I always first look with which notes I can play the main melody, and as far as chords go, I pretty much freeroll whatever sounds good enough. If it's not in C major then it gets quite tricky. Especially if the sheet uma.ko shared doesn't offer an easy solution, for example in a D# minor or F# major key.

If you have no musical background there are several options, you need the music sheet for the song you want to play. Preferably an easy one with 1 to 2 notes/buttons to press at the same time. There are different sources to find music sheets, here on the server or YouTube for example. You get familiar with the song first by playing it slowly and increase the speed over time. The video is a Sky Music Nightly transcription of the song Love Shine A Light by Katrina & the Waves, with which they won Eurovision in 1997 for the United Kingdom. I feel this is a song that fits the game's lore very well, so I decided to try and learn it. I shared part of it a few days ago but have since included the remainder of the melody. I recommend to use touch controls with the button setting where the one octave is on the left and the other octave is on the right. Took me about 2-4 hours to play it adequately.

Most music sheets are from seasonal spirits. You're not confined to those sheets though. Play whatever song you want to play (although I admit for some it's hard to go by ear only)

I just got an instrument (the violin, to match my irl violin!) and I’m working on the Bach Minuet 2- it’s definitely an adjustment! Very nostalgic though, I’m reminded of when I was learning the piece the first time

Does anyone have tips re: phrasing? Staccato vs legato seems fairly straightforward and I’m guessing held notes can add emphasis in the absence of dynamics, but I’m very curious about what experienced musicians have come up with

Yes, held notes can most definitely add emphasis when the implementation of dynamics is too difficult to achieve overall. At least to me, I've noticed that slower songs with the tempo Adaigo or Andante sound the best when you add held notes. It makes the song flow well, adds greater clarity, and adds opportunity to playing with emotion.

Faster songs with the tempo Allegro, Allegretto, etc. are best to be played on a stacatto basis for emphasis in sky. Held notes in this case would clump up the melodies and obscure clarity and overall flow of the song.

These are my observations so far~ Hope they are helpful.

That’s very helpful! What configuration are your hands generally in? So far it seems easiest to have a structure a little like piano, where set fingers generally go for set keys and you adjust from there. Is that your experience, or do you use a different technique?

I'm happy my observations are helpful! When I play instruments on sky, I use both hands like I do on the piano except that I tend to use fingers 1 to 4 the most on both hands; in piano terminology, finger 1 is the thumb and finger 4 is the finger next to the pinky.
However, this largely depends on the nature of the song you're playing.

For example, if a person wanted to play a cover of rush e, the configuration would be made in a way that would allow the fingers to jump across the keys in sky (the positions for both hands would be at a slightly vertical angle altogether).

For a song that uses a lot of chords, the position would stay mostly horizontal for both hands except that steps would be made to ensure the successful jumping of two fingers simultaneously; thumb and middle finger, or index finger and finger number 4 are best for adding chords quickly.

My technique overall adapts to the nature of the song to allow clarity and precision.

Hello there! Coming from a fellow violinist of 9 years I can definitely say this instrument has some potential especially with layering harmonies and melodies. A lot of timing is involved it seem because the programmed each held note to automatically crescendo which means that you’ll have to find ways to really bring out soft and loud phrasing without making it too choppy or too dissonant.

I’m thinking it would be interesting to see if there’s a finger pattern that would be good for having natural harmony finger which hold notes longer and melody fingers which are accustomed to moving around and such. 🤔🤔

Working on it myself but ofc it’s almost as challenging as it would be on an actual violin! 🤣

Anyhow, hopefully that’s helpful or inspires some creative ideas 😄

There are plenty of Caves with that echo effect in Prairie and the underground Caves in forest is a great spot too! There's also under the ice in valley and the coliseum, and inside the temples from all realms! So many good spots to choose~ hope this helps

The violin is a little more difficult to play, if only because you can control how long the notes are and it takes some practice, but the dynamic swells melt my heart that makes the violin perfect for slower songs, but I have a hard time with chords
