I have read that GIMP is going soon come out with a huge update that emulates PS non-destructive features among other things. But even with that, I consider GIMP to PS being a massive upgrade. But starting out, I'm glad I used GIMP as much as I'm glad to use PS now even though I wish I converted earlier.

A major difference is in PS you see live previews of what will happen with alterations most of the time and it's just more user friendly. Also, I doubt GIMP will have a remove tool as effective as PS's. And PS makes selecting stuff massively eaiser which using that for masks is the most used part of PS for me, GIMPS magic wand and scissors are not missed at all.

Professionally, logos are created as vector graphics. Shapes created with anchor points, line segments with trajectories. They are assigned colors and strokes as opposed to filling an area on a grid area (pixels) with color values.

I would create a logo with vector graphics. Not "painting it" with pixel-based tools.

You can use the Pen Tool in Photoshop. In Shape Mode.

Typically, we would use Adobe Illustrator but Photoshop can do many vector operations with the Pen Tool and Direct Selection Tools for editing the shapes.

I would do some tutorials to get familiar with using the Pen Tool.

I'm working on creating a thumbnail and could use some creative input. I recently recorded a video during a cyclone (not literally inside the cycolen but before it starts), and I envision a thumbnail that features a realistic cyclone in the background( i dont have any images of a cyclone) with the subject prominently in the foreground. I'm aiming for a design that feels intense and a bit scary. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you want the Stroke Style to be semi-transparent, adjust the Opacity Control. Its currently set to 100%. That means fully visible.

If I have a 32bit exr and I want to edit it in PS, I need to lower the bit to 16 at least. If i do that, the colors all get messed up. I just have to put the gamma to 2.2 or how does that work?

Photoshop accepts 32 bit files. However you will lose access to lots of features, so it depends what you want to do with the file

If you need features that are available in Lightroom, you can try working in lightroom instead, as far as I know all grading/retouching options are available for 32 bits too. Just check it out, I am not 100% sure (16 bits is quite usual in my line of work, 32 bits not really)

You can also try to open the file using ACR in Bridge, and work from there, see if it transfers to 32 bits without conversion when you choose to "open" the file in Photoshop from the ACR main menu.
I could test that, but unfortunately, I don't have any 32 bit file available.
Also, it might be possible to save your .exr as a DNG, as DNGs are easily open with either PS, Lightroom or ACR. It's their common format for converting high bit depth images

I made an adjustment layer and turned saturation all the way to the left which made everything grey. How do I make the apples red and that be the only thing in the picture with color?

There should be a Layer Mask for the Adjustment Layer. Activate the mask by clicking on it. Get the Brush Tool, set the color to absolute black. Paint with black over the area where the apples are.

If that was in front of me I would want to play around with a dark blue to dark teal gradient to make it Tim Butony/nightish play around with the opacity/blend modes to make it more subtle and then see what it looks like when I exclude the guy and wolf from that gradient with a mask. Or one of those color lookup adjustment/load 3-D LUT things like moonilight or night from day in the same manner or in addition to. Maybe it will be cool but then again maybe not lol

I was looking for a way to generate pixel art with image ai models.
Asking for pixel art resulted in unusable art.
So I made a bit of research and found a post on OpenGameArt that was talking about how asking pixel drawing to these kind of ai models is not ideal.
So I brainstormed a bit.
Square Canvas size is 1024px x 1024px in DALL-E
So I tried a few prompt and came up with this base one:

Draw a Karateka
Use squares of 16x16px to draw, use a grid system, each square has a plain color.
"

Here are the results:
First picture is the AI output
Second picture is the image resized in Photoshop with nearest neighbor to 128x128px.

So it's definitely possible to achieve usable results and refine them in Photoshop.

If the logo is solid, the easiest method is to select it using the Pen Tool or Quick Selection Tool, cut it out, and then apply a solid black color. then, clip the black color to the cutout layer.

Imagine instead of having to press x all the time while making masks to switch from black to white you had a dedicated mechanical button that stays down when you tap it for black or press it again and it stays slightly elevated for white. Generative fill credit are common for a still image needs, so whatever you have in you credit purse can be used for both (videos are a different matter)

However, one generation doesn't necessarily equal one credit. It may depend on the extend or complexity, and some things like the remove tool don't take any credit as far as I rememeber

If you need to just remove the colour, then have a look at methods using hue/saturation, colour replacement tool or gradient maps to align the colour of the area to that of the skin (It will be fiddly)

I understand what you mean. I actually found the person who was helping me before in this very discord server actually. It’s just a bunch of markups including PDFs and navigating thru complex layer masks. Not easy to describe everything publicly ofc but this is the abridged version of it.

That’s a great way to learn! Recreating and tweaking existing projects helps you understand the process and build confidence. Over time, as you gain more experience, ideas will start coming naturally. I’ve always used Photoshop to fulfill specific needs, and a blank canvas used to feel intimidating to me. Creating something from nothing is really challenging!

Okay, so this is a pretty technical question. I'm going to share two pictures—one is AI-generated, and the other is the original. The only difference between them is the texture on the truck itself (scratches, bumps, dirt).
Is there a way to transfer those textures to the AI-generated image using layering, deep masking techniques, or any other advanced method? I want to specifically target those areas and transfer them exactly as they appear in the original image.
To clarify, I’m not looking to regenerate these textures with AI, as they would be random. I need the exact same textures from the original image to be applied to the AI-generated one.

You can just copy those ares that you want from the original and put it on top of ai generated photo. play with opacity, add some blur if needed (make it a smart object first), use layer mask. transformation, warp. I think that's gonna work.

Have you tried with the Generative AI? if the area is either big or very busy, content aware fill isn't ideal

Difficult to say here. I found that sometimes the "guidelines" filter was a bit random. buty mostly with people in shorts (bare legs) or tank tops (arms)

I also find using the content aware command instead of the fill gives much more control. (fill as in edit> fill> content aware , instead of content -aware fill, depending on the one you used. I prefer the latter)

I generally don't do thing for people, just on principle. I can tell you how to do it. Sometimes you have to do things manually as well. I mean with the good old clone stamp tool (or take areas from another photo)

Premiere Pro is for editing video clips and creating sequences of videos, doing color grading, adding audio sweetening, etc. Basically, general video production work. After Effects would be for creating any difficult effects shots that require chroma-key and similar compositing, complex motion graphics, etc. They work together or can be used together.

I have 2 8GB Kingston HyperX FURY DDR4 sticks and would really like to get more be it another 8GB or 16GB but I do not know if it has to match size, brand or even model. They don't have to be the same brand name. Just the same type/speed. Also, most motherboards require you to add sticks in pairs. So you should read up on the specs for your motherboard.

You'll need to check the total capacity and speed. I'm assuming you have 4 slots on there but I don't know.

Maybe you'll find a deal for two sticks of 16GB and you'll just take those out and replace them with the new ones.

I have 4 sticks of the same size, speed and brand but that's because mine have LED lights on them. And I like the glow and strobing in union. haha

But a total of 48 GB RAM would be so badass.
