I’ve played the game for 8 years for example. As you may know the servers can pair you with just one other player, and you won’t know the identity until after the credits at the end. Journey aficionados love playing with mysterious strangers.

Most Journey veterans think the connection you make when travelling with another player is the best part of Journey. We love meeting mysterious strangers. The dustings were probably new players who were just dipping in for a few minutes. Hope you find a great companion at the Event.

BTW you can tell from the cloak embroidery how new a player is. For the first four Journey you add an extra layer of markings each time you finish. So someone with just a hem round the bottom of the cloak is a newbie.

I think maybe my message sounded kinda bitter and it's not what I intended (English is not my first language)! I've done just 3 runs in journey and I think I am still a total newbie and absolutely clueless. My "flight" skills are atrocious. So what I meant is that I imagine if I were to find an experienced player I probably wouldn't be able to keep up with them, and since it seems there's not many people around maybe they would decide to try their luck finding somebody else. Not in a mean evil way, just them trying to enjoy their game too. (Maybe I'm just saying silly stuff, as I said I'm super new to the game, but it was my perception of the situation).

You didn’t sound bitter and your English is brilliant. Don’t worry about flight skills. All a good companion will need is someone who is friendly. The best players will generally adapt their game to the companions level of skill. If you’re unlucky enough to find someone who just wants to show off, well they don’t deserve your company.

I started Journey because of a friend and im also ios. Its not too easy to merge even when you are constantly talking on discord and plan the whole thing, and i managed to merge with strangers more than him but yes its not too busy. Both of our apps crashed ocassionally which can also be the reason of a player dissapearing. Overall it’s complicated

Alright so while PS3 and 4 versions do have some graphical differences, the game itself is slightly affected too

The sand is way more sparkly and the sand grains flow naturally on PS3 but on PS4 the sand looks softer and the grains are static

However PS4 runs at 1080p 60fps while PS3 runs at 720p 30fps (but both frame rates really suit the game, unique case)

The game itself is more linear than Sky but it allows some freedom within the levels. You can meet up to one player (companion) who you can stick with the entire journey. Their name is not revealed until the end

If you lose that companion (say, they disconnect or you stray too far from each other) you can connect with someone else in the vicinity

If it's the latter case you can reunite if lucky enough to guess where each other could be

I knew tgc didn't port it but it's the first time I hear the "no idea" part

Well no idea is just me wording things badly lol

One of the compromises made in the original PS3 version was the resolution of the sand texturing, which is procedurally generated. For surfaces near or low to the camera the illusion of sand was often broken by texture magnification - so we opted to use some of the extra power available on PS4 to double the resolution of this system. The result is a finer grained surface (like sand!) at the loss of some of the coarseness you sometimes see in the original. You can see see this improvement most clearly in the open sections of the dune surfing section after 'landing' (level 4).

The removal of the motion blur was intentional and carefully considered. The post process motion blur of the original gave a very different feel at 60FPS. It's difficult to describe but it really detracted from the cinematic style - it just really stuck out as an obvious post process effect at 60. The best way I can describe it is being akin to switching on some of the frame processing on an old movie with a modern LED display - the effect started to make Journey feel like a modern racing title and really compromised the original artist vision. Additionally with the increase to 1080p, a global increase in anisotropic filtering and a reduction in texture compression the game gained a new solidity and clarity - a lot of this got lost when re-enabling motion blur, so we stuck with the much more natural blur from POV at 60.

And sometimes when you shout/call no sound comes out of it. In the ancenstor cutscenes parts of the glyth are slightly deformed

I'd say the port is rushed, or the team did not know how the game worked in some areas and decided to do some basic adjustments to it

That was some days ago. Too bad I can't remember a lot of the second half of the dream

It was when I realised all the studying of its pre-release stages and such has really got into my head but oh well

What's really great with TGC's games is that oob still feels like part of the level or something new entirely

It's not just "oh fake low quality scenery, i fell through the ground"

And it's nice to explore what you are not meant to see once you did everything in a game

I went oob in the level and pushed the AI traveler from the end of the level to the top of the hill across the level

You can't meet a companion in the first level but you can see an NPC at the end of the level running at the end of the corridor

But there's always an NPC at the end of the first level (but unless you go to them through oob, you can't get close)

You begin to connect with people as soon as you drop from the entrance at the next level ^^

It's nice how most of the level works. I mean you can watch some beta visions and play through it flawlessly but a lot of SFX are missing and it has no music

And the bottom of objects that touch the sand turns white instead of gradually turning into the sand's color

What's nice is that you are taken to the slide level as it's intended instead of a crash/freeze. However you are always a tier 3 red robe after the ancestor cutscene because of the old mechanic of tiers (progressively increasing your tier after meeting each ancestor instead of after each journey like in the final game)

Journey and Sky are so similar story-wise (and not only) I suspected how Journey would end the moment I saw a big mountain resembling Eden in the distance ww (I played Sky before I played Journey). The way that story is portrayed in Journey, though, seems darker to me (which I’m all for), I suspect because Sky was supposed to be more or less family friendly ^^

You can hide from the guardians, but once they spot you, you’re doomed as in, you can’t find a hiding spot after they notice you, like you can with krills. What makes them scary to me personally (although I also think they’re beautiful in a way) is how huge they are huge machines flying in the air is one of my childhood fears ghgh

Well there's no thing such as soft lock in journey. You can go and finish the level as usual

Most of the triggers do not depend on others luckily. So even if you skip an entire level oob you can still conplete it by touching the "next level" trigger

Those war machines won't be able to break the barrier. I may not look like it, but never underestimate the knowledge of a fellow Journey player.

I prefer flOw by the way. It's background is much more relaxed and calm than Journey. It was definitely worth my purchase.

Journey has a higher production value and is more elegant. I was a little disappointed to learn while playing Journey that Sky is so thoroughly derivative of Journey. It lowered my opinion of Sky just a little. Now especially with the new Sky update, the standards for game immersion have dropped a lot. It's more of a chat world. Emotes are now free to be used while seated, leading to unnatural and impossible body motions and positions. There are way more bugs. The special effects are more cartoonish and inconsistent.

I agree with Paul Sky on calling Sky thoroughly derivative of Journey, it's quite a good definition, but I don't think it's a bad thing!

Personally I actually don't mind that aspect at all (I can understand TGC wanting to do so to further explore the concept, which I love, and I think it's understandable from a creator-point-of-view), but all the small events that go against the general atmosphere and feeling of the game... that is kinda painful. Specially when thinking about all the graphical concessions being made to make it a mobile game

I try to separate both sides in sky, the social/merch part and the story/world itself, and in this way I can enjoy it more! I think each game has their own strengths, and the combined experience is the best!

(And, who knows, maybe TGCs next game will be the perfect middle ground between Sky and Journey )

In relation to this, since the beginning of the year you cannot purchase anything from these consoles directly as it'll show an error when confirming a purchase. You have to visit the PS store from a PS4/5, a PC or your phone and add funds from there to your account. Afterwards you can make your purchase from a PS3, PSP or Vita

In order to obtain the White Cloak you need to collect all 21 Symbols in the game. Depending on what platform, it will be the Transcendence achievement/trophy. While the War Machines may like eating your scarf, it won’t affect you in that sense, apart from making it more difficult to fly.

You have to go into your iPad settings and scroll down till you get to the game center, there you can set it up.

Nevertheless doing that didn't work for me completely until I linked Game Center to Sky. ONLY then I managed to give further permission to the Game Center app thing (a popup windown appeared when I linked it to Sky).

Days later, in the middle of a Journey playthrough, I got a popup window while playing asking me more permission stuff. The next time I launched Journey it finally logged with the Game Center account and I finally met a companion.

I am not 100% sure of this process and this is quite of a resumed version of everything I had to do in my iPad until I maneged to meet someone. Feel free to DM me if you still have problems.

My explanation is not the most useful thing in the world, but I'm afraid there's not a lot of info yet about the iOS version and all its problems, so we can just fidget with the settings and pray

The best way to get the|| White Robe|| is to find a kind companion that will guide you though the levels, because some symbols are well hidden!

If you have a companion and you see them chirping and going in a "strange" direction, maybe they're trying to show you something

Moreover! If you go to the hub/chapter select section you will see a little ruin with tiny glowing square-thingies (on your right as you enter from the tutorial/desert). ||Looking there you can see how many symbols you are missing, as each square lights when you collect a symbol for the first time! ||

I guess in addition to what Wolfy said, Sky has features that are more heavily dedicated to replayability (daily quests, a lot of collectibles in the constellations, as well as seasons and events)

In terms of interactions amongst players, the friend interactions in Sky include hand-holding, hug, piggyback etc. And Sky has emotes and chirping, whereas Journey sticks with just chirping. Sky also has musical instruments, and extra customisations with stance, appearance etc.

With Journey, the design is a bit more centred around you, and the other player, and the environment you’re in. (Marking as spoiler for Journey as it might detail too much if you haven’t played) || There are parts where the creatures in Journey follow you around/lead a little. When you’re in the snow, your cloak frosts and stiffens, and you leave harsh jagged lines in the snow when you walk, compared to the flowing lines in the sand. These can help a lot with the sense of immersion, and attachment to the world.

The music is also more coordinated with your experience; the volume of the harp and viola in the mix increases with the proximity of the other player to you, for example.|| And the areas in Journey can feel much larger and create for more seamless exploration, as Sky appears to have split up the level stages most probably because of mobile device constraints

I generally prefer Journey's online aspect as it doesn't force any rules (whereas Sky has rules like puzzles with multiple players)

And in Sky I feel very pressured when someone raises their candle fearing I might get a friend request

The 8 player puzzles are such an overkill honestly. As much as I love Sky I truly hate those puzzle requirements. They make me really angry at the game

In Journey you could do everything yourself, the companion only made it easier and brought a unique experience (as each person is different)

At least only a couple of puzzles require 8 players as far as I've seen and they're optional but still. It's near impossible for players who are not very social like me and wasting time is what makes me angry mostly

I'm not going to criticize the devs for that, because programming the game is very difficult, but I find it very annoying

They’re a small team, they can only work on on platform at a time, which is why sky for switch didn’t release alongside iOS or android, and they have stated that due to android software limitations it is impossible to add the headphones to the version of the game. The same thing goes for screen recording and photos. Portrait mode is not something in the live version of the game at all

Im late but that’s hard no for x86 and x64 computers. Sky is only built to be run on ARM processors, like phones, tablets, and a very small collection of PCs. New macs and some chromebooks are able to run it, but only because they have the guts of a tablet rather than a standard Intel x64 processors

The reason why it’s being put on Nintendo Switch is due to it using an arm processor like that in a phone or tablet.

To put in perspective of what it would take for a PC and console port, they would have to rebuild the source code to run on the different cpu architecture, and then simultaneously keep up both arm and x64 builds on all platforms. I don’t think TGC has a large enough team to do that. The best way to play it on PC (besides streaming) is the get a laptop with an arm processor, like 2020 Macs and Surface Pros.

Alternatively you could use something that translates code built for ARM to x64, but I don’t think something like that exists yet. I know apple made the reverse to ease their transition to ARM, but I don’t think you’re able to run code built for arm on x64 yet

I have flOw, Flower and Journey on PS3/4 and also Journey on Steam

I mainly play Journey on PS3 cuz it has my most favorite visuals and music plays properly. Also I don't have a PC which contributes to not playing there

But I played a couple of journeys on pc when I had one

I just noticed that in journey when a companion leaves the game, they kneel down for several seconds and then turn to sand and disintigrate into a little pile. What an incredible detail!

You just randomly come across other players in the game.

You have to activate your game center account in your iPad/iPhone settings beforehand.
When you launch the game, a notification bubble should appear saying you logged in with your game center account.
If you don't have that notif. you may have to fiddle around a bit. If you do have the notif. then all is working properly and you just have to wait for good luck, though the stabily connection that game center provides is dreadful
