos. Granted I don't think Resh was the sole person responsible for the fall of the kingdom but he was certainly a catalyst

I will admit that there’s not much going for the Prophecy Guide compared to the King. Besides those pieces of evidence, there’s really not anything besides my own personal ideas. I would be extremely shocked if TGC made the Prophecy Guide the canon Chosen One.
