FOMO is an active problem from Sky (and one of the reasons I stopped playing until Duets), that can't be denied, afaik the efforts done to try an mitigate it are alternative of the items, like the permanent instruments in Harmony Hall, reimagines of ults and whatnot

i keep comparing sky with other popular games that A) pump out seasons every month and B) require spending 100s of dollars on exclusive stuff PER season that induce fomo. While sky is not perfect by any means, this game feels less FOMOy compared to some others i've played. This is what all games do, they add exclusivity to make us spend. This is not just a Sky or TGC issue

I compare it to what it's core value stated: Social games. Imo, not to be rude towards the game or devs, the game falls flat compared to others

Like my logic here is that it's a digital item at the end of the day, I can live without it and it's more of a treat to myself whenever I do decide to buy a IAP, and even then it's from my Fun Money rather than food and bills... idk... i find the social aspect mirrors real life in some way. Not everyone will want to speak to you or develop friendships with you. And if they agree to socialize with you, you do need to put in effort (or candles) in order to grow friendships. Again maybe i just got lucky, but i managed to find incredible people absolutely randomly, and we willingly spent hundreds of candles on each other (even though i've only been playing for a year and still very much in candle debt or missed spirits because of it, but i truly didn't mind because at the end of the day these people keep me coming back to play daily). I do hope that the friendship tree system gets a revamp cause uhh 30 candles for a cradle carry or a bow feels expensive as heck.

I haven't been able to find a game like Sky, that includes the social aspect with a very chill game that's not combat/shooter focused. Maybe sky needs a healthy competition to start making changes faster? Like Sims franchise is finally getting worthy competitors and they ramped up their bug fixing and actually trying to making a game a bit more lively

There's also the fact that collecting things has become one of the main fundamentals. Collecting daily currency(or miss out on items), dress up your character, buy props and spells to make memories. Even collecting spirits, winged lights, emotes, etc, etc

Sky has a LOT of fomo. You miss the traveling spirit… because you didn’t have candles? because you didn’t have the time the weekend it appeared cause of exams? Tough luck, wait for 3 years! You missed an event? Tough luck, the cosmetics will return a year later for you to get another chance at getting them.
Sky has such a big fomo problem with cosmetics because other than catering to collectors, musicians, and socializers, it doesn’t cater to anyone else.
I think Sky really needs to expand its archetype roles. It is supposed to be “open world” exploration and yet the world is dead with nothing to do. I get from a story perspective that’s Sky, but gameplay wise it’s like they took a game that should have been a standalone and dragged it out for 6+ years.

No, honestly. I love exploring and I was fascinated with the concept. It's just the sad reality that it's not a game someone can play daily without getting burnt (except for a couple). As I got closer to eden and ran out of stuff to do, it's devolved into cr, saving for cosmetics and instruments, and weekly eden runs. The moments where I get to socialize with a random gray sky, I cherish tbh

I feel the same! I was attracted to Sky because of the flying mechanic, being able to freely fly across the sky and explore just felt like such an amazing idea. And yet it feels like so much is missing from the exploration.

I love Skys lore too, but I feel like we beg for lore crumbs a bit too often.

It has to be noted that we had a change with how we interact with strangers for a long while now!

Back then we were able to see the cape strangers were wearing but that got changed, people kept getting harassed for their old/rare capes and moths often ignored

Yes, ultimately this is how Sky keeps you in game. Again, I'm not saying sky is perfect, but they have mechanisms in place where everything is achievable at any pace. I've been playing for a 1.5 years, and I still have to make choices about what i can get based on how long I can play. It's difficult to start out in Sky and to avoid temptations of getting cosmetics. I do think eventually in the future Sky will revamp their spirit systems. Even this year they seem to be bringing many spirits back in groups so that people have options of getting stuff in case they missed the past ones. But please don't burn yourself out by aiming to get everything. It's just not feasable and that is okay

Yea I’m never spending on gacha games. I don’t ever mind spending money in sky and I buy a lot of things and I’m happy they don’t do gacha.
But, still I wish they could expand the game out a bit.

I think you kinda put into words what I wish Sky had more of. Just generally more to do in the world itself, something that can continue the story past the point of no return. It feels like everything ended at Eden, but there's so much that could be added in the world that doesn't have to become it's own seasonal event

I think that kind of FOMO is actually a problem. It causes this weird obsession in the community too. I still remember the amount of times, people splurged on something cause they thought it was going to be once forever thing, only for it to come back.
Then you have players mad about it and wars in the community.
Not to mention how that FOMO makes people grind and then they leave or drop the game (had a lot of friends that did this)

I have never able to get into sky’s music for some reason. I always sit in front of my piano and think, it would be better if I had used that time to learn a real life instrument instead.

So I never play instruments in sky.

I don’t hang out with friends everyday, but I do spend time with them and during that time, we do.. nothing but chill and spam emotes. Which gets boring after a while.

I have one or two really close friends.

Honestly, sky is too empty because of this. Too much of the game is built on collecting. Even though, I enjoy the collecting. It feels like we’re always waiting for substance.

The variety for Eden runs is the shards and they are fun to do with others. Some of them are challenging and you need other players or shared memories to make sure you’re not loosing light.

Vertical flight is possible on Switch and PS, it requires crazy reflexes cuz the controllers don't recognize two inputs at the same time so there needs to be a precise timing between the jump and flight toggle.

The key for vertical is to start flight while sliding, as long as you do that, you can do it, its required, you can even fail and reajust in the air (like i do in this vid here)
Its easier to look for a tutorial on youtube because explaining in words is really hard

And for controllers, you have to let go of the movement button as soon as you do it otherwise your sky kid will stop doing it immediatly

Well, it's been quite abit since I last did it, I just hope I can remember

So, first you need to run and jump in any way, so that your Skykid slides, when you slide, you have to hold the jump button, open flight mode and pull back on the Joystick really fast
