The theory:Krills are dark mantas
You may wonder why I think that, well, it all started the day when the inhabitants of the kingdoms of Sky didn't hear the person who spoke to us at the beginning of the game, who knew a big threat was coming and tried to warn them. Most did not hear it, except for some inhabitants of the Isle of Dawn, who took their things and left, leaving the others behind (that's why there are no houses or only a few spirits in that place).
Continuing with the initial theory, the kingdoms did not heed the warning and went on with their lives, but thanks to the resentment of losing it all a soul thought that a good business could be developed in Golden Wastedland, and from there the history of the krills begins.
The business was oil, near the outskirts of the Golden Wastedland territory an oil field had been found (hence the factory in the first area of ​​the kingdom) and it was thought that a lot would be gained and invested in that business: more technologies , many functions and a new form of payment, money, since bartering existed until then. Permits were requested and granted, so they got to work. They put pipes, extraction machines and decided a place where they could go to leave the remaining oil, the eye of Eden was the ideal place, since no one would realize that the remains were going to be left there.
Some went on alert because they thought the pipes were going to break down because they were put too close to where the mantas lived. -A parenthesis here, I think that the mantas were native to 2 places: Daylight Prairie and Golden Wastedland, but there were more in the last mentioned place than in the prairie, because there is still a manta in Golden Wastedland (the one at the entrance to the cemetery). How did the Golden Wastedland mantas disappear? for that we must continue with the theory.-

i feel like Krills are just creatured of pure darkness, who attack and consume light for the purpose of we,, expanding their territorry

another theory that i have is that krills are that krills are all of the dead people at Eden and Wasteland combined, for example a skykid becomes corrupt and gets killed by the explosion of Eden and their dark cores become Krills

and the reason why they attack us is because they see us as winged light and they want to come back to life

but even if they tried, it would never succeed which is sad :(

and spirits who weren't corrupt instead became spirits that left memories to tell future skykids about their story and teach them something

those who were corrupt, were followers of the King and helped him with all of the innovations of Darkstone which grew to the King, making him very obsessive to the point where he made a large Diamond to put in the peak of Eden, the Eye of Eden. He thought it would make him have the power equal to Megabird, but even with the warning from Megabird he still didn't listen.

with that he let go of Megabird's control and miserably failed

i also have a theory that the Isle elder's mask was destroyed because he got into a fight with the King himself which is really interesting to me

well before that, the Isle elder decided to listen to the warnings from Megabird and perhaps was also commanded to fight him but sadly lost

and with their loss, Megabird decided to create sky children to give the elders another chance to bring back the light of their kingdom and turn to the bright side, but we were just too weak to face the storm of the Eye of Eden

The kingdom was built as a haven for the mantas, where they would be cared for and raised to bring light to the community, but it was believed that that principle was being lost by the construction of the factory and all the pipes around it. Some protested to the factory, and the same day that the kings of the kingdoms were going to be a general advice on the situation, a mother manta hit the pipe at the entrance of the kingdom and spilled all the liquid that it brought, other mantas followed in the destruction of the pipes: some collided with the pipes that are in the hidden place of the kingdom and others broke the pipes at the entrance of the temple of the kingdom.
The waters in Golden Wastedland were filling with oil, but that no longer looked like oil since there were the pulverized remains of the mantas that collided with the pipes and the liquid was seen with a dark brilliance and that alerted more inhabitants. The mother manta went to die at the bottom and center of the cemetery, the only skeleton that was perfectly preserved from all the fallen. A rescue plan was started and transferred of all the mantas of the place to Daylight Praire, some did not find them, others wanted to stay and some had bugs in the middle of some black patches, the latter were few, since most of the mantas were flying over the leak.
Those that remained were almost half of all the natives, those began to fill with what covered the waters of the kingdom and the smallest began to die, the other larger ones began to get used to it, but also to become smaller, since their main food was sunlight and they were not receiving it as before. There were more people upset by the situation and more people discussing whether or not it was favorable for the factory to continue operating, a day came when the whole kingdom and some more went to protest at the factory where the cause of the gradual disappearance of the mantas, and that same day the Eden volcano exploded.

There was destruction near the volcano and some rocks remained that were mixed with the waste of the old works of the oil factory; the realm of Vault of Knowledge was closed in on itself and no one was allowed to leave or enter with the knowledge stored for generations; Golden Wastedland was filled with the ashes of the eruption and was left with almost no power, a situation that worsened the problem with the mantas; the ashes passed by the sides of Valley of Triumph since it was in the heights; these ashes reached the vicinity of Hidden Forest and began to gather the clouds above that kingdom and an acid rain began to rain, which turned off the lights and caused the plants to grow uncontrollably; in Daylight Prairie the clouds began to disappear and it began to receive more light than it had, generating excessive growth of the mantas over many years and several burns and sunstrokes in the inhabitants, for which they had to leave; the only safe kingdom was Isle of Dawn and this was overpopulated by all the migrations of the other kingdoms, which produced that there were no areas to build and that several ended up crushed in the crowd.

Returning to Golden Wastedland, more mantas began to die from lack of light, but others (the largest among those affected) resisted and began to drink the contaminated water. While clean water became scarce, some black crab-shaped creatures began to appear from the sides of the waters and began to attack the inhabitants of the kingdom, these same creatures were the ones that were in the rescued mantas and some of these creatures they took off in Hidden Forest, but others made it to the Daylight Prairie sanctuary (that's why there are lighter crabs in the sanctuary).
Over the years, the Golden Wastedland mantas consumed all the clean water that was left, and locals found that the crabs gave them more resistance and almost the same nutrients as clean water.
The dark mantas, since there was no trace of white left, began to weaken and eat the fire of the homes near the inhabitants, these began to be alarmed because their houses began to be destroyed and some were wounded from the "spears" to the lights of the blankets, so they began to train to protect themselves and created an army of tough and strong soldiers against the dark mantas that they began to call krills and dark crabs.
Krills evolved to better detect where there was light, like machines to detect metal things, but this system sometimes reached some inhabitants and they began to eat them. The krills realized that an inhabitant was more delicious than a light, and their descendants began attacking the soldiers of Golden Wastedland left and right.

There was still a group of merchants who believed that the krills were still mantas (those of the Season of Enchantment), but they lost their lives when a krill attacked them while they prepared their position on their broken ship.
The krills adapted their detection system so that the krills that accompanied them prepared to eat (hence the blue and red of the light, and the bending of their bodies when they attack). One day the soldiers began to get sick since the crabs now carried dark liquid inside them, and these began to fall on the battlefield, one by one the krills and this disease from eating crabs were slowly ending them, until the "king" or leader of Golden Wastedland died and appointed a valiant soldier to replace him. This replacement did not last long since he was the last to survive the situation in Golden Wastedland, becoming a kind of spirit that would be left reigning a phantom kingdom where dark crabs and krills lived.

So today I was doing my casual ||Eden run||, except right as I was about to get stoned to death, a moth joined and hence I was stuck as a blue light and that should've been the end of it. But instead I got yeeted all the way up and got an interesting viewpoint of the whole of ||Eden||. I'm not sure if this happened before to anyone else or maybe it did but for theorizing this might come in handy.

We can kinda confirm that there are many coloured lights, not only the six we save.
Some of them are seen in one of the tents in the a Ark and others in the Sleepy Traveler boat. I've got the idea that they were the "physical" form of the Spells

Taking what Esega said about krills being dark mantas, I think they were there long before the war and the oil extractions had started. The GWL temple area reminds me of that of a palace, so maybe there were some kinds of leaders in each realm, or maybe just what is now the wasteland, which would make sense; kind of like a monarchy or something? The krill might’ve been those giant mantas we can see in the Sanctuary. But I don’t think they were stuck somewhere, they were probably just flying around, leaving beings of light alone. But after the war and the pollution, some dark being used the krill to their advantage, so if any beings of light tried to enter they would be attacked, leaving them alone. This is a weird theory, and I’m sure there is already something explaining it lol

Okay, i think ive figured it out. Now that i have the lore aficionado role i think i can speak in here. Hopefully discord will cooperate and upload this video. It’s of the new introduction sequence in sky! Instead of a video, you light up candles in isle’s first cave to get the gist of the situation.

Had to use screen recorder since the in-game recorder doesn’t pick up the text.

Another thing I picked up on was the number of candles that were lit for each section. The first section has three, the second has ten, with three placed higher, the third has one, and the last has three.

My theory is that the candles correlate with the amount of spirits in existence of the time frame spoken of during each section. It’s a small population of spirits at first, then grows larger as they prospered, then went extinct as darkness came, and maybe the three candles at the end represent the spirits that called us on this mission.

I think the number of candles usually rep for the number of spirits. Like I think the final dreams scene has the same amount of villagers (plus the guide)? Maybe. I....didn’t actually make sure. I think Vault alter has one for each whole elder. And valley has 2 one for each elder. But none of the others make sense that way.

Mantas I can see since they come out of the windows when you open the doors. Butterflies. Dunno. Like that butterfly looked pretty willing to get in the pot.

He is also theorized to be the victor of the prophecy mural, the fallen child of isle, the glowboy at the end of eden, and possibly the source of the glowboys. Maybe even rebirthed into skykids.

The art concept of the Ark has “Alef/Resh” written in the corner. Which is why I think they are the same. Alef I think has meaning of being the first, as its the first letter of the hebrew alphabet, while Resh is the corrupt letter. Question: would skykids be similar to golems?

Their bodies are fire resistant, dont need to breath, can house a literal flame that is their livelihood (when snuffed, a skykid has not protection and can lose their winged light), can act as a vessel to collect winged light (stars) and when committing to the end in eden, they turn to stone.

There is old concept art that suggests a skykid is a hybrid of an acestor and a child of light.
Points that an suport this claim is a skykid's soul is blue, similar to spirits (which are the ancestors) and in eden, a skykid becomes a statue just like the fallen children of light you return their light to.

One last idea to toss up is a thought about what a skykid's purpose is.
In the beginning of the game, we are told to return the fallen stars (winged light- children of light). Although, a skykid can also forge candle wax from the light of other candles. Skykids can produce more light while lit up themselves. In essence a skykid can generate more light as long as they have their own supply.
This is also shown when an elder meets a skykid and takes the light the skykids have.
Would a skykid's purpose be being a source of light for the eldersn while they are caught in a loop of rebirth when they return the stars in eden?

The highest one, the one for Eden, had an extra ring around it. I think it represents the halo for a winged light. The others did not have these, so they were also stars (+).
The old scene showed the eden elder was connected to all of the others and each elder under him ruled over a constellation.
So, the elder are either made of stars or are greater starry entities to the children of the light, and indirectly the skykids too because we can call on our friends through stars.

So, all that said, the elders, the children of light and the skykids are all form the heavens that fell into the clouds.
Perhaps there lies another theory here about how these entities visit the ancestors.
Oh man, I must think about this more!
Because that can also make an interesting link to the big bird theory. Because that reference is just as cryptic as the Alef/Prince/Corrupted king thread, but it is not entirely dismissed as fanon!

That is where I learned about the Eden Elder (or lack there of in the game currently), their names that are no longer considered canon but had great insight to their meaning and a beautiful concept art.

I was thinking, why Eden is so broken, and the closest you get there, the more stuff is broken?
And i thought, what if the big red crystal in Eye of Eden and all the other small ones, are actually temnants of the comete shower?

It also matches the "ending cutscene' when you reborn. While you see the credits you can manage to see 2 planets, one is blue (water) and one is purple/red.

We know that sky world is actually full of water, so the other planet, must be the source of darknes and red stones.

While that changed when the throne was moved inside the temple and the wasteland elder instead shown getting ready to fight.

The krills intend to gunt skykids.
It would be odd for the elder to be associated with them.
Perhaps he looks a bit like a the krill because that is what he is hunting the krill, or at least keeping them out of the temple.

So you know in ascended, up to orbit, after you gather wax from spirits you know? You’re greeted with, I’ll call them light skykids, and they have names from your friends. This got me thinking; you know that after you die in eden the light skykids break out of the statues?

WHAT IF they left something behind when they ascended? And not just their winged light?
Or maybe it’s like, “the light inside you” or it’s symbolic of attachment or hope.

Hello lore chat! So I saw someone wondering from where the krills of batterfield come. I was cr in wasteland today and the answer is : they spawn from the polluted water (I couldn't take a picture of it appearing but it's just like the krill in upper swamp)

Oh yeah, ive seen krill emerge from the ground there. I think that’s just a bug from the recent updates, though.

I just thought : maybe the krills are semi aquatic and aerial creatures

I also have another theory that krills are attired by light/energy. Like the krill in upper swamp appear only when our skid is here or the manta, the ones in battlefield appear when we open the gate, which mechanism to open it probably use massive light energy so that's why they come out of their cozy underwater home to see what's producing this light energy.

Hi lore chat, I have a question: could the ancestor spirits fly? Some of them wear capes, but others don’t, and plenty of places in the game are only accessible by flying (ex. citadel), which makes me think the ancestor spirits must have either been able to fly or rode creatures of light (I think the manta whisperer does this in their memories, but I could be mistaken). There might be a spirit memory where a spirit flies and I just forgot, but I’m curious to what your theories are

Hello there! Well I do nt knw if it is canon but I believe that spirits sdo not fly. Skykids only do and that is one of the hings that gave Alef big power but anyway. The hing is that spirits have them as cosmetics (with he wholeswome word meaning) and not like tools. Hope I answered your question!

There’s also a theory that says that they were initially one elder but were somehow split in two, because they only have one eye each, but I think that’s just a theory, not canon

Also i have a question, it is confirmed from a devs livestream that the forest and vault elder are related, but if all life in sky comes from "The Light" /Megabird, then how come everyone isnt family?

I think they split into twins from being one soul (like how some cultures believe of twins) and thats why they have 1 eye and arm each

Both races end at same place because whole city of valley was built around the coliseum. Rich people live above the clouds in floating structures, middle class on the ground above the clouds and slums under the clouds

I would say possibly.
There is a spirit in the citadel are in Valley of Truimph who rides mantas.
And the Timid Bookworm was seen standing on Jellyfish.

So, jn a sense, they can float up similar to a capeless skykid and ride animals that can fly at least.
But along the same lines of what @Kostas#9551 said, spirits that have not been blessed by the elder of Dawn (daleph, I thi k Alef is the elder of eden?) cannot fly.

That and I do not recall any spirit seen to be truly flying.

I don't think they were a single being that separated later. Why? Cause look at their anatomy carefully, the torso feels intact only the limbs and that eye (which might as well be a mask)

Plus it's not symmetrical at all

They even stand next to each other in orbit to show they are split in the middle similar to the split on their throne.

Spikey hair guy is the red team and is right handed. Mushroom head is blue team and left handed.

The seperated throne was outside and had their own colours. But the one inside, the one we have today, is stil one throne that is spilt in two.
