when the prince opened the ascension beam the elders wanted to go to orbit and go home and the spirits wanted a way to ascend without dying...
and that was the ascension beam...
but several elders were worried that if neutral creatures manipulated and used the light creatures' road to ascension, it would destabilze the network... so they kept it under guard...
but the duds that wanted to go to orbit were persistent and they made an army... they attacked wasteland and wasteland trained krill and fortified its factories... and then they fought...(how the war went is specified in the ver.1.0 and its super long so imma ommit that) then the war reached eden and whether it was an accident or on purpose the beam-emmittor blew up and thats why shards of it r still flying around in eden...
so now the ascension beam could only be opened temporarily by the prince and small er cuz the eimmitor was gone.. so the king went and hid in orbit and the war ended... but vast amounts of resources were exhausted by the war and a lot of the working class was now dead.. so then came famine and disease... the spirits decided this was all the elders` fault and they rebelled and imprisoned the elders in limbo
with no clear leader and very little magical protection with the elders in limbo, the ancestors descended into anarchy and it all went south with all the famine and disease and infighting and so they went extinct... so thats how it all came to be

Two different ideologies of how light should be treated: The diamond clan thought light should be used as a power source to create the power diamonds and power new technologies, while the sunburst clan thought light shouldn't be trapped in diamonds and should exist freely and “shine like the sun.”

Technology caused more corruption to spread. There was possibly a faction of ancients who wanted to stop the use of technology to keep it from spreading, versus those who wanted to advance society further.

Golden Wasteland was the second most industrialized realm (first would be Eden) in the sky world and possibly the most militarised one (four out of six spirits are military, and there are soldier statues at the entrance corridor to the broken temple). For it’s potential to be a threat, especially due to its proximity to Eden, the King fills the realm with his statues (there are 9 in total - 2 of them broken in half - not counting the turrets atop the GW temple) as a way to assert his position of leadership over the land. Then the anti-power diamond movement started and, considering the polluted water, it must have been stronger in Wasteland than any other realm.
So the people there start a strike on diamond mass production, threatening the entire line of production, and, when the king sends his men in to end it, the GW spirits are backed by their Elder. There starts the civil war with GW troop’s winning at first, and it ends with the king using his giant diamond to level wasteland (the level of destruction there is comparable only to Eden, and hardly was caused by only men-to-men combat). But by doing so, the king corrupts his giant diamond, leading to the eventual fall of Eden and the spread of darkness to all the other remaining realms.

the “Nature Realms” and the “Industrial Realms” had a civil war. The Nature Realms are the first 3, the Industrial Realms are the last 3. So after forest makes the diamond, the industrial realms move in and start making many diamonds. The abundance of floating contraptions in the later 3 realms indicate that the industrial realms mass produced the diamonds. The first 3 realms don't have many diamonds, indicating that (even forest) the first 3 realms were nature friendly. Eden was in ruins (and the eden elder who is unsavable (confirmed by devs)) so the nature realms rebelled (because of the 2 shields theory).
The nature realms use boats extensively so it can be assumed the warships are converted trade ships and part of the rebel army. The krill circle the forts which are in wasteland so the krill were probably used in the war by the industrial realms (this is getting harder to type I`m just gonna refer to them as diamonds from now, and the nature realms as suns) so valley is unharmed because it has no military installations, and so the suns move on to wasteland. Warships are made and deployed, so krill are placed at higher altitudes to destroy the warships if they come close to the forts (because the krill circle the forts).

The forgotten ark is probably collateral damage caused by the krill that is still guarding the straits even after the war. Firework staffs are probably weapons because that is the only thing the crew from the shipwreck in wasteland has that even resembles a weapon. Maybe the spirits can make it shoot stronger projectiles… idk. . Barricades and trenches were probably used to siege the forts and provide cover from krill`s blue light. Spears and shields are probably remnants of phalanxes, and since the swords seem to be made for cutting and slicing and not stabbing, the swords were probably not part of the phalanx and probably used to slaughter spearmen in the trenches (because spears are clumsy in small spaces and swords are definitely not) by the time we get to the battlefield part of wasteland the 2 armies seem to have united against some krills gone rogue because we see clumps of mixed symbols at these parts and the end cutscene shows that the krill are loose now….
Of course the carnage could be from close quarter fighting, but given that the vault is unharmed, the 2 factions, diamond and sun probably stopped fighting and made up in the temple in wasteland. Other possibilities include the rogue krill killing the allied armies of diamond and sun, or maybe the rebellion was quashed in the battlefield part of wasteland and had nothing to do with rogue krill. “*all sunburst shields face outwards from the temple, some diamond shields face inwards<{Maelstrom#5212}” could mean the suns had taken control of the temple and were trying to stop it from being retaken by the diamonds. Or we could look at this the other way around. The diamonds could have been the natural realms trying to get access to more diamonds, and the industrial realms trying to keep the diamonds to themselves.

I think, especially now having your perspective, that all of the animals that shine and provide us with light are also souls. They are ancestors too but “lesser”. The ancestors we see and interact with are the distinguished one, they have something that is important, a role or maybe a say in the past society that is vital to the future. But we need help from all of our ancestors, right? So that’s where jellies and birds and mantas come in. They are our past but they come in the form of animals. Maybe birds are the ancestors that were the most free, enjoying the relaxation and freedom of flight. Mantas are the ones who are the calmest and wisest. Jelly fish are the ones who had the most fun and expresssion and life in them

I have similar thoughts, but I was wondering if the time stasis wasn’t created by Megan as punishment but by the elders. We can assume that the fall of Eden was pretty quick and devastating, and the storms could have spread very rapidly. So the remaining elders put themselves in the dream sleep/time stasis to save the realms from being consumed. Megabird could have also done this so us skids could do what we can, but she seems very removed from all of this up until we are created.
