Difficult to say exactly, but I guess a masked curves or levels adjustment layer, increase the exposure, and reveal with a white brush the area you want to brighten

It's pretty crude as a compositing technique though 🙂

If there's no appetite for a live server, and a set of users, moderators and admins willing to put the work in (Like this server, which have been set up by Adobe, with their money)
Then it will never happen, unless you can find (or create yourself) an unofficial server. At one point, I guess there's no incentive for them to create one.

If you look at Blender for example: The free, open source 3D software. There's a thriving commmunity, and I would say 99.99% of the help out-there is done by volunteers. They are commited, they want to make it work.
If that's not the case for Photopea, then that means that people aren't that interested in the app in the first place.

Start with the inbuilt tutorials witnin Photoshop, as @chilly kernel rightly shared (Help > hands-on tutorials) or use the maginfying glass icon at the top right of the interface to open the "learn" Panel.
They build strong fundations, meaning that any subsequent tutorial will be a breeze.

Then head off to complete Photoshop courses from PixImperfect, or PHlearn (good mention to to "bring your own laptop" as well) all on Youtube

Once you've taken a full course, you'll be able to choose the kind of content you need, because it will depend what you are learning for: Retouching, graphic design, illustration...

Once you've chosen a path: if you want to do retouching: Have a minimum knowledge about Photography, the two are linked. If you don't already have it -> learn
same with graphic design: Learn about generic principles of graphic design, the software doesn't make a designer... Critical thinking does.
And for illustration too! If you can't hand-draw with pen and paper, you will not achieve anything with Photoshop.

Your question is not entirely clear. 4K resolution (usually referring to UHD) corresponds to 3840 x 2160 pixels.

In any case, it is advantageous for screen-based projects to think in terms of pixels rather than resolution.

for simple shadows like this one you can use drop shadow:
Select Layer: Click on the layer you want to add a shadow to in the Layers Panel.
Open Styles: Click the fx icon at the bottom of the Layers Panel and choose Drop Shadow, or right-click the layer and select Blending Options.
Adjust Settings: In the Drop Shadow dialog box, customize:
Opacity: Controls transparency (0-100%).
Distance: How far the shadow is from the object.
Spread: Controls edge harshness/intensity.
Size: Adjusts the blur (larger = softer).
Angle: Sets the light source direction; check Use Global Light for consistency.

I'm having an issue where Photoshop displays checkers (Transparency & Gamut) when doing digital painting, only resolved by disabling said grid feature. it vanishes as an exported as image, ie, the checkers are gone, and I've just clean installed my GPU drivers to the extent of using DDU. The issue ceases when booting from old GPU Mode or disabling my GPU in Photoshop, but the whole reason I use it over Clip Studio for digital painting is the strong performance the GPU enables. I'm baffled and out of ideas and looking for someone who might have an idea as to what's going on.

Also, I have clean installed Photoshop, and I've even seen the issue stick through downgrading to another version. I have no idea what's going on at this point.

I don't know. The things that were suggested were potential ways to fix it. If this continues, you might need to try something else. There are "last resorts" such as using the Adobe CC Cleaner app to uninstall and clear the system of every CC component and then reinstalling from scratch. However, you might want to contact Adobe Customer Care first to see if they have any other ideas.

Yes I did and I am aware of the other grid. Here's a better look at the issue. These screeenshots are edited for clarity's sake as the checkers appeared on much lighter marks, but the point is made clear. A certain gray value is shown in the canvas as having transparency checkers, though this issue does not persist upon being exported, so it seems to be a view glitch of some kind.

Open the image in Photoshop. Go to: Filter > Convert for Smart Filters (converts to a Smart Object Layer). Then go to Filter > Camera Raw Filter.... Open the "Light" section and tweak those sliders. Click "OK" when finished. Save the PSD file. Export > Export As to other formats.

This looks like a fine image... Don't forget that they were destined to be printed at the time. There was no screens, with an over contrast look, available to look at them from.
If printed on photo paper, you'd always loose some details and the tone range always was more narrow than it is on a screen. Also some images were printed so they could be transfered for mass offset printing, so too much contrast at the laboratory printing stage would have been detrimental to the accurate reproduction with halftones.

I quite like these softer tones for themselves as well...

But given the size/ratio of the image, and seeing that it's seems to be a contact print (not 100% sure) it could be taken with a large format camera, one where you would typically step away from when taking the image, meaning that you are necessarily aware of anything coming into the frame after they composed the shot.

They are fun files. Developed 40 years ago September, support files up to 4GB without using BIFTIFF, can double as PDFs, and is widely compatible.

I work a lot with photographers, not all of them are using Photoshop (believe it or not). Some use just Lightroom or Capture One. Tiffs files may be old and grumpy, but in those circumstances, they do the job.

In order to "recover" something, it would have to be captured in the first place. Only possible if you have RAW pixel data. And even then it would be difficult. If you use AI, it would only invent details and contours that didn't actually exist.

Sorry. As Franck said, there is no forensic reconstruction on images. Unless you've captured the thing in RAW mode then camera settings can be tweaked after-the-fact. The data would have to be there but be under/over-exposed, etc.

My "opinion" is based on using Photoshop for decades in professional scenarios both creatively and technically as a software engineer. Software is software. It has features. If you want to learn how to use those features, you will. If you don't, you won't. But Photoshop, at it's core, is not that different. You push pixels, mostly by painting on Layers and Layer Masks. Everything else is a "workflow" that gets you from Point A to Point B.

In terms of it being "difficult" - most apps are "difficult" until you learn how to use it. Unless you want some app with an "Easy Button" that does everything for you.

The big issue with computer graphics is separating the artistic portions of the work from the technical portions. Often you have to learn how to use the tool before you can actually work creatively with it. In that respect, all the tools are similar. It's probably not always to going to show the Smart Guides unless there is something it thinks is appropriate to show... like snapping to an edge or something. If its a matter of scaling it at specific size/aspect/proportion, you could just use the type-in fields and scale it to 50% without trying to drag it.

Remembering all the versions I've got, I would rate CS4 and CS6 the best of the pre-subscription era. I myself clung on to CS6 for a long time (It was an investment - I think it was around £400 at the time, so you wanted it to last)
However, things have really moved on - for the better - since, and it would be a real shame to go back to that...

I get you, but it's tricky. When you use it in a professional capacity, you need all the improvements you can. Having to pay that amount of money that it was every one or two years was really draining, so you ended up with missing features.

You can see that it was really expensive (If you already got full versions, updates were cheaper)
