i love the avatar theory for aurora but i like to think she is a lesser god who has watched all of what had happened, hated what the ancestors had done, then saw what we do and realized the world is not so bad, and wanted to show all of us what she had seen

For reference: Skykid Little Prince (Corey Nanashi, real name Kanade Nanashi) is one of our Sky OCs, and he has a whole fic dedicated to him getting used to being a Skykid. This HC was add on hc material for Shattering, and also content for the sequel fic to the fic stated.

Personally, I don’t believe Aurora is a god in Sky; considering her only physical reference was in a mural teasing the season and how big the game is on visual storytelling, I think it feels like a retcon at best to shove her in as such a massive figure. I also think that taking the concert and every event in it literally is missing the point and overthinking it, as it was likely built more for emotional impact than to fit perfectly into Sky’s lore.

However, if you want to work the concert into canon, based on how the different parts of the concert are shown — with her using a spirit’s memory to tell it — most if not all of the concert is likely illusionary.

Working with the Nahida theory:
||Megabird used up all Its power trying to stop the war, and became AURORA. First thing She did was to give the Spirits of Light a second chance as Skykids.
Just like Lesser Lord Kusanali in the OG theory, people only talk about her predecessor, Greater Lord Rukkhadevata. This could imply that AURORA, in Sky's lore, is a powered down version of Megabird, simply a successor and lesser lord.||

Hence why in lore, AURORA can be called a Deity or a Lesser Lord, but if Megabird is dead and she is taking Its place...

Yeah! You can if you want, and I do think there’s a lot of interesting things you can do even if you make most of the concert illusionary. Like figuring out how Aurora works and was able to do that anyways. I personally favor the idea that she’s like, an avatar or manifestation of Them made for the concert if that helps you

I’m not really sure where you got the idea that Megabird is dead; we see Them descending from orbit and also while we’re inside it.

Based on our current understanding of Megabird, in fact, if They were dead, everything else would be too.

I always assumed that due to Their nature (massive conglomerate of sentient light, basically) They can’t feasibly show Themselves in the realms, so if They did come down to do things for whatever reason, They’d need an ‘avatar’ of some sort.

also, don't question Skykid TLP's name. He called himself that; Rose was a bad parent and friend and never called him by his actual first name in his backstory.
His surname is "Nanashi" because he doesn't remember a surname of his own, and if any other sources of TLP are canon, TLP is omnilingual, meaning he is fluent in all languages.
But as a Skykid, he cannot speak the Ancients' Language. Something will hold him back, his body isn't capable of it. Thanks AURORA

but still, if the Ancients' Language was the language of the Spirits, understandable that the creator of the modern Skykids would want to block that language. All to avoid a Second Calamity.
The closest thing a Modern Skykid can translate AL to is Latin, and even the sentences are nonsense.
Maybe the honks in Spirit memories are Ancient Civilization Language, hence we only hear them as chirps and we cannot comprehend what they are saying.

The spirits do talk to us multiple times though; see the hints we’re given for the enchantment quests for example. Most of the time the game paraphrases what they’re saying, possibly to avoid writing distinct dialogue or wanting to make it sound like it’s translated text (like translated for us the player to understand it) but it does happen.

Most seasonal guide quests actually involve the guide directly telling us things.

Me neither, It seems like a cruel limitation. Megabird trusts us with pushing back the darkness and saving spirits and elders; skykids at any point could choose not to, but they throw themselves into often life threatening danger over and over to help others. They’re so entrusted with that task that we’re told it’s our destiny to fulfill as soon as we complete Isle for the first time. Skykids wouldn’t build a world destroying machine and Megabird trusts us not to enough to give us basic freedoms like being able to communicate.

If you were to ask "then what are the colored lights?" it may be a rough one, but I'll say that it would be the environment. In Days of Fortune, there were colored fireworks, those fireworks are able to influence the color of the waxes and turn them into colors the fireworks have. As for Days of Rainbow... idk maybe gay magic

if it helps, I like to think all the Elders cared for their people, the ancestors – they were never cruel, seldom austere, loving their people as kin even if they were distinctively different species. the Elders had a responsibility to uphold the welfare of their people and make sure their light ascended. the ancestors, in turn, loved their Elders to varying extents, some might've been more casual but all held a reverence and respect to the Elders, seeing them not only as leaders as members of their community, their kingdom.

Oh, also, I very much think the earlier along the path an elder is placed, the more official a role as a guide or leader they had.
Later elders have more obvious jobs, almost like their role as an elder became secondary, or like they'd never intended to take up the role at all. A wise old smith is not the image that comes to mind when I think of a town's leader, for example.

... Heck, with that in mind, by the time you get to the Vault, the elder there just sets up a little thingy and has you use it yourself. That could almost be anyone in the building with enough understanding of the device being used to flip a switch.

It's my first time reaching the ending of the game and I have a lot of questions about eden, the places went from light to dark, and like every children are destined to die? then rebirth, then repeat perhaps. I also love the fact that you can't survive at the eye of eden without someone with you, and were the statues of children on the last scene were dead children, the one we are giving winged light to? idk everything about the ending was breathtaking and amazing, the krills are creepy yet they give the thrills, what's annoying are the flying rocks, it keeps on hitting me. Can the eden be like an un-evil place? because im terms of impression, when I heard the word "Eden" it's gotta be a heavenly bright place.

I think we are missing some pieces but in the way that the devs have left them out so they can elaborate more on them in future seasons/content and keep us engaged. Otherwise, I think there is a lot of information in the base game that I enjoy picking apart, and most people underestimate the amount of it.

That being said, the nature of this game’s lore does make it really hard to explain it all to a new person unless they ask for a specific type of lore — I can answer “why does Eden look like that” for instance, but I can’t tell someone everything about the lore.

Not only is there so much to explain that it would take ages and I’d still risk leaving things out, a lot of us have different interpretations, and so I’d need to include all of those. I’d also have to pick and choose what seasons to leave out if any because a lot of them are subplots and keeping them there both wouldn’t explain much and would distract from the main message. Not to mention we’re still working on figuring out things as major to the main story pre disaster timeline; although we have ideas, we don’t have a lot of evidence that gives us concrete times for things and so putting them in order can be a struggle. Unfortunately it’s just not a feasible question to answer.

I think it was like this. Beings in Sky are of a different nature than beings from Earth, but there is biodiversity somewhat like Earth life. All the living things seem to somehow consist and vitally depend on “Light” which in this lore possesses mystical life-giving and life-sustaining properties.
There was a previous intro where an ancient narrator tells of life before the Sky realm formed. Some sort of conflict occurred, leading some of the life forms to be separated or ejected from their native realm on high and descend to “the clouds” which is the plane of existence of the main game world. There were two classes of humanoids. A few large Elders, which I assume were the “fallen” beings. They led the Sky Kingdom. There are a smaller class of humanoid light beings native to the Sky realm. These smaller more mortal-seeming beings were able to multiply and have typical life cycles, while the Elders seem never to age as far as we know.

There also seem to be other regions outside the Sky Kingdom vicinity where the smaller humanoid creatures dwell, but there apparently was a tendency for them to migrate to the Kingdom, at risk of their own peril, for a better life. As far as our story is concerned, the Kingdom was the only region in the Sky realm where advanced high-tech industrialized civilization existed.
The kind of technology used in the Kingdom was based also on the mystical Light concept, but in the form of a refined natural resources obtained by mining, logging, and farming.
The humanoids exploited the natural resources irresponsibly, tipping the balance of their realm eventually to an an unsustainable degree, in order to advance their technological prowess to seemingly impossible degrees.

There were devastating ecological and civil consequences of the destruction of their natural resources and environment. Eventually the smaller humanoids had all-out war, and the Elders engaged in a desperate plot to fight fire with fire by constructing and utilizing the biggest most powerful light crystal ever. It shattered in a cataclysmic event, devastating the landscape. Whether war or this event occurred last and finally caused their extinction isn’t known.

living things in this lore have a spiritual form that resembles their living form. Even after death, the spirit remains. Due to the tragic nature of their extinction, the spirits of humanoid beings in Sky are trapped in an unnatural state of darkness. A benevolent cosmic entity creates and deploys a new class of humanoid creatures who have qualities like the Elders and like the more mortal-seeming humanoids. Sky kids are gently guided to rescue the poor trapped spirits and help them to journey onward out of the old Kingdom to rejoin The Light. Meanwhile, Sky kids go through their own heroic journey while they work out their own society and how to learn from the tragedies of the Kingdom of the past.

Wild guessing/mostly unsupported theory time: Say, what are the red crystals? Corrupted light or intense darkness? If they’re very intense darkness then what if the big crystal was originally just one huge darkstone or something. The elders would put in light so it would power whatever mechanism, but it was so big the darkness would consume some of the light, letting the darkness grow. Eventually, the darkness started leaking outside of the diamond, and the elders went in to fix the problem. All of them thought that flooding the diamond with light would more or less purify it. They were wrong, and the sharp increase in darkness made the thing explode?

Canonically, no. However you can worldbuild and headcanon your own way of how corrupting skykids would go. I have one that involves corrupted darkstone embedding in their shell and how it changes them permanently even when uncorrupted.

Every skid Carries the marks of their first eden, the final thing that extinguished them, so if they were bashed by a rock, they have a discolored section that looks like it was, well, broken/cracked by a rock and repaired. If they lost their light wading in the dark water, their feet and ankles are stained darker than the rest of them, etc

Maybe it’s just based on the last/most recent eden, so if someone goes through stormlock and comes back, they’ll have a different mark on them

I put them there because one time I got stranded in crab plains/shipwreck with no flight and got crabbed while in darkwater, if it had been post Shattering I wouldve definetly lost WL

ok, so here is my small theory, Aurora is the mother of the Sky children (which is us), who die on the battlefield, Aurora is came to cure the world but alone for her is not enough to cure, so he bring all the souls who die during the battlefield (for children will still become child light, and for adult will shrink the age and become the child light, some will be send to the Orbit, in her music we can see that she is looking for the soul or light who has the childlike soul). Sky children will be sent to the Orbit and get reborn to heal what we broken, even with the memory lost.

it's presumably a bug. it showed up in the first Performance update and was never acknowledged, but those patch notes did say they were working on a glitch that affected how stars on skykid capes looked. that glitch wasn't actually fixed (presumably the devs' attempt to fix it didn't carry over) but that attempt could've had repercussions on ancestor models with capes, hence them having stars. the stars also don't appear on official art (see this promo w/ Performance guide), so they're prob not actually there in canon.

also not every ancestor has one star. Granny/Belonging ancestor and Sanctuary guide have five stars.

there is a material called darkstone that's mined from the earth. when given light, it can hold a charge and be used to power stuff. it's more efficient form, power diamonds, were effectively batteries for the ancestors' darkstone technology such as door mechanisms, flying boats, electrical instruments, etc. we are not sure how power diamonds were made, but we know that it required light.

perhaps production was slow at first. we know some ancestors were professional light catchers or perhaps even the lightseekers, finding or gathering stray light, possibly using some of that to make power diamonds. however, demand for darkstone technology increased and the manufacturing process had to become faster and more efficient.

solution: light creatures. butterflies were caught in jars, mantas were hunted and trapped, and other creatures met their end in refineries for their light to be made into power diamonds. possibly many species of light creatures went extinct and the ones who survived were greatly reduced in number. power diamond manufacturing produced darkness pollution. this offset the balance of light & dark in the world, as evident in Golden Wasteland.

then the ancestors decided to create the big Eden diamond. we don't know why – was it supposed to be a grand power source, a monument to their dominance over nature & light, an artificial deity replacing Megabird? unclear. we know it was revered and that Chosen One was involved in its creation because of the new Eden mural.

unfortunately things went wrong. the Eden diamond corrupted somehow. by the final Shattering frozen memory, we know the Elders tried to intervene, however failed cos it blew up in their faces. theories differ whether the initial Eden calamity was followed by similar eruptions that Season of Shattering introduced or if there was one single eruption. but the Eden diamond began spewing out a deluge of darkness. eventually that killed all the ancestors.

You know the diamond we see in the last area of Eden, after we can’t turn back? It’s darkstone, which is a crystal-like material that absorbs light and uses it for power. Unfortunately, as shown in the shattering elder memory, this one exploded, killing and/or sucking in a bunch of creatures as well as the elders, and spewing out massive amounts of darkness into the world that it couldn’t handle ^^

I think it’s all about how they are made. From what I’ve seen, Sky Kids are sentient, so I think they’re more than just a personification of light itself. Their birth is weird, so it’s hard to say. These are light-based creatures, and we are carbon-based, so it is hard to understand their biology. It seems their range of age is 18-5, but maybe they manipulate their own light to change their bodies/ age, explaining the resize stuff

For clothing, hair, masks, and capes this is true, since these all disappear when we lose our light! However, since our body size does not change, it’s not a projection of light and is an innate part of our shell, whose size we can only change by consuming resize potions ^^

My point is on how light manipulation works, it is the reflective and refractive properties of changing light's direction thus creating projections and since light is always constant, the capes, hair and mask is always changeable and never aging, I just said it wrong in my last statement, your theory is correct because the body is reflective and refractive to light, but I'm not sure on why they never age, it still remains a mystery.

Although, seeing on how the skykids absorb every winged light and gains an extra star, my guess is that the winged light being of pure light energy, it slows the aging process of a skykid quite significantly, thus to allow almost near immortality to the skykids, because why else where would be adult spirits, they may have been skykids once as well since most if not all carry capes on them

Light isn’t a biological material, yet every living thing in Sky has light to some capacity. Ancestors seemed to age, skykids evidently don’t, Elders likely not either. Mantas can die, likely killed. There are bones all over the world of larger creatures, some presumably extinct.

Beings of darkness, however, seem immortal. They appear to die only by injury, as shown in the Seed of Hope’s spirit memory. Crabs being dark or light or “neutral” is debatable by nothing seems to kill them either.

Megabird is the proverbial god of Sky, a manifestation of the Light, which is a mass of all ascended beings of light within it, or the embodiment of the light cycle that moves throughout the world. Megabird takes shape as the bird-like starry galaxy we see after the end credits while descending

Chosen One is the (proto) skykid depicted in the Cave of Prophecies murals completing the Trials, thought to have become the Eden Elder or at least some revered figure, and possibly the lad in the new Eden mural beneath the Eden diamond.

After experiencing what I can with the game itself, not looking at obligatory playstation store synopsis or so on, I've been trying to get a good grip on the lore for the game. And I have been wondering if there's anything else under the sea of clouds all over the game world, or if it's one of those Atlantis-type things where everything that ended up below it by the time everyone settled above it might as well be considered a lost myth.

based of auroras concert that everything is soft inside it does show the forest caves used to be filled with water, i can totally see the citadel in valley reaching way far down. if game optimization wasn't important, i can see the realms being much more decorated with info structure which i think the clouds are for sadly, easy recharge and to take up less storage and hide stuff

plus for new players it would get confusing if the realms were giant but i can dream of what they might've look like :,)

Iirc, the concept arts have the architecture of Valley with two types, the wealthy and the non-wealthy (presumably), it could be possible that underneath the Valley clouds is still the City of Valley, just less advanced than what we actually see in Valley

I think the Storm increased the cloud cover throughout the realms. as the Eden Storm wanes, the clouds recede, unveiling new areas to us as many seasonal area entrances were once covered by clouds.

yea, I really enjoy being here, bantering and exchanging ideas, but I've been here long enough to see my fair share of concepts that utterly bewilder me and people who claim that their theories are canon despite having no evidence supporting them.

like I mentioned before, there's a common misconception that concept art is canon info but it isn't – it's concept art and a lot of what many claim from there as canon does not show up in the game at all. I think stuff that is actually found in the game is more canonical than ideas tossed around in 2013.

that doesn't meant there is no utility in concept art. for instance, it illustrates the devs' thought processes on developing things in the game and sometimes can fill in the gaps in the very vague lore. however that is something we have to decide for ourselves to factor into our theories in touch with what we see in game rather than taking concept art as the word of God.

while I say that, that doesn't mean I'm canon-chasing – for one thing, the lore is too vague to do that, and another is that even I have my own headcanons I hold dear in my heart about the game. there are some things that I disagree about with others who frequent this channel. I just make the distinction that those are headcanons, have polite agree-to-disagree moments.

there's a lot of worldbuilding available to us in Sky, I just want it to be more nuanced and dignified, the characters within it fleshed out, rather than one-dimensional and relying on clichés

Sky is different from other games – being a Sky lore theorist is like being a storyteller, having been handed a few critical points and told to construct the story for yourself. granted, there are times where we do feel like archaeologists trying to uncover the history of this long-dead kingdom and those are exciting times.

at the same time, there is a story TGC is trying to tell and that's what we're trying to figure out.

Hey lore chat, just popping in because I had to wake up at dawn but what if the time of day each elder was associated with (for that purpose, Forest counts as early afternoon) was considered auspicious to a particular activity ? Think of it, dawn for new endeavors (especially traveling), day for agricultural labor (tbh irl this litterally takes place from dawn till dusk but maybe it's auspicious to taking care of light creatures in particular), early afternoon for engineering and creating, late afternoon for games, after sunset for organizing troops who trained all day, and night when it's quietest to study (maybe that's why the Vault is so dark)...

YEAH despite boomeranging the "elders are their realm" headcanon with Salem, I think they were actually linked to the activities they represent; their realm came in after as they grew close bonds with ancestors.

Perhaps, as there's a shepherds star irl, the ancestors had a blacksmiths star or a scholars star !

Oo definitely! I Can imagine outside the game the elders constellations have distinct stars that glow brighter than the rest, maybe one star is the brightest among each constellation and that would be that elders own Shepard star in a way

Ooo maybe those stars always lead back to that elders realm, so if your Travling off the beaten path and it’s a clear sky you can follow one of the stars to get to a certain realm like the North Star irl

hey anyone ever notice how unlike the other 5, the prairie elder first puts the light you provide in their chest before applying it to a nearby tool/object? also the point in their chest it goes to is a diamond-shaped crest that looks just like the one on sky kids' default clothes?

all the elders have that crest. it makes me wonder if the elders and sky kids are connected in some way...

also worth noting, the other elders light up once their tool/object has been imbued with light. what difference does/should this make?

exhibit A: isle of dawn story intro alluding to 7 realms
exhibit B: isle of dawn temple murals in alcoves showing 6 other temples, one that looks a lot like eden
exhibit C: the light murals shown by the vault elder in their cut scene that represent all 6 realms you've traversed, but also a 7th one with a crown constellation
exhibit D: a mural in the entrance of the second area of eden (look for candles on the right) that show an unknown/unaccounted for figure atop the eden mountain who may be related to the 7th vault mural

HEY I HAVE NO CONTEXT TO THIS BUT THERE IS 100% AN EDEN ELDER. I am a little too lazy to fully type up everything conclusively, so I'm copy pasting something from another reply a short while ago

"Who is the King/Prince/Resh/Alef?

An elder by many names - they are the missing Eden elder. Some sort of prophesized ruler who could also be the same kind of creature the player is. In concept art we've seen lots of figures with star or crown shaped masks names "Prince", "King" and "Alef". Unfortunately I don't know exactly where "Resh" is from, but I'll address that in a moment. We also have these pieces in the game (at least off the top of my head):

• In the ushering stargazer, they find a little skychild who falls from the sky much like we do. Draw a few lines between the King being some sort of holy figure, us being sent down by Megabird specifically, that mass child-yeeting not happening until long after the Eden eruption, and that skychild in the memory is probably the King.

• There's effigies and images of the King and their mask all over Sky! The most notable is the twin statues in front of the Wasteland temple - almost identical to some of the concept art.

• It's a toss-up, but the white skychild before the climb to Orbit may be the King (apparently an audio cue in that is name prince or king?)

• In the final cutscene of Prophecy the King is the figure who appears in all the murals.

• In the Aurora concert, the King is most likely the child who is reaching for AURORA in Isle.

I should note, there's a lot of "he said, she said" around the king. Some of what we "know" of the king can come from Light Awaits, the pre-release of Sky. Because very little of that content remains in view, it's hard to verify. All I can say myself is I can testify the King is real and was physically present in Light Awaits."

I should note - this was a comment introducing someone to the idea of the king, not focused on nitty-gritty, solid physical evidence, that jazz. But I hope it gets the jist across, there's far better sources out there
