Although, at some point in Sky's history, this natural cycle was repeatedly and harshly disrespected by the ancestors. Sacred temples were turned into factories. Light creatures were captured and either killed for sport or used for their energy (like the butterflies in the jars). And a substance I've heard referred to as "darkstone" was being mined out and used for technological advancements. We see it in an innert form everywhere. Elevators, flying boats, doorway mechanism, etc.
How exactly this substance works, I'm not entirely sure, but in its gray/blue form its mostly harmless to light creatures. It can be interracted with and used to power tech basically infinitely.
That brings me to color. Color is very important to the storytelling of Sky. It represents both different emotions as well as physical representations. Gray/black represents the physical. Like rock. The bodies of sky are gray, darkstone is partially gray, dark creatures are black and gray. It also represents the darkness itself sometimes.
Orange, yellow, and white represent life and the light. The flame, the comfort, the good and natural in this world. We see all the light creatures are white, yellow, and orange and glowing like the flame. It also represents energy, hence why the fallen spirits are also yellow.
Blue represents a form of energy, technology, advancements, and also a sense of calm uncertainty and potential for good or evil. We see this blue glowing in the darkstone crystals, in the eyes of the dragons and crabs, and in the base of our own flames. The ancestor spirits are also blue. They never completed life, meaning their spirits still had potential for more while they were alive.
But that brings me back the darkstone. Everywhere in Sky we see blue and gray darkstone. But in Eden? This darkstone is charged with a red plasma-like energy. A color. It absorbs energy. Its angry, aggressive, upset, and disturbed. Its the most dangerous color of them all.
