My two cents: People who think AI "democratises" art assume that they have a right to generate output without effort. No one has a right to that. Art should be accessible in the sense that no one should be prevented from picking up a pencil and paper and expressing themselves. generative images will continue to improve, and we'll all find new and interesting ways to love and hate the technology. my perspective is as a highly trained traditional artist, but I have to grant that AI may be granting access to expression that a lot of people don't have. it's a very disruptive technology, and is going to be used in a lot of irresponsible ways, but it's still possible to explore new tech with an eye to ethics and integrity

I agree gen AI can be used as a tool, I was just saying that a generated image isn't the same thing as a drawn one. It obviously doesn’t stop someone using gen AI to e.g. generate particular reference pictures that they can't otherwise get or simulate lighting or whatever, and in that way it can be useful. But if someone is an artist, I expect they will still want to create the art themselves. The process of making is an integral part of art, and imo someone who is only looking for output is just that, not a creator
