Important Reminder for #beta-announcements
As Ktjn has (kindly) stated, game development is VERY complex and time consuming. There are a variety of factors that could hinder this update’s release. For example, if this build does not pass internal testing (again) then that would mean MORE internal testing has to be done as this next season is unusual compared to the others we’ve had. Most importantly, TGC staff members have a life of their own as well so it is our due diligence to respect them and their time; in addition to the VAST amount of hard work EVERYONE at TGC has put into making Sky the best game it possibly can be. With that said, whatever may come out we are to give CONSTRUCTIVE feedback and not DESTRUCTIVE feedback as we want to build people UP and not down. Finally, I wish all TGC devs and Sky kids a stress-free week. Remember, patience is key.

It kinda reminds me of a road trip and that one friend who always asks "are we there yet?" And you keep telling them the ETA isn't concrete due to traffic, speed limits, etc. A good piece of advice: when someone gives you an estimated time of arrival, it's always good to add 25% extra on the time they estimated. I.E. "within a few days" could extend to 7 or 8 days, "Early next week" could mean it releases early on Wednesday morning into the evening, etc.

No, currency always gets reset after major currency glitches. TGC even announced so a while back, when the glitch happened, it just so happened to take place now.

Still, currency wipes and even progress wipes are always a possibility in Beta if they're needed. So always good to keep that in mind

there was a bug/exploit months ago that allowed some to end up with millions, which, as you might guess sort of invalidates those accounts as beta testers because people with no motivation to play will lose incentive to contribute.

I think if you feel this way it is good to take a break! We are all aware nothing in beta is permanent and that scheduling for new builds is not always going to be smooth and accurate due to the fact that they have a lot of internal tests to run before we can have access. I don't think any of the moves tgc have taken over the last few weeks leading up to this new season update have been in any way malicious. They aren't doing this to cause stress to testers, and if we are putting so much energy into this that it's affecting us negatively, it's on us to take that step back. Please take care of yourself and I hope you feel better soon.

If it wasn't constantly said that nothing in beta is permanent, I'd say there'd be more of a valid reason to argue that this is unfair. If you aren't ok with loss of currency, items or other such as stated in #beta-faq it's ok to focus on live and free up your beta spot for a different tester.

Currency reset has happened before and will likely happen again. And what Isca says is true, we may have a nice seasonal candle conversion coming our way in the future!

I get that some folks will be upset by this. Unfortunately, this is the nature of beta, which we go to many lengths to explain to everyone who joins. We said multiple times when this bug first appeared that a currency reset was a likely outcome.

Nothing in beta can be permanent. Nothing in a beta account should taken seriously, let alone as seriously as a live account.

Beta accounts are purely for testing the game before the "real" version is released. Resets can happen at any time. If a bug drastically alters the way the game is played, we will have to take steps to reverse that impact.

To be fair, this is the BETA. Ofc they have the right to reset currencies. Most of the events come with candle packs for IAP, IE days of rainbow. You get these iap packs for events, early, and for FREE. Remember, beta is for TESTING, not to act exactly like sky.

So, emotions are running high. But before you judge someone who’s upset by the reset, please remember: it’s not really the actual currency reset that bothers people. It’s all the effort, time, and organizational energy they spent in trading hearts with people that bothers them. And the fact that someone just got back up to 163 by not claiming those hearts does kinda negate the fairness of this.

Which, it's worth saying, this has happened before. We know people get attached to their accounts, their cosmetics, their beta friends, and all of that—but if this kind of reset is necessary in order to do necessary testing...that's what beta is for

Despite a currency wipe being inevitable when a bug gives testers millions of candles, it seems like this next update will bring big changes to Sky as a whole. I imagine it must be extra important for TGC that testers keep their experience realistic- after all, that's what Beta is for! To help test upcoming features without really much benefit other than the opportunity to be part of the process.

As someone who once lost over a year of progress when they did a proper progress wipe, I know it can be harsh and it's okay to be disappointed. But always keep in mind this is the reality we signed up for and resets will happen every now and then.

The long and short of reset is this: everyone will react differently. Respect each other even if you don't react the same, and we can all still cooperate. Some invested effort in playing with the currency glitch, and maybe even that behavior will give interesting data to TGC. So don't shame anyone for being upset, even if we all have to cope with increase/decrease in currency individually.

I think its exactly that, its because its ONLY BETA. Testers signed up to beta knowing full well that anything can happen to their accounts, whether it be resets or progress wipes. They already said the currency bug will be fixed before.

Yes, I can fully understand feeling upset or disappointed by the reset. Especially those close to invisible cape, I'm sure the loss of time and effort stings.
Yet people claiming it's unexpected, unfair, or done maliciously is the only thing I cannot agree with simply because it's been constantly been advertised that nothing in Beta is guaranteed.
If the candle reset is seriously affecting someone, it's ok to take a break and focus on Live account. Or at the very least don't worry about doing candle runs or completing constellations on Beta. No one is judging anyone on Beta if they don't have an elder hair.

Yeah, it is only beta, and not a replacement for live. A currency reset can happen at any moment no matter how hard earned our candles/hearts were, just as any other complete wipe can happen. This is literally stated in FAQ It's the nature of beta and again, it isn't the end of the world. I'd understand if this was about live but this is to be expected as a tester

There was a bug at one point that made it impossible to use the piano if you had already collected it... I do think it's fair that people are upset about this - I don't personally think there should be a 'don't be mad' mentality -- It can be discouraging in general to loose what you might have been working for, even if it is just Beta
However, TGC felt it was necessary to do this reset for one reason or another, and it's stated plainly that resets like these can happen. As people said earlier, this will likely help in exploring more and testing more areas during candle runs. It's a chance to start anew, in a way. It might he hard to accept, but it's happened
Take a breather if you need, remember that Beta is for testing purposes, and things can happen where TGC feels is necessary, even if they seem unfair at first, there is a reason

Beta is not live but on the other hand tgc is also getting a lot of work done for free for them, so it’s understandable to me that testers who were trying to at least earn a special perk they’d feel let down for not even getting the notice of a wipe. Normally this is a job you can get paid to do and so whatever happens to your character and progress matters less, you were paid for your time.

I see a lot of people referencing the invisible cape as a reason for their upset, which look, I get it's cool and some of y'all were so close to achieving it so I can understand your frustration. But it seems prudent to also point out that 1) it's not an official item ever intended for live currently so if tgc did so wish, they could remove it from beta entirely under the pretense that it isn't even necessary to testing, 2) that a full progress wipe would result in everything being removed from your account, so even if you did achieve capeless, there's every chance you could end up losing it either way. Because of this I really don't think becoming attached to this cosmetic in particular is a good idea, we've all been told multiple times that treating our beta accounts as precious as we would our live accounts is not recommended because things like this can happen, I think it's important to remember that when setting your sights on invisible cape - you could get it and lose it at any time.
By all means, grieve the loss of hearts and candles as you need to, but try not to let this bring you down.

Beta invites are opt-in, so by joining I feel like as such you automatically agree to the testing conditions stated by #beta-faq? If you don't agree with how beta testing is done here, then you do not have to participate, and that is ok. I have heard of other game's beta tests where total progress resets are done on a more frequent schedule, so it's not an unusual concept.

Well, you really don't generally have to candle run in beta. I almost never do because I focus on live instead where I know what candles I gather, I am not in danger of losing. It's ok to not worry about candle running or gathering currency or items on beta, especially knowing that things can be reset at any time and any IGC items we can always get on our Live accounts. It's actually almost freeing, not worrying about TS, constellations, or candles on beta.

I've been in beta for over a year and I've yet to complete my first constellation.

Thats just the nature of beta. They can reset you to 0 candles. They could even reset you to no cosmetics but moth cosmetics. This is why I don't pour too much energy into my beta account except testing the seasons for a while, and testing events. Cuz everything could be reset any day, any hour.

It's ok to ignore the constellations and traveling spirits in beta. Since all progress can be reset at any time, it's actually better to not worry about those things and instead just focus on whatever is being actively tested. If there isn't anything actively being tested, feel free to enjoy the Live game where you are promised to keep whatever candles or items you earn. I've been in beta over a year and I haven't completed a single constellation. It is too much effort to try and focus on completing two versions of the game and can lead to burnout or upset feelings such as yours.

The frustration towards the candle and hearts reset from the other faction of players are mostly to the time and effort it had took to obtain hearts. Since there was no heart bug, everything had to be done manually.

In Chinese the word ‘自闭’ means ‘feeling confined and distressed’, however the medical term autism translates into the word ‘自闭症’, which is very similar. The blog mentioned both TLP and Prophecy in regards to the next Season, and its mentioned that its leaning towards latter more than the former.
Prophecy was abt new gameplay experience with lore, but with a more "show not tell" style. (Literally, they showed the story through murals), while TLP directly tells you the story. This makes the two kind of opposites in regards to how they convey the story (show vs tell). The new Season seems to be more focused on the new experience part of Prophecy, which seems to be the main highlight. Though it makes me wonder if the story telling will be like TLP or Proph. Could be in between...

Originally in the concept art, the game was gonna have 8 sky kids that you go with the entire journey, and to progress, the others sacrifice themselves. 2 of them in Forest just to progress, and in Eden, every single one sacrifices themselves one by one just to get closer to the King at the center of the storm until only one remains, who is the one who reaches the Prince. They sacrificed themselves by giving their light to the next kids.

I generally switch between one mode or the other, depending on which game I'm spending more time in. So if I'm focusing on Beta, I'll spend more effort on Beta. If I'm spending more time in Live, I'll put more of my effort there. I generally spend more time on Live, though. The way I look at it, Beta tends to function on a "gather what you need" basis. Gather as many WL, candles, hearts, cosmetics, etc., as you need to get your testing done, and make testing your priority. If you need more candles, do your dailies + Grandma in Live and a candle-run in Beta. Having a few different cosmetics on hand is good — prioritize chibi mask and table though cause those are the glitchiest, and use your resources up slowly.

Now that I think about it though, Grandma and Geyser are going to be your best friend in both Beta and Live if you're trying to get your candle count up.

I think what hit me hard with this reset is on one side the suddenness. I need to know changes beforehand for my mental equilibrium.
On the other hand - and I don't blame anybody, I know candle reset could happen - the heart reset hit me hard. Because it brought the question: was my many months of effort and helpfulness towards my friends and beta buddies all in vain? It is so difficult to get hearts in Sky, more so in beta. I really like to help others. My heart aches ...
I know it is "just" a game.
But is it really? For me not. But I realise I was too attached to beta.

For the record, the old beta progress wipe (back in June 2019) was traumatic for most. We lost all upgrades with friends also, so there was a mad scramble to try and re-connect with old friends in the Live version that was coming up. I remember one particular friend, who was in a different time zone than me, I could only add many months later.

We did sign up for this, so we'll have to grieve a little and then move on. It may be that some players "got lazy" and didn't test as much as they should, but mostly I just saw generosity and helpfulness stem from the candle bug. When you have a lot of something, it's easier to give more.

100% it’s a double edged sword because realistically players shouldn’t be investing as much time as they have on beta due to the uncertainty and constantly changing environment. But on the other hand tgc are incentivising that investment by including a 999 heart item in beta that drives a lot of players as motivation.

For the love of Eden Elder, There is no set time and set date for the next season to come in Beta. Once it's ready to be tested, it'll arrive in Beta, even if TGC already gave a estimated time of arrival, they'll probably change it.
