The King is the presumed monarch of the Sky Kingdom. He is important to the lore, and is in game, just not in the way you’d expect. The little information about him comes from the concept arts and devs, so there’s lots of room for your personal headcanons. It is commonly accepted that the King is the Eden Elder. The Eden Elder is « not around to be saved anymore ».

Who’s the Prince?
The Prince is canon, it’s up to us how he affects the lore. In the concepts, he played many pivotal roles throughout the lore, I suggest reading them to find your favourite. We do not know if the Prince and King are separate or the same, that’s for you to decide! The Prince is also considered the Eden Elder at times.

we have no purpose of our own, everything we come across in the desolate kingdom of sky are memories, remnant of a world that once was, the creatures of light journey upwards towards the orbit for eternality. so what is our purpose of being placed into this world made of fragments, one can argue that to reunite the stars once again is our purpose, but i think that is our mission, though no instructions or path points us in the direction of this objective, our purpose is one we destine ourselves to, altruism, self-sacrifice. the core of the game mechanics of sky involves giving, selflessness. we give the flame back to the elders, returning the pieces of memories of the ancestor spirits. giving, such a simple act of generosity yet innate. nihilism because our lack of meaning in interpretations the world, of our own existence and purpose, but we give our own facet of life meaning with love, not hatred, altruism, that is the difference. hence nihilistic altruism

to atone for your sins you'd have to step out of your comfort zone. while you have to do the right thing, it also means letting go of familiarity, which much more comforting than stepping into the unknown.

maybe we're all desensitised to our eden runs already, but to give up your lives for others - others you may not even know? that isn't something you'd easily be willing to do.

we have the choice of not stepping into eden and staying safe - that is what i'd call the 'selfish' path - but it is not something to be judged for as we all are selfish in some way, it's human nature.

but to atone for our sins as king by stepping into eden and giving up parts of ourselves to the fallen? it's at your expense, and you may feel like you wish you stayed safe out of eden, but at the same time you feel like you can't leave any of them behind.

so, yeah, you are giving up yourself for others in eden, for what you as the king/prince did in the past
