So maybe there used to be a place where the elders originally lived but something related to darkness happened and they fell. They made a new home in the clouds which is the Sky Kingdom where the Sky-kids (aka the players) play as. So maybe there used to be a kingdom or something other than just the Sky Kingdom we know. Maybe it got destroyed by darkness or something... It was maybe the home of elders before it got destroyed.
