so, just kinda trying to predict the future based off the game's current mechanics and trends with revival season - we have quests that require other season quests, and only 1 left for thi season but a ton of aviary to expand on.
I wonder if the next season will be like an aviary season 2 with.. a new guide? that might actually require you to finish aviary season 1 quests, which will be very different than seasons being like... separate from eachother.

or maybe it'll be disconnected enough that you're allowed to fix the second set of things in aviary before the first if you really wanted

Problem is, none of the spirits who look like the Blushing Prospector's partner there have been ascended by Ana. They demonstrated this in their initial message with screenshots. #seasons-events-chat message

So BP's partner is functionally a 4th entity that looks like but is not a constellation spirit. IDEK what in the game's programming is deciding it has to look ascended since its absence from any constellation means BP's partner can't be ascended at all.

This is a big deal because another spirit who comes by in Aviary Village, the Confident Sightseer, has a child spirit that accompanies them both in memory and in the village. But that child spirit doesn't look ascended at all.

Some spirits will appear in other spirits' memories (e.g. Boogie Kid and Confetti Cousin showing up in Sparkler's memory at the end), but there still hasn't been a good pinpoint of who that blank spirit next to Blushing Prospector would be based on the unascended spirits discussed above (Ceremonial Worshipper, Manta Whisperer, Whale Whisperer)

Again, I have no clue what's making this happen. But a key difference between Prospector's and Sightseer's memories is in their memory cut scenes: Prospector's partner is not present in the cut scene, but Sightseer's kid is. Maybe that has something to do with it, but again, all I can do is speculate.

This has been a very buggy season as it is, and I'm still surprised that the typical mid-season update (which usually brings bug fixes) has only been released for the PC demo. We're 3 weeks from the end of the season and the only news about future stuff is Days of Feast (already in 0.23.4 based on appearance of Home) and plans for 2024. I don't think 0.23.5 is gonna come out at all for the rest of us.

Yeah, and what makes it even more weird is: the child spirit that runs around with Confident Sightseer isn't exhibiting this behavior. That child spirit has the same role mechanically in Sightseer's memory as the Prospector's partner does; an additional actor in the pathway portion.

But a key difference is that Prospector's partner does not appear at the cut scene after the pathway, while the Sightseer's child does. And the child spirit doesn't look ascended in either the memory or at the village.

I'm not saying that's an explanation, but just comparing two spirits who appear in Aviary Village with a 1-person entourage.

I don't think the Dismayed Hunter does either -- that might make these two particularly suspect from your set of ascended spirits (Dismayed Hunter in particular shares the same base body as the mystery spirit, while Saluting Captain does not)

Forgive the late ping, but I may need a reminder at a later date: I've just set up a new moth that can be used to test ascending a different spirit, but looks like Blushing Prospector isn't in today's Aviary rotation after reset. Feel free to ping me as a reminder to check on a day where they're back in Aviary.

Test moth in question is particularly bizarre: I've made the kid only relive Dismayed Hunter right now, to see if just Prospector's buddy will show up in Aviary on their own if Prospector hasn't been relived. If not, I'll relive Prospector as well before testing if getting Hunter's wing buff will ascend the unknown spirit (i.e. checking if any random spirit can ascend the unknown one, or if it looks to be Candlemaker specifically)

I think Stoat's pinpointed the actual identity of Blushing Prospector's picnic friend in Aviary: seems to be a bald clone of the Pointing Candlemaker (even if the actual Candlemaker is always in Aviary making more candles once you've relived his memories).

I just ran a few tests of my own and found the following:

• Picnic friend will not show up in Aviary if Blushing Prospector has not been relived
• Picnic friend will show up in Aviary if Prospector has been relived, even if you haven't relived Candlemaker's memories
• Reliving and ascending Dismayed Hunter still leaves the picnic friend blue (so Stoat's second guess about the picnic friend turning yellow if you've ascended any spirit wouldn't be correct)
• Stoat's own test (in the message I'm replying to) only ascended the Pointing Candlemaker, so it'd therefore either be the Pointing Candlemaker specifically (most logically intuitive answer), or else he's one of several spirits who can ascend the picnic friend (less likely, but hasn't been completely ruled out with the available info so far)
