@trim egret they're early concepts for the game, it's changed a lot during development. E.g. the boat mentioned in Dawn was there in beta, but it's not in the release version - same with a lot of the rest.

I don’t think the child we hug is yourself, that doesn’t make sense imo, I strongly feel it’s the megabird because immediately after we get connected/glow and a 7 wing cape that’s too much power to come from hugging ourself

im usually a lurker in this channel but i can try to offer my views on the lore

most of the theories are to be taken with a grain of salt since there nothing solid on lore in the game

especially the ones based on concept art since its just conceptual and not all of it made it into the game

personally i think the connected-hybrid-indifferent thing does apply because we do see our skykids in all those states in-game

the connected thing implies connection to the megabird or at least thats the most popular theory

the megabird is a supposed godlike entity that appears briefly in the game if you know where to look but we never really interact with it

skykids become their connected version at the end of eden before entering orbit

and (at leat this is how i see it) becoming connected to the megabird is what allows us to enter orbit at all

theres a lot of king-shaped imagery in the game

and at the end of vault elder's cutscene theres a mural with the crown constellation showing a person with a crown

that is suggested to be the king (personally i think it is but theres no confirmation)

yeah! the concept art i just posted suggests that the king became corrupted so theres a strong theory about the kings corruption being a big reason behing the eden disaster

unfortunately since no piece of king-related lore has made it into the game besides very vague references and the vault elder cutscene mural theres no way of knowing exactly how big his role was in the catastrophe

the top of the wasteland temple and all those pillars/statues near the temple in the battlefield look a lot like the king's silhouette

and if you pay attention that four-point star shape appears all over the sky lingdom which would make sense if its the symbol of the king

I know this is a conversation from yesterday but that wasteland skeleton cluld be from the white dragon/large air whale... he does show up when you're going to the start area of wasteland. The white dragons seem to be a "good" version of the krill or dark dragons, as they were officially named... i've seen theories of krill being corrupted white dragons or something. Idk, just a possibility

They are probably very close to extinction, considering you only see one like 3 times going through the game. Either the krill overpowered them and drove them out, or they turned into the krill themselves.

Sky kids being made of wax is a popular theory, yes. I don’t think it’s been actually confirmed yet, but I could be wrong.

Right now, most of us agree that sky kids are children of the megabird, which is a sort of higher being that makes up our galaxy and is connected to all creatures of light.

They do reproduce actually! Or the ancestors did, we have a grandma spirit this season and in the wide/hero stance and salute spirit there’s young spirits

Or maybe familial relationships are formed a different way, like your constellation is your family

So it could be anything really, but the popular theory is they did reproduce and because the ancestors were immortal as well that’s why Valley is so big

so what if the king, likely the most powerful person in the kingdom with a very intense soul flame, decided to create the eden diamond with his own fire And Things Went Wrong

well a lot of the trees near the temple and bridges area were snapped off near the top, which doesn’t make sense. When you cut down trees, you cut them at the bottom and it makes a nice flat stump. But these trees look jagged as if they got snapped....
I theorize that the whale got hurt, possibly by the eden explosion infecting it with darkness (which explains the dark plants covering its bones), and it crash landed in the forest, snapping off the tops of the trees that fell down (which destroyed some of the buildings and bridges).

There's a spirit memory that shows a tree falling... but not the reason for it falling. That same memory used to involve burning dark plants all around the base. That suggests to me that the darkness is killing the forest.

And a thought that's been bouncing around in my head: darkness and light, balance, equilibrium. The children of light are at home in the darkness above, but leaving that world for the one below broke the balance, brought the darkness after them inadvertently. In this telling of the story, krill, crabs, dark plants all are made of the darkness of space.

When trees snap like that it's usually strong wind or lightning (which leaves burn marks). So I'd assume there was a huge storm that brought them down. (Doesn't rule out darkness killing the trees at all, dead trees break much easier than live ones, and live ones when broken tend to regrow, so this was likely a dead part of the forest)

I rewatched the Prairie cut-scene . I got the impression that it was the first time that the elders learned how to gather, contain and utilize the light as a sort of power. I found myself thinking that each butterfly/light they harvest would remove one from the world, leaving it a little broken. Would not have become evident for a while. The Prairie is filled with the jars and with a jar-maker. It fits the forest destruction and emergence of dark plants theory well. Now that they got power, they began collecting at a furious rate, leading to destruction elsewhere, like the forest.

My own theory that I am probing for more information on is:
Is the pulsating diamond at the end of the statue room of Eden a large, similar object to the diamond put together by the Forest Elder in the forest cutscene, and "used" by the Vault Elder in the vault end cutscene?
I have some wild theories with those connected with the intro "if only they had listened..."

Did the elders put too much light into a large diamond, and cause Edens storm?
Did that potentially create the dissonance between light and dark (creationist style), or attract the darkness (like Smaug in the Hobbit being attracted to hoards of gold)

Ah see I don’t believe gender is a thing in the game. Some of the spirits are so ambiguous I can’t begin to place them in a category so I don’t even try. Crying spirit is a prime example. I think the elders and spirits take on a form that they like and any gender speculation is just us as players forming impressions based on our own social constructs.

don't worry its understandable for the devs not to put him like

I’ve read back a fair bit, and I’ve got thoughts. If you take light away, you make space for darkness. The idea someone had that every butterfly captured takes one away from the world... which does make sense, the closer to Eden you get as you travel through the realms, the more light has been trapped (therefore taken away from where it belongs), the more destruction is visible, and the more darkness is able to manifest itself. You have a little bit of dark plant in isle, more on the towers in prairie, abundance of dark plants and some destruction of structures/buildings in forest, then the abandoned city in valley (filled with the sounds of crowds that are no longer there), ... then the darkness has fully overtaken any light in wasteland where now dark creatures have populated the ruins (I know the crabs are now in valley too but only a handful - still fits)... and the illusion that is vault, we see it’s glory and it’s ruins... finally Eden with all that explosive light energy that has been so compressed and manipulated, it destroys anything in its path....
Are the sky kids actually helping the situation? They can burn some darkness away but they can’t defeat a krill.... and the power is too strong in Eden to even survive... so they are stuck in an eternal loop, rescuing the same spirits, the same light statues, over and over.... in bringing their light to Eden, are they ultimately just fuelling the fire?

Are we sure that the portals from the home space are linked to the same time/space as the home area? Considering a teleport to reach areas, there are possibilities that we are being shown glimpses of past, present and future. Either on or off of the planet that we are on... if we are still on the same planet, then are we traveling to different geographical biomes? If we are seeing past/future, then are we seeing climate change as resulting from gathering light?

Except that the temples change. That leads to geographical differences, but it does not rule out past/future.

I still think it’ll be really interesting to see/notice if there is a “spread” of darkness with the next expansions etc

The game is evolving and so is the story. It is slowly revealing itself.

Oooh! I forgot that. So perhaps we are helping, but in small ways at the moment. Maybe that’s where the megabird eventually comes in. it’s all the light creatures. The butterflies, birds, mantas, etc.... maybe eventually we release enough to cause an enormous formation of light to gather together, that will sweep the darkness away...

The light in the Eden diamond though.... anyone attempt to fit that into these musings?

representing his greed for power

and therefore corruption
