As someone who purchased the ANNIVERSARY BOX, I feel that while yes, the prices are pretty high for their worth, I think it’s also very important to take into account the level of quality. The game has some of the best graphics on the market, the music is high quality, I could go on and on. This company is tiny, but also producing a game with what I’d argue are closer to AAA graphics rather than indie ones.

That's been a hard thing for me to understand as well, the difference between pass value to individual cosmetics value. I really do think the motivation is to avoid making the game all about spending money. It's something you don't need, and it costs too much, so it helps convince people who can't afford it not to buy it. I may be biased, but I do believe TGC doesn't want to create an environment where there's an overt hierarchy based on spending money

Hey we all come from different backgrounds. 20 to some is nothing, to others it’s unimaginable. It’s kinda hard to find that balance. I think the best route to fix this would offer a low, medium, and high price item. The high price one would be the most detailed, lowest least detailed, but all still good quality. That way TGC can touch base with all consumers

It's a good point actually, when people talking about the prices of season passes and comparing them to event cosmetics... Time is as important a currency as money is. People could spend $55 to get seasonal candle packs too in order to complete something to get a seasonal cape they really want instantly, same as how people can spend $55 to get all the Halloween cosmetics. If you look at how time = money, it sorta balances it all out. I get why people are upset tho

in my understanding, free to play means that you don't need to purchase anything to win the game or get an advantage. Sky is 100% free to play in a way that's super unique to any other game as the purchases are only for cosmetics and don't really affect gameplay.

Yeah I feel like it’s super important to remember this game is completely free to play, yet it has hours of content that isn’t very repetitive, if only for your first playthrough. All IAP are far from required. Maybe they could do a thing where they offer a low priced item, a medium, and a high? All good quality but maybe the detail goes up with the price

I saw some messages a few hours earlier about tgc not listening to feedback: keep in mind that the lantern was a complex item and tgc kept that price because it was difficult to develop and make it functional for the live version. These capes and hats are a much different story so they might be more flexible with changing prices

While this was what Jenova's philosophy on setting the price for the swing, it doesn't mean he's thinking about the same when setting the price for all time limited IAP props, nor for Halloween cosmetics of course.
He was not wanting to make the swing affordable to as many players as possible. Making the most revenue out of the swing was not the goal.
The relatively expensive price was served as a bar to let the swing exclusive to those who really want it and need it. He thought the swing is not fitting the world of Sky in the long run, so instead, he want less player to own it.
While I don't really agree with this approach for the swing, and the decision on the price for Halloween might not be the same, I'm wanting to say that making as much money as possible from IAPs or letting more players to have them in closet might not be TGC's ultimate goal.

I can't speak for everyone, but I've seen a few different perspectives on it. For example, I saw that there was a comment earlier about Jenova Chen's reasoning for why the Days of Love swing was so expensive. They're not necessarily pricing them so high for the money, but because the cosmetics don't necessarily fit the aesthetic of Sky. Also, I think some players do want the cosmetics to be more exclusive. Others are fine with the prices because they may believe they are priced fairly to compensate the developers for their hard work. As I said, I could be totally off, but this is some of the ideas I've been getting from being in this channel.

I haven't retried the fire trial since my last attempt where I had to leave the game for one reason or another and the return shrine dropped me into a death loop where I died as soon as I respawned into complete darkeness

Might be late to the conversation but I am ok with price because I think the creative team should be compensated fairly for their craft. But I do see the reasons people want it to be lower.
My bigger concerned is when ppl said the IAP are too expensive and they’re struggling with money. DO NOT prioritize a game over your need!! If you want to support TGC but are financially challenged, playing the game normally and report bug or even helping and welcoming other players are also a way to help.

traveling spirits were genuinely surprising for me, since I expected seasonal things to not make any returns. That's what they originally were supposed to be, but the demand for their return without iap brought in ts. I'm really happy that I get the chance to get some past cosmetics, but I'm not too concerned about getting ultimates. if they decided to bring them back through iap or a special event, I wouldn't care too much.

I prefer android for my built in stylus. Like I'm not paying 1k for a second phone for a game (and used iPhone are obnoxiously priced. Not paying $400 for your cracked screen and needs a new battery phone). Plus some people didn't know sky existed when it was released. I didn't know it existed until February and borrowed an iPad to get on before Android release but not everyone has a friend cool with lending them expensive electronics for months at a time like me.

It’s also not like people are getting stuff from TS for free... there are F2P players who grind the candles but there are also android/newer ios people who are in a financial situation that allows them to buy the white candles for TS. Both are valid ways of getting items. But I’d like older players to appreciate and remember the latter group exists: they’re supporting TGC and this f2p game as well

And no matter how much you look at it, farming for TS is more tiresome than playing a season. For the TS you farm every realm every day and can't spend those candles on anything else, otherwise you might not get the items, for the season you would get on and do the dailies.

I’ve been thinking of it from other people’s perspective to and I feel it’s more an issue with wanting to look unique and different...for example, a cosmetic set that you thought represents you, comes through a traveling spirit, and now everyone;s wearing the same thing or roughly the same thing.. I guess they feel like they lost a sense of uniqueness in the game...

I think the balance is just right, for new players to achieve some different cosmetics, beeing de-moth-ed and for f. e. Android players to get some old stuff through ts they missed out. There is so much diversity with the cosmetics and it is common that after ts everyone looks "the same" for a few days... I sometimesctoo see a player and think hey, that combo is cool, should try! But showing of is never intended

Please take a moment to consider how hard TGC is working to deliver this season and that maybe they want to present the live reveal in a manner that suits them. I think the reason people get upset over the cost is because it's just a 3d mesh. Something that adds a look to your character that boils down to a model, some color, and lines of code shouldn't cost more than a lunch. After all, most people will stop playing the game after a few months. The obvious answer is then don't buy anything, but something as simple as a cute cape or cool hair really adds a lot to the game, because half the game is social. It's really nice to feel like you can be identified in a crowd in social games. Some people don't have a ton of friends in real life, or can't go to events, and if a few accessories makes them feel a little bit happier for the months that they do play and make friends in game, isn't it worth pocket change? But not if that "pocket change" means not eating lunch for 3 days.

That 3d mesh was several developers working for several days or more. The devs aren't working this hard for free. They also need to eat and pay bills. It's valid to discuss the prices but please don't devalue their hard work in the process

After posting earlier, I had some offline discussions about the holiday season price points. Reviewing some of the general app game business models and economics, so many other games use the “chance”, ie gambling principles with IAPs to manipulate users into spending more. I actually deeply appreciate I know what we get with the purchase and TGC is doing right by its user base being upfront with it. So another app might give you price points of 5$, 10$, 20$, 50$, 100$ for in game currency packages but there is no guarantee you will get lucky enough to get the special items at a reasonable cost because who knows what’s in the “prize chest”.
With that said, I still feel the price points are a bit high but more fair than other game dynamics. I do love the new cosmetics tho, and very impressed with the TGC designs as always.

part of this is that people need to be responsible with their money. their financial choices are their own. but at the same time, i think tgc should want us to be buying these cosmetics. obviously i dont know business practices and all that but if they want us to buy them they should cost less, then maybe more people will buy them. for example, i cant justify spending $10 on a hairstyle (i really do like it and i want to buy it) but if i costed even just $7 i could buy it.

i enjoy the cosmetics and i would buy them , but i think they should be expensive at first so the initial wave of purchase by consumers is at its peak .. and then when the excitement of these cosmetics dies down , they should be reintroduced at a lower price point , so those that couldn’t afford them can buy them and it’s a new purchase resurgence .

I'm not trying to devalue hard work, it takes a lot to model and code and animate, I'm an artist and lots of artists, especially in companies, aren't paid what they should. But that comes to a bigger problem with the industry, that often the people at the top take a lot while the people doing the ground work don't get much. Idk how well TCG pays their people, that isn't what this is about, but I don't think kids should have to feel like they have to decide between eating and getting to feel happy for a few months. Again, its hard rn, not much socializing, and to people who don't have a lot of friends outside of the game a few cosmetics really can make you happy for a while. Sky has a pretty darn good player base, I don't know exactly how big, but I'm sure enough people are going to be buying cosmetics for them to be well off until their next event, not to mention the pins and such coming out.

i enjoy the cosmetics and i would buy them , but i think they should be expensive at first so the initial wave of purchase by consumers is at its peak .. and then when the excitement of these cosmetics dies down , they should be reintroduced at a lower price point , so those that couldn’t afford them can buy them and it’s a new purchase resurgence .

Well I think the prices aren’t really justified to me because I know there are other really good games out there that I could buy with the amount of money that tgc is selling these individual items for. Those games probably take more time and effort then the individual items tgc is selling, and they’re more fun and long lasting. Like you could buy terraria for fairly cheaply and you could get thousands of hours of fun.

I guess its just a lot for what you're getting. If we relate it to the lantern last event, it was $20 but it was also functional. Not to mention, I know they had a headache trying to get it to work properly. I didn't but it, but I know that cost was well justified. Paying $15, I wish they at least threw something in along with the cape, especially when, again, season passes are $10, and the hats are straight $10. If the prices were a little lower, a lot more people would be buying them which would make up for the $5 on individual purchases. I suppose it's a perfect storm of bad timing

Just to clarify a bit (at least from my opinion) the seasons are relatively the same price because of the traveling spirits- it would be unfair to charge a higher price because you could get the same cosmetic (at a later point yes, but still) through a traveling spirit because you could get that cosmetic without any real money. Your technically paying to be able to get all the cosmetics at that moment and the ultimate gift. I see the season pass as sort of a traveling spirit pre order These sorts of event cosmetics cost the price they do because they are seasonal

Pøcky: Around the first Halloween iap we did not have TS. Many players have found the iap to be too expensive at that time already, after having 2 seasons’ experience behind us. As we did not have TS then, it could not have been factored in the AP or iap price setting.

I'm of the opinion that voice chat would be a nightmare in Sky. first, as a mobile game I often have sound off or headphones and talking isn't always socially acceptable. Second, voice chat is not helpful in Sky as far as gameplay, because there's never anything you need to coordinate with your crew. 3rd, I just don't want to hear most players' voices because most people are annoying (not any of you though, obvs). Lastly, safety is a big issue with minors in a game

Wasn’t one of the intents of sky initially was to let players play together without a language barrier? That’s why the emote library is so ever expanding, and chat is a thing for friends who want that, so it’s not as low in the friend tree as hand holding or hug

Definitely agree, there are friends in Sky that I can’t talk with but I was still able to play around with them thru honk and emotes and i think that’s the beauty of sky.
On Fire trial, I recorded all my attempts in order to send feedback and I have accumulated a total of 30 minutes of me failing at soloing

I love the hug emote more than anything in sky emotes definitely go beyond language barriers and the translate feature is going to help even more once a bond is formed and chat is unlocked

One of the things I do like about Fire is the claustrophobic nature of the unknown surrounding you. It makes the mind wonder and it's creepy fun. Still too difficult solo though,hahaha.

For anyone here who wasn't in pre-launch beta, seeing the progression of the fire trial: the level initially looked like a bunch of blocks to jump around on, not very engaging visually even though the mechanics were pretty good. adding final-looking terrain and polishing the visuals teaches us about game dev and how important the structure of gameplay is, more so than all the pretty graphics... Eye of Eden started this way too, and was mostly square blocks for a long time in early beta. I was so happy to see TGC get to the graphics-polish stage for Eden, and it's still one of my fav areas

My brother found this one out but 👁👁 to avoid them when you come, make sure you fully charge, and move your skykid to the right.. or wherever your skykid can avoid the wind! Then run fast to the candle to recharge again

flashing white screen in fire trial deathloop is gone! screen stil shakes violently but with the darkness of fire trial it's not too bad for photosensitive (may have died intentionally after completing fire trial with my essentially invincible piggyback totem pole)

you can fire with no checkpoints if you piggy stack. I was literally walking around in the dark without touching any candles and worms fly over and we still didn't die it was quite hilarious. and I still got lost despite doing fire like 30+ times at this point
