The shards are colored black or red (stays the same color the whole day), black shards are easy shards that reward normal wax for white candles

Red shards are harder shards that spawn with various hazards (red rocks, radiant shards, shard crabs, swirling shards) and are needed to complete seasonal quests. This is the only shard that has these light activities and reward ascended candles
