#❓ask-a-question

Yep. Always gotta contrast learning with experimentation. Thank you again 💙
You're welcome!
I'd just like to say I love the threshold function. Rather easy to apply and still one of the coolest looking effects
Halftones, threshold, gradient maps , careful cut outs and a sense of composition: You can make a full carreer out of that!
I would like to separate this tattoo, any tip on how could I achieve this?
I've tried playing around with filters to make the difference between the tattoo and the body clearer, and then use magic wand to pick the tattoo but to no avail
Maybe I could manually cut it out
It might've not been a good choice
With a slightly better use of the pen tool I've achieved this, recommendations/tips are welcome
i want to recreate this paper looking style but how do i do that? Normal noise doesn't give me that style.
and i can't seem to find any tutorials leading to this specific style
Draw the shapes. Then use textures (images) for the paper. Then clip the textures to the shapes.
I would just start by drawing the shapes. You can use the Shape Tools and the Pen Tool. I would do that first and worry about the paper textures as a secondary step.
I don't have any problems with the shapes, the only struggle i currently face is finding a texture/filter which gives me the same style. I tried the "Texturizer" from the filter gallery too, but it gives me this which is also not what I'm looking for. I need some way to recreate that weird noise-like filter.
I think i found another solution which i hadn't thought of yet because of you. Thanks!
I'm suggesting that you use actual images of paper. Find a white paper texture. Then you can use Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layers to colorize them.
Yeah i did that. Thanks a lot! you saved me some time.
You could also use Generative Fill / Generate Image in Photoshop conjure them. :)
Oooohhh, I will def try that later.
I do have another question for you (if you have time)
Sure
Are you familiar with compositions?
I don't know if this image is more like a pyramid shape or a v-arrangement.
Halftone issue
Hey guys, so i am trying to make a sort of design where u can see dots on a black and while model but the thing is that every time i do the half tone it doesnt work. I apply it directly on the model but by doing a 50% gray fill on a new layer it basically does the same, i think theres something wrong with my halftone
halftone pattern: size4, contrast0
torn edges: image balance25, smoothness20, contrast7
before->after halftone+torn edges
Are you trying to make a t-shirt?
no
Ah never mind then.
just learning to make cool designs why
Halftones are used to do screen printing sometimes
yeah thats true, in my case its more for my contest's logo
but this issue is killing me
Gotcha
i think the issue is in the fact that when both the filter effects applied it looks very well not defined and whiteish and meek?its supposed to look like this (second picture from a youtube video)
It's probably more like a pyramid composition. However, the main focal point is centered.
Thanks
YALLLL I FIXED ITT SORT OF
(i had to pick my main color as black cuz i had it at GREY)
i just accidently closed a file without saving it, photoshop is still open. Am i screwed?
If you haven't saved it, its done.
Time to remake it i guess
Ps will ask before you close it. If you say "no" its a no.
It def asked that yet i still managed to click the wrong button.
If you save to the Cloud as PSDC, it will save iteratively. However, you still need to save the file initially. Actually, do File > Save.... Photoshop won't do anything like that automatically.
I was just stupid not to save it before starting to work on it. I'm not making that mistake again.
Hey, I'm not sure if this is something simple or not im new new. Is it possible to add this gradient (something someone made for me but not as a .gradient.) to this triangle pattern!
You could create a Gradient Layer and clip it to the transparent image...
If that is the sort of thing you're trying to do.
ah okay thanks, I will need to find a way to make it look like this one. Only cause the person who made it has stopped so I dont know how he did it...
This is how you'd do that first part.
OMG! Your amazing thank you so much!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @ripe quest (current: #3 - 2555)
By this one, you do not mean the center bottom one?
oh no, It was the bigger triangles that I wanted which thanks to D. Humann I was able to do. I'm sure the bottom center is a paintbrush as I dont have the triangle decal.
Ok, glad to hear that you are all set!
how come when i use the pen tool in PS it doesn't allow me to change the stroke or fill colors? like it usally does but idk what im doing wrong
could you open and share your layers panel?
Before tracing your vector path. Be sure to put your pen tool in "Shape" mode.
If you trace the path in path mode you can apply a stroke with the last brush tool used but don't have any control afterwards.
hello
any idea how can i remove the black part only
i want to keep the grey and white
Color Rage based on shadows> Hold alt and click on the Layer mask icon to make an inverted mask based on your selection.
I am creating an emissive map. How can I select the lines on this gauge quickly and easy? What is the shortcut?
select colour range
How do I clip this halftone pattern to get the exact effect as this?
Any help please?
As a beginner, maybe you can lasso out the part troubling you and adjust the hue and saturation in the properties panel.
That doesn't work
when I import this, it hides poster. how can I fix this issue?
Hi there, is there any number of limitations to generate pictures on photoshop in a day???
hi, may I ask why is it not showing my plan here?
it doesnt say manage plan like it should
Hi, alt+click between layer 4and the layer below. Check the advanced blending options of the lower layer, or duplicate it and remove some of the effects.
Hi, are you looking in the cc app, or online?
online
Hi, what are you trying to do? Create a new image? Then drag on top of the document tabs, not on the image.
Hi, I would clip and mask a fill layer with the color that you sample with the correct grey, set to color blend mode.
online
when I try to contact support it always says they are not avaliable
They say that if the have an issue processing payments, it might not show: https://helpx.adobe.com/manage-account/using/change-plan.html I would post in https://community.adobe.com/t5/account-payment-plan/ct-p/ct-account-payment-and-plan?page=1&sort=latest_replies&lang=all&tabid=all
Tried a different browser? Is it your own plan or a school one?
I see you have an Adobe for teams, are you the admin of the account?
It's possible that only the admin can manage the apps
I had missed it, thanks for your sharp eye!

If you are the admin, here is the step by step: https://helpx.adobe.com/enterprise/using/change-plan.html
Is it possible to apply camera raw on eberything except text or is there such thing?
I mean once we have all layers and join it into final image, I usually want more or less contrast on image but not on logo and text.
I kn ow I can move text layers up and logo, and keep rest down, than just from down ones create image and apply camera raw, but I ask if there is way in full and final image.
You'll need to make a single layer to be able to apply the filter. However, you can select all the layers, right click in the layers panel and choose to convert into a smart object, and apply the filter on that smart layer (You can group them first, duplicate the group and convert the dup into a smart layer if you prefer)
that way you keep the integrity of the layers and are able to apply a filter on the whole thing
I have it this way due to first workflow
- Product 1

-- Price - Product 2

Now, if I would to apply camera raw for image things separated (text and pictures), I would have to change my workflow to:

@vapid flume You talk about this one?
Which is not possible...
Because I want some brush coloring over text, which is over textual things too.
Actually, it is possible, but way too long workflow.
own plan, idk why it doesnt show
I was thinking of grouping everything after you finish everything and apply the filter at the end
also why support never avaliable?
Obviosuly you will decide what is best for you based on your needs
I have had them on the webchat on multiple occasions.
Maybe this the holidays and maybe there is a lot of queries and the two don't go together
yeah but I need support
well, what have you tried? The webchat?
yeah
maybe it's temporary?
and before holidays
have you tried @ adobecare on X or instagram? (remove the space between the @ and the rest)
The issue here is there is nothing we can really do as 1- we are volunteers and don't have access to your account 2- we aren't Adobe employees
ok let me try it
When you go to the webchat, at first you stumble on athe bot: you need to tell them you want to cancel your subscription and ask for a customer service agent
Otherwise you will still have the bot if they are short of staff
On the other hand you will have to wait
OK, I'm off! Lots of leftovers from yesterday still to eat, some wine to knock down. Have a happy holiday everyone!
Maybe could you copy the image layers, convert them to smart objects, then alt-drag to copy the Camera Raw filter on each one?
What would be the best way to create the Forests and trees on Photoshop? I can see there is a opacity difference between parts of the forests. I want to recreate it with the opacity difference aswell. Anyone has tips or knows a good tutorial on it?
Example:
My progress (my map):
Gradient Map
Or, draw first lighter green area, and add blur.
Than use soft brush and do dotting with darker green.
Which is probably better way.
Ive tried it with the Brush but i dont really get the result i am after 😅
This is low image quality, but it can be done that way.
To be faster you can use already dotted image, or dotted brush.
Ahh thanks! I will update you when i tried this @torn condor
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @torn condor (current: #271 - 6)
I am now encountering this problem. I want to brush on the masked layer of the island but the Brush does not paint on it. I have allready used a brush before on the island to get the outer border smoothed out. But why doesnt it let me use the brush on the masked layer of the island main (green) land?
You are trying to brush with white color.
I am trying to change the color but the only thing it does (visibly) is subtract the green color and exposing the layer underneath (brown color). I cant seem to add a green or any other color to make the forest on the mask.
First of all, happy holidays to everyone. Question. Do anyone else have a problem with photoshop, when you have worked on a psd file, you save it and close down photoshop. Then if you want to move that file to another folder, you can't because it's like photoshop is still reading from it. I have had the problem for a while now, and I can only move my files if I open up a different psd file.
@torn condor GOT IT! I needed to duplicate the layer and create a clipping mask with it. Now it works for me. Thanks for your time and help! Happy Holidays!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @torn condor (current: #230 - 7)
aloha my dear friends!! how do i quickly select black stripe here in PS? as black at top & bottom section color doesn't seem to match, i wanna make them same black color
@torn condor How did you get your brush like that with the trees? Did you combine 2 brushes together?
Legend!
Which error message do you get? What OS are you using?
You could also add a drop shadow to the layer you are painting on.
Hi, I would use a rectangular marquee (M) selection of stripes located below the zebra, until the bad stripes, then jump it (Ctrl+J) to its own layer, then move (V) it down. Duplicate the layer (alt-drag the layer name in the layer panel) and move again if needed.
Of course when I had to take a screenshot of it, it works. It's a notification that pops up like if I try to move a file to another folder, while it's still being used. But in my case photoshop is closed down and no extra instances are running. I'm running windows 11.
please I need help, I have enterprise subscription and I dont know how to manage it
is this relevant?
AND I TRY TO CONTACT SUPPORT AND IT DOESNT WORK XD
how would you make the sky or the background more blue and brighter?
I used an app to convert it from here , but it's the stupid watermark , is there anyway I can give the cartoonish look from photoshop to my image
Hi, you should use the admin console if I’m not mistaken: https://helpx.adobe.com/enterprise/using/admin-console.html
You could flip the bottom part to remove the watermark
the "Discard Layers and Save a Copy" is grayed out. what should i do
Hi. all
I am curious about a hope-fully minor thing
Is a 4 Artboard, multi-layered PS project currently a little over 500 MB bad practice?
Like in terms of performance and stuff
I'm in the middle of drawing my comic
It saves pretty slow
Hm, I actually didn't consider the possibility of corruption either
Please advise. Thank you ❤️
Okay it's over 1 GB now lol
Maybe I should do 2 pages each PSD...
Some forums say you should save as a PSB file
Yes
So they also state that crossing a 2GB limit will automatically cause the save to PSB
Does that lead to corruption? If I saved my 3 page comic right now as PSB, will everything be fine and dandy?
Will my layers be intact and I can resume work?
I just started using photoshop yesterday
Now that is a certified bruh moment!
Kind of wanna ping an expert, but I don't wanna be too much of a bother tonight
Hi, are the artboards necessary? I’d rather draw each page separately, use incremental saves, such as with https://www.artstation.com/marketplace/p/XOdlp/save-as-today-s-date-auto-version-up-photoshop-script
PSB is made for larger documents supports all the features of PSD. But using smaller docs might be faster in the end.
Well, I decided on Artboards because it felt like how one would be making comics
I had a friend work with separate pages, it was easy to handle in indesign for the imposition and export to pdf.
I’ve read some remarks that artboards are not always very efficient, that they might be huge documents behind the scenes, but I have not investigated or found anything firsthand.
Well, I can tell you my PSD is over 1 GB
I see
So PSB's might be better for storage and hopefully without corruption, but might be slower
That's an interesting tool, hm
Wow, it's too bad I don't have the space, time, or desire to get an Epic Games thingimajig
That's too bad, I guess
Since when did Artstation require that, anyway?!
No, they are just made for larger pixel sizes and file sizes. Nothing about less corruption. I’ve read that some use uncompressed PSB and rar them.
Okay, I don't understand that last part, but I guess it could be worth trying once I pass the 2 GB limit
I would not like it if my brush was moving at a snail's pace
lol
Mmmh, did not know that, see this thread for more solutions: https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-ideas/photoshop-quot-increment-and-save-quot-command/idi-p/12249074
Heyyy I see you there in the forum
And the links go back to the same Artstation page
Or a 503 error page
Gee, now I'm getting ever so slightly scared
This comic is in progress and it took time as it is
The format of the saving of the document has no bearing on the efficiency of the brush. But working on a small document vs a 50.000 pixels one would. For performance, see: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/optimize-photoshop-cc-performance.html
To RAR means to compress the files in a rar archive: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAR_(file_format)
RAR is a proprietary archive file format that supports data compression, error correction and file spanning. It was developed in 1993 by Russian software engineer Eugene Roshal and the software is licensed by win.rar GmbH. The name RAR stands for Roshal Archive.
Oh
I misunderstood you back there
I thought there was some special form PSB's take
But all you said was that you zip them, and I suppose that works?
If so, great! PNG's normally do not compress to any significantly small size, but that shouldn't stand for PSD's or PSB's
I'll take a look at the page for performance
But now I gotta continue working
Thank you for everything, @hushed niche

change I change color or type of pixel grid? I can bare see it when the image colors are too bright?
How do I resize the selection square?
hey, Im on windows. Alt + click zooms my screen in.
How do I zoom the view to CENTER on the mouse position?
You can use the 'transform selection' command
Alt+scroll wheel
no that scrolls the view, it doesn't zoom
thank you, this works. (is there a shortcut to do it so I don't have to go tedious clickety-click through the menus every time?
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @serene coral (current: #6 - 920)
Hold left alt and scroll while holding alt
You can set one yourself 😉
no that scrolls the view, it doesn't zoom
great, awesome!
Have you changed any scroll related settings in preferences?
ctrl+scroll wheel zooms and SORT OF zooms a bit to the center, but not actually.
not that I know off. or remember. but I guess I should look in settings though.
How about ctrl+space+click and drag?
yes
that doe sit
I recall having been told it before now, I just forgot it. Thank you.
How do I clip this halftone pattern to get the exact effect as this?
Use clipping masks, might also need a regular layer mask but it depends on your layer setup
?
Im new to this so I am not able to comprehend what youre saying here.
Yes, that's what I meant, if you're not sure about something try looking it up in #1042476087642423369 channel
I try creating the clipping mask but the halftone patterns disappears.
That's probably because your shape has a gradient overlay layer style enabled which is applied 'after' clipped layers are. Using shape's fill instead should fix it
How can I transform the selected content only in one dimension? Whatever I do I can't seem to avoid growing/shrinking both horizontally and vertically
Turned off gradient overlay and it worked. THanks
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @serene coral (current: #6 - 921)
How about holding shift and then trying to resize?
HUH
weird I thought I just tried that
but yes this works lol

this may be a dumb question but im struggling to get my text under a layer
in the layer panel it is cleary placed under but it still protrudes over
Have you tried closing and opening the document again? Can you screenshot the whole screen?
yeah it didnt work
it wont go under
never had this problem before
Worked great thanks!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @pine grail (current: #957 - 1)
There's no way to have a quick New Layer keyboard shortcut without it opening the dialog box, is there? Replicating the behavior of pressing the icon in the panel?
What are you trying to mask?
the whole image into like a square but u see how its like curved
the corners
would i just get like a image and then fill it in
like u see how his image is like
idk how to explain but try to help me out pls
You can group all layers together, then create a mask which is a square filling the canvas and round the corners a bit. Export as .png and that should be it.
Just make sure the background in the Photoshop canvas is a checkerboard, which means there will be transparency when exporting
How to make an image more "sharp", this seems a little multi. The white has several shades of white in it and the edges aren't crisp
An Easy Trick to Turn Low-Resolution Graphics into High-Resolution in Photoshop! Learn how to use the concept of Blur and Contrast to get smooth edges out of jagged and pixelated graphics.
If you want everything to be the same white then select all the "white parts" then fill it with white
Thats amazing. Thank you, when I zoom in, the text has an old blue color around it... how can I also remove this?
What resolution are you exporting it at? If you're using it as a logo then it should be in vector format
You need to click on the line between the titles of the layers. Alt+click on the thumbnail makes it full screen.
Is the text a path? Can you screenshot it?
Hi, uncheck the link between W and H in the option bar.
Is there a way to make the zoom increments into 10% per step and keep it integer?
So whatever zoom level is when I zoom in/out it goes to next 10%? For example im at 103.34% zoom, then if I zoom in one step it goes to 110% and next zoom step then to 120% etc. Is it possible to setup like that?
Ok so Shift-zoom makes increments in 100% per step and rounds it to 100% integer (100,200,300 etc), which is pretty good, especially for my pixelart purposes where scaling has to double. But still, is there one for 10% per step?
I imagine you could maybe create a script for it, but I don't believe there's any other way https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/how-can-i-change-zoom-increments/m-p/13776644

Ok this is really annoying (sorry for complaining!
), the selection tool skips a pixel grid tile so Im not able to select the exact area I want. I have to zoom in closer to be able to make the selection line up??
Do you have snapping activated by any chance?
You can disable it if it prevents you from aligning to the pixel grid...
view>snap... untick it and see if it makes a difference.
if you know the exact size of the selection as it should be, then you can create a pixel perfect selection... (in pixels)
yes I do
But shouldn't it align to the guides, then?
What is it snapping to in my previous screenshot?
Possibly the grid
The underlying pixels grid which maynot align with your graphics
the pixelgrid is 1x1?
you can find out here
in that case, if you set the snapping to none, it should give you the answer
Bear in mind that the visualisation is only accurate when you're at 100%
I set snapping to none, but I dont see or understand an answer
So you may be aligned but don't see it (particularly when you zoom out and it ends up being an odd magnification number like 6.35% or something)
Accurate display is always at 100%
I also don't know Photoshop's devs have set this up. Probably out of Discord's paygrade
but... I don't understand why there is snapping to the pixelgrid?
It's not set up to snap to the pixelgrid
It's setup to snap to guides
but it's not snapping to the guide, it's snapping to the pixelgrid
If you hold CTRL while you move you can disable the snapping temporarily
I don't really know
alright, thanks for your help in any case though! I'll just assume the program has a bug with this, since it makes no sense.

Maybe it's related
hello i am new to the server. I have been using Photoshop about 3 years now
I need some help with a project I am working on. I mainly use Photoshop to design and derive clothing textures for the IMVU universe
I have a texture I am working on. I need to split the texture up and color each part a separate color.
Hey!
I am not acquainted with the specifics for IMVU, but if you want to share a screenshot of your project (with layers visiable etc) I'll see if I can help with specific actions
For example: When you say "texture" is it a material file format (3D) or is it just a flat pattern?
i want the top strap to be black. the next one hot pink and the skirt to half black and half pink
Is this a layerd project in Photoshop?
If not you may need to separate each area to be recoloured, or at least select each area to create a mask and apply an adjustement layer for each colour,, that will act as a colour overlay for the area in question
This would be akin to recolouring an UV in the 3D world, which can be done by masking
Can I do a selection of each item and do a layer cut to put them on 3 separate layers/
So one of the way would be to select the area you want to colour (in the case of straps, you can easily use the magic wand, with the "continuous" ticked so you only choose one, set the parameters so it chooes everything but pure black and use that selection to colour the area
You could, but people generally prefer to use a non destructive method (masking) instead of cutting
That said, it's perfectly valid
as you can see my use of Photoshop is very basic to this point.
If you want to cut, select the area and then go to Layer>new layer via cut. That way no need to cut and paste
ok
Generally, you would create either a solid colour adjustment layer, and set the blending mode to overlay
see that my mask makes that the colour (blending mode: Overlay) only affects where the mask is white
you can create as many new colour/masks as you need
The only thing that is difficult here is potentially making accurate selections. Only tricky for the half black/half pink skirt. I would suggest you use the pen ool in path mode to create a path, then turn that path into a selection
How to edit camera raw filter only of sky in my photo, not the whole photo?
Or you can simply paint on the mask with the brush tool, better with a graphic tablet than with a mouse but not impossible. Or create a freehand selection with the lasso tool. The indid=vidual elemets will be taken care of with the magic want without any trouble
You got a "sky" masking mode in ACR, you just need to enter the masking interface and select sky in here
I'll have to delete that, please post in #💬chat-general
Unless you want someone to explain how to do it of course
Idk if you know photopea
or someone
This is the Photoshop server here, we tend not to discuss about other software
Where is that thing?
it's pretty much 1:1 to photoshop
Yes but no
couldn't find something there
You won't find anything here neither. This is the Photoshop server
yeah that's why i asked if someone could quickly apply the map for me, takes like 30 secs
In the cmera Raw interface
Thank you
you need to either enter the camera raw filter, or use Camera Raw standalone within Bridge
Well, good luck!
I used the filter within PS for my screenshot, but the exact same features exist in the standalone within Bridge
Hello, Why with PS can't open JP2 file.
It tells me, that it couldn't pare the file.
why is it when drawing and i get an error it makes a line like this wich i cant press ctrl+z to get rid odd
im scared to do a big art project cus i feel like that that thing will ruin it
(please ping me if u got an answer)
Heya, I made this interesting photo, and I want to try making a blood-dripping effect that goes upwards. Is there a way I can make one from scratch? I'm having difficulty finding good images to use.
Image for reference
why is this happening. on the left is an .svg file but when i open it on photoshop it looks pixelated
Dose anyone know any good ways to practice interviewing
Try ChatGPT. Tell it that you want to do a practice interview for: [job title]
SVG can have bitmaps embedded in it. Either external linked files or Base-64 encoded strings. Also, effects can get rasterized when you export them. So SVG doesn't necessarily mean that everything in the file will be vector graphics.
Probably just PS rendering not using a proper method. Or it's set to a blocky interpolation
oh guys i didnt notcie theres ask a question could someone experienced in adobe photoshop help me?
This is what happens if I drag drop an svg file into ps
I am really stuck and my project has ground to a halt because I can't figure out how to do this? I am really hoping someone can help me. I need to break this texture in 3 layers. A layer for the first strap, a layer for the second and a 3rd layer for the skirt part of the texture. Each layer will be a separate color.
Make a selection and cut and paste them to their own layers
how about invert selection on the black
You can use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to draw a box around each of the objects. Then you can cut... Edit > Cut... Then Edit > Paste Special > Paste in Place...
Do that for each one and they will be on their own layers.
ok let me try that tyvm
Then you can do other things after they've been separated.
Interesting
Even after deleting multiple layers, the file size of my PSD is still over 1 GB
It didn't change
What could this mean?
I'm trying to change the white of this fire extinguisher models texture to red via Freeselect or colour select but it never works - I want to see if anyone can offer advice on what I should do. It should be fairly simple?
Drawing it yourself might work, and I don't think you need to be a great painter
Yeah anything works, idk what kind of brushes I would need howeger
As for me, I would love some help here before I make another stroke
is there no helpers or something?
They're all probably busy with some projects and/or schedules
Welpers
Use a Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer with a Layer Mask.
You can paint on the mask to fine-tune the colorize effect.
I am not gonna lie, after messing around with the sliders I don't really know what I am suppose to be doing
I can't help you with Photopea. Sorry. Check their documentation.
Everything you said applies and still works I just don't know how to work it
I'm not here to troubleshoot issues or figure out how to do things in apps from other manufacturers. I know Photoshop. Sorry.
You should check their documentation online.
So you're refusing to help me because I am using a different photoshop.. with everything working the exact same as Adobe lol.
First, this isn't the Photopea server. Second, I don't know Photopea. Third, you should go read the Photopea documentation.
Also, I already did help you. I told you to add an Adjustment Layer for Hue/Saturation and Colorize it. Then paint on the Layer Mask where you want the Colorize effect to occur. If that app is "the exact same thing as Photoshop" then it should be simple to do.
You wouldn't mind advising me on how to reduce file sizes by any chance, would you?
Reduce dimensions, resolution, the number Smart Objects and Layers. Those things would likely have an effect on file size.
Hm, well... I tried that last one, didn't work
I don't think I could reduce the first two because that might impact my comic's quality
And for the third one, I got none
Maybe the fx, blending settings, or something else?
Or even the masks? Though I did remove one or two and that didn't help... but I'm just suggesting
Probably not. Resolution, Dimensions, Smart Object, Layers. Certain Effects, if they're attached to Smart Objects will impact file size. But if you want them to remain editable, I wouldn't do that. You'll just have to deal with the file size.
Hmm... is it possible to go from 16 bits to 8 bits then back in a PSD document?
I am of course talking about the color thingy
Sorry, I'm bad with names!
I'm not sure why you would choose 16bit and then 8bit and switch back and forth.
Well, I thought that going to 8 bit would reduce file size, then when I was done, I could go to 16 and everything's fine in the end
Also, you have to understand that more items you add to the file, the larger that file potentially will be. That should be obvious.
Yeah, it is
Hello, is there any way to contact a real support agent for adobe without having an active plan?
But even after trying to cut down on the layers, the file size remained unfazed
OK. Well.. No. I don't have any other suggestions for you.
Aw, man...
No. I think you'll need an Adobe Account to contact Adobe Customer Care.
I pray the file doesn't corrupt
I think all you'd need is an Adobe Account. Not an "active plan" because there are free apps from Adobe.
Create an account. Sign in and contact Customer Care.
Well i tried, without an active plan they only let me talk with the AI bot, which is not helpful at all, i need to recover another lost account, how if i can't contact them..
I doubt that's always the case. There may just be the time of day where you are or perhaps its the holidays and they have slim staffing for support.
Been trying for the last month'
It is actually the case, no money no help is what they are trying to say
Then don't do live chat. Call them.
Tried as well, it tells me the number does not exist
2 numbers actually
800-915-9428.
I did this with the Virtual Assistant and they ask me to add a phone number and they will call me.
I'm not going to go any further with this because I'm not going to waste their time calling me.
What is lost is lost. 16>8 brings some quantization (noise) in gradients. It helps to remove banding.
Hmm, I like how un-noisy my work is
Welp, I will just cross my fingers and hope nothing gets corrupted
The best way is to avoid artboards, but you seem to want absolutely to use them.
It'd be a shaaaaaame, since I personally think my art is decent and worth sharing
Wha- I never said "absolutely"
I was just testing the waters
Now I know that the files get bloated
So next time I might work on 2 Artboards rather than 4
Or none at all!
It's because nobody good in comics ever found me and provided technical advice that I went this route
I also didn't find them; I also looked for them
Where do you see the file size? If you are looking at the status bar at the bottom left, it is the size in memory, not once saved.
Oh, I was looking through my file explorer
Bottom left says...
??
@hushed niche what does it mean?
The number on the left displays the uncompressed size of the image if it were to have all layers flattened. The number on the right displays the uncompressed size of the document including all layers and channels.
So it's OVER 2 GB?
But the file explorer!
Wait
Uncompressed
Ah, so the PSD that the file explorer sees is the "compressed" one? @hushed niche
Does any of this mean that I need to convert to PSB?
Yes, the psd has some lossless compression going on, I think that you can turn it off in PSB to speed up saves, then you can compress them afterwards if needed with RAR.
Interesting
I got a feeling the PSB without compression might remedy risks of corruption
If your current saved files are larger than 1GB and you keep adding stuff, it might we wise to select PSB. note that you can export your artboards to files, IIRC.
Which corruption risks? Are you saving on a flaky external drive? I would very strongly advise to save locally and on an external disk/online if those files are important!
No, I'm just saving locally
I'm just afraid, maybe paranoid for no reason
Is there a channel on this server, or a server where I could get some assistance with a logo for my business? As in, I have a logo I've made, and need some input on it. I was told by a couple of people that I should somehow incorporate my company name into the logo in some way, and I really don't know how to do that.
You can ask here…
So this is my logo, at least for now anyway, I do rather like it though lol.
I own "Starlight R.V. Specialists" doing mobile RV repair, I do hope to expand this into a shop one day, so not strictly being mobile in the future.
I have no idea what would make this logo better, or how I could incoroporate the name into it. I'm very creatively inept lol
If you're asking for feedback/suggestions, it's more appropriate to post in #📝project-feedback
Like, I'm the furthest thing from marketing or design
ahh, excellent, I will, thanks.
I've just asked them to post in the feedback channel so if you'd like to provide suggestions on it then please do it in that channel.
My bad
ty
another newbie question from me
whats the best way to export for best quality on a phone screen
for example if you were to post the image and wanted to keep the same quality as in ps
Define "same quality" because depending on the current doc size and resolution, that might not be possible. For instance, if you've designed a high-rez doc for printing and you export an image for viewing on the screen, you wouldn't need as large of an image.
Wish I could send 1 GB files here, I was just having ideas...
Why do you need to send 1GB files here?
Just thought that providing my PSD would probably yield insight into a non-destructive way to shrink its size
There could be something I didn't consider
I dunno
There is no "free lunch." You can't continually add things to a file and expect it to be "small"
🤷 oh, well
Would've been nice if there wasn't a 20 MB limit
Its not a server thing. Purchase Nitro from Discord.
Also, there would have to be people who'd trust that you aren't attempting to do something malicious in order for people to load up enormous files from a stranger.
Mmmm...
Okay, I think we've gone off a tangent
I'm fine
The art is looking great
Hopefully stays that way
You just take care, and thank you
"You just take care..."
Is there a problem?
I don't know. Is there?
I hate ending things so bitterly and abruptly - as I feel your response and my own past experiences elsewhere lean toward sour
@ripe quest, I am sorry if I caused you any manner of bother or annoyance. I could have phrased my words better
You probably had a hard day, so I wish you a more pleasant one tomorrow and after
I appreciate the time you gave me. Thank you
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @ripe quest (current: #3 - 2557)
Good luck with your issues. I hope you figure them out.
Will be back for more, hopefully with better phrasing on my part 👍
Before the update I could scale images smaller without pixelation, unfortunately that's no longer possible. Can someone tell me how to set it up now?
Can you elaborate on your scaling method as well as how it is now broken?
is there a filter or a method to make the curves thicker? the curves and the white background are one layer
I was able to insert an image before. Then, regardless of the image size, I could drag it to the corners and scale it down. Back then, there was a field you could select that kept the quality of the image. I could zoom in and it was slightly or not at all pixelated. Now I don't have the option and when I zoom in, it's pixelated.
nevermind, I was able to achieve that using the minimize filter in others
What would be the best way of removing the lighting influence on this door image? Flat lighting is ideal
@river otter - We can't answer questions like that here. Sorry.
Please don't post things like that in the server.
You can try the Remove Tool. I'd work on that in "sections."
its nothing other than educational
and those images were off google
Sorry. Can't do it. Too many issues with forgery, etc.
i see mb
If the remove tool isn't working, then you could mask it quite easily, then bring it up with the curve tool to the correct level, and then use the remove tool to clean up the edges where the mask isn't quite right.
Rather than trying to get the remove tool to patch in everything.
It looks very geometrical so a pen or straight lasso mask should work
Just wanted to make sure you know that if you first convert the layer into a Smart Object then your Minimum filter will be applied as a live effect that you can alter at a later time.
Yeah. Good idea. Show a demo of that.
Since it's not uniform, it will probably require a variety of techniques to even it out. This is just quick. The door is going to be problematic because there is a gradation on that. Might be easier to just replace it.
I see, fixing this might be above my skill level then so I might just have to find a different door image
I'm mainly interested in images for use in a 3d modeling/texturing workflow called projection, which is why I need to find relatively front facing images with ideally low lighting influence
Do you know of any resources/sites that might be really good for finding images like these? Doesn't have to be free
You can try generating a new wall with a door like that.
this is what I mean by projection btw
Found a sideview of a makarov, and turned it into a 3d model
I understand what it means.
Explain "generating"?
Use Generative AI tech to "create" pixels based on your detailed description.
Oh I see, I'm surprised I didn't think of that. It could work quite well for stuff like this
Thanks, I'll give it a try
You could probably use that image of the wall as a reference image to create something similar.
Yeah true
So, after feeling some pressure, I decide to go into the PSB format
Surely it can handle more than the layers shown here, right?
That's what I was working with on the PSD!
is it possible for stroke to surround the drop shadow aswell here?
If you intend on the drop shadow being permanent - you won't edit it further - rasterize the layer and apply the stroke
Hi, I am looking for some help with trying to make modifications to a texture dds file, used as a mask, for a human game model. I believe this is the file that needs to be modified to give the model a wet look. When I say wet look I don’t mean that the model has water droplets on the skin. I think a better way to describe it would be to use the word “oil” rather than “wet”. I am trying to recreate the look the model has when it enters the water in the game and make that look permanent rather than just when the model enters the water.
I am not a mod creator but more of a mod editor. I have performed modifications to mods on games like Resident Evil 2 & 3, and the Witcher 3. However, I haven’t ever attempted to make a modification like this and I cannot find any tutorials online that really discuss what I am trying to do, which is the reason I am stuck. Also, I don’t know if the normal texture dds file would need to be edited as well. Adobe Photoshop CS6 v13 using Intel Texture Works plug-in v1.04 for editing the dds file. Any help would be appreciated.
I am trying to use the Ellliptical Maquee tool. How can I lengthen the Oval without widening it.
Genuinely cannot tell if this is a request or sarcasm :/
I should learn to just keep my mouth shut in here
Can somebody tell me how to edit camera raw settings on my picture but I want sky to stay the same?
I told you yesterday how to create a sky selection in ACR, now click on the 3 little dots next to the mask you've just created and select "invert"
Now you have a mask showing everything but the sky
Whatever you change will not touch the sky. (while you stay within the masked workflow)
Heres another Photoshop Landscape Photo Editing Tutorial showing the process from start to finish. I want to specifically emphasize the masking aspect for this picture.
You can follow along this tutorial by downloading the raw photo here:

Than...
a guy I made this for wants a version for him to use for the new years on his discord server does anyone know a trick to put this kind of look
You mean a new year's look?
yeah
Is it on its own layer without the white BG?
yeah all colours can be changed and the bg would be removed cause for some reason I sent the non transparent one
gimme a sec
On the top of my end, I will turn it into a golden "charm"
(layer styles bevel emboss, gold colour overlay etc)
u got any refrence images?
Then I would put a few glistering thingy here and there (even could be animated and turned into a GIF
wdym by gold charm?
Like that, but gold

yeah I see
thanks alot

New year's means different things for different cultures so feel free to adapt.
But in our shores, New years means wishes of prosperity, health, festive feeling, sparkling things, fireworks etc
So gold is always the obvious option
yeah i'll do that have a nice day
Why do some of my pictures disappear minutes after generation?
Exactly, maybe not but on can see that there is an inner shadow involved, in an orange tone, and that there is an orange to yellow radial gradient applied on the text.
There might be a negative bevel as well
i saw
How can I make an isometric grid`?
What did come up with so far?
what do u mean
i mean
i saw text is gradient
inner glow is like yellow
and also has outer glow
but i cant make exactly style in photoshop
A request. If you're going to suggest a solution then perhaps you could demo it. Then we can all learn from the workflow you're suggesting.
There are many tutorials for this for illustrator, but here is the first result I got in an online search for “isometric grid Photoshop “ https://medialoot.com/blog/how-to-make-an-isometric-grid-in-photoshop/
chatgpt
ugh really? PS have no native feature to make an isomtric grid?
Show us the results you got so far, we can maybe give you hints on how to fix it…
sorry, thanks for helping.
because i tried long time to do this style, and it didnt work i stopped and didnt saved project
(sry idk english well)
just untitled.psd u know
No, but it is easy to create an action for it, or to download one: https://www.behance.net/gallery/19596567/Isometric-Grids-for-Photoshop-Action-and-Pattern-Set if you require it, you should post a feature request here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem/ct-p/ct-photoshop?page=1&sort=latest_replies&filter=all&lang=all&tabid=ideas
I am experiencing crippling amounts of slow-down on my brush strokes in Artboard 2 in a layer mask in my PSB file
Taking the layers out of the mask yields no lagging strokes
What gives?
I just reset my PC and will try brushing again
Did you play with the different profiles for the bevel? Or you could try contacting the creator of that design… I would try inverting the default light origin for the bevel.
i tried contact but
he dont replies me
Still lagging on my end
How much memory do you have if you are working with large artboards? Also are those regular layers? What do you mean with layerS in a mask, is the mask applied on a group? You could replace the mask with a layer if it is used to apply a black to transparent soft edge, if I remember your previous posts
You mean how much memory left?
Wait
Aaaand it froze
But did not crash
Great
So, as I was
Installed on your machine. The RAM is used as a cache for the scratch file, which is the main memory. The workflow path you chosed is not the most resources efficient and requires a beefy machine to work gracefully.
Gosh damn it
Well, this is why I test the waters, right? Haha
So, uh... what's the remedy?
So weird that in Artboard 1, everything worked just fine, but here no
If you are working with artboards to store different pages, you are putting several eggs in the same basket, and you need to carry the whole basket all the time. How would you print the results, on a press? You mentioned 16 bits yesterday, it’s mostly useful for photography when working with raw files or HDR, and printing on an inkjet printer.
Would switching to 8 bit solve this?
Will my work look significantly worse or not at all?
how do I delete a guide line?
Delete key maybe
16 bits is way more data to hold on, but we don’t know the output.
An alternative to masks could clipping masks: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/using/clipping-masks.html
Clipping groups, huh? Let me look into it
Click and drag it out to the rulers, but there should be a contextual if you right click on it. Ctrl+H hides all extras.
Hmmm
ty
So how do I convert my current layer set to one with clipping masks?
Clipping masks, I still use the old terminology
Layer masks and clipping masks sound so alike, it confuses me
lol
Check and study the view>Show menu, there are shortcuts
You can use a vector for a clipping mask.
I was using this all the time
Both bitmap and vector mask are applied from this icon IIRC you can right click it to select the one you want
Hm, well the popup was saying vector so
idk how different either would look for my project
Like thiiiiiis?
It is saying vector if you applied a bitmap one on the same layer. Here’s wondering if you should not rent a Photoshop guide from a local library and check things out before going on the wrong path…
Doesn't look too different
Eh...
Great!
Let's see the performance
Amazing! Smooth like silk!
At the moment - which could be short-lived but I hope not - I see no more issue
Thanks, @hushed niche

how to use eyedropper tool to set color of the delete color (pressing delete with a selection)
You mean delete a specific color?
how to use eyedropper tool to se background color
What?
You mean set?
Uhh, set an adjustment layer, and give it the solid color you want
hmm actaully it seems it is not the background color.
When I have a selection and I press Delete
it makes the selection a solid color. But I don't know where PS gets this color from
How do I change the color?
Hmmmm...
Alt-cick with the eyedropper to select the background color (works only on the background layer)
I could do it in a two-step. selection+Delete, then fill tool to make it the Foreground color, which can be set with the eyedropper tool
that was 4 steps though
I didn't fully get what he wants
then it won't do. I need to set the color that PS applies to a selection when pressing Delete
I believe there is a menu if you shift+ delete
I need to set the color that PS applies to a selection when pressing Delete
nothing different happens with shift+delete
When you press the Delete key on a selection, you remove whatever is in the selection
what do you mean with "❓ask-a-question"?
can I not set the whole selection to become a solid color of my choice?
You should get a menu
how do I get a menu? What do you mean?
You sure can!
I think!
Just set a background layer with a color and delete the top layer as you wish
Edit> fill should give you the menu: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/filling-stroking-selections-layers-paths.html
Or if I understand what you are after, try this: https://kritskiy.gumroad.com/l/lassodraw
Lasso Draw is an extension panel for Photoshop for drawing with selection tools and using selection tools in different creative ways. At its core, the tool allows you to draw with the Lasso Tool and automatically fill in the selection with the foreground color or cut with the selection, additionally with different modes that can completely trans...
but I would have to do that for every specific color I want?
I probably misunderstood everything, so I should quit from now
That would result in a lot of unecessary background layers wouldn't it?
I'd like to make the entire selection a specific solid color
There can be only one, if you remember Highlander.
Edit> fill
Here is the tedious solution (there has to be a better way?):
To Fill with the Foreground color press Alt Backspace (Mac: Option Delete). To Fill with the Background color press Ctrl Backspace (Mac: Command Delete) sorry, am away from Pc, still wanted to help.
yes! ALT-Backspace works
Thank you.
Now to change the shortcut to a less awkward combo that doesn't require lifting my right hand from my mouse to press Backspace while the left hand presses ALT.
And by setting bg and fg colors you have two choices.
yep, that's great 😊 👍
Not sure if it is listed in the shortcut editor, check in the edit menu section.
how do I move a selection area while temporarily disabling snapping?
Ctrl key
With CTRL you can disable snapping when moving, but when trying to move a selection area only (not the content, only the selection outline) then the CTRL key changes the functionality to move the content
You can also move it while drawing with the space key
note I only want to move the selection outline, not the content of the image in the selection
Even if you hold Ctrl after starting the move?
Photoshop is complex, isn’t it?
it is
but Ima making some progresss
thanks for the help
How can I move the layers in two groups I have selected? As soon as I click-drag on the image to drag it selects only ONE of the layers to move
select 2 groups, press V and move your objects
Do you have auto select on?
how do I check it?
didn't work, holding or pressing V didn't make a difference
after you select layers / groups, you should press V once (it's a move tool) and you should be able to move layers / groups
can you move single layer / group with V (move tool) ?
hmm, I found a bit funky way to do it:
Hold CTRL and click on the groups to select them. Then hold shift and move layers in the image. But here, after the move have begun then Shift must be un-held or else the movement is constricted to horizontal plane
I whish I could just select the groups with CTRL and then simply move with a mouse-click drag
moving object with SHIFT helps you to move them straight in X / Y axis
ah I see, yeah I already had the Move tool chosen (so that's why V didn't make a difference, as it was already chosen).
yeah and that is not what I need. But a side effect is that when shift is held as the move begins ALL the layers in the selected groups will be moved. Which is what I want. But since the dimension restriction is unwanted I have to then un-hold shift and then the move can continue unrestricted to any dimension while it still moves all of the layers in the group.
But again.... there has to be an easier way?
yes.
well basically you can select 1-1000 layers / groups and move them with move tool (v)
you probably have something turned on which prevents from that action
I can also move ALL layers with the move tool but it requires me to MANUALLY select ALL layers (click on them all while holding CTRL)
check if "Auto-Select" in turned ON
ah so you can
But suppose I have 8 layers in one group, 4 layers in another, and 3 layers in an third group. Is it not so good to have to hold CTRL and then click 15 times to select all the laters (8+4+3=15)
Yes, because there are modifiers behavior that differ according to when you use them.
Move tool option bar
yeah this is how it works in general 😄
Not if I hold shift
You can target them in the layer panel
holding shift when the move begins all of the layers in the groups are automatically selected for the move
but then I have to click 15 times
I don't want to click 15 times every time I need to move them
so how would you like to move them then?
Or 40 times if that's how many layers there are. 15 is just an example
by selecting the groups then click-drag mouse to move
So for 3 groups with a total of 40 layers (for example) I'd just have to CTRL click 3 times then click-drag to move.
let's say you have 10 gropus, inside of each group there are 20 layers, you can select multiple groups with CTRL and move all of them with V
Imagine selecting and moving some folders in Windows.
you're able to move multiple groups with layers at once
You have 3 folders with a total of 40 files in them. You ctrl-click to select the 3 folders. Then you mouse click-drag to mvoe them
how? 🙂
But then I'd have to constantly uncheck/check that every time?
just turn it off and you will be able to do as we said
eveytime I want to move groups of layers I'd have to uncheck auto-select and then afterwards enable it again
yes I can see that I can, but now the auto-select feature is off
well if it works, it works. I'll try it out 🙂
thank you
you're welcome
yeah unfortunately now I can't auto select layers by just clicking in the document in itself
because that is the functionality that auto-select provides
yeah you will need to select each of them in layers panel
not if I hold shift
so that is still the easiest way to do it. Selecting the groups, then hold shift, then click-drag mouse and move it a bit, then lift finger from shift.
Still a clunky way way to do it, but certainly beats clicking 40 times on 40 layers
(or however many layers is in the groups in question)
or
with auto-select on, you can select multiple groups and move them with arrows while holding a shift
I need precise and fast movement, the arrow keys have either large step movement or very slow small step movement.
Only way is mouse as you have full dynamic control of mouse velocity with hand and finger while retaining precision
or you can turn off auto-select, and when you have mouse on single element, you can click on it with CTRL
and it will select specific layer
so it works the same as auto-select but it's turned off
Having to hold CTRL to click on objects is an obstacle I really am not fond off. I move things around a lot in the document. Constantly having to hold CTRL is a bad solution for that.
I appreciate your help btw, thank you.
with auto-select you have to click on element
without auto-select you have to press CTRL + click on element
Guess it's the solution for now to: ctrl+click on layer groups and then shift + click-drag + unshift + finish dragging
yes I have to press CTRL everytime I want to move something. Which I do all of the time. It's just an unnecessary bother to have to constantly enable a feature that Im already constantly using.
It's like if you were painting an image in a single color (say black). But everytime you had to paint a new line the program would have changed the color to yellow so you had to reselect the black color.
Solution for now: ctrl+click on layer groups and then shift + click-drag + unshift + finish dragging
At least this works fairly well and I don't need to move groups often enough that I probably can't live with it.
all you have to do is press ctrl with mouse click, idk how can you compare it to changing colours and reselecting them
Because it's an extra step that needs doing everytime. it should be set enabled, not something that I should be temporarily enabling with extra steps. This is the comparison.
But ok, imagine having to press ctrl every time you paints with the mouse.
That's just as obnoxious to the creative process.
Like the red tape of painting lol
selecting different colour is an additinal operation that require some additional steps, we're talking about combination of 2 keys
But ok, imagine having to press ctrl every time you paints with the mouse.
That's comparable. As I said, the red tape of painting 😉
as long as I have both hands I don't see a problem there
😄
photoshop is really complex and needs to fit for many designers, not easy to please everyone :/
it is what it is, there some functions which doesn't fit my needs either
like saving files....
You can Click, shift click at the end of the to select a range of layers.
Yes, it can be achieved with Ctrl anyways.
Are there any good tutoiials on making plain texture look shiny or latex like. I don't want a tutoial on making text glossy or shiny. I am talking about like flat texture.
I don't really understand what this means. Is this a texture that you're applying to a 3D model? Or you're attempting to make something look like latex in a 2D photo edit?
If you're just painting this, then the surface you're working with shouldn't have any bumpiness at all. If there is, then you'd have to remove that first. Then you'd want to paint highlights on it to indicate shine.
its a 2d flat texture which will be imported into a 3d software
Then you'd probably do the shininess and reflective qualities in the 3D app. 3D material editors will have settings for how a material will receive light, shininess, etc
Hey, @hushed niche, I just got a quick question regarding masks
Can you make a clipping mask translucent?
My testing says yes, meaning there's no con in moving from layer masks to clipping masks
But I just thought I'd get input for a "just in case" scenario
Changing the Opacity Value of a Clipping Mask will also change the Opacity value of the Layer that is clipped to it.
I guess that's a yes, so I can use clipping masks as alternatives to the layer masks
By the way, apologies if I'm getting names mixed up
Why you would use one over the other really depends. Clipping Masks, you're generally attempting to make a layer conform to a certain shape. Layer Masks use greyscale values to hide portions of a layer. They're are really more for variable opacity, making fine selections, painting soft feathered edges, etc.
Hmm
I'm not sure personally, as I saw similar results
Trying to use both at the same time would be for a very specific use case, I suppose. Probably best to not over-complicate things.
They can produce similar results but they're not the same.
I was not using both
Yeah, well, as a comician (is that a word??) who does like to have their panels fading depending on style choices, that's good enough for me
Main difference is that the layer mask needs a black or grey brush, while the clipping mask needs a soft eraser
Comic's still a W.I.P. so I apologize if the fading isn't clear
The Clipping Mask is not going to give you a soft fade... UNLESS... you also add a Layer Mask to the Clipping Layer. Then the layer above that is clipped to it will conform to both things. As I said, it would be for a very specific effect.
What? Interesting...
I was thinking otherwise
This one is with Stroke on
Well, in any case, I hope I'm in the clear to continue, because I'm getting giddy about my work
Clipping Mask and Layer Mask.... Hopefully, this explains it well enough.
The Clipping Mask clips the moon layer to a Rectange. The Layer Mask is giving it that soft gradation from opaque to transparency.
I get what you mean
It's an example to demonstrate the difference.
My apologies
May I ask if you would remove the layer mask and erase a little from the clipping mask?
If no, that's fine
I wouldn't "erase" anything from that Layer because its a vector layer. Not a pixel layer. I would have to edit the vector shape.
Oh, my bad
Well, in my case I had pixel layers on and could erase
I think that's good enough
Specific brushes
Or
You could probably apply noise to the Layer Mask.
Any old brush with a noise filter
Yeah
Well, it's back to work for me!
Thanks, @ripe quest

kinda want something like auto? like just a filter like i dont have to do it manual like brush or something like that
mind teaching me the ways?
alright so i did the noise filter it worked? but its not the edges if that make sense
like its the inside
of the text
It really depends on how you're doing this effect...
Is this a Layer Mask and the text is cutting a hole in the layer and you're applying a Drop Shadow on that layer?
Well i put it everything in one text? like the effects?
So that is an Inner Shadow on the Text Layer?
Yes
its the edjes what im trying to like
see how the left one has like extra dots?
and the right one doesnt have like extra dots
One moment
@viral palm - Are you going to chime in on this issue? Because if you're writing something then I'm not going to spend the time explaining it.
Alt+click on the layer mask> apply a filter/Stylize/Diffuse to make you mask contour "gritty" > you can add a filter/other/minimum with a very low value to soften the effect
OK. Good. I'll go do something else. Cheers!
Oh so in my case do i just remove every effect that i add in the text?
and then smart object
sorry Daniel I don't follow the chat when I record... Didn't want to bother you... I've just find an other way to tackle the problem...
and do the steps?
is there any mask involved?
Yeah, well, the issue is that multiple people doing the same thing isn't an efficient use of time.
I'll leave you to it.
Could you share a screen shot with your layers panel?
and everything right?
This is what im looking for! Thank you but im just clarifying if the inner shadow
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @viral palm (current: #9 - 657)
wont affect this
So you want to make a gritty contour with an editable text layer?
Yes.
or i can do the instruction u showed me on this msg
and ill just add the effects after when done.
You can make the contour gritty with a drop shadow layer style > Turn your Text layer in a smart Object then apply your Layer Style to it...
Here a short video to show you what I mean.
Minimum filter is optional > just if the contour needs to be soften...If so use "preserve roundness" and a very low value (0.2 to 0.4).
OMG!, thank you so much!!

G
im making a poster that is going to be framed for my girlfriend and need an image to fit the height of the artboard and wanted to see if anyone has any ideas?
This is what i currently have if anyone could give some pointers?
Hello everyone, hope you're good. I need a trick to cut out the white around my shoes drawing but without cuting the white inside how I can do ?
If your testing says yes, I’d agree 😉 . You can use the opacity slider, indeed for a non destructive approach, as you can use the properties panel to affect a mask non destructively.
👍
Did you try the magic wand? You might need to paint in some gaps, if it selects the inside. But it might be faster to use a blending mode, then paint the shoes back in on a layer below.
What the size of your artboardis?
Hi, the generative features might help, but the balance of the image might be better with more sky instead.
20in x 30in/9000 px x 6000px
I honestly hadn't even thought about this, I'm going to try that and see how it goes
i will try that thanks you men !
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @hushed niche (current: #17 - 132)
Ok... Portrait or landscape.... 20x30in (portrait) 9000x6000 (landscape)
As said by @hushed niche generative tools could help but using composition rules must also be considered (golden ratio or rule of third for exemple)
you can access this guides with the crop tool activated
Is the text burnt into the image or you still can move it?
By using generative feature you will expand your canvas but if you can't move the text around the composition could look "unbalanced'...
If you could align Horizon line with an horizontal rulers then your character on the left vertical one and distribute your text on the two vertical guides you could get something more balanced...
Does anyone have a website where I can get assets easily for my posters like the flag or the lightnight
Lightning *
https://stock.adobe.com/free
search for Lightning bolt, Mexico flag...
Thank you very much 🙏🙏🙏

Hi @trim prawn
@viral palm has already shown you a great alternative. How about another variation in this style?
I like this alot, i think ill use this in some form for a smaller thing for her, i already found a method that ended up working but i really appreciate the help!
hello, i'm trying to download the latest version of photoshop on my PC but it says the spec isn't compatible, and i'm pretty sure it is, it's a brand new pc i had today and i don't get what is blocking me
i'll answer myself as i found out online, Adobe doesn't like Opera GX 👍
It is the other way around. Opera does not let Adobe see your operating system. That's why you are always redirected to the default download page for Mac.
good to know, but as the majority of systems are Windows, why not set exe as main ? or give us the choice to select ? but i guess it's not a question related to photoshop only but every adobe apps ?
I have never asked an Adobe employee about the background. But maybe it's because the first versions were available for Mac OS?
makes sense, but as a beginner i couldn't think of that and it would annoy me, but fair enough
does anyone know how to create lightnight like the one around the fighters
How can I pull up the layer panel? Somehow it got moved in the bottom, and usually I can place mouse cursor between the panel sections and find a thingy to pull at; but now it is not there?
Dbl-click on the "Layers" tab or press F7 on the keyboard
great thanks, it work 🙂

Check YouTube for "Photoshop Rim Light" or "Photoshop Edge Light" effect tutorials.
To me, much of it looks like the original image may have been smoke.
Find an image of white smoke against a black background. Add it as a layer above your other layers and set the blending mode to something like Screen.
To be honest, I'm not really too sure which part they're referring to. "Light around the fighters" seems like highlights around the edges of their heads. They'll need to clarify what it is they're trying to do.
NVM, I found the keybind to change it
My guides are set up for shortcut Ctrl+; but the semi-colon on my keyboard requires pressing Shift. So how is it activated? Because when pressing shift then im not just pressing Ctrl+; and so the shortcut doesn't work
Agreed. There is a lot going on in that image.
This is what I get. This time I was trying to rename a folder from where I have opened up a couple of dds files to edit. I closed down photoshop completely, and then I couldn't rename the folder. So I had to open a photoshop file in another location on my drive, and then I could rename the folder. I'm Danish by the way, and the box says:
The operation was not completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again. (Try again/Cancel)
When I copy a selection with ctrl-c and then paste with ctrl-v a new layer is created. How do I avoid a new layer and instead simply have the paste happen in the current layer?
That's how Photoshop works, it will create a layer, because that's how you are supposed to work in Photoshop (with layers, and as much as possble in a non destructive way)
If you really want evrything on the same layer (😱) than you can select both (or more) layers, right click and choose "merge layers"
But It's a bit like saying "I want to edit a video, but I don't want to be bothered by the timeline" or "I want to sculpt a 3D model, but the XYZ axis is useless to me"
I don't want everything in the same layer, I think you misunderstood what Im after. (look screenshot below, as you can see I use layers vigorously, Im a fan of it). That being said, I just want to know how I can perform a paste into the CURRENT layer.
No, every paste action will generate a new layer
(and every "place" action will as well)
really? there's no way to disable that temporarily by holding a key or using a slightly different shortcut for the paste?
I will see if that exists, but in my 25+ years of Photoshop usage, I have never heard of it, which of course, doesn't mean there isn't such a thing
Quick update, there are numerous Reddit posts and Stack Overflows and Adobe community forum posts about it and it's a straight no (of course it's possible I missed those answers at the bottom of the Google list)
The only time it works is when the target layer is empty (which I should have mentionned)
Everybody goes on to merge which you can do relatively fast with the KB shortcut (CTRL+E)
Yeah I can merge. It's another annoying step to perform, but yes this is how I do it now. The numerous reddit and Stack Overflow posts should maybe give a clue to PS devs that it'd be more than just a neat feature, it's wanted.
But anyways, thanks for the help! 🙏
thanks 🙂

Well, the posts are relatively old, and most of them pertain to some tutorials not explaining a particular step (within preparation of layers for animation for After Effects, so I even suspect it's the same botched tutorial) not sure that's widely wanted, but there is a feedback request in this very Photoshop server (as well as in the Community forum" and you're welcome to ask! #1219315426819969064
Thanks but.. meh, idk, I kinda have given up hopes on Adobe ever fixing or improving some of these core issues that I run into. But of course you never know. I guess if they one day actually do it's going to blow my mind
Is it possible to cover only the hair of a picture with another image?
For example if I took this guy and wanted to cover only his hair with a different image would it be possible?
I know the process is slow, and I have been asking for some things on my end for quite a while (A Bridge export in PNG that works, A Photoshop KB shortcuts management similar to Bridge/After Effects) and while I haven't been THAT successful with PS, I can say that on "younger" software (adobe Express, Fresco) the feedback is well listened and implemeented. But that's the trick, if you're all alone in asking, there's no chance.
It happens with Brisge because not many users even know it exists (BooHiss!) and therefore not likely to find any inconsistencies. On the other hand, the people in charge of promoting Brisge within the Photoshop ecosystem, aren't doing the job very robustly, so it's kinda of a vicious circle.
But know the some things have evolved thanks to the users (mostly those who actively Beta Test)
Yes, you need to create a selection of only the hair, and use this selection to create a mask that will be attached to the new layer, revealing this part.
If you're not familiar with masks, I can share a tutorial.
That would be appreciated thank you 🙏
Masking is the granddaddy of skills in Photoshop. Master masking and you're well on your way to conquering Photoshop. In graphic and web design as well as photograph retouching, masking is the fastest and easiest way to erase layers without actually erasing them. This allows you to fine tune your adjustments and graphics down to the pixel withou...
Thank you
When I paste the new layer is put above the old layer. Then when I merge them the new merged layer gets the name of the newly created layer from the paste. In that process the name of the old layer is gone.
Is there a way to prevent that from happening? I mean how to preserve the layer name of the original layer?
Currently I have to manually move the new layer down below the original layer before I do the merge.... another tedious step to perform.
know that masks are one of the pillars of Photoshop. So it's really something that should be learned very early on in the process. another good way to learn the basics is to go to** help>hands on tutorials** and start by choosing "beginner" in the drop down menu, mask are right there.
Same, , but you can still select the layer below before you paste and it will be paste where it makes sense for you
You can also create an action that moves it in the stack and renames it, if that name is consistent
alright so before the paste I select the layer below the current one and so the new layer is then inserted below the original layer, thereby keeping that layername when I merge with the newly created layer below.
In the action, use the shortcuts CTRL+ [ or CTRL +] to move the layer on top or below the one selected, irrespective of the one selected, otherwise the action will try to find the layer selected with the same name as the one it had when you set up the action (if that makes sense)
Exactly
Im transforming a selection and it looks to be transformed like I wanted it to. But then when I press done it changes it, where some of the pixels are made semi transparent? How do I avoid that and force it to look EXACTLY like in the transformation BEFORE I click on "Done"?
See my process here
See how the left side of the shadow is changed after pressing Done
Can you share a bigger screenshot? (the whole of the interface would be ace)
This is likely an issue with the interpolation
test the one that works for you (it might not be the one I'm showing here)
THis one in the tool option is an override of the one set as default in the preferences
also sometimes, and particularly if you repeatedly etransform layers content, the best outcome is achieved with smart layers (they retain the layer content without introducing artifacts due to multiple interpolations)
the way you resize is with the move tool and not the transform feature, meaning that you don't get the options. Instead do with CTRL+T and you'll get the options
Check what you have in the preferences too
I found the menu for it in the transform, it appears after clicking on the white square transform thingy. I changed it from Bicubic to Nearest Neightbor. Unfortunately it still destroys pixels upon clicking Done.
what you see before commiting to the transform isn't the reality, it's a rough visualisation, you need to test all sorts of interpolations and commit each time (otherwise you won't see the real result)
I don't want ANY interpolation
As long as you resize, you'll have some interpolation
Try nearest neighbor
How do you think Photoshop creates pixels without interpolation?
Sorry, Im thankful for your help
Try nearest neighbor and let us know how it looks
No that's not what I mean is stupid. Obviously there's going to be a choice for the program when scaling; 2 pixels gets compressed: shoudl we keep both pixels still? Or go to 1 pixel only? Or add a shaded edge interpolation?
and check your preferences
But the fact that it isn't showing me this BEFORE I click Done is mindbuggling.
default settings aren't targeted at pixel art, this is primarily a program to retouch photos, so you need to tweak things to make it work for your specific task
I have never done pixel art, so the default settings are more aimed at me (a photo retoucher)
That's up to you to find the right settings
Well, I use (rarely but still) other programs similar to Photoshop and the transform before commit will always show you a quick visualisation. So, I'm sure there is constrain of some sort, although it's not for me to tell as I know nothing about programming.
Again, feel free to ask in the community forum "idea" section and see if the request gets traction.
The thing is: I am not an Adobe employee and sometimes I get into the same hurdle and frustrating stuff as everyone else, and I'm sure the other mods/power users are in the same boat. Unless someone takes to the keyboard and lay it down in writing in the right forum, then it's unlikely to be seen and recognised. I did for the things that bugged me, and I know for a fact that some stuff have moved on (the KB layout in Bridge have changed for the better, as a result of direct action of the users)
Again, power in numbers, an idea with lots of backing will get noticed.
Thank you for your thoughtful responses
No worries, I know it's frustrating. For me it's the PNG export in Bridge, I feel like I'm screaming back at the void, but on he other hand, I accept that as long as most people don't use Bridge, the massive feedback won't happen.
Fortunately, there are external plugins that do the job, so it's a lesser pain than nothing.
How do I copy and paste a selection from multiple layers like in the screenshot? Im accepting that the paste will happen to a new layer. But currently I can only get it to copy the content from the top selected layer?
CTRL+Click on each layer needed will select the pixel content on said layers
You need to CTRL+click on the layer thumbnail (not on the name or elsewhere)
SHIFT to add the the first selection, as usual, so it's SHIFT+CTRL+click (and then of course, CTRL+C and CTRL+V to copy and paste)
Annnnd, on that note, I will have to retreat for the day, some work still needs to get done! 👋
ctrl-clikc on the layer frame unfortunately adds ALL content from the layer into an expansion of the selection. I only wanted the content from MY selection.
You can see here how it changed the selection to enclose everything from winFrame layer.
of course, thanks for all your help!

hey! does anyone know the texture brushes used here in this artwork ?
I am trying to download Photoshop for the first time, and to do so, the Installer needs me to log in. Yet when I try to do that, the Adobe ID system refuses to work. I've tried on multiple browsers, and I've tried multiple times over the last 48hrs. Can anyone help?
Opera isn't supported so if you're using that, it probably won't work. Also, you should sign in to your Adobe Account first. Then download the Creative Cloud app installer. Install the CC App. Then use that to install Photoshop. https://creativecloud.adobe.com/apps/download/creative-cloud?promoid=GVTYXZK9&mv=other
Access Adobe Creative Cloud apps, services, file management, and more. Sign in to start creating.
I'm using Google Chrome.
Though, as I've realised since posting this, might it be the fact that I'm trying to download Photoshop Elements 2020 that's causing the issue?
Do you have an Adobe Account?
