okay so basically, this has more so to do with specifically season of shattering but, eden is very clearly aligned with rock, the plants are paper, we are scissors. since we are scissors it explains why we can't beat eden outright, because scissors cant beat rock. but since we can beat paper (by burning plants) we can trigger said plants to take down the rocks.

re: Rock Paper Scissors — it actually makes sense that skykids are scissors cos scissors are only good for cutting certain materials, paper as previously mentioned for this metaphor. There’s a thought that skykids aren’t enough to purge all the darkness, particularly Eden, so that they fail in that part. Really, they only fail at saving Eden because they were not made for saving Eden — that is not their purpose, they are not a hammer. Our task as per the intro cave is to “save the spirits, bring our list stars Home” so that’s what skykids are good for. Skykids are made to save the spirits. Skykids are not made for Eden.

Though with the dark plant cosmetics (mask, hair accessory, cape), it could imply that there are instances where skykids’ flames are not enough to stop dark plants.
Or you could take those cosmetics as skykids mimicking the appearance of dark plants out of light projections like all their cosmetics but, yknow, if you want an alternative suggestion

I think it's more like those plants are intrinsically connected to the shards and they like "absorb" part of the light inside the darkness shards, and when you burn the plant, part of that light leaks out of the shard

Fyi it's Callisto/Kallisto and her son Arcas that's Ursa Major and Ursa Minor respectively. Calypso is a seperate nymph/goddess that resides on Ogygia and kept the hero Odysseus there for seven years.

Since the Manta constellation's equivalent is Ursa Major, I was actually thinking of something.

Callisto's myth in of itself isn't exactly Skycord friendly, but the rundown is that she was tricked and abused by the King of the Gods and that she was turned into a bear because Greek Mythology loves victim blaming for some reason. She and her son in one variation of the myth were turned into constellations by Zeus since Arcas was about to kill Callisto, since she was still a bear and had birthed him (and somehow he came out human, don't question)

Tying it back to sky, if the Manta constellation is based off Ursa Major, then perhaps something similar happened to the mantas? Not the whole "turning into constellations by a higher power" bit, but the "tricked and abused by the King of the Gods." The 'King of the Gods' in this case being the Eden Elder/King/Chosen One.

I wanna share my eden/king theory : I believe the king may have sacrificed himself and devoted his power to allowing skykids to pass through eden after he realised that the eden power diamond had failed. Fully believing in megabirb he hid himself and used all his remaining power to build the black room ( in the eye ). Where he now waits for skykids and light creatures to come so he can guide them the path the orbit. This power extends through the wl returned toa skykid and the initial recollection of the skykids soul💜 Oh and Bobbit ^^

I like to think the Eden King is kinda like the Ice King in Adventure Time, in that they had access to a power that they more or less knew could corrupt them (dark stone/the crown), but they still used it out of necessity and ended up dependant on it.
This kinda blew up in their face though.

there doesn't have to be an equivalent god of darkness. imo there isn't one because that doesn't align with darkness's theme of isolation. light has a god because light's theme is about connection and unity – could be that after all that light morphed together in Orbit, the many consciousnesses of those beings of light coalesced into Megabird. darkness does not seem to work together as a cohesive, united force. it may act together, but it has no community

oh that's interesting. i think aurora could be heavily intertwined with the lore of the game, not as like aurora the woman herself but her voice and who she represents within the game. she does the vocals for both the introduction, where you're first introduced to the kingdom, and the end of the game, where you're ascended to orbit itself and the end credits, where you actually see the megabird.

I’m just gonna put this theory out here.

I think the next season’s area might be in harmony hall. If some of you recall, there’s an area in the backstage room (with the background stage paintings) that has butterflies to call to.

The performance guide and spirit would wander up there to inspect the area. The frantic stagehand spirit would point up to the gates, as the performance guide thinks it’s a stage not picking up on what the spirit is trying to tell them.

For some people thinking the new place might be in Isle of Dawn from the looks on the mural. The mural could be a reference to Aurora singing in the intro of Isle.

Edit: as much as it would be pretty for Aurora’s seasons to be in isle, I think it’s fitting for this season to be in valley due to the snow and possible aurora in the sky. As well as that dream and performance rely on music🎼!

Common theories of skykids involve them being made of a clay or having a shell holding an internal light or just to have a solid state, and in this universe stars seem to be connected with souls in some way, seeing how spirits are in constellations “return our lost spirits to the stars”, and skykids being similar, with friends sorted in constellations and descending in a similar manner as spirits, so id say both, funny stone/clay kid with funny star connection

there is debate around when in the timeline certain ancestors lived and when the events in their spirit memories occurred, both base-game and seasonal spirits. one that seems more obvious are the Wasteland spirits who are interesting with the Wasteland when it was a wasteland, so they could have lived in the latter end of the kingdom's darkstone era or even post-apocalypse.

there is a theory that states the realms represent different eras in the kingdom's development, therefore at least the base-game ancestors spirits could have lived during those specific periods of time. so the spirits in the Isle of Dawn lived at the start of the kingdom's history – the dawn of civilization, if you will – while the Wasteland spirits lived during the latter end of the kingdom's history, during the lowpoint of the darkstone era. taking this further, if you take Eden to represent the end of the ancestors era, the lack of spirits in Eden indicates that the apocalypse killed everyone. there is nobody left.

the backing to this theory is this piece of concept below. it shows that the devs did design the realms to replicate different periods of civilization development.

although it's debatable whether these ancestors actually did live during those points of time. Mellow Musician's spirit memories feature Cheerful Spectator, a base-game Valley spirit, and Twirling Champion, a spirit from the Season of Lightseekers, showing that they did interact in life. it's thought that our Lightseekers lived post-apocalypse or around the latter lowpoint of the darkstone era. if true, that means Mellow Musician and all the Performance spirits were also apoc or post-apoc as well as Cheerful Spectator. they would have to have lived around the same time in order for them to interact and form a band. if Valley of Triumph is supposed to represent the peak of civilization, then perhaps not all of the ancestor spirits there lived during that time.

So I wanted to present to you the Magic System Theory! I’ll try to explain the origin of winged lights and the prophecy lights! * at least what I think!

I just read a Native American myth, featuring a civilization of Star People who decended from the sky due to the world being overpopulated. So a deer was sent down to find land for the people to populate.

I saw this and clearly remembered gratitude and the start of the game where we are sent to bring back the fallen stars ( due to gratitude having a Deer Questgiver & the ancestors having decended from the sky.

My theory leads me to beleive, that the Ancestors and the Elders populated the Realms due to Orbit being overpopulated. Along time, some of the inhabitants of Orbit came falling down as the population spiked ( as seen in ushering stargazer memory).

One time, the Future King fell down from Orbit, wanting to get back home he decided to try and gather people to head there.

Seeing as the ancestors had clearly lost their connection to the light, the King sought the trials to help them reconnect with megabird, and give them ‘light abilities'

Light abilities would be flight, but also being able to whisper with creatures, and using one's light to generate energy.

However the ancestors could only retain each one type of light, seen as they were weaker. The most powerful ones would then become the Elders, each with a pure light reassembling the King

Then the king would continue his crusade against the heavens and use dark stone to achieve his goals, creating massive ships and arks all reaching for orbit

Then all hell went loose and well, the kingdom was gone.

As dark stone and corruption interrupted the cycling of light creatures and ‘souls’ ascending, prob at death, Orbit became underpopulated.

Since routinely winged lights fall, Megabird needed a way to get them back home. We are feeble incarnations that are easely destroyable if needed. We are not meant to ascend ancestors, our job is an uber’s we bring winged light up, they give us light abilities such as flight and ditch us once they see us fight Krill.

However we are also able to help ancestors soooo Isle asks us to help the ancestors. I mean how can you deny a senior whose face you just fixed

This is an interesting perspective that I haven’t really heard before but to be honest… the “problem of overpopulation” as it exists in our current world usually leads to really, really messed up discussions on how to “solve” it. Basically, people who use “saving the environment” as an excuse for condoning and recommending horrible acts of violence, usually against minorities. there is a name for this specific phenomenon but I doubt it would be allowed past the censor.

with that in mind, I can see how your theory could work in terms of logic, but the idea of overpopulation canonically being the big bad thing that indirectly caused the apocalypse makes me uncomfortable personally, especially because of Sky’s huge ties with wanting to protect the environment. If it was canon, it would seem like the message of the game supports and justifies the phenomenon I mentioned above and even offers it up as a solution.

You can use it for headcanons, I just hope it isn’t the canon explanation personally.

Likely not, Sky is meant to be Journey's spiritual descendant, but Journey is owned by Sony.

that's like the opposite of sky lmao (and my crossover game, where 'stasis' is literally a darkness element)
but it could be connected. skykids and the light is passive in that it isn't violent, it's a force of life that gently permeates all and heals. the darkness is violent and active, with krill attacking light creatures and the angry shards of eden which drain your light.

the player character in ff14 is used to the roles being reversed and having to fight for darkness (at the beginning of the game hydaelyn is like go. do a crime[fight for the forces of light or whatever] and then you do that for a while) but hmm

sometimes being passive doesn't always work. in mine, the skykid is the one prophesised as the child of destiny, who would wield an otherworldly light to fight the king in eden, and free him from the darkness, because it's not in megabird's nature to be violent, so its light cant be used in that way. the skykid also ends up learning how to wield the darkness too, which seems like it's against everything they are.
you can very easily say things like this to make a skykid fit in the crossover universe.

in mine (ok, it's Destiny), the light and dark have different elements that they can be manifested as. Light can be fire, electricity or gravity energy (referred to as 'Void', it's not too clear what it is). Darkness was only recently introduced to the series as a element type, so it only has one right now, but it's ice. Light is more energy based, while Darkness is physical.
your one might not have the direct connections as here, but you could say something similar if some of the elements are more 'energy' or 'physical'. skykids probably also have that association too, they would associate light with warmth and energy, and darkness with cold, physical things that can hurt them.

Fun water trial fact: you can sync your breathing with the water rising and falling.

I was thinking, the levels move less and less as you go on through the trials, water is pretty dramatic, earth less so but you still got changes in the level that you can activate, air doesn't move much (you just activate gusts of wind) and fire is almost static save for the shadows lurking.

The King is sky is a rather vague character sadly However, what is known about him is pretty cool! For one, he features prominently in the architecture of the GW, being the figure whose shape makes up the various statues & pillars of the region (which can imply that he was rather revered by the ancestors, although it also could mean he was rather arrogant or assertive of his rule). Beyond that (atleast according to concept art by Tom Zhao) he helped discover & gift darkstone to the kingdom, which allowed the elders to become godly in power. If he also the prince as was stated in the concept art then he is also the one who first completed the trials in the season of prophecy & also was the one whose coming was foretold by them. Speaking of prophecies, if the king is indeed the figure depicted in the mural in eden then it's also very likely that the king is in some way responsible for the kingdom's destruction (although you didn't hear that from me)

I've also heard some speculation that the king/prince originally arrived as a falling star & whose memories make up all the winged light, but little has been confirmed.

All in all the king is a very cool & interesting figure who I hope the game further explores in the future

-vault is one of the only realm to not have a closet- every realm (besides isle) has one, even eden! this suggests in my opinion that vault is the only place not designed for sky kids
-starlight desert has all the stars, despite all the stars having fallen, supposedly. i don’t know what that would mean but it’s an observation

i think it's been stated that skykids, spirits, and elders are all different species, so i don't think they were ever skykids (there are spirit children that are not skykids). the ancestors inhabited the sky kingdom long before skykids did, i think they were all just born there, rather than moving there from somewhere else.

is it possible that eye of eden is one of the biggest power diamond project, because the shape is a diamond. The reason all light creatures are flying towards there is because that is the place where they enter ||orbit||. Therefore the ancestors builts it there so that they can collect lights easier (as a lot of creatures went there for ascending). However it failed, so it exploded, that's why some of the shards are black.

From what I've understood the spirit were once sky kids too who then became "fallen ones" due to the stars falling apart, once freed they become spirit and they just go and chill on the other side, considering that in their stone form they look very similiar to the "fallen ones" near the ||eye of eden|| , some of them even have capes, wich is a defined features of sky kids.

Spirits are Ancestors, who have no relation to sky kids and are mainly just our predecessors without us being tied with each other. The reason why they have capes is probably because of clothing items rather than them having an actual function. As far as we know, spirits don't have light cores like us sky kids, and the only reason why the caped Spirits have a star is probably because of how capes function in game, and so need at least one light to be shown

Spirits/Ancestors and Skykids also have different purposes. We don't know much about Ancestors and why they were made, but we do know that skykids were made to "bring our lost stars home" (i.e. free them from petrification and bring them to Orbit). It's obvious that Ancestors weren't made to do this, as they were ascended by the Elders when they died (and that the Elders continue to do).

Elders are also not related to skykids as they are significantly larger, have different appearances, and also don't need to die to ascend Spirits to Orbit (although the weird dimension that we find them in could be argued that they're dead, but I personally see it as them being trapped in little "memory spaces")

does anyone think that the season of shattering might be like a "repeat of events" from the past? as in the events happening now might be similar to when the sky world was first almost overtaken by darkness, but even worse. Which would suggest that ze wonky looking diamond past the ||point of no return|| is gradually getting more unstable again.

Is it possible that there'll ever be another season that acts as a continuation to shattering's events? I do hope shattering isn't a one-off thing made solely to torture me with the shard eruptions and will have more lore on it

The thing that made me think that it’s the first time it happened is because you can’t see the little stone remnants shards leave behind when they’re cleared scattered throughout the realms, but considering they don’t stick around (personally I believe this is a game mechanic) you could debate that they decay overtime naturally and that’s why we don’t see them

i think the lore for the eruptions itself is that skykids can work together to mitigate the effects by getting rid of the eruptions that show up randomly around the realms

and for the part where they don't stick around, i take it as a game thing because i wish not to run into a random eruption while on a cr and then accidentally lose all my winglight and cry myself to sleep- shattering is enough pain as it is 😭

Also I’m late but imo, it’s completely possible to me that ancestors and skykids are REALLY similar to each other in terms of anatomy. @rigid mural has an amazing piece of art on this idea. I don’t think WL existed before skykids did, nor could spirits be reborn in the same way as us, but in terms of “earthen shell with light inside”, I like to think both skykids And ancestors fit that description.

there’s some scattered evidence for it through the game, for instance:

• shivering trailblazer losing their hair in the rain
• them repeatedly being called Our ancestors, which could imply either they’re predecessors without direct relation or like. Us but older
• bashing instead of stabbing weapons being more common (ie having to break open the shell instead of stab through soft skin)
  -:our soul stars & spirits’ (the little blue thing that appears when you die in Eden & when reliving a spirit) are the same. Spirits also have the little glowing core in their chests in the same spot we do, although it’s a mystery whether it looked the same as ours when they’re alive. the kid in the switch trailer has one but whether they’re an ancestor is a source of disagreement

It’s all small and vague enough atm that you can interpret ancestors as being shelled or basically humans with some light bits to whatever extent you feel like.

Personally I think we’re still kids for game reasons because it would be super hard to program us growing slowly & also because the oldest of us have only been here for a couple of years, BUT that is a neat point

In my little theory I wanted to add that basically the whole purpose of a sky kid is to help the fallen spirits reach the other side, but it felt like going out of the topic, but yeah it would make sense that we're supposed to remain kids forever just to give our light to the fallen ones.

There’s a thought that ancestors could contract “darkness sickness,” or darkness plants that grow off of them. Known or suspected ancestors who had this include Rejecting Voyager, Slumbering Shipwright, and the bald spirit in Tearful Light Miner’s spirit memories.

The darkness plant accessories we get this season can imply that skykids can also get darkness sickness.

My theory is that those statues are like "saints", our skykids pray/meditate to them to go Home and they guide us with light through Eden and Trial of Fire (I think), and they are buried outside of those butterfly doors at prairie (someone said here in lore chat that place is sacred, I don't remember who it was) ...
And they look like the ancestors, so could be just a decoration to hold light ... because they couldn't project their outside of their body (I think, I'm nor sure)

If you’re talking about the 8-player room, I believe it was theorized that that place was a mini version and depiction of the ascension ritual/Eden because of the beam of light that might represent the giant pillar of Light flowing upwards that you can see in most of the realms.

I was thinking about this while I was doing my spirit memory quest for the day while one of the shards had fallen.

What if reliving spirit memories while the falling shard event happens, at least in wasteland, is the closest we will get to understanding the full situation and terror of Edens fall?

While of course this could be debunked if the red shards event didn’t happen while the sky kingdom was falling, and it was just the elders being absent that allowed the kingdom to fall into the state that it’s in (though it’s pretty heavily implied that this is not at all the case I’m pretty sure.)

We uh don’t know these. They’re all from the distant past, and all the questions are about people who are dead, so it’s likely we won’t know. However, they are theories:

I should definitely re watch it... At least the trailer confirmed my doubts on whether or not the isle of dawn was a desert from the start...

I wasn't expecting it to be a green valley, the boat in a first moment made me think that it was a sea of some kind

Historical events of sky are always hard to say anything for certain, we know they happened, just not exactly how or why often- so it’s a lot of theory

The war in golden wasteland is often thought to be between two groups of ancestors, or some suggest ancestors against creatures, or creatures fighting alongside ancestors on one side. There are two different weapon types (sword and spear) and the two different shield symbols in the battlefield, one a sun the other a diamond, often thought to represent what each side was fighting for.

The isle desertification, my memory is a bit poor on common theories surrounding that- From the top of my head there’s ideas that isle became deserted by people abandoning it, with less light in the realm and the isle elder being potentially ostracized (see missing from the eden door), it became more abandoned with time. As well there could’ve been general environmental ramifications due to the darkstone usage seeing skys environmental message.

Elders are hard to get a read on at all, some suggest they died with their people, being deeply connected with their realms, perhaps something personal happened to them all, or perhaps they just went out in the big extinction event whatever that may be.

A headcanon I had was the Wasteland battle was between the Enchantment Crew and Lightseekers, I mean both of them were seeking lights, they could be rivals

There was a mural in the Forgotten Ark that showed people with umbrellas. Given how the ultimate gift of the Lightseekers are umbrellas, they may be related somehow.

We don’t know much about the lightseekers. They were one of the first seasons and those very early seasons lacked any details of lore. Devs have said that there is a story to them that will be unveiled eventually, though aside from their appearances at saplings and Days of Bloom 2022, there still isn’t a lot of information about them. All we know is that they collect light, were supposedly centered in Hidden Forest, and — from concept pieces — might’ve used light as a sort of magic like to heal.
