Wait I've a theory... What if!
The 2 factions started the war right? They fought a lot but in the middle of it the krills started rising and killing everyone they met on their path... Basically forcing the 2 factions to work together and develop better weapons to fight the new enemy. Eventually tho they got defeated by the dark dragons and the elder was defeated as well leading to their death.

Most likely, yes, and it doesn’t seem like a leap to assume skykids can be corrupted bc every other light being can. However, since exact details aren’t shown in game, interpretations vary on how it works from person to person ( @frigid tinsel has great corrupted skykid lore)

Theoretically skykids could eat dark plants to purge them if their inner light/flame is enough to burn them externally, why not internally. Though with the dark plant cosmetics (mask, hair accessory, cape), it could imply that there are instances where skykids’ flames are not enough to stop dark plants.
It may not necessarily indicate corruption but rather a sort of parasitism.
Or you could take those cosmetics as skykids mimicking the appearance of dark plants out of light projections like all their cosmetics but, yknow, if you want an alternative suggestion.
Likewise
There’s a thought that ancestors could contract “darkness sickness,” or darkness plants that grow off of them. Known or suspected ancestors who had this include Rejecting Voyager, Slumbering Shipwright, and the bald spirit in Tearful Light Miner’s spirit memories.

The darkness plant accessories we get this season can imply that skykids can also get darkness sickness.

While we're waiting for Alasdair to get their power up I've got a question, is eating and drinking necessary for sky kids? Cause in the game you can't really find food to eat besides the one you get from cosmetics, and you aren't actively invited to do so, so I'm assuming that sky kids can eat but just if desired to, not because it's a need, they could go all their life without eating a single thing and nothing would change about them but I feel like asking it since I'm relatively new to sky lore

OOOOH, mine are trying to prevent the merge too, since two cores are trying to gain control at once, it leds to misplaced memory/loss, amensia, etc. One of the cores is the eldest but can't see since it's not the original vessel (they've take out an eye of the original vessel) so they rely on memory to "see"
That's what I've got so far, the younger core is trying rebirth while the eldest refuses, wether they may merge or not is fully undecided

that's really interesting. I find it quite neat how, in regards to memory, the opposite are actually happening with Kiset & Hikemasu – while their lights are merging, they recall things that had happened to the other's past. they also feel each other's feelings and emotions. they start confusing themselves with each other, are unsure who experienced what, their identities are confused. this worsens by the fact that they have spent almost two years in the same body, so Kiset experiences everything that happens to Hikemasu and feels like their own, even though they are in Hikeymasu's body.

when their souls ultimately do finally merge, the person they become – Maslon – feels everything that had happened to the two as their own, though aware that those experiences belonged to those two. Maslon's personality is also a merge between what Kiset & Hikemasu were.

this all considers the thought that light in Sky is encoded with memory and selfhood. every being of light's soul is also light – whatever happens to their light affects one's personality, identity, and memory.

YEAH I LOVE THIS IDEA BECAUSE IT GIVES A MEANING TO THE CYCLE;
Light sent down to the kingdom to experience life, bringing back what they learned to the stars.

It's also kinda how I rationalize the possibility of light creatures preying on other light creatures (Angler character card mentions they fish), ultimately the end goal atop the mountain is the same, but perhaps larger creatures are that big because they amassed more light somehow. Smaller creatures would flee in an effort for the memories in their body to last a big longer before fusing with light.

this is a dialogue I wrote musing on the idea. here Hikemasu (H) has just told their friend Vuxor (V) about their predicament

V: if it’s so difficult having Kiset inside you, why not just let them go?
H: I can’t let them go.
V: you won’t.
H: I won’t. I can’t. Both – we’ve been… like this for too long, so long. I can’t always distinguish between my light and Kiset’s light. We’re not one in the same but if I’m not careful and let our lights merge, I don’t think there would be much distinction between Kiset and Hikemasu anymore.
V: hmm. So you’re stuck like this?
H: somewhat. Rain told me that if I were to ascend, Megabird could pull Kiset out of my inner light. It’s happened before – light creatures consuming each other, ancestors absorbing spirits’ light to survive precarious situations. That’s what the Tearful Light Miner did for their companions, sheltering the spirits’ light within them after they died. It doesn’t matter what happens to the light. What’s most important is that it ascends to the Light. There, Megabird could and has separated merged beings of light no matter how long they’ve been together.

it's not that the individual doesn't matter, it's just what is more important is that their light ascends to the Light. their light has their memories and experiences, which matters the most to Megabird/the Light

I think that's what I was going with as well, not sure if I explained it well, the vessel is younger so they have experienced memories of things far ahead of the second core, while the second core has lived for thousands of years without rebirth, even when the cores sees the memory of the Prairie fields from the vessel, somewhere they haven't been to in hundred of years, it almost considers rebirthing (which is why they need to control the vessel, their body will eventually become faded/weak which is why it went to look for a host)

that does sound close to what's happening with Hikemasu & Kiset. they're within one vessel, Hikemasu's body, so Hikemasu has natal control over it. however since Kiset's inner light is merging with Hikey's, Kiset does have some influence over Hikemasu's body and what they can say. there's no time difference though since Kiset & Hikemasu are part of the Original Eight, so they're the same age.

rebirth can separate the two into fresh bodies, which is why Hikemasu has avoided Eden. they don't want Kiset to be free.

I can't explain into detail how Shams (the core) & Badir(the vessel) merged but it did leave a gnarly scar on the face of where the eye is supposed to be, since it was a forced merge

Hikemasu killing Kiset was gnarly. after basically destroying Kiset's body in a swordfight (darkstone swords can damage skykid shells), Hikemasu held Kiset's soul core in their hands and was just sobbing. currently undecided whether Hikemasu absorbed Kiset's light intentionally, but Kiset's light ended up within Hikemasu's body and it just messed them up for a while.

this is from "Hikemasu sang," which is linked above. this excerpt specifically takes place some days after Hikemasu absorbed Kiset's light. Vela drew this illustration (though I changed some details after they finished it, sorry) showing how during that time, Hikemasu & Kiset's appearances were overlayed.

both intentionally and unintentionally, Kiset's light began competing with Hikemasu's over control of the body. Hikemasu does have natal advantage, but it sure was a fight. Kiset likes to sing, so Hikemasu was singing with two voices. Hikemasu also couldn't control their cape well at first since they had Kiset's winged light that was more attuned to Kiset.

it seems souls as light cores can move on their own given how they zoom around to Elder temples at times. perhaps a soul that had been petrified is more disoriented, especially since they're lacking some of their memories that build their selfhood, hence why skykids need to guide them. a soul core that hadn't been afflicted with darkness or had been made whole again by reuniting the light from spirit memories does seem conscious and mobile on it's own.

thank you you so much. and, wow, that's dope as hell – handling their own core sounds metal. I'm a big fan of body horror and not only does this idea have ripe potential for it. Hikemasu killed Kiset by ||slashing up Kiset's body with their sword until it wasn't physically capable of holding itself together due to extinguished flame||.

a thing in my ficverse's descendant era is the dissolution of the Original Eight – the first eight skykids born in the world. they were all very close friends, even referred to each other as siblings, but their personal and interdependent issues boiled over and they all faced some sort of tragedy as a result. three are canonically dead, including Kiset. Hikemasu & Kiset's stories are closely interlinked to the point where they ceased to exist together, when their lights fully merged to form Maslon.

Shams & Badir don't have to have a deeply entwined backstory like Kiset & Hikey do – maybe Shams was desperate and just attacked the first skid they judged to be a capable host. it does not have to be too deep, just you gotta pass it off to make sure it works.

I mean how I'm questioning what would happen to the selves, the persons, when their light that holds the foundation for their existence combines with each other. so Hikemasu and Kiset have their own light, which had been held separate from each other within their two bodies, experiencing and thinking as individuals. their bodies were their vessels keeping them separate. when Kiset's light, encoded with Kiset's soul, entered Hikemasu's body, there was nothing stopping their light from flowing and merging into each other, combining Hikemasu and Kiset's souls and everything that made them themselves, destroying their sense of individuality.

the only reason they have remained as two souls within one body when their light naturally wants to flow into each other has been, simply put, through sheer will. they're trying to keep their lights separate to maintain their individuality. but with no tangible boundaries keeping their light apart, their light continues to combine and confuse their sense of selves. when they give up and fully merge, their light is shuffled together like a deck of cards and virtually indistinguishable, creating Maslon.

I sorta think of it like fusion in Steven Universe, where the Gems' bodies can merge and compound into a whole new individual, "an experience." the difference is that the Gems' cores, their gems, remain separate and maintain the individuals that compose the fusion. Gems can split easily. because souls are also light, the souls will merge too, erasing said individuality. light souls cannot split easily.

I think the forced fusions are closer to what Hikemasu & Kiset's current state is as partially merged and incapable of separating. there are still two soul cores within Hikemasu's body, they're just so utterly entwined that they cannot be separated without divine intervention. Maslon is when those two souls finally and completely fused into one soul.

YES I WAS GOING TO MENTIOJ THIS. basically my headcanon on krills is that they arise from a bunch of drained (from refineries) manta corpses piled on top of each other to dispose of them. With very little light remaining, they instinctively stsrt to merge with the others around them, but as they do the corruption also forces their consciousnesses apart — instead of working together with ease like the elder light creatures do, they’re constantly fighting and always hungry for the light that will separate them.

I have an OC who gets sharded really bad — destroyed their flame. Was considering the other protag absorbs their friend’s light to protect them but still working out the mechanisms of how a skykid would function with a destroyed flame in order to decide if that’s necessary. They wouldn’t be together as long as Maslon, but it’s one of those attempts at assuaging the trauma they face.

About that, originally Shams was a dying core (flame, in that case) so they had to be rebirthed with the help of the vessel(, working together instead of against each other) but that caused a lot of complications, such as temporary paralysis throughout the body, slurred speech etc,
It could eventually corrupt the vessel because the core is desperately clinging into the source trying to remain alive & not fade to disappear

Spirit names were added during late Enchantment beta to Sanctuary, there were placeholder names at first compiled here by Maelstrom: #beta-screenshots-videos message (*Leads to beta discussion channels)
We didn't have the name of all past seasonal spirits & had to rely on the TS system to eventually uncover them (Sparkler Parent was Belonging Parent at one point)

We had fan names based on the emote/cosmetics they offered, notably guides were once called QG (quest giver)

hiya lore fans! Slink-a-Dink#3025 asked about having a message pinned to help lore moths get started with loring it up. I wanted to toss it back to community to see if we can all come up with a good lore-primer. There are some boundaries to navigate though:

1. concept art doesn't always represent "canon," and may sort of lead to red-herrings
2. hard interpretations are generally not given in "official" communication, so I think in trying to introduce new people to lore, we should all strive for the same general approach to accepting open interpretations. (of course each of us can be as specific as we want in our own musings)
3. strictly fan-generated lore, even where it's seemingly a direct offshoot and very logical, shouldn't be included in a "lore guide." That's more of something for each of us to explore, and for group discussion to take on unofficially

Well... true some mechanics are less lore based and more for the sake of game progress.
Like spyro the dragon needing to learn to swim before being able to progress and explore new areas.

One thing that may support the case for the lore is how the season allow the skykids to gain strength in some way.
In season of prophecy, the skykid cannot do the trails out of order, as there would be a spirit gate that prevents that. Stating that the skykids is not yet strong enough to do it.

While not every season has this progression for the skykids as the main feature, the way that skykids become more 'resilient', gaining more ways to interact with the spirits and eventually gaining blessings is a noteworthy part of certain seasons (such as assembly letting skykids interact with spirits more, abyss with diving abilities unlocked, or performance with skykids able to be more engaged with the spirits).

Hey Lorechat! Today I have a theory on the Light Seekers and the Assembly!

The Lightseekers were missionaries sent from the Vault after the collapse of the Kingdom as to help and releive any survivors as well as help the Kingdom get back on it's feet. Their first part on the mission, is proved by their tending of the many trees found around the Introductory part of each realm and the Blooming Trees of Days of Bloom. Trees that are seen and still present in the Vault and the one trigerred by the Polite Scholar Memory. They were all sent by the Sushing Scholar, since he seems like the leader of the Group.

The Assembly crew, are also losely tied as an off shoot of the Light Seekers, seen as they have a similar cape (scolding scholar) and are found to have the same color scheme as the beta Light Seekers. The most propable choice is that they're training under the Scholar (since Scholars come from the Vault, which in theory might be helping the reconstruction of sky), and the guide being the main character. Their mission was setting up base, studying, and fixing the Hidden Forest (Baffled Botanist), as we see they not only have a map of their hideouts but also the broken bridge. The reason which I think they were trainees, is that most of them lack capes, the only ones having one being the Scholar and the Guide, who I suspect was a second in command. Their attempts being thwarted by the rain or even a flood.

Sky lore is much more sweeping than many people tend to assume on first playing through. The impulse to simplify, condense, or roadmap all the lore is strong, I'm sure but I think the right balance is somewhere in between a full dump of all known lore, and a very nicely organized guide

I mentioned points about what should be pinned just so everyone has an idea about why mods might or might not pin specific things or what changes might be requested. One thing that seemingly comes up over and over again; in the game as well as in the lore chat.
New players join the game, avid players teach them, the game/lore is open and inclusive, however there in less a notable problem.

The players learning about Sky would have varying reactions towards the story being told. Some good, some bad.
The good have been praised and encouraged, while the bad tends to carry on with little to no consequence. A warning here, a censor there and yet when one asks about what would bring the game down. It would be the people that have managed to fly below the radar and would slowly degrade the community.

Like the Darkness in Sky, it is a slow and subtle thing. It is there, though little is done to drive it away.

The lore is either deep, and the community is working hard on learning whay they can about it, as well as share it with new players

Or, the lore is broken and we are just here to waste time playing with the pieces, while trying not to lose temper over bigots or gatekeepers.

Well I think Vault might have been a university/museum in which plenty of scholars gathered. This building was filled with memory cubes, when Eden exploded, the memory cubes were used to 'rebuilding' the Vault. So practically Vault is made of Stone and Light of the past (memories)

You know how you land in Home when you lose all your light outside of Eden ?
What if in canon, both skykids that died in Eden and skykids that died outside of Eden pretty much go through the same process (pity room/limbo, soul goes up after losing all winged lights, crashes back down to Home), but dying in Eden makes you ascend much higher than just enough to fall back home hence why you may get winged light from ascended spirits in Orbit ?

I headcanon the Isle Elder may have a hand in ensuring the soul of skykids that died outside of Eden rise high enough to land back to safety.

If your concern is that we might seem cold redirecting people to the pins instead of ourselves, I think you should rest assured it's not gonna be the case.
It seems like new arrivals with precise questions (such as "who is the king ?") get answered directly, but the pins are a good place to direct more general questions ("so what's the entire story of sky"/"what do we know is canon so far") ! They're also a convenient way to access sources, I know for a fact I don't have the energy to scroll through months worth of tweets on TGC's social media all the time

Aughhhh I’m late because I was drawing my friends as cats but I agree with all of these rules! The third one I would modify to say that it’s fine to include fan generated ideas if someone made something like, a theory encyclopedia, but we have to specify they’re fan generated.

The only things I would change are:

• adding onto number two and directly stating theory elitism is bad; you can debate whether one theory is more likely than the other, but not straight up insult them. I’ve seen people be like “well, I’m considering your idea,” while being as condescending as they can possibly be over text. I and many others absolutely hate that, I doubt I’d have to explain why
• ANOTHER add on to number two that the only theories that don’t deserve respect are ones that are directly harmful in their messaging or themes. Some of the theories I have seen here are… Eugh. I have no interest in considering them if they’re bigoted against me, my friends, or other people in this server — after all, the ability of everyone here to feel safe and welcome is far more important than upholding a fan theory. Obviously with the stipulation that we’d have to explain why it’s harmful.
• Maybe a fourth bit that says headcanons and fan content (ie us talking about our fanfics) is fine, we just have to specify it’s not actual theories.

I totally get your stance on bigotry, but I wanted to let you know. I think it’s due to the huge size of the server and the fact that mods can’t always watch, but, the truth is… I have experienced a lot of bigotry on this server.

Seen it, typically not directed at me, but in general in conversations I’ve spotted in other channels, felt forgotten and excluded at seeing my gender identity (non-binary) be ignored or made fun of several times, being laughed at and even made violent jokes about when I asked for fursona hints on a ts day… it sucks. I rarely go outside this channel because it’s the one place I feel safe all the time; it is small and so we can deconstruct all the things we see: veiled things that gets overlooked easily like “I don’t support the existence of queer people, they’re against my religion, but I won’t attack them for it,” etc. I don’t go into genchat at all for ts hints because it’s where I’ve experienced the most.

It’s part of why trying to keep this channel free of it, because it’s small enough to make an effort for and it’s where my friends are and I don’t want them to have to see it, is so important to me.

We're aware that things like that happen, and we're never okay with it. Whether in realtime or later based on reports, we do work on problems like that. We can't stop things from being said because there's an infinite variety of ways to say offensive things, but we can and do act on reports. Yeah I get you! I assumed it was because the server was so large anyways. The thing that stopped me from reporting most of it was that

1. most of the places it happened in moved so quickly that it was gone just as fast.

2. I have really bad social anxiety and so, fast paced and crowded places like genchat for example overwhelm me fast. If I see something, I am typically too overwhelmed to react in time before it disappears. I also am struggling to think over the anxiety and so sometimes reporting things doesn’t even OCCUR to me until like, a day later. That combined with how quickly it ends means it’s really hard for me to both get my thoughts together in a coherent fashion and report it while it’s still relevant. Especially because the same social anxiety makes even going to contact the mods a struggle the gift that never stops giving!

I am a lot more confident near my friends & with them to back me up, especially in terms of trusting my judgement on whether something is harmful or not, which makes it a lot easier for me to report and shut down things in lc as well — it’s the only reason I’m able to do it in the first place

deep inhale okay so basically, and this is all just my tightly woven web of "wouldn't this be neat",
Megabird played no part in creating the world- She didn't even EXIST in the beginning. Instead, there were four elemental gods- Of water, wind, earth/plants and fire/animals. They made Skyworld, the animals within it, and the ancestors.
Of course, being actual god gods, they... kinda sucked sometimes! They squabbled between eachother and projected their own flaws onto their creations and made an imperfect world soley to entertain themselves with the drama within it.
And, eventually, they decided that... "hey, these guys keep dying just as things get interesting. Let's make a way for them to come back to life", so they did just that- And, to manage this cycle, they made Megabird.

Oh, that's interesting! Maybe the gods are related to/ are the Prophets?

Megabird, as one of the higher gods creations, was... Basically treated as lesser and worthless outside of her one job! She was a tool to them, and they only tolerated her presence in their realm because there was nowhere else for her to go.
More importantly, she wasn't allowed to create. Only manage what they created. She put up with this for a very long time, she put up with the chaos below and the innocent people who, in her eyes, didn't have to die- Or at least, not as much as they did.
One day, though, the temptation got to her, and, in secret, she made the first Skykids- Prototypes, essentially, a little bit wonky and very clearly based on the Ancestors, but she created.
This made the other gods VERY angry. They lashed out at her, killed off her creations, and, in the process, their anger affected the world below, essentially causing a mini-apocalypse. Disasters, feral creatures, Everything Sucking.
Aaaand this. THIS made the ANCESTORS angry.

And, as people tend to do when they're angry at the gods... They set out to kill those gods. And they succeeded- The god of Fire was the first to fall, being the easiest to access. It was a fierce battle, and many Ancestors died.
Megabird brought them back.
When the other gods questioned her, she said it was her duty. Maybe it was, but maybe, just maybe, she knew what she was doing.
Next, it was the god of Wind, and then that of Water. They fell one by one, and, as the battles went on, Megabird did not hesitate to bring their dead back to them.
Soon, all that was left was the god of Earth. They had seen what happened to their siblings, and they were not going to throw their life away. So they challenged Megabird, the cause of this conflict, the one who kept bringing the ancestors back through the battles.
The Earth God was confident that they could snuff out Megabird without so much as a struggle. They helped make her, after all. They could un-make her.
What they did not expect was to be struck down so swiftly, so confidently, by a god who's had enough.
Megabird had enough of the suffering. Enough of the conflict. Enough of innocent people, as insignificant as they may be compared to the gods, suffering for nothing.
And she was angry, and she was there, ready to end it all at the source.
And so, the last god fell not at the hands of the Ancestors, but at the only god who truly cared for them.
Megabird was all that was left, her siblings all dead, and she was ready to fix their mistakes.

And that concludes my overly complicated Megabird headcanon slash excuse to give her a traumatic past and a reason to ensure the world is peaceful and free of suffering <3

This also means Megabird isn't a perfect god, though- It took her a very long time to get the Skykids right, and, after the deaths of the Ancestors, she was entirely incapable of making more- She simply didn't know how.

He left the stovetop on too long when trying to make mac and cheese, the pasta got overcooked, and the pot just exploded leading to Eden going up in flames. The Krills are starving after having nothing to subsist on but burnt mac and cheese bits which is why they attack us. Many Sky Kids have made the trip to turn off the stove and end the chaos, but none have succeeded as of yet. They all fall to the overcooked pasta raining down from above.

Megabird is the chef who makes really good mac and cheese from scratch and sent down the Sky Kids to turn off the stove so she can finally teach the Ancestors how to make some proper mac and cheese.

Idk what the Elders would have done yet, they were probably the other chefs in the restaurant.

The game seems to heavily imply that they’re some form of hard shell with light inside, but given we can’t really dissect them, you can go wild with how far you take it. You could put little light organs in there if you want. You can make their shell soft and malleable or hard. Etc.

I know that there are a bunch of different headcanons I’ve seen here on what it looks like when their shells break open, for example

a common thought is the clayshell theory, where skykids are composed of a hollow shell made of harden clay or some other earthen material filled with light. I have an outline of my own working theory for the composition of a skykid:
–clothing, hair, masks & other cosmetics made of light.
–a humanoid physical shell made of some magic-induced earthen material (i.e. clay, stone, ash, charcoal, meteorite) that has a hole in the chest and eyes.
–this hollow shell is full of light, such as winged light and neutral light.
–their cape, a manifestation of winged light.
–their flame, manifesting as the light in the hole in their chest and held outside their bodies via a red candle.
–their soul, appearing as a blue sparkle.
