Yeah, I see that they attracted to sounds. That's why I thought that there's some weird mechanism in those golden spires because the creatures either comes by light or sound. The Prairie spires are lit up by candles but has constellation-type drawings that maybe convert them into a call to the mantas. Forest's spires are powered by those diamonds tho. So we can see there's difference in power source at least.
Edit:But maybe I'm overthinking it and they just want the bell sounds

About bunny (or rather rabbit) it recalls me of a little idea I had once which is sortof tied to Evolution Strategy

I once posted a picture of my outfit that made we wonder if all the creatures are either black or white

#

WHAT IF other creatures and animals had different color schemes?

#

So I wondered if a rabbit in Sky could be red like the mask or if in other colors. I also thought that Valley animals could be red-ish to blend in with the atmosphere, but I think the camouflage of their furr/feathers could be useless in other time of the dayspan

#

So I came up with the idea of a rabbit with color similar to that outfit #lore-discussion-spoilers message

A pale yellow/orange rabbit with just a little darker fluffy tail like the Stretching Guru's cape.

How would the red mask fit, you may ask? That's where the Evolution Strategy come in place : ||when in peril the rabbit either blushes stickerEmbarrassed or turns its face red to scare enemies pCrab much like crabs, but as a bluff SkyCrabwalk . In the process the pale yellow and orange + light dark tail shift closer to the outfit color scheme||

i wonder what the significance of these jars are, i've never noticed them before. they seem to be around assembly areas (unless they're in other areas and i've just never paid attention). what's interesting is that the symbol resembles a fermata, i don't know what it could represent outside of music

# split talon Can someone decode and explain to me what the latest aurora memory is about and ...

From what I can tell, story-wise it shows a mining accident that caused a troupe of miners to almost cancel their membership to the still-alive club. Thanks to some jellies though they make it out and (I assume) stop mining in the jellyfish habitat.

Lore wise though, it confirms that this was a mining facility, and given the way that the crystals jut out, with more information it could give clues on the red crystal variants in eden.

slamming this doodle in lore chat bc i think about how forest elder has a rough outside but their realm has all this angst and misery & maybe the jellyfish represent a spark of joy that's too often dismissed because it's childish and teens do not want to be children, yet it's a part of themselves they need to indulge in to heal, see how the jellyfish come as the rain stops in the boneyard

maybe the miner chases the jellyfish away like a teen would distance themselves from what would make them look childish, but later on realises these things have their own value and embracing them helps

reminds me of this quote by CS Lewis

Critics who treat adult as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.

@shrewd mango Mmm I think that symbol on the guitar(s ? Idk there was on that Anniverary one too!) was stated to be similar if not the same of a real life music symbol.

@calm jay meanwhile from my pov I think those symbol on the jars point out something about that corresponding outpost, which is near the Rainbow Clock (above the free wax bonefire in forest, it appears every time at 5:00 Pacific Day Time, if I recall correctly, and it was the first Rainbow present in game, before Days of Rainbow). So the others outposts symbol could recall the other spots somehow, for example the 1st outpost has a bridge, maybe pointing out about the catwalks on that outpost

Crab Sickness: my idea for how dark crabs came to be
Crab sickness is a strange variant of darkness sickness that had drastically different effects on the ancestors. (Note: Some we able to resist in the very early stages, thus countering the disease.)
Stage 1: The infected ancestor begins to subconsciously make crab noises, often during speech. This may sometimes come along w/ darkness particles appearing on them, though that usually happens in later stages.
Stage 2: The infected ancestor feels to compelled to enter and remain in what we refer to as shrimp posture, often getting upset when forced to leave it. Often accompanied by more crab noises.
Stage 3: The infected ancestor begins feeling compelled to walk with all limbs either on or close to the ground, still accompanied by slight increases in crab noises.(Notes: All following stages will also have this increase. Between stages 3 and 4 are where the infected is usually considered irretrievable.)
Stage 4: The infected begins to try to get themselves into a crab shape as much as they can, regardless of the harm to the themselves. Those with more corrupted minds may not be able to see this as a bad thing, but with those of strong enough will, might have realized that what they are doing is wrong, only all too late.
Stage 5: The infected begins to get so crunched into a crab shape, it is hard to recognize them as an ancestor. Do note that their mind is still intact, regardless of how corrupted it may be.
Stage 6: The infected is now completely unrecognizable. During this stage, they are petrified and killed, their spirits released from this torture despite still being tied to the petrified body.
Stage 7: Although the infected is dead, their body now has become fully petrified. This form is the dark crab we know today.
2 other things: Did crab walker have it? Maybe! Perhaps they had it but were killed in the Eden calamity!
Explains crab spirits in shards now, huh?

Ok so this is purely from my memory but after Abyss was Performance,

Performance was a Valley based season centred around theatre , most notably was quest 2 which detailed different stories that are likely tied to events/how the world works. Performance Guide is twins with Rhythm Guide (yay twin valley hc has another), and we learnt that students have more basic masks before graduating into proper masks, we also gained access behind the scenes like how the stage functions, and harmony hall, hard to explain best jsyt to explore urself!

After performance was season of shattering, which details the moments leading up to, and the exact moment of the Eden Calamity, the storytelling is a departure from the usual formula, with a new mechanic known as shard events (which according to devs were meant to be sorta here since the start) containing memories that depict the events, alongside poems that give further insight. #lore-discussion-spoilers message Here’s a link to all the poems^^

Lastly Aurora is our current season, so it’s hard to say things for certain, however it seems to be giving a lot of insight into the everyday lives of ancestors, with AURORA being a way for those stories to be told

Side note for Shattering, darkplants seems to be able to survive even without a lightsource to feed on whatever Red Shards irradiate, making those darkplants with red in place of the blue colors and not leaving any wax from burning them.

IMHO it might prove that darkplants needs two things to survive: light to feed from and a shady/darkplace (dark being even full of Darkness), maybe like a plants IRL need water and soil nutrient

My personal headcanon is that red crystal could be just light crystals (the usual blue crystals everyone call "darkstone", another kind of living light-forms) which are in pain/agony/anger once turning red and that their black phase could be the last phase (them being burnt out, scared, traumatised )

still star
#

if they feed on light, wouldn’t the captured mantas be dead? or do you mean like plants irl as well

lusty merlin
#

This is stretch but: Maybe dark plant plant biology is flipped for that, they grow in the shade or from well, darkness, but maybe the eden shards also carry darkness in a ironic way? But darkness plants also take light to grow more, maybe they keep butterflies or mantas and very slowly take particles of their light? Mantas are shown to drop light in the laughing spirits memory in prairie. Darkness plants themselves don’t hurt us so maybe they’re not like a venus flytrap type of plant, but a plant that waits for their source to come to them and they take any scraps from the main source. Maybe the giant darkness tree in santuary grew to that size because of the crabs, for for the one in forest elders temple? I know they don’t give light but maybe crabs evolved to not carry light anymore so they wouldn’t be targetedSkyShrug

boreal nebula
# still star wait if the dark plants need light to feed on, but then need a dark place, how d...

My idea is that they darkness is a good soil for them , so we see them growing in Prairie (the sunny and dark ess free realm) only in cool/shady spots (caves or shadow spots like growing mold) or near a some Darkness (like the Polluted Geyser), but since they need some kunf of light to feed they can attach to jars full of butterflies and feed themselves by induction instead of direct contact or maybe by what it is irradiated from red crystals (and maybe Assembly quests too)

But growing just by a "good soil" like red darplabts or shelves/props memory is not enough to grow a full fledged dark plant, making it devoid of light wax

untold notch
boreal nebula
#

I don't understand what you mean by "like plants irl as well". I dont think the mantas need to be dead, no, on the contrary, it needs a livibg light source to store drained light. Much like we bow see (again) butteflies freed from burnt plants, their modus operandi seems to slowly draining them for a better profit.

Plus I think this "not full fledged darkplant" part vohld explain that the Whale from the Whale call Whisperer the corpse there as a natural death, which, even for a giant prey, could be a good feeding source, cause its decomposition under the rain accelerated the process so plants are bigger tha bulbs but empty of a material energy, just the whisperer/whale spirit/soul

Just a thought, but what if red shards are just overpowered or "overcharged" rocks?
The redness are indicator of too much light absorbed into a "medium". We could tie this to the idea of the crabs and the plants getting "swept into its snare" as their poem says:
"Entranced by strange brilliance
And swept into its snare
A familiar glow that hid
Nothingness in its wake"
It's familiar because it's just an amplified version of what they needed. That's why there's red shard crabs, and seeds with too much energy that it floats (which only exists near the rocks). The Eden shard as well might have became red because of too much light that eventually exploded.

Thinking About
the trials representing different stages of the civilization theory;

First the trial of water, where you learn to respect cycles and live in tune with them; there’s a visual similar to the Eden beam at the end which disappears when you complete it
Then the trial of earth, where darkstone gets introduced & it becomes confusing which path is ā€˜correct’; the mazes remind me of mineshafts personally, and then you reach the tower at the end & wind starts blowing really hard from one direction
I can’t fully remember what happens in air so y’all might have to guide me but it has heavy themes of balance and striving upwards, as well as at the end, having the Suspicious Pillars similar to beckoning rulers island;
Then trial of fire. Everything is shrouded in intense darkness that kills you if you stay in it too long. You have to constantly stay near sources of light & push forward into it to get out. The shadows are probably representative of krill, and overall it’s much easier to win at this if you have friends (hehe thinkinf about the theme that we’re succeeding because of the community and support we have) & at the end we burst apart the shadows and complete the trials.

I’m also thinking about what this means timeline wise because that implies the Eden beam disappeared / was used as a power source fairly early on but that kinda conflicts with my current understanding of the timeline, it could just mean something else though? not necessarily that it disappeared but hmmm

cause if it DID vanish then, then also judging by the prophecy & Eden murals and then backtracking to stargazer, it implies that some spirit memories take place way earlier than the disaster — like centuries — and somehow petrified even without the presence of darkness & also no one cared about helping them out of that darkness before that happened, which is really weird

rigid mural
#

Consider this:

  • beam, constituted of ascending creatures, is used as energy source
  • ancestors start taking from the rivers of light formed by the migrating creatures feeding that beam
  • beam dissappears
  • prophecy of someone bringing the beam back
  • King tries to by using the diamond
  • boom
keen shore
#

DUDE I love the idea of the beam slowly sputtering out & going faint instead of absorbed by a diamond all at once cause I don’t think any diamond could hold the Eden beam. I also love your idea because

  • Eden beam sputtering out;
  • you now have to rely on elders only to ascend spirits
  • the elders get trapped
  • now there’s no one and nothing to ascend spirits
  • spirits are stuck on the land & we have to find and help them

snow cosmos

part of me feels like the murals have to be contemporary to the Elders because they've got their recognizable features and it's hard for me to imagine a prophecy centuries old getting the appearances of key individuals right but i could be convinced otherwise

keen shore
#

GOOD POINT we also have another detail with the krill depicted in a very ā€œdrawn exactly as it appearsā€ way instead of in basic shapes that convey the same subject, like ancestors aren’t familiar enough with them to simplify them or something
which gives us a very loose time boundary for when the murals were made; at least after the elders have been around a while, but before krills were around too long

rigid mural
#

Maybe the white ones were made soon after the elders fell (maybe they were weak and that's why they were gifted elemental powers) but the golden ones were drawn way later by the prophets we know

keen shore
#

I like the elders being weak and that’s why they were given elemental lights, soup powerup

That or a Ruler like a King of Queen (I'll default to Ruler though)

If the elders used to rule over their realms, then their realms would be considered a kingdom.
Particularly where the ancestors reside, while what's beyond them, would be the rest of the realms.

uncut pond
# snow cosmos hm this is probably going nowhere but thinking about like Eden is ever-present i...

I think you're onto something
Personally I think the visibility of Eden represents something related to the era each kingdom represents rather than the elders themselves
Or perhaps, and hear me out, it's more of a meta thing than anything, relating to you the player and what the main focus is at each point of the game
This also works in tandem with how the game deceives you making you think Eden Castle is your final objective only to make you fly past it like it never mattered during the ascension

austere bridge
keen shore
#

The era [or more accurately, the general mindset of that realm’s people, I can explain more if necessary] idea was my first thought as well! Like with Isle seeing Eden as really sacred and so it’s important to run for and save it as fast as possible, but later on you start to focus more on helping spirits & elders as well if that makes sense

uncut pond
#

Yeah I agree with that interpretation, I think multiple things can be true at the same time too, maybe Eden visibilty relates to both the era of each kingdom and at the same time the journey of the player and what their focus is at each moment of it (and the elder thing too, that's also a good interpretation)

austere bridge
#

yea! in forest and gw, your goal is to get to the end b/c ā€œthis place is dangerousā€
in vault it’s ā€œget to the topā€. in the others it’s ā€œget to the mountain.ā€ you can’t do that in vault cuz ur already there.

keen shore
#

My idea is that each realm is kinda based on the mindset that people in each consecutive era would’ve had. For instance isle still holds on tight to ancient beliefs, hence why they act like that & prophecy looks like that, but as you progress, the ancestors in each realm develop more and more
It’s less that we’re seeing snapshots from specific times because that would be really weird to work out in universe, more that the culture from those specific areas didn’t move past those times

# warm aspen Just a thought, but what if red shards are just overpowered or "overcharged" roc...

But that wouldn't explain to me why red shards vibrate only when we get close to them (they even shrink a bit as far as I can tell, even before SoShattering)

Or maybe they do absorb more light and that ... Shake and destabilize them šŸ¤” pThink SkyThink it could be also read that way, but I still cannot see why it shrinks.

Plus, Shattering introduced the blue crystals getting out of our wounds (there already were petried skids with blue crystal but only now the crystals are clearly reabsorbed in our wounds after a while) which I think is a big clue about blue crystals being light crystals and not "darkstone". Which I think sort of gave more strength to my idea of crystals being a kind of living light form.

First time I thought of that was once in Eden, when I wondered why there is a petrified skid point out as if they were trying to reach (and maybe hug/help) a big red crystal. It sortof reminded me our pose in PNR when we try to reach out something before we break

Yeah, but in those places (like near the 3 bells to summon mantas) those plants seems to prefer a shady spot, with not too much direct sunlight. There are even a couple of small bulbs of darkplants at the green ambient light docks (inside the Prairie caves, in the room where the sweatinf spirit end) but in that case (despite it being a perfect cool/dark spot) the jar from which they were sprouting are empty. This lead me to think that those jars were full of butterflies, but someone noticed and freed them to save them)

A similar cool/dark spot in a cave is found in the Underground Cave below Sunny Forest. There the jars ares still sealed and in a place without direct sunlight, so there plants grew there strong enough

You sure? I think that the Wasteland Elder got the orange from fire into the king laser turrets

Plus the orange light being the mural depicting forest could be a prophecy fortelling where the Enchantment light will end up in the future. I think that cave is called Cave of Prophecies (plural) because they had different visions and they weren't sure which one was sooner. I think the 1st vision were where the Ench Lights will be found by us (prophecy corridor). The 2nd prophecy was the creations of the Trials (the blue paninting on the main cave) while the 3rd prophecy was the final one (same murals, but with the addition of the golden child/chosen one)

The colours on the mruals, as well as thier symbols made skykids a bit confused back in the day. I am sure of it.

The inside of the cave's mural shows the lights given to the elders differ to what the ones leading up to the cave show.
The Interior shows Forest getting blue light, Day getting green/yellow light, Valley getting cyan light, and Wasteland getting Red light. (credit to Leon for the image #lore-discussion-spoilers message)
(and the final mural image credit to Tritto #lore-discussion-spoilers message)

While the murals leading up to the cave entrance shows the same four lights in areas that presumably resemble Day, forest, Valley and Wastes. Although there were debates on the trees being that of forest, and yet blue and red light are shown near them. That and the floating islands would imply Day, if not another realm such as Dawn or Valley. Not to mention the hills of green light being likely day, even though it is not obvious.
(forgot to add these mural images, though see this message link from Spooky Kreb: #lore-discussion-spoilers message)

Mmm since they and sky kids are different species idk... They could already have some features and refined when landing. Sortof like in Steven Universe gems have a predefined form, but can shapeshift into what is in their tastes.

Since Valley Elders are the more childish I could thing all of them having the same sort of suits but only those two kept that form. Meanwhile all others got fascinated by different trends of sky fashion. Further more, since Valley were supposed to be a giant mostly like others, by splitting they become half of what they used to be as a whole

Their appearance in Orbit is the same as any other encounter with them.

There has not been an encounter, cutscene or interaction with an elder in spirit form currently in Sky.
Ergo, the elders are either alive, or there is another reason why the elders are not translucent blue ghosts.

Red - Void - controls darkness and its ability to ā€˜consume/release’ things. Imagine darkness like a Venus flytrap; red light can influence its opening and closing, releasing things it already consumed. This is how it brought back the Ark’s murals; darkness had consumed and destroyed them, and Nodding Muralist used it to bring them back. Related to the trait of Tradition
Orange - Fire - controls and brings flame, especially in relation to the flames/inner light of creatures; hence why it summoned light creatures for the ark. Related to the trait of Courage
[Yellow is the color of general, non elemental light.]
Green - Earth - controls rocks, plants, & is also related to light creatures, similar to Fire. I still have to work out how this final relationship works, so keep that in mind. Related to the trait of Tenacity;
Cyan - Air - basically what it says on the passage. Controls air & air currents, makes things float, and presumably can create things like vacuums as well, but we don’t know for sure. Related to the trait of Balance
Blue - Water - controls & purifies water, can bring rain. Related to the trait of Patience
Purple - Mind - can manifest tangible constructs out of light, like how it created the tents in the ark; may also be related to telekinesis [still playing around with this idea] Related to the trait of Creativity

I’m also playing around with the idea that each colored light can have ā€˜specialties’. As in, a colored light user can choose to specialize in which way they use the colored light; for example either using green light to control rocks or plants

Calling the ancestors primitive before the arrival of the chosen one seems really unfair and incorrect, given how much of the civilization we can see & how well organized we can tell it was. Especially given that the kingdom doesn’t seem like it lasted for very long; ie. The civilization was around a long time before it became one.

I mean, look at Valley. Look at Prairie. Isle, even — why would you call the creators of all that architecture and art primitive?

#

Even without all that, Civilizations & the people in them can be intelligent and developed without the use of much advanced technology. Isle almost entirely shuns darkstone, but has beautiful murals, and as we see in Prophecy and possibly Enchantment, a complex culture with heavy focuses on light magic and appreciation of natural forces. Calling people primitive and childlike because they don’t fit your typical idea of what a civilization is is :| & unfortunately, has had many repercussions throughout history

I think it represented the megabird and light creatures much more, you can still see some remnants on the Isle murals and in the Wind Paths. The prairie is also geared towards taking care of light creatures too, see the manta murals in bird nest !

The king being similar to elders or ancestors could have redirected that worship from light creatures to things shaped like ancestors because they are closer.
Kinda how we went from worshipping mountains and storms, to worshipping a lord of the mountain and storms, to worshipping a lord (origin story of the monotheistic god).

keen shore
#

I personally think the chosen one fell too late to really influence religion, althouh I’m up to interpretation on that topic. I think there would be a semi organized Megabird religion but not in the way we think of it; everyone just kinda knew they existed and accepted their existence. Given the way I think they work I don’t think prayers to Megabird would’ve done much

If I remember correctly from the Tom Zhao Concept art, I'm pretty sure it was mentioned that overtime the King supplanted worship of the Megabird with himself (as was supposed to be evident by the statues in wasteland & the recurring diamond motif in the architecture). Personally I don't fully agree with the notion that The One is a figure that appeared that late in civilization
I believe that if we take into consideration the theory of two cataclysms, first the stars falling and second the Eden explosion, I think One would've appeared right during the first, and after them the rest of the elders, and civilization lasted for a good while afterwards before the giant diamond happened

That said, civilization would've had a lot of time to develop before their arrival, and thus wouldn't have been "primitive" by any means

I don't think there's any known culture including ones from the past I would call primitive, even cavemen had art and most likely had their own belief systems even if arguably not as developed as the ones that came after (even if by certain definitions of the word they are primitive, not that I agree with those definitions)

It began using this poem from the shattering teaser [https://www.thatskygame.com/news/shards-of-the-past-arrive-in-season-of-shattering] as an source.

The wounds of the past are never far from sight. The light around us is in constant motion. Who could not see it? Who could not feel the joy of its movement? Once, we guided the migrating flocks. Once, behemoths flew alongside us in peace. And then we took the light from the wind. The behemoths that remained were only the monuments to ourselves. Our cities shone with a captive glow. We were enraptured as we taught our machines to bind and hoard. The world of the present can be healed, but our past cannot be undone. Jagged remnants lie in our wake, and even for the mountain it is too much to hold.

& my interpretation:
Okay so this poem kinda implies the idea that the diamond is exploding again because it’s full of [traumatic] light memories, and since light wants to merge with itself, it forces itself outwards, overloading the diamond & forcing it to shatter further;
Presumably this is either because it’s on top of the Eden beam or because of all the light it’s sucked in after its first explosion. Probably more so the second, although the first can be true to some extent as well, it would just be a lot more general/uncoded light ie — not the kind of light that would form memories
[originally this discussion started on shattering shards but then got linked back to the disaster]

#

& my fully thought out explaantion on how that’d work

Basically

  • all creatures, incl ancestors, elders, skykids, are made of light to some degree
  • diamond constantly sucks in that light
  • light that still remembers what it belonged to originally petrifies in the shape of its original owner, like an imprint, before tearing apart; hence the memories
  • however, it is still a lot of light, some of which still has disjointed and numerous memories & personalities attached to it, and light always wants to merge with itself. So it begins to push at the edges of the diamond, trying to merge with the beam outside, until it succeeds and tears it apart from the inside out, hence shards
  • however, due to the diamonds nature, this light torn away creates a vacuum; & so it has to suck in more, which then forces its way out as well. creating a constant cycle of shards & then the vacuum they leave behind

Slink also compared the Storm to an accretion disk which is the cloud/circle of smoke you see around the image below —

accretion disks are a disklike flow of gas, plasma, dust, or particles around any astronomical object in which the material orbiting in the gravitational field of the object loses energy and angular momentum as it slowly spirals inward.

For what it is worth mentioning. We know that some areas seen from a distance beyond the current area in the game (called imposters if I recall correctly) may differ from the actual location.

We can see this in Day Village looking at the Butterfly Field, or more notably, the Dream Village (or lack thereof) seen from the race leading into the coliseum.

While it is a stretch, if not an unreliable theory, the eden seen from various realms may possibly be imposters that do not match each other while devs worked on the realms.

keen shore
#

So if the Eden Diamond is a black hole & the beam is a quasar, & the Storm is an accretion disk, what does this mean beyond visual inspirations?

Well, first and most importantly, it means the Eden Diamond is almost definitely powering the beam by sucking in all the light around it and spitting it out into the beam, as opposed to it being placed on top to absorb it.
The beam is coming from the Diamond and is the direct result of it sucking everything in.

AND IT CONTINUES! If the beam is coming from the diamond, but the diamond wasn’t always there or like that, then how did the beam first exist?

This ventures into kinda headcanon territory, but it can be reasonably backed up with prophecy murals, so here’s the current explanation I (and i think Vela as well) am running with;
Before everything started going haywire, light flowed through the world like rivers. In the form of creatures, streams of light in the sky and under the earth, and just as a natural cycle, but with the same result; its goal was always to head towards Eden, where it would get sent back up to Megabird as part of a massive, universe wide, equivalent of a circulatory system.

However, when ancestors started using light to power things like darkstone, those rivers started running dry. The Eden beam weakened, & then sputtered out, but without it, no creatures could ascend, and ancestors relied on elders to ascend them. So the lack of beam was a problem that needed to be fixed

And, much later, that fix would be the Diamond

sharp lichen
#

An interesting fact: Gamma Ray Bursts are gigantic energy blasts that occur when large stars collapse into black holes.

Possible related is shard eruptions?

lusty merlin
keen shore
#

Of course, this leads to the implication that the diamond was corrupted on purpose (likely using red light* in order to suck in light & spew it out into the Beam. You could also think of it like a lens if you wanted, but due to its size, the mechanics of light, its location, and the fact that every living being relies on light to stay alive that didn’t work as well as everyone had hoped, especially when it started running out of its original andplanned power source much sooner than everuone was expecting…

nimble ingot
#

Pondering a naive question.
If a black hole is so dense, the gravity it generates is so strong, not even light would be able to escape. In every black hole, it has a singularity.
A singularity would therefore be the supposed core of a black hole, a point where all the mass goes.

The question is, where would all of that mass go?
It has to go somewhere, even if it is condensed into infinity.

This might be what gave folks like Einstein and Hawking the though of what if the mass ends up in a different place.
In simple terms, a black hole is a hole in the ground that digs deeper and deeper, until it becomes a tunnel. A wormhole. Or a white hole that spits out what the linked black hole swallowed.

Currently, with this line of thought, we have two series of events for how the disaster might’ve played out, pick your favorite

1] shattering q6 is when the diamond was initially corrupted on purpose using red light. It went bad instantly
2] shattering q6 happened a while after the diamond was purposefully corrupted & was the elders trying to transfer some of their light in to ā€œfeedā€ it. They weren’t expecting the initial power source they put in it to run out this early, and so were caught off guard when the diamond started sucking things in when it wasn’t supposed to; unfortunately, this meant they were already too late & as soon as they got there and tried to fix it…

Interestingly, when skykids are reborn, one may theorise that the skykids in mind and soul is the same, being they keep their memories and experience, but their bodies are not the same.
One may go as far to say it is similar to reincarnation, or possibly related to the Egg Theory.

What if all of the skykids in the realms are pieces of but 1 entity. Where each skykid living out their lives are in fact living out past lives, as well as lives some of these skykids have not yet experienced. Being each time a skykids is reborn, their journey to enlightenment has begun. They joined the cycle.

I would like to mention Vela as the one who suggested the theory originally, and who I would give credit to for having the idea.

DISCLAIMER: These ideas/interpretations is from what I know so far. Some may be farfetched because I lack knowledge somewhere. May i know your thoughts on this?
*I really think the use of the colors of light are very crucial to the creation (and destruction) of the world of Sky. So far, I can include three timelines where the power of lights are used: Prophecies(creation & possible future), Enchantment(maybe after the war) and Aurora(before or during technology advances)
Blue(Water):
Elder Era: Life, Purity
Trials:Patience
Aurora: Liberation, Discovery (of Self & World)
Based on murals, it's used by Rain and once dwelled on an island(probably Isle of Dawn). It now dwells on valley maybe bc the water is preserved as ice on the mountains uncontaminated. The mural also hinted it could relate to creation of light creatures which mainly flourish on pure waters(exception on Forest temple)

Green(Earth):
Elder Era: Medium, Home
Trials: Vitality, Stamina
Aurora: Solidarity, Friendship
Used by Day to make flora. Murals kinda hinted that its also used to make the temples and probably all the structures.

Cyan(Air)
Elder Era: Flight, Freedom
Trials: Balance
Aurora: Love/Passion(?)
Used by the Twins to make the floating rings. It now chills in the clouds at Prairie. The power was basically the power of flight. Even the ark & boats' fins/flaps move by this power. It clears the paths so light will know where to go.

Orange(Fire):
Elder era: Warmth, Presence
Trials: Courage, Strength
Aurora: Hope(like duh)
There's a mural hint that it once burned a portion of Forest (before temple). And maybe Rain used the Blue light to heal it (or just coz she angsty lol). The light creatures in front of Forest temple may have survived because it cancels the polluted water.

Yellow (Light)
Pure, raw light. Can probably do everything. Potential. Innocence.

#

Purple(Star)
Starlight Valley: Night, Peace, Reality
Enchantment: Mind, Memories, Dreams
The symbol used is the diamond (stars). I haven't seen a mural but it could mean the red and purple light were discovered later after the prophecy has been done(or when the kingdom is established and the power of stars are studied). Idk, it's like the colder version of the light. Thoughts?

Red (Desire):
Elder Era pre-explosion: Truth, Power Elder Era post-explosion: Darkness or Desire of light.

The symbol used looks like the Storm(either Eden or GW)
I used DESIRE instead of ABSENCE because I think the redness of these "mediums" that carries light comes from too much light accumulated in it. Like a star wanting to eat the light(uncontrollably)
Maybe, the initial look of these mediums are the rocks that kills you in the storm at Eden. Eventually, they glow red with the amount of light they absorbed. Even the "darkstone" could be the same (look at the Eden shard)

#

Examples:
-The red shards that absorbs light when you get close to them;
-the red blooms and seeds (they could be made from wax cuz you "Melt" them) overflowing with power that they fly and grow around the red rocks only;
-the hostile crabs that attacks you maybe just wants to absorb your light. and when they gathered too much they grow red shards, too.
-The creatures from fire trial probably have the same connotation so they seek even your only light. Only when a more powerful version of light, Courage (orange light) is given to you, then you can fight. Even the Krills (which i think is their progeny) have bluish eyes and only when they see you- they glow red.
-This could explain why the Eden shard shattered. They couldn't contain all the light accumulated because the medium (King's) lost control of the lights it is sending to heaven. Idk if the war happened before or after the shattering. If it's before, then it could mean the elders were trying to fix the shard. If it's after maybe they're trying to use it against the dark creatures. Regardless, I think it's obvious that the Eden shard had too much (whatever way it is) that's why it exploded and flung the apex of the castle to space.

I know I still have a lot to learn but I hope you'll correct me again if I said something wrong SkyHug

I need answers about vault! Vault is, to me, the most confusing realm in sky. Here are some of my thoughts and questions on the vault, I'd like to here your opinions.

  • what is actually stored in the vault, we see these diamond shaped objects but what do they actually do?
-is the vault simulated? Starlight desert should not be able to exist and the whole archive area where the purple light usually is is also very artificial and weird
-how is it night time indoors? We know it's not the sky thanks to the fate outline of the walls. Also it reminds me of the fake sky in Alterna Splatoon 3
  • why are cosmic mantas only found in vault
-what is the big Manta almagamation near the end of vault. It doesn't look like any Manta outside vault and my friend said that it may split to become the mantas who help the player up to the final section of vault.
-why are there holographic lanterns and how to we light fire to them?
  • I may be wrong but why is vault the only place where magic is seen to be used. Like levitating
-why is there a giant table in vault?
  • why is there sand everywhere in vault? It's seems like a safety hazard in my opinion. The first floor could be excused by being near the starlight desert but that doesn't excuse the levels above.
-Why a desert? Who decided that it was a good idea to make a false desert and fill it with giant objects? Is the desert a glitch?
-for a vault it doesn't seem very secure anyone with a candle can enter majority of the vault and a group of four isn't very hard to come by so pretty much anybody can access every room of this so-called "Vault"
-followingbthis last point. Is the vault really a vault? Could it be a school? Considering it is called the vault of knowledge and we do see in some memories that they taught ancestors telekinesis there.
-also this technically applies to all realms, but why are there candles everywhere and who is moving them around(candle cakes and seasonal candles)?
compact shale
# ebon wind I need answers about vault! Vault is, to me, the most confusing realm in sky. He...

Oooh, answer speedrun! Let's see...

  1. Knowledge stored in memory cubes, as you can see in these pictures. Unfortunately, we can't open them... yet.
  2. It's thought to be a dreamscape or an illusion, possibly projected by one of the major diamonds, such as the one you see in the elevator. The purple light is associated with keeping secrets and illusions, which ties in to the entire Vault.
  3. Again, dreamscape/illusion. Whoever created it can do whatever they want.
  4. It's theorized they're actually artificial creations made from memories.
  5. No idea, might be another iteration of the memory creatures idea.
  6. The holographic lanterns are probably from memories. I suppose we're able to light them because that's how they'd work if they were tangible.
  7. It's also used in the Season of Enchantment, which is in Golden Wasteland. Do the quests and you'll see some magic be used.
  8. The ancestors were taller than us. Sure, child ancestors are shorter, but they're about the height of a tall skykid.
  9. There's a theory/concept that the Vault's floors represent the previous 5 realms, so the sand in the first floor represents the Isle of Dawn.
  10. Isle symbolism, not so sure about in-universe though.
  11. At least some of the Vault's mechanisms were made for the ancestors and not us. Candle-carrying ancestors may not have been as common back then.
  12. Maybe...? There are spirits called "Polite Scholar" and "Shushing Light Scholar" in the Vault, but it seems to be for the older ancestors. It may also serve as a library, or the elders' meeting room (the top floor, at least).
  13. The ancestors might have had them around for rituals or things like that. As for the seasonal candles, no one really questions that because we just accept it as "just gameplay" and nothing more.

Cool thanks for the insights a couple of them I had ideas for and just wanted to see what the community had already come up with before I came on a solid decision particularly the memory cubes
The table I'm still not sure about as the spirits we interact with are all too short for the table except the elders. The ancestors are tall than us but the table would still be pretty high even for them

Could it be a malfunction with the simulation of vault?

warm aspen
# ebon wind I need answers about vault! Vault is, to me, the most confusing realm in sky. He...

I have an idea that the Vault of knowledge is so high that we see the stars like how we see the night rather than inside an atmosphere. Maybe the top of the vault is exposed in the bare outer space after the Eden shard exploded that why the summit shows night sky. COSMIC creatures also dwell on those which isn't on the murals nor outside any realms. The altitude is unknown because we see cutscenes when we ascend so I'm also not sure.
My thoughts on the whole starlight dessert is toed to the purple lights power, which is a perfect recreation of things from memories (season of enchantment). I see the whole thing as a recreation of Little Prince's memories when he visited Sky. That's the only hint i see where the Purple light is applied. Like, the whole sky is purple šŸ˜†

Do you mean the one in Boneyard? Some theories suggest that it is a small whale that has died to "unnatural causes" (when Light Creatures die to unnatural causes, their bones get left behind if I am not mistaken)

untold notch

natural causes are things like old age and I think unnatural causes would be like. getting stabificated or something

I'm not sure which cause getting crushed by a boulder is tho

boreal nebula
#

On the contrary my main thought would be that that whale died of natural cause. Cause the dark plants on have captured nothing but the memory of that Manta Call instead of capturing lights/wax like in most of the cases. The usual dark plants can free both wax and butterflies, so if they can collect all that wax/ligth just from small light creatures like those then I would imagine a living whale could feed them with much more wax and even let them grown more than just a couple of spiked leaves

@sand frigate that being said, here is Lorechat we mostly deal on theories with small evidence and canon, so if you have a different point of view you are free to share

It's a whale, if you get a closer look at a whale, either in Underground Cave (the place below Sunny Forest, where there's Aurora 2nd Quest) or during the Flight in Eden Castle, they have that sort of shell/skull which se can see there in the Forest Boneyard or inside the corresponding Memory Void

PLUS, if you look closer, that skull is exactly the same as the golden mask we can get from Fainting Warrior spirit or (more notably) on Wasteland Elder's face! Maybe a symbol of might (as seen in smashing a whole bell tower in Eden Flight)

# untold notch or would it be natural because it's an accident? hm

# untold notch or would it be natural because it's an accident? hm

Anything unnatural would be something that causes the animal to decompose weird. If we go by a little bit of real-world logic the main cause of wired decomposition would be poisons and pathogens right? But unnatural death could refer to dying before they're time to be reborn so when a whale gets hit on the head with a boulder it won't be able to return to the stars like it normally would. Classifying it as an unnatural death. Because it's never really stated what is classified as a natural death all we can really do is speculate

frigid tinsel

Interesting to note that the manta the krill eats in Wasteland’s broken temple dissipates and doesn’t leave remains, so predation from corrupted dark creatures do not count as an unnatural death.

But then when they added/changed the number of cakes/czndles i thought the souls /lives were less likely to be a reason of how many souls there were in a Realm.

Pretty sure Catlem posted the theory of krills being the disjointed, practically skeletal corpses of mantas after being 'squeezed of light' for darkstone production. I think there was a previously collective-made theory that elder creatures are born from light creatures absorbing smaller light creatures to make one large one (like a willingful hivemind). With that logic, Catlem concluded that the same thing probably happened with the light-drained mantas, only they were desperate and in need of more light, hence conjoining to try conserve the little light they still had inside them and making the krill we know today. Not really relative, but just a fun thought for brain food

The leviathan may be the only 'naturally' dark creature we see, as it has little resemblance to the krill and is massive in size compared to them. It also could have been an artificially made creature, as Treasure Reef seems to be an abandoned and flooded research facility, with the mural on the wall on what seems to be the sunken remains of the facility (where the two test containers of mantas are held/used to be held)

boreal nebula
warm aspen
slim plume
#

I feel like cosmic mantas are the result of a singular manta having enough light to sustain themselves without feeling a need to restore it despite the abnormal loss. Perhaps they were taken to the Vault to study, or maybe to try and restore their condition to stop the krill population from growing? Idk just spit-balling whatever comes to mind SkyLOL

The size of the leviathan is practically nothing like we've ever seen before in-game. The conclusion to it being artificially made can be easily drawn upon (after all, it's unlikely something that big could grow naturally), although if you go with the 'natural' dark creature (or something akin to that) then perhaps its dark environment made it grow either exponentially or abnormally

I'd imagine the process of light creatures to krill being quite horrific.
Especially with my headcanon that during the process the body(not the creature itself more like a reflex) would be desperately trying to regain light and keep itself together

slim plume
#

I'd imagine that the first time it happened it probably would have been in Wasteland (perhaps it was a dumping ground for the corpses during the height of the kingdom's darkstone production) and the Elder there would just be like: "Rain, we did an oopsie- sqwarlockDed"

ebon wind
#

That also helps move on to the fact that dark creatures seem to seek out light but cannot actually take it in. Dark plants absorb the light when we burn them but it makes them poof so perhaps once dark creatures and things search for light as a way to regain their old forms but are unable to keep the light due to their unfavorable form which allows them to absorb light but not store it and thus combusting(dark plants), flipping(crabs) or regect the light entirely(krill and crabs)

Considering it now as an intentional thing, ancestors couldn’t ascend after the beam disappeared, so beings that could ascend them manually were sent

When you got raging wildfires for a while followed by intense rains, the terrain is so dry it just slides away. It's even more intense in areas rendered bare by deforestation, because trees that could slow down the flow are no more.
I think those landslides caused numerous spirits to be stuck in some places and dying; see Tearful Light Miner's memory where they are caught in a cave-in that I headcanon wouldn't have happened without the landslides, as well as how the boneyard seems to be sinking. Perhaps the ground was unstable to start with (like with bogs and mangroves, which some tree roots in the area are reminescent of)...

Hey, I know this answer is late. Was too tired to respond earlier but there’s a few reasons why deep calling can flip crabs but not affect krill;

  1. krills are too big or powerful, meaning larger or more powerful crabs would be immune [which is one of the reasons you suggested]
  2. crabs have a unique biology/origin that allows for this. for example, I’ve been kicking around an idea that they’re corrupted jellyfish; jellyfish always honk back when you deep call, so it might be an instinctual reaction on the crab’s end because of that.
  3. it’s based more on amount of darkness present within the creature than size. We have enough light to overpower a normal crab, but not enough to overpower a shard crab or krill.

We don’t completely know which one is the canon reason, as crab biology is left pretty up to interpretation, so you can pick whichever one you’d prefer.

Just because it's a bit strange to call the dark creature crabs instead of just crabs or dark crabs. Perhaps the dark creature part is separate to the crab and it's actually some sort of dark parasite than infects crabs(could mean the crystals on shard crabs are just parasitic growths)

#

However corrupted Kelly's could work, because they are found in areas where jellyfish are found(sanctuary) and the light draining process might dry out a jelly causing it to become more solid explaining the crabs stone-like appearance.

I assumed that krills were mantas drained of light, so during the draining process their bodies instinctively try to absorb light resulting in the distortion of the mantas body. Once the body of the Manta is distorted enough it can no longer store light within itself but still longs to have light within it losing its gentle nature it seems out light beings to gain light however because it's body cannot store light the krill sort of knock it out of the light being as the light is repulsed by the krills less than ideal form. But that's just a headcanon

If you look up what a regular irl krill looks like, they’re colored like a light creature so I initially assumed they were indeed supposed to be a species that was completely ā€œlostā€ in a way, but I believe the name krill was fan given so I’m not sure how true this theory holds

I just had a thought I wanted to share— are there any other Skykids who’ve been fans of Aurora since before time itself and are also disappointed Sky didn’t implement her song ā€œThe Riverā€ into this season??? Sorry if this isn’t allowed here plz feel free to remove my message! The river is such a beautiful emotional song that would have fit Sky impeccably

# tribal dagger I just had a thought I wanted to share— are there any other Skykids who’ve been ...

As a (not so old) Aurora fan most of her songs fit themes in Sky imo (environmental, the importance of community, spiritual ascension and child-like wonder). I would have loved to hear Heathens, The Storm, or Through the Eyes of a Child in the game, but I'm satisfied with the songs they picked for the quests (I've always related Runaway with Sky ^-^). As for The River, I think I haven't listened that one, I gotta check it out now!

What do you think it's the meaning of corrupted creature in Sky?
A) completely tranformed (revolutionary changes of appearence, aka Whale ā© Krill)
B) partially transformed (little apperance changes making krill just more edgy and spiky)
C) character alteration (on a scale from peaceful crabs ||like 2 in Sanctuary and 4 in Wasteland Bonefire|| to red crabs ||from Shards Landing|| normal crabs are in the middle, corrupted by dust)

keen shore
#

First one but even more so, manta conglomerate to krill

boreal nebula

I think the Shards and Shattering might be pointing on that direction

I know Cackling Crab is an easter egg, but I wonder if krills could be peaceful or at least were more peaceful (even if a predator) like Angler's memory might suggest.

And IF red crystals is a corruption level 2 in crabs, WHAT IF a ||Red Crystall Krill will appears later||?

Hey guys so I had a thought. Only the hostile Crabs have dark dust on them. The Graveyard Bonfire Crabs and the ones near the turtle in Sanctuary are friendly. The Krills have that same dark dust, and my Japanese friend raised an interesting point when I pointed it out to her. She said 'Maybe when the dust is gone we can get along with them.' That got me thinking that the dark dust is what's making them hostile. The rideable Krills in the Cackling Crab don't have the dark dust, instead they have a blue tint.

# earnest briar Hey guys so I had a thought. Only the hostile Crabs have dark dust on them. The ...

Indeed that what is my main theory about corruption, maybe just the dust or red crystals corrupt their behaviours and not a corruption which change a whale into a gore krill

But anyway, it was not something suspicion as you said introduced by Shattering, the Friendly Crabs near the turtle islands are present since Sanctuary/Prophecy (I got introduced by their behaviour around Prophecy, but it could be present even in their season of debut).

A little change was introduced with the last alterarion of the Graveyard Bonefire, only now those crabs can be freed and are friendly with emotes too šŸ’ž . When the Bonefire was introduced was just a shish kebab of crabs (with white eyes too, but not animated, so it looked abit gore, they seemed alive despite they were clearly pierced) and it gave no wax, when it was updated into a free wax farming there was just one free crab, friendly.

So I guess Devs had in mind from a long time to make them friendly without that dust on, it was probably a matter of animation, delayed along the seasons/updates. But if we put crabs on the fire during Sanctuary (and even now) they don't seems to heal, they simply get angry. But again, this could be a matter of lacking the time and effort to animated this behaviour/game mechanics

# rigid locust Het has anyone ever wondered why skykids never open their eyes without their mas...

I had a thought that, since skykids mimic so much, they might be mimicking yet misunderstanding their first encounter with Dawn Elder. In Dawn’s cutscene, they have a ruined mask and their eyes are closed. Only when they reassemble their mask does Dawn open their eyes. Perhaps skykids saw this and thought that it was custom to keep ones eyes closed when maskless or wearing a broken mask. Only when they discovered the Abyss scavengers and got their broken masks was that belief in skykid culture challenged.
Additionally they may not need visual sight to navigate. No, I doubt they are blind, as Baud earlier linked my explanation dismantling that assumption. Rather skykids may have echolocation that supplements their senses — see how deep calling can outline things in dark places or honking shows us the location of lights SkyCall and our friends. Their echolocation must be strong enough for maskless skykids to decide to forgo their sight entirely by keeping their eyes closed.

I really like that explanation Alasdair pWow

I also like to imagine that their connection to the Light is like a sixth sense of sorts, hence why they can ā€˜see’ other sky children with their calls, along with the locations of lights, and the direction forward SkyCall. In the past, you used to be able to see everyone with calls, but they changed it to only friends and acquaintances due to strangers abusing the ability. stickerGloomy
I like to imagine that, aside from other children, sky kids can also sense the presence of light creatures this way too, so no matter how frightening the world can be, they know they’re never truly alone. SkyHighFive pManta

rigid mural
#

Aww that's so sweet ! I like to think this is because Light symbolises connection, so light creatures, fellow skykids and spirits are the easiest to spot and recognise for that reason !
I had an idea of messenger birds that kinda used that idea too, they would trade light with eachother so if they get separated from their flock, they would always know where they are with a call (fun fact, migrating birds are noisy and answer eachother's calls for that reason). An ancestor or skykid could trade light with that bird and teach it to consider them its flock so that it would fly back to them when separated ! That way, someone could carry their friend's bird around to send them a message whenever since the bird will look for them.
