Things to consider - broadly - First of all, if you are a student, you get great discounts on the subscription, or even completely free if your school as an education subscription of their own.

Secondly, the best tutorials are within Photoshop!

@twin anchor Regarding logos, while you can certainly learn the base things about composition, negative space and more technically how to handle the pen tool in PS, know that logos are generally done using Illustrator, mainsly because it can handle vectors way better than Photoshop does.

Everything that has to do with either text or vector, is better handled outside of Photoshop, unless it's simple/basic. As I said, you can certainly do stuff in Photoshop (I started there and spent a long time doing everything: Typography posters etc in Photoshop so I know about it) It's just that if you intend to do this in a professional capacity at some point, you will need to learn the "proper" tools, namely Illustrator and Indesign

Fortunately, the way the pen tool works is very similar in all 3 software so the skills you acquire in one, will be transferable to the others

Adobe site has a lot of helpful resources and tips. And of course if you’re open to it YouTube has a lot of advanced tutorials as well.

1. Remove the background and then put the subject on the color you want

2. just fill the background with what color you want

Probably not with this image. There isn't a lot contrast between the subject and the background. Thus, the automatic method for selection and masking are not going to work completely. It will require some clean up by painting on the mask.

What kind of configuration do you need? What to put in there will depend on the document you need.

Size, resolution, colour profile etc, all are valid, it's just depends what you want at the end

That said, for the sake of helping someone, one liners aren't very useful, and to be pedantic "300 dpi for print" is a - lazy - simplification. Most things aren't capable of printing 300 dpi, certainly not magazines. Only the printer can tell

Also RGB can mean many colour profiles, generally we talk about sRGB, but there are other sorts of RGB

For screens, the resolution doesn't matter anyway, it will be rendered by the device people will see it on, of which we have no control over. In that case only the pixel count, counts

They ask for 300 dpi because it's a "one size fits all" that will ensure nobody will give you something too small. Some may occasionnally ask for 600 dpi, specially for hi end fine art print (ie: illustration or Photography)

It depends on what you do. For packaging and fine art print, I would absolutely do. For more mundane stuff I think it's either on their website, or 300 dpi as a safety net

They will do the conversion in most cases

Also, I reckon I was being pedantic a bit on purpose. They get told 300 dpi and it's solid advice. You just need to know where it comes from. I am sure you do, but someone who asks for info like the OP did might not know

It might be because the brush is 2 pixels because it seems the higher pixel ones work fine

possibly. At such a small scale, the anti-aliasing of the brush tip is likely to cause more harm than good. one way to always get 100% opacity would be the pencil tool. but there, the corners aren't rounded

How much does it take to get proficient in ps? I have 2-3 years of experience in Lightroom and just started Illustrator 2 days ago.

I'd say that's what Photoshop is for though. You can do minor edits in Ps but I think it's more for full-scale image creation and manipulation. You can create something from nothing. With apps like LIghtroom, you're bringing in existing images.

Photoshop you can start from a blank screen and create whatever. Or composite multiple images together.

As far as "how much does it take...?" - I mean, its a big app with a lot of features. It can take a while to learn it all. It really depends on your goals.

It also helps not to just hear about every feature at once, but as you need to use a certain tool or feature, learn as you go. That will give you hands-on experience, and as you do more and more projects the easier it will become for you.

I wouldn't know. Even in Photoshop, I work mostly with numbers so the way they are presented aren't that important, although it is for people who do painting (like Maddy, which is why I remember she recommended one plugin she used in a livestream a while ago)

That said, Fresco, for example comes with a colour wheel by default, and I use it as well! 🙂 I guess it's not really a concern of mine.
I am not an illustrator so maybe I am not just the right audience 🙂

You could try the free versions and see if it improves your workflow. The fact that they may be outdated isn't relevant, they work for you or they don't. They can easily be installed and uninstalled if not working.
For photo retouching I use a couple of plugins that dates back from the early 2010, some scripts that are equally old, and they just make my life easier.

I already mentioned this above. I encourage you to read what I said. They want to do this with Photoshop apparently. Also, "auto-tracing" this is probably not going to deliver good quality results. The best way to produce an optimized shape for professional logo graphics is to manually create it.

Simpler how? If you're wanting software to automatically trace a bitmap and convert it to vector graphics, you'd need a tool like Adobe Express or Adobe Illustrator. The results may vary.

If you mean auto-trace it and turn a photo into an illustration, you'll need an AI tool to do that. At least with any sort of quality and coherence to the subject.

I highly recomend the extra headache to learn/use the shortcuts in the begining as it pays off very quickly despite being frustrating at first. And if you stick with it a pressure sensitive drawing tablet is a significant upgrade I wouldn't want to do without. It's something I would buy used if I had to do it again.

It likely has more to do with ROI than anything else. There isn't enough money in it for Adobe to invest the resources. It would be a huge hassle. Supporting Windows and MacOS is already enough of a headache.

Plus, I think they fundamentally don't want to do it for some reason because even their apps that run in the browser don't work on Chromium on Linux. I'm pretty sure that is deliberate.

Try to find the font or one that is similar. Then I would completely paint over that original text to remove it. After removing the old stuff, set new text with the words you want in its place.

Albums are a lot larger than a Polaroid, if that's what your intent was. But I realize that you're probably trying to fit the label/text in there. If both are important design elements, you might want to consider a different composition or aspect ratio. Just spit-balling here.

Correcting colours is either called "colour corrrection" (who knew? 😉) or "grading" (grading is a term borrowed from video production I think)

so you can start searching with the right words, it helps!

Generally, people have that issue when they are using the Opera browser (on Windows). The Adobe website can't correctly detect your OS and it defaults to the DMG installer which is only for MacOS.
