It’s the Little Prince’s actual cape. The Little Prince is from an asteroid.
The “planets” you can go to in the realm the cape takes you to are CALLED asteroids (as you float around, a thing pops up that says “asteroid B32” or whatever).

The cape itself looking like a galaxy or planets etc. wouldn’t make any sense considering the STORY behind the book/movie.
