It always seemed implied to me, particularly by the Ark murals, that at least crabs, came about due to the ancestors’ light harvesting.

Personal headcanon is that crabs and krill are organisms that were always there in the background, and only allowed to proliferate when light harvesting started on a large scale.

Where do these come from? Do the Chinese servers actually hand out lore info just like that?

It mentions stuff about the King dying and the Prince we know taking over and neglecting the warnings about darkstone. Things like the rebellion against the new King, the creatures fighting alongside their long gone ancestors. Mantas being named by the people after the will of the mother or smthin.

A lot of stuff fits, but some things seem to clash with known stuff too. Maybe these are the “differences” I heard about?

The point is being missed I think. That’s why you’re all upset at the moment. Everything you discuss, and piece together is fantastic. But the lore is set up specifically to be up for individual interpretation. Some things fit, others don’t, but the thing to remember is that what doesn’t fit with one popular opinion isn’t necessarily wrong. It fits with someone else’s opinion.

A lot of this is about how you present ideas too. We all share sky, and have a different connection to the game and its messages. And we all have different viewpoints and see different details. judging theories to be canon or not gives a feeling of gatekeeping. There's many ways to look at it and a 'canon' version is like saying there is only one, and shutting down anyone else. It can feel a bit disheartening to come in excited and be told "it's not canon"
