@wet thistle very cool!
@sleek ermine love the colours ๐
@sleek ermine Love it!
@sleek ermine nice! what are they drinking...? is that.. a white claw?! haha
lol its actually a spray can I got from https://unsplash.com/photos/tADorhJAE6o ๐
@sleek ermine hah! even better
Day 5 on a calendar page: Calendar mockup from AdobeStock, January from blankcalendarpages.com. The wallpaper is something I concocted many years ago.
@glacial path Thanks. That was really cool to get an online critique. Thanks @jaunty quest and Adam Koon. I went back and raised the opacity on the image and then did a little camera raw to try to even out the exposure. It's a night shot of a boy raising his hands for carnival throws. The image between his arms is part of the float.

These days I did not have much time to do the challenges ๐ , but I promise to finish by the weekend ๐ ๐ , here is the challenge 6
Challenge 6: Gradients
Thoughts? Too campy? Too busy? ๐
Submitting my final for day 6. This was the hardest one for me, but am glad to say that the brush stroke art board i made myself
My T-shirt
Day 6 tshirt design
Daily Challenge 6
Hello Everyone! I hope everyone is having a great day! Here's my Day 1 and Day 2!
Day 2
@quaint thistle Haha, that's a hilarious mockup idea! Love it ๐ The design it self is also very clean and could totally pass as a real stamp design ๐ Well done!
Not my best, defiantly the hardest challenge for me. Thanks for the kind words in advance.
@dusty pond Great design, using a gradient in the background helps to tie the whole mockup together as it reflects the design of the print on the shirt. You could probably crop the image to better use the frame. I would also recommend tightening the mask of the marble head. Luckily this isn't that hard to do ๐ - If you're using a layer mask (and I hope you are), CMD/CTRL click the layer mask to create a selection based on the mask. Then contract the selection slightly (maybe 1 px)
now invert the selection using CMD/CTRL+Shift+i . finally you can fill this selection with black. This should hopefully shrink the visible area of the layer mask by 1px
I need some help on lighting by moonlight.
Alternatively, if you don't like this workflow, you can try to decontaminate the edge. @dusty pond
@glacial path Thank you very much for your feedback! ๐ฅฐ

@young karma I suppose you're talking about the banding effect?
and how to make it look more like this?
@glacial path Exactly. How did you do that?
Day 6 - Not very happy with the colours, I can't get the colour of the T-shirt right. I will give my eyes some sleep and look at into tomorrow ๐
@young karma may I ask how you have added the glow?
I just want to make sure you're Photoshop settings are correct ๐
I have used an outer glow
@glacial path outer glow on the moon image. I think I should have experimented with blending.
Your blending options should look like this (apart from the blending mode. you could also use "screen")
you don't have to copy the sliders exactly ๐
If I use this Contour I can achieve the look of your version.
perhaps this is the culprit
Gave +1 Creative Carma to evil
@glacial path That's the one I used. Thank you for your help, I'm going to fix it right now. ๐
Awesome! ๐
One more tip, the stars are showing through the building and the trees in the foreground. I think stars are not supposed to do that ๐
if possible try to put the star layer behind the layers of the moon, the building and the trees
you can then adjust the colors of those layers individually ๐
@glacial path I can't figure it out. The star layer is the very bottom. I was going to try to pass it off as snow.
which blending modes are you using for these layers?
My guess would be screen?
if so, try changing them to normal
you might have to adjust the color grading after that
@glacial path bottom is linear and the copy layer is color. I will experiment more with blending modes.
@young karma alright, looks like that's the cause of the snow/stars ๐ Let me know if you encounter any other problems
I chose fun colors. I put shadows on all the layers.
@young karma when experimenting with the glow, don't be scared to use larger glow radii ๐
if you look at real reference images, the haze around the moon can be huge!
Amazing job
@young karma You could also use selection tools to select your objects that the stars are showing up on, then mask out those shapes on the stars layer if you want to keep those specific blend modes that are causing them to show through.

@oblique anvil Thank you for the compliment, I'm excited to build the calendar out, all 12 months!!
here's my go!
@lunar mango This is great! Really awesome work, I love what you did with the text and the shadow , adds a really great sense of depth. This whole image works really nicely, nice hierarchy of sizes. I think a little shadow under the characters could really help strengthen that depth too. Very nicely done!
@short mica Nice work, you have some really interesting textures and effects going on with this. I like the textured break up of the figure you got, I think you could push that a little more even. Maybe towards the bottom/sides of the figure, and maybe break up the line of the neck on the right so itโs a little more textured rather than a straight line across. Might also help to use a levels adjust to boost the brightness of the figure just a bit to make it pop a bit more. Just some thoughts, nice job!
@young karma Very cool, I really like the splattered paint background for the business cards, the text contrasts nicely with it as well. The stone postcard challenge is looking really nice too! I think it could be interesting to try and push more of a sense of lighting in that one. For example, maybe the vertical wall could be a bit darker and the floor you could be a bit brighter to give a sense of a natural top down lighting and separate the planes to give a feeling of depth and 3D form. Nice work!
@blazing quail Very nice, thereโs some really nice shapes going on in this design! I think it could help to make a levels adjustment layer on the monkey to brighten it up a bit to match it with the lighting and feel and contrast of the house. It might help fit the two together a bit more. Looking good!
@left basin This is cool! I like the way you have the top text span across two planes. The wormhole type thing is a really neat effect, and I wonder if you could integrate it into the image a bit more by having the light from it affect the text a bit. Perhaps you could clip a color dodge layer or something to the text and pick a warm yellowish tone to cast just a bit of light onto the letters closest to it. Just enough that you get a slight gradient effect. It could make all the objects feel like they fit together a bit more. Nicely done!
@sudden creek This is looking nice, I like the softness of the whole thing! I think currently the childโs face looks a bit dark or shadowed, but I think it might help to brighten it up a little bit to make it a stronger focal point and strengthen that soft bright feel of the image. You could do this with a masked levelโs adjustment layer or a color dodge layer with a soft brush. The edge around the arm on the left side also looks a bit rough, but the quick selection tool and the refine edge tool within it works really nicely to select natural looking edges. Good job!
@humble belfry I love this! Very 90s Hypercolor tshirt era combos ๐
Day 5 Calendar MockUp
I made a few small adjustments and then mocked it up. The one element I'd used puppet warp on, was ultimately deleted.
Is the texture distracting?
@coral cloak The texture doesnโt seem too distracting, but Iโm not sure itโs adding anything to the design. Itโs maybe a little confusing. Hope that helps.
An expansion of my business card label/company into an apparel line. This one I had to keep simple and short so I could get some sleep tonight! Enjoy, gradients are always fun to play with and they'll continue to be a trend in design for 2020.
I hope everyone is having a fantastic day. Here's my Day 3! Thank you!
A quick job, since I have some catching up to do.
My Day 1 challenge. More to come.
This was a fun challenge! I like how rough the selection is with the silhouette trees and how it has an unclean edge. Thoughts? Yes ๐ / No ๐

Day 5 - Compositing challenge. Trying to balance the negative space on this one was hard. Perhaps my wheat could be bigger in the foreground?
Calendar mock-up of the Day 5 - Compositing challenge. Happy with how this looks. Could it be the beginning of a new series? Should I complete images for the entire 2020 calendar?
@uneven kindle glorious lion man
Hey, now I'm up to date. Here's my #6 challenge design! Thanks for feedback and critique!
@forest gulch Super. Your compositions, how you placed elements together look great! โบ๏ธ My favourite the biggest one, with circles and rings. The last one at the bottom corner, maybe Kathleens advice would work to make sure you place the design 2 inches below the neck line.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to Aurelija Norkunaite
@young karma Thanks for your feedback. Do you mean the circles in the last design should positioning under the neckline? I will try that! Thanks!
@forest gulch nah, she means that the entire design is to high on the T-shirt. Decrease the size and lower the design.
@forest gulch ๐
The hand of the Statue of Liberty holding the torch is either cut by the rib at the neck line or is very very close to it. I spotted that by the bottom edge of that same shirt you still have some space to pull the statue or the entire design a bit lower. โบ๏ธ

@glacial delta Thanks! Btw I think all designs can be a litte bit smaller. ๐
@young karma Cool! Thanks for the feedback. I will change that.
Day 5 - Compositing. I definitely need to practice more removing background of the images. It was a little hard for me.
@young karma your selections look great to me

Still working on my t-shirt design. I tried making my graphic in Illustrator and working with it as a smart object. I discovered the Align item in the layers menu after struggling with that. I just searched "align" in the help search bar because I didn't even know if it existed.
Do you think the black background works? Or is it too dark compared to the bright illustration?
๐ฏ
@thorny quarry Love this shirt design! Really liking the background change on the latest version. Iโm a big fan of 80s designs too, hah. I think perhaps the design of the dog on the shirt could be brightened up a bit to match the background a bit more. Currently the design on the shirt almost looks a little dull/dark in comparison. I think a little boost using a levels adjustment would be perfect. Nicely done!
@supple canopy Great design, really loving those colors and shapes within the moose silhouette! Nice presentation as well!
@willow nebula I like the design colors, thereโs a nice contrast to them! In terms of the presentation I think it could be nice to have the red be a bit lighter. Currently itโs close to the same value as the dark blue of the shirt, and a lighter color might help pop out the shirt overall a bit more. Looking good!
@quaint thistle Nice work! Hah, the stamp design is great, nice job with the color grading. Day 2 is looking really neat too, I like the clean design of it all. It could even be cool to see the orientation switch on the business card since itโs such a vertical design. Nicely done!
@humble belfry Ooh, really liking those bright 80s/90s sunset colors. Really nice use of shapes too. It could be nice to use a levels adjustment or something to boost the darker tones in the yellow area of the giraffes face. The giraffe head would make a nice focal point but it's currently overpowered by the contrast of the darker tones around it. Just a small nitpick, and it's really just personal preference. Love this!
@bleak fossil Thank you! after looking at it again today, the sweatshirt does look saturated. Def going use your tip.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to SamPetersonArt
@dusty pond Design is looking solid! I like how clear contrasting the statue head is while still reflecting some of the colors of the rest of the design. The way it breaks the frame of the background shapes looking really nice too!
@magic hedge I like the earthy colors you have for this shirt design, it really feels on theme as a presentation. The texture on the shirt is a really cool touch too. Nice work with this design!
@minor sapphire Looking good! I like the silhouette on the sunset looking background. Nice work!
@hexed patrol These challenges are looking good, I like the texture you got in both of these. The style of the day 1 challenge is is also really interesting, I like the font. Well done!
@oblique anvil i'm glad the magic search bar was helpful for you! so you connected AI to PS with smart objects? AWESOME cross-application workflow!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to SamPetersonArt
@bleak fossil Thanks for the feedback Sam, I'll adapt the background. When finishing the presentation, I was almost not able anymore to distinguish blue from yellow (only a slight exaggeration ๐ )
@bleak fossil Thank you! I appreciate your feedback)
Gave +1 Creative Carma to SamPetersonArt
Day 6 with a brighter red in the background following @bleak fossil 's feedback
@willow nebula The red definitely makes it pop more! I think maybe somewhere in between the two could be nice? Lighter so it pops out the shirt more, but not so saturated that it competes for attention. Nice work ๐
@bleak fossil I'll keep on sliding! Thanks!

A bit behind this week Day 5 Cushman scooter starter motor turned exo-comp, need help making the feet look more metal like...
@oblique anvil Really nice compositing work on this image! The masking all looks really good and you fit a lot of images together. I think it looks great, but I think perhaps you could try and control some of the contrast to nail down a stronger visual hierarchy. For example the plant in the bottom right could perhaps be a bit smaller to not compete as much with the bird, background flower, and other large shapes. It could also be nice to focus the lighting and value contrast towards the bird which seems like the natural focal point by applying a little shadow to darken down other bright areas. Hopefully that makes sense. Hereโs a rough example. (The mockup on the calendar looks great BTW!)
@plain sable To get a metal look I think perhaps darkening them down a bit, and increasing the contrast might help. Usually metal is pretty shiney, so deeper darks and and overall greater contrast might help give more of a metal look.
Thanks @bleak fossil I'll give it a try
Gave +1 Creative Carma to SamPetersonArt
Thank you @bleak fossil for the feedback. I see what you mean about hierarchy. I'll try to get back to it. Thanks again.

@urban lintel Wow! Your poster looks so professional. Love the font, the colors, everything!
Day 7
Challenge 7: Create a Poster
Brushes challenge
I had to get Mike Hat in there! Do the colors read ok? I kept the siloed objects at low opacity so I could use a light touch with the crosshatch brush and yet still have the forms be identifiable. Any thoughts? Thanks, folks!
@faint jungle Great work on this, I love the texture and quality you got on the phonograph! I think the colors read nicely and I like the blue-orange palette, but I think everything might pop out a bit more if the background was lightened ever so slightly? It might help the darker shapes you have stand out, and brighten up an otherwise somewhat dark image. Really nice design!
@hybrid yacht Really like the sort of psychedelic colors on the background shapes of your shirt design! The whole design has some nice contrast and a good read but I wonder if you could maybe boost up the contrast/dark tones of the top of the head with a masked levels adjustment layer so it just affects the very top. That might help it become a stronger focal point with more contrast closer to what the bottom/middle of the statue has. Just a thought, nice work on this!
@oblique anvil Nice, I really like this mock up, it looks great. I like how the subtle shadows of the shirt effect the design in a natural way. Really cool design too, thereโs a really nice balance of shapes, colors, and spacing.
@wispy compass Ooh, cool shapes in this! I like the contrast in the yellow shapes to the blue in his face. This is more of a nitpick, but it could be to vary the angle of the top shape a bit more if youโre going for a parallel look exactly. I think itโs better to have it be parallel or if youโre having it break away from that to push it further so itโs more obvious and dramatic. Either way itโs looking good!
@young karma I think the masking around the hands and flowers looks really good! Did you use the refine edge tool within the quick selection tool? I often find that can really help me refine my edges when I need to make them more perfect. I really like the clean design of this whole image!
@hidden pendant Thatโs great Trish, thereโs definitely some really cool looks coming out of this challenge! I really like the sort of watercolor feel the child seems to have. Itโs a really nice soft gradient, and I like how the foot breaks the frame a bit. Nicely done!
Day 7 - Brushes. I'm really happy with the book illustration. I'd like feedback on the drop shadow. Is the angle ok? Y๐/N๐

PSA THIS IS A REAL BAND AND THEY ARE RAD. https://www.honeyhoundsmusic.com this is also a real concert, on a real date at a real bar (but I made up the ticket price and don't know the time so check out their site for more details)
I think the illustration came out well, but I'm not so sure about the typography. Thoughts?
Used the brush method from the challenge, then added a smart oil paint filter below the brush layer. ๐ค ???
Day 7. I didn't post a mock up. It's the same as everyone's.
Just finished day 4... not sure how I feel about this album cover. What do you think?
@barren cairn spectacular! In the close-up the entire word is legible, but in the full view 'ing' is a tiny bit illegible. Can you try a shadow on the ing to make it pop or outline 'ing' with a darker shade of the gradient fill? Or add a vertical stripe to those three letters so it looks like they're fading and falling?
@humble belfry that's one of the most spectacular posters I've ever seen! The mix of solid tones and gradient is stunning and appealing to the eye.
Challenge7 took me a day of colouring in cause I chose a complex image (just band outline) ๐ .
it's upsetting that it is so late at night. i would love to watch the live stream but i live in AUS so i need to wait till 2:30

@forest gulch Really nice work on these! Challenge 6 came out nicely, I esepcially like the largest design on the left. Really nice balance of shapes balance between the two colors, well done!
@minor sapphire Very cool! I think perhaps you could push the visual hierarchy in terms of size a bit more between the plants. They all seem to roughly be around the same size visually, having one be more of a standout in terms of a smaller object and larger object might help balance it out a bit more. Perhaps even having the purple plant learn to the left might balance out the image that is otherwise fairly heavy towards the right. Just some thoughts, looking good!
@urban zinc Really interesting concept for the calendar challenge! If you wanted to soften the sea water perhaps a really subtle blur might help get rid of the sharp edges if that's what you're going for. It also might help to increase the contrast on the children, or decrease the contrast on the landscape to make them fit together more, since atmospheric perspective makes things less contrasty (especially in the shadows) the further away they are. Nice work compositing these together, the selections look good!
@ruby panther Hmmm, the purple is a bit visually heavy, but I donโt think dramatically so. Perhaps tweaking down the saturation of the purple slightly might strike a balance you like? Overall I really like the combination between these bold and earthy colors. Nice work on this design!
@uneven kindle Nice job with the Day 6 design, I like how the lighting on the body and lion head seems to be quite consistent which really helps them fit together nicely. The green shirt seems a bit bold and seems to overpower the design a bit, perhaps toning down the saturation just a touch will help strengthen the design as a focal point. Nice job!
@limber birch hard choice. I think like the top one better.
@kindred kernel these are so pretty!
Used Kyle's Big Bad Wolf brush to create individual patterns. Used Perspective Warp tool to add perspective to pattern on right wall.
Day 8
hello all - i loooove patterns!! here is one applied to the starter files!
there is a new pattern maker feature on the mobile capture app .... you can choose your images and place them!!
@humble belfry Nice work!
@limber birch I think I like the first one better, but no particular reason, Both are nice!
Day 6: t-shirt: I used an Adobe mockup for the shirt, the palette is a necklace made by one of my students, and I've used the Art Centers summer run as a topic. Textures by Adobe Paper Texture Pro plug-in.
Day 7: Poster - When I found this wonderful phot on Pixabay of two ole men playing checkers with bottle caps, I knew it was the ideal image for my Game Nite poster. I ย took the image through camera raw after I made it a smart object, adding clarity and texture galore, while opening up the shadows and toning down the highlights. in PS, I duplicated the layer and used the filter > stylize >ย find edges > soft light in the filter dialog box. Then I changed the whole layer to overlay to give things a gritty feel. I combined all the layers and effects into a new smart object, which I ran Filter > Stylize > Oil Paint, and adjusted the sliders to fit the image. So that's my long way around t get to a painting ๐ In the poster template Kathleen gave us, I used the Scrabble tiles that I created yesterday for a Game Nite flyer, and added some text. Some of the details have been deliberately overlooked for privacy. ย did add color adjustment layers and texture overlays to the wall and poster frame.
@static coral Really nice use of texture in this poster design! The colors are really cool, almost looks like glow in the dark paint, or neon colors reacting under a black light. Well done!
@hearty wharf You really nailed the painterly effect on this one! It really adds a lot of character to the image and fits the toy fair theme well. Did you use the mixer brush for this? I remember Jesus going over that effect in a previous DCC and it works really nicely.
@smoky matrix Very nice! I like the background texture/image on this design. I wonder if you could play with the sizing a bit and make the "Riverrock" text even bigger to really act as an attention grabber. It might also look nice to move the vertical text on the sides down a bit so they donโt crowd the Riverrock text. Just some thoughts, nice work!
@fast moth Nice work! This is kind of a personal preference, but I feel like a blue light behind could really make this image pop. There's a little bit of blue in the bottom right, and adding in something like a blue like could make that a nice repeated element while also creating a strong contrast against the orange in the image and really making him pop out as a focal point. Might also reinforce that DJ/club vibe. Though that really depends on what you're trying to do with the image, nicely done!
@fallow bough Really great job on this mock up with the reflections showing through, really sells it. I really like the contrast of your design too, everything is balanced really nicely and reads well. Looks good!
@cold cedar Very cool! Really liking the design and colors in this. Though I do think that the entire design (aside from the phone's colors) seems kind of old and classic, but the high levels of saturation and neon feel of colors on the phone does seem to fit quite as much. I wonder if just toning down the saturation a bit will still keep that interesting colorful feel while making it fit the rest of theme a bit more. Either way really nice job, I really like that text!
@pulsar walrus Really interesting design! It took me a second to see the face, cool effect! I wonder if this design might benefit from a little bit more breathing room around the edges. Currently the front of the face seems so close to the edge, it almost feels a bit cramped. It might also help to center up the text a bit more. Just a couple small notes, really nice work on this, the shapes look good!
admittedly this is a boring pattern.... I did this more for the practice. @sterile bane
I had a little more fun with this pattern . . . . although I'm still struggling with making the pattern tile itself.
Challenge 5 alot late. Out of town and sick.
thank you very much @bleak fossil - if you convert an image into a pixel layer in fresco, you can go over it with a clear oil brush and shift the colour around ... bit of a cheat! ๐

Here's my update @bleak fossil. "Lower the ringer," i.e., toned down the saturation. Looks more like a chocolate phone now so maybe I should add a rose, since it's getting close to Valentine's Day.
Hi to everyone! I am on a "weekend get away" so gonna post a really simple wallpaper pattern submission. I am so wildly happy to see capture patterns are in photoshop now! amazing. Thank You Kathleen for great stream, maybe Sunday I will be able to post more adequate work.
@supple canopy wow, you are brave - i hope your eye surgery was not too dramatic, great you are already back working on a challenge!
@sturdy vault poor you - hope you are feeling better! i like your background no.2 ...
@hearty wharf thanks. I was feeling better but going down hill again.

@sturdy vault oh no - all the best, hope you get some rest, at least there is a weekend coming up!
Challenge#8: Patterns - FUN EXERCISE! Excited about making my own patterns in the future! Thank you @sterile bane and @brittle slate
Gave +1 Creative Carma to Kathleen
Some of these patterns are hard to look at, tbh. But technically everyone is making it happen!
w@keen granite that couch is cute ๐
@keen granite (the purple one)
I'm not happy that the pattern is visible, like horizontal rows... so if I had more time, I'd redo it so the pattern looks more random.
This was a more "technical" exercise than the others and I need to practice more! I sort of failed but don't have more time this evening. Good exercise, though!
@vague shuttle Thank you!

๐ Thanks @urban lintel I used Adobe Draw to do the face ๐
@bold valley Great design on the shirt! The style looks great on a white shirt, I wish the "Islands" part was a bit more legible ๐ . Perhaps you can move it up a bit. I would also use a slightly brighter color for the upper gradient color stop.
@wispy compass I gotta say, I like the black & white version a lot! It still shows the pattern but it feels more reduced. Just make sure to make the pattern seamless ๐ . Kathleen demonstrated a great technique on stream ๐
And don't scale the pattern up too much or you'll start to see the pixels ๐
@pine sparrow Bad? Retro! I like how you have added some stripes to break up the pattern ๐ The mask looks very clean and the lighting seems to be very similar to the real wallpaper. Well done ๐
@urban lintel yeah, I feel the pain. Trying to make a pattern look like it's not a pattern is really difficult. The only thing that helps is to reduce the unique features which stand out the most. Using a bigger pattern can also help ๐
the pattern itself though is really nice. The pastel look matches the sofa really well and the light falloff is very natural. great job ๐
@dim brook I wonder... which blend mode did you use for this pattern ?
Thanks @glacial path ......I used the same technique Kathleen used ...filter / other / offset...my image was 600 sq ...vertical / horizontal was set +300 / -300 with wrap and it transformed the image into 4 panels...the only way to get it to look right on the template was to expand the pattern..I'm doing something wrong...
Gave +1 Creative Carma to evil
@glacial path - The pattern is a png, so it just picked up the stock image below.
Day 8
@sudden creek Nicely done! This pattern doesn't even look like it repeats ๐ - although I believe you've cheated slightly by making it one big pattern ๐ฎ . In this case you probably wouldn't even have to convert it to a pattern first before you can apply it. Anyway, the rain drops look great and the main subject with all the vibrant colors is a beautiful contrast to the desaturated room in the background. The shadow would probably be even softer (given the huge light source above), so I would perhaps blur it even more using the gaussian blur filter.
@dim brook I see! Try to play around with the blend modes like Multiply - it should allow the texture of the fabric to show through ๐
@glacial path ...this is the pattern enlarged.
@glacial path will do... but I'm seeing texture... no?
@young karma This is great ๐ I don't think I have seen a lot of dark walls with a bright pattern on it ๐ - The pattern itself looks very organic and you don't really notice the repeated elements
@glacial path Thanks for the comments. The shirt is an actual shirt I received. So, I copied the text, did a little drop shadow, and nudged the turtle down a bit. Also, darkened the gradient some.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to evil
@dim brook this would be the difference
the upper pattern just has a transparent background. the lower pattern also has the blend mode set to multiply ๐
lesson on patterns. a big thank you to Pexels.com for the pic. should I do some shading on the pattern?

@glacial path thanks, it resembles camouflage to me.. just wrong colours ๐ anyway, yeah, i put little heart in that one, but happy you are so positive about it!
Day 8: Patterns. My second try at patterns. I painted this plaid pattern and used the old-fashioned way to make it a well-repeating pattern. Room is from AdobeStock and the paining of me on the wall is from a website several years ago that let you build your own peanut character. I know, the pink plaid is a bit much, but it is an homage to my favorite flannel shirt, which is seriously old and worn out and won't last much longer before it falls apart.

@glacial delta I live in Aus as well, so I know how you feel about being to late to live stream. On saying that I often find myself still playing with my challenge at midnight, so maybe we get more time to play.
The live-stream starts at 4am on the following day here. Tomorrow's will be 4am Saturday morning for me. Summer has made it much easier to get out of bed, so has being on summer break from teaching ๐
do you think the wallpaper pattern is too plain? i tried more complex patterns but they seemed too busy

I didn't like my efforts of using the brush so I have redone this using Painterly, the action supplied over Christmas with the Create Magazine.
@urban zinc Great way to show the pattern in a setting where it doesn't have to dominate. I like it!
Day 8 - I thought it was really hard to make the repetition of the pattern invisible - the seamless pattern seems not seamless, it seems...

Oops, I posted in the wrong place last night and just saw I am using the same image as @vital cloud. But ... Don't quite have the hang of patterns yet but here what I have so far. How can I improve the look?

im a few days behind but i really like the color scheme i chose even tho im not really a digital illustrator ๐ค https://www.behance.net/gallery/90855359/11520-Photoshop-Daily-Creative-Challenge-Day-7
@forest aspen These are great, really nice work! The background texture on the Day 6 shirt design looks really nice and offers a great contrast to the shirt design without being overpowering. The painted/illustrated effect on got on the game nite poster is awesome, really adds nicely to the theme and mood. I like what you did with the title text as well, very nice work all around!
@urban zinc It definitely pops out! I like the color scheme the pattern adds to the room. Maybe just a little bit of shadow (I like to use a multiply layer with a light, desaturated purple tone) could make it seem a little less intense and set it in the scene more. Itโs subtle, but maybe something like this? Nice work!
Used something Paulk Trani covered in Masterclass. Not sure if the effect is apparent at this size..
@static coral Nice work, I like how the color in the wood floor is reflected in the wall pattern! I think you might have the ceiling and wall stretching the shapes, when they should be condensing them if they're coming towards us. Kind of like if we see a circle straight on its undistorted, but if it "comes at us" at and angle, it becomes a more flattened ellipse. You can do this fairly easily with edit->transform->perspective. I use this all the time to transform flat images into perspective. Here's an example, and the second image is what the transformation looks like.
@bleak fossil I was having the same problem, thanks for the tip.

No problem, happy to help!
Day 7 Poster. This one took a while to figure out how to make the shape of the boombox recognizable using brushes. It also took a while figuring out which brushes had the texture I needed.
Little improvement
Day 9 - I don't have an Adobe Stock license, so I decided to remove the word from the stock photo and to make some free publicity on Piccadilly Circus. A lot to retouch! I didn't replace the Hyundai square, because it reflects on the statue. And also because it's Friday night...
Day 9 - Retouching. I should have spent more time on this one getting the steps aligned and the edges refined after changing it from a portrait to landscape concept. I'll probably do so before uploading to my portfolio.
Tried to use Content aware move to place over boards but tool kept blending boards into skater's body.
tile floor mixed with Taraso .
I was thinking a billboard, even a silly fake one, should be advertising something. If you don't get it, then we probably watch entirely different TV.
Day 9 - Billboard. I did more add & extend retouching on this that I did subtract. Lake from Unsplash, pirate ship, VW and billboard from PixelSquid, road at night from Pixabay, UFO from pngimg. The twisted imagination is all me. I had to improvise, as I'm about out of AdobeStock licenses for this month . . .

Day 9
I had to remove part of a bicycle from one of the pictures, and some bollards from the other. I found that process pretty easy because I've been using those tools a lot. What really stumped me was making the placeholder for the billboards. I was making the shape (selection/rectangle) conform to the shapes of the signs before converting them to smart objects. But found when I did just a rough rectangle and then converted to a SO before distorting it to fit, that it worked! Such a simple thing, but it was a steep learning curve for me. Overall I learned a lot from this series, as I always do from you, Kathleen.๐
catching up this weekend here is my pattern! The smart object trick is really amazing. I was playing around with opacity layers trying to make the pattern more realistic on the wall any tips?

Day 6....finally finished all the challenges ๐ ! Thanks for the hosting @somber moth, I learned a lot!
hello all - here is my billboard challenge! hope you are having a great weekend!
here is the retouched image ...
really wanted to add the poster on to the other starter file ...
thanks so much for another great challenge!
@kindred kernel Nice work on these Gerard! The mock ups are looking solid. It could be nice to see the original image for the one with the tractor if you removed any objects or anything. Looks good!
@neat shale This is a really interesting color scheme! I like how the whole thing kind of looks like glow in the dark paint or something. Which I think is fitting for a poster for a music festival or club or something like that. Everything is so bold that I feel like perhaps the sizing/shapes on the design itself could be a bit more bold. Maybe larger text or something, something that makes it pop out a bit more if that makes sense. Really cool design!
@tacit condor hah, nice work on this! I like the color of shirt with this design. I think the background is currently overpowering the design a bit, perhaps toning down the saturation just a touch might balance it out a bit more. Nice job!
@willow nebula Hmm, I don't think I see any seam, it looks pretty solid to me! The blue-red color scheme looks good, and the mock up looks really good! The lamp almost kind of gets lost with the colors of the wall, I wonder if making it a light grey color or something similar to the couch would make the whole read more clear, but that's really just a small detail if you wanted to do any more on this design. Nicely done!
@blazing quail Very cool! I was trying that Painterly action out too, really interesting stuff, first time I've used an action like that. I think it works really well in this design, the colors really add to that loose painted feel. I'm a big Elvis fan too hah, nice work!
@craggy lake I really like how you handled this whole design! The lines really add a nice element of movement to the runner, and the way you used the colors of the runner work really well. The rest of the text being orange offers a nice balance to all those colors. Really great texture too!
@cloud edge Ooh, this is really cool how you added all this different elements together! They have a nice balance to them. The color scheme works really well too, it gives it a nice soft cohesive feel. If I had any suggestion it might be to make one element of the women more prominent than the rest to give the focal point a stronger read. Perhaps the lady in the middle could stay the same as a strong central focal point, and the figure on the left could be lowered in opacity. It might give the whole image a stronger 1-2-3 read. Nice work on these, the masking looks really solid!
@young karma Very nice! The text you used fits that theme well. I feel like this design could have more of a visual impact and focal point if you made of the elements bigger to give it more of a visual hierarchy. Either the text or phonograph could be scaled up to be a more prominent element. Looks good!
@uneven kindle Nicely done, really interesting design and I like the color scheme! Really cool to see all the interesting designs that can be done with this method.
@fast moth Very cool, it's interesting to see the same design used in such different lighting and color schemes! I really like how you kept the lighting in the scenes, especially in the top design with the strong shadows from the window light. Though it seems like you're losing the crispness of the design a bit in the middle areas in shadow. Not sure if this is just a blending more issue, or perhaps a masking one, but sharpening up those designs so they all read consistently while still keeping that lighting information would really make this shine. Nice work!
@fallow bough Ooh, this is a really cool effect. I like the monochromatic look of the whole image, it really helps direct attention more towards the text effect and her name. Very cool!
@wet thistle It's really cool how much color can transform the look and feel of an image. Really simple but changes so much. The pattern is very well composited in as well, nicely done!
@wet thistle Very nice Carry, I really like the gradient across the Day 6 design! Nice work finishing all the challenges!
@hexed patrol Puppet warp can definitely be a lot of fun. Nice work on this design, the plants and space background have a really nice contrast and visual balance! It could be nice to see a structure attached to the tree and even a filled out calendar design for the mock up image to really help sell the idea of what the design is for. Well done ๐
I'm behind on the challenge but here is my retouched billboard. Did some content-aware replacing, masking, warping and blend modes. Is it too harsh? Too busy? Oh, that's not a face behind the woman on the right but I like that it kind of looks like a face.
@young karma I like the black border but maybe try picking up the green from the glass and see how it looks.
@vague shuttle Not at all in MHO. I think the black really helps it stand out.
@cold cedar The blend modes look good on your retouched billboard. Did you lower the opacity on the background people to make the foreground person the main focus? Well done!
@bleak fossil - Thank you for the feedback. And thanks also to @sterile bane for hosting the challenge.

@young karma Looking good Willk! I like how the soft gradients and colors seem to fit the look and style of the more friendly/cartoony animal images. The bird breaking the frame adds a nice element of dimension too. Nice job!
@oak mist Really nice job on the perspective with the billboard mock up! The photo fits nicely two with how the warm colors in your design contrast with the cool colors in the rest of the image. Looks good!
@vague shuttle Fitting designs into mock ups can really be a lot of fun, seeing how designs could be applied in practical settings and all. Always cool to see multiple applications of a design with mock ups! Nice work, I really like this design. It looks great in the top image with how much color contrast there is to pull focus to your design. I think in both designs (but especially the bottom one on the garage door looking wall) it might help to lighten the text up more towards white to make it pop off the colorful design a bit more. It seems a bit hard to read in the bottom mock up and that might help it stand out. Really nice work on these!
you could b on to something, cheers again @bleak fossil I'll continue the experiment
@bleak fossil thank you very much

@magic rampart Thanks for the response. I should have posted in Ask-a-Question instead of tying it to my challenge upload.

Still playing catch up. I didn't put too much into these other than to learn what was done. Can't wait to start the next challenge tomorrow. Hopefully then I will put in more effort. Thanks everyone.
@tacit condor The touch ups look really solid! Nice work, that lighting seems like it could be tricky with the grass but the retouching looks great. Mockup looks good too, well done!
@rigid wolf Very cool! I like the soft gradients and colors of this one. I like the way the paw print at the bottom breaks the frame of the design too. I like what you did with the background, but I wonder if you could separate it more in terms of value or something so the shirt stands out more contrast wise. Maybe just simply darkening or brightening the background.
The Calendar looks great too, I really like the visual balance to the whole thing and how the center plant has a strong read as a focal point. Nicely done :D
@cold cedar Ooh, really interesting how you applied the design to a curved surface, it looks good! I think you could get a really solid 1-2-3 read if you made one of the figures between the girl and guy on the left side more prominent. That could be size or constraint wise. The focal point is really strong with the woman on the right side but the other two compete visually a bit. The masking looks really solid though I think the hair on the woman on the right could be refined a bit. Iโve had a lot of luck with the refine edge brush within the quick selection tool for complex hair like that. It takes a bit of careful refining but can have great results.
Thanks @bleak fossil I will do some more work on it. Refine edge is kind of my nemesis but I will try to make it my friend (LOL).
Gave +1 Creative Carma to SamPetersonArt
@bleak fossil Oh, I saw someone else had used something like a cylinder so then I thought, hmm, curve? Dare I? The warp tool was invaluable.
@bleak fossil Thx for your comment. You are right, the tee should work and the background should not be so present.

Hello everyone, need some help. Something went wrong with my wallpaper ...guess it is during filter - offset. Some advice? Thank you
@drifting compass ive noticed the best thing to do when using offset is setting the numbers to half the pixel size of the file you're making the pattern on. so if it's 600 x 600 pixels you set the offset to 300 and 300
Good morning/afternoon everyone! I'm doing my first Daily Creative Challenge! Starting in an hour! Come join me!
Thanks! Of course i will ๐
Lets do this1
Here's my photo editing final image, made from the starter file.
here's the avatar paul ๐
Ahh! You're killing me @visual bluff !!!
Hahahaha... Looks so fun! xD
I used some HDR toning and Levels on this one to make it pop more.
Very Good!
Most of the work is around my eyes. Removed some of the light glare on glasses, lightened dark circles under eyes and lightened eye whites. Remaining work was to reduce my neck waddle and touch up a few small blemishes. Also added color to shirt to help integrate with background.
Play-n @ lunch with brushes and Wacom.....Do you know of any Wacom practice exercises ?
sorry if wrong place but i cant get past the curves part to lighten under eyes everytime i sample a colour just turns photo like this , any help be appreciated
First before you say ANYTHING I know, is a crapy picture and should have taken it with better light... having said that I took the challenge to really try and make it better. FIRST, for some reason my forehead is blue, I need some ideas on how to change that (tried with Camera Raw and just made it worse). SECOND, I have this little curly annoying hair (the natural me) when I'm with a pony tail. Any ideas on how to lower down those? I'm not too experienced with selecting hair. Thanks!!
@hybrid yacht Had the same problem. Was clicking desired color without first double clicking on Sample button to bring up color picker first.
The original was heavy so i took an screen shot ๐ฆ

just trying fun though
thank you @fallow bough

@visual bluff oh dear, that's his lesser known twin brother... Kawaii Paul! Obviously you wouldn't warp the eyes and lips like this unless you or your client really likes that look ๐ . The color edits look great though - the shadows below the eyes are reduced and your mask is clean. Well done. You could perhaps find a slightly more exciting background ๐
@fallow bough As always, superb work! The subtle color of the shirt adds a lot and your lightwork really transformed the portrait ๐ - I would only slightly rotate the portrait to the right. It looks like you're leaning a bit to the left
@short mica Hm, I don't know any wacom specific exercises but I think I know a way how you can have some fun with the background without it being too busy ๐ - Right now it distracts from the main subject because of the vibrant colors and shapes. You could keep the background and use the art history brush to sample the colors.
To achieve this effect you have to hide the subject layer. Then you would open the history panel (Window -> History). In the history panel, check the most recent box (it should be the lowest one)
now you can select the art history brush tool from the toolbar (it might be hidden behind the history brush)
find a nice brush and use CMD + OPT (or CTRL + ALT) and left click to select the brush. Holding down CMD+OPT/CTRL+ALT will keep the art history brush tool active
now you can paint using that tool. depending on the brush preset, you will get completely different results ๐
@hybrid yacht Now this would be Halloween-Paul ๐ . When you first define the black point, you have to double click the black pipette
then you would click on the slightly brighter color on his cheek
after that, select the pipette by clicking once. now you can click somewhere below the eye
#challenge8pattern
@fossil kettle I think that's some great editing work! You could remove the blue color cast by increasing the color temperature ๐
in Camera Raw, select the adjustment brush
@glacial path That's a two-screen shot instruction panel..... I'm going to have to try this..... Not sure about the "NICE "brush( that'd be a great folder Nice brushes)๐
increase the color temperature to remove the blue and slightly increase the tint to bring in some healthy red tones @fossil kettle
now you can draw over the desired area ๐
this should fix it ๐
I didnt feel like spending time selecting my hair so I didnt use a different background
@hybrid yacht oh nevermind, looks like Ken already answered your question ^^
thank you @fallow bough

@bold plume This looks great! I like the cool background, especially the gradient-like planet with the clouds ๐ - Paul's skin looks a tiny bit too saturated, but I think that's just okay ๐
Hey @stark goblet please share a PNG or JPG so we can look at it without downloading it first ๐
@young karma Great mask ๐ It seems like you have shared your image as a GIF. I would highly recommend sharing it as a jpg or png. The GIF format only supports 256 colors which will reduce the color palette dramatically as you can see here
And don't be afraid to boost the exposure ๐
@pulsar walrus love the creative color work! Be sure not to blow out the highlights or you will lose details in the bright areas ๐
@hearty wharf A+ patch tool usage... the color work looks nice (maybe a bit dark for a sunny day on the beach ๐ค ). I would perhaps soften the mask around his dreamy hair a bit. You can use select and mask to refine it
you can also remove some of the green spill via the HSL Adjustments in Camera Raw ๐
@glacial path thanks for your kind feedback, i sent a compressed copy that the issue, but will try to more focused

@glacial path just found the video....48 sec looks very cool.... definitely on my todo list..as always ๐
clean up with clone and patch
@mighty linden I just tried to download the file and it wouldn't work for me. Just a heads up ๐
Challenge#1: Photo Editing - I need lots of people editing practice... this was a challenge!
thanks @glacial path will do! ๐
Gave +1 Creative Carma to evil
I apologize if this is not the right place to ask this question: Is the training for the challenge available on replay? When I clicked the link from the creative-challenge thread it sent me to another live video that was currently going on.
Hey @nova kernel ! Try this link https://www.behance.net/challenge/photoshop.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to sarah.nunez
@thorny quarry thank you very much!
It was really fun to do this one! ๐
My final for day 1. Not very happy but it will do. Learnt a great deal, but will have to rewatch the stream
Day 1 - Struggled a bit with the curves feature at first, but after that I had a lot of fun ๐ฌ
How do you post to the challenge. help me I've fallen and can't get up
Day 1 - needs to be cleaned up but had fun!
Hey @shrewd rivet Just click the (+) sign and locate the file, or just drag it into Discord. Thanks for joining!

@glacial path
I might do this challenge if it's Paul
It didn't need a lot of editing, but brightened the eyes and removed some shadows from under the eye
Day 1 - Photo Editing
@glacial path Thanks my man!

Looking at the finished job, I see that I could've done more about the shine.
I think the edited version is too bright, opinions?
๐ These are great.
@short mica it's a waicom board.
thatch work is a good move. circles and perception drawings are s smart move. dude cubes and spheres. when you have a few different things do a background.
different brushes, mix up the patterns. draw a spacey out of the world thang
I'm just catching up on the last challenge. Here's my pattern. I need a lot more practice with this one.
DCC Day 1: Did some minor adjustments and spot healing. Anything else needed? I tried to play with the exposure to match my back drop. Didn't really work out.
Subjects look great. I like the contrast from subjects ( foreground ) to backgroung.
Base (or as close as I'm going to admit to...)
Original edit
Went crazy playing with things...
Initial photo.
Final version. I still need to work on the exposure a little to make it look like she is actually there. But it's a start! Thanks everyone.
I stuck with a pretty basic background and just worked on the cleanup since it was a busy day.
When I went to Select and Mask, I did not get the red quick mask that was shown on Paul's screen. Mine said "Transparency" there. Is there a setting I need to adjust. I made sure I clicked in all the same places.
Hi - Enjoyed photo editing 1 with Paul Trani. Looking forward to the next challenges and would love to be on the live session but work commitments and time zones do not always tie up.
So this may not be the best photo for this challenge, but I could not find one I was looking for, or most images I have of myself are either on the beach or travelling so I have sunglasses on. Learnt a lot though.
Used my pattern from last challenge.
@oblique anvil your pattern is beeeeeaaaauuuutifull, you should try and sell it next Christmas.
Can't wait for the keynote.
Challenge 1, it is far from perfection, but i learned a lot of useful things
Day 1 Challenge - Photo Editing I had a lot of trouble with my wavy hair in this one any tips? Otherwise I'm happy with the result.
This was the original which was cropped and probably a good enough image anyway. The other one has hyper-filter looks ๐
#day_1 ๐
I used 'Rust' Texture + Gradient. Is it too loud?
@glacial delta๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ๐คฏ
@short mica Follow the PS Daily Challenge to learn how to use layers and smart objects. it is a beginners level thang. outside of that, a waicom board is just a fansy version of a pen and paper.
Thank u @glacial path! Looks much better now, though I know it canยดt be great because of the light condition in the original picture. Camera Raw is awesome!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to evil
@fossil kettle yes! I love Camera Raw ๐ - and well done!
the source image is very tricky
I started with a pretty decent photo, so I just had to do some spot cleanup and soften the crow's feet around the eyes. I had trouble using the curves adjustment layer on the dark circles under the eyes. My hair masking skills are still pretty rudimentary.
Day 1 - Hi everyone, here is my before and now comes the after...
And here is my after. Not much can be done ๐คฃ
@blissful wolf Nice job.

PS DCC #1 Photo Editing
Done guys! Hope you like it.
#challenge1_photo_editing
hello all - here is my day2!
Challenge #1 of the Photoshop Daily Creative Challenge.
Day 2 - Great challenge, had fun!
Photoshop Challenge DAY#2 ! So I went with @brittle slate 's suggestions plus did some of my own thing since I love to design patterns. What do you thing about the colors? I still need some practice with the move effects but I loved the Select & Mask Tips
@rigid wolf Ooh, very nice, yeah, that makes such a difference. Looks good!
@vague shuttle Really love that Gone Baby Gone billboard design. The vertical format works really well for that image and I really like what you did with the text, the perspective looks solid. Very cool!
@hexed patrol I really like how unified the gradient is on the statue and the background. I love the sort of Vaporwave feel it has. Nice work and I look forward to seeing your upcoming challenges ๐
@visual bluff Haha, very cool, it's funny how easily manipulation of facial features can make someone creepy. These manipulations look really good, it all looks really seamless. Very nicely done!
@fallow bough Looks good Ken! The brightness and colors look much more alive and the subtle edits are well done. I really like the background change too, hah, definitely gives the image a more exciting feel. Nice job ๐
Challenge #2 of the Photoshop Daily Creative Challenge.
@short mica Really interesting color scheme in this one, and nice work on the masking! I think in terms of contrast it might help to try blurring the background to really let the sharpness of the portrait stand out more, currently the sharp textured background and contrast is overpowering the portrait a bit. Could also help to use a levels adjustment on the portrait to make it pop a bit more contrast wise.
As far as Wacom exercises go I'd really just try to keep using it consistently a bit each day. There's a bit of a learning curve and it may take a few weeks to get used to which is normal. You could try using it for common non art tasks too instead of a mouse which might help get used to a bit faster.
@bold plume Very nice, the masking looks good! The retouches look solid too, nice and subtle. I really like the background too, you could even add a really subtle cooling photo filter over Paul to kind of fit the colors of that scene. Nicely done!
@young karma Nice work! I think using the refine edge brush with the quick selection tool could help get a more natural edge on his hair, and I think a levels adjustment to brighten up the image a bit could help it pop. Nice job!
@pulsar walrus Perspective looks good on that text! I like how you lined it up with the direction of the buildings too. The masking adds some great depth, very nice!
thank @bleak fossil you are very kind
Gave +1 Creative Carma to SamPetersonArt
@coral cloak I think the brightness is looking quite good! Personally Iโd leave it how it is. Though I think the darker the background the lighter the portrait will appear. It might even be nice to give the background a bit of a blur for an out of focus depth of field effect, might make the portrait a stronger focal point by giving the background a bit less contrast.
@fast moth absolutely love the day 2 image lol!! Kill Bill vibes
@bleak fossil thank you for the feedback, I'll give the background blur a try.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to SamPetersonArt
Day 2 - Selecting and masking...
@oblique anvil I really like this! The mock up looks great too. I really like the variety you have in your shape size and value contrast, it gives the whole design a nice balance. This works really well as a pattern when you zoom out, a nice read to it!
@spiral slate Really nice, I like the monochromatic color to this image, it really unifies it nicely and the texture does a good job of breaking up the portrait from the background. I think you could even boost up the brightness of Paul just a touch to make it pop off the background a bit more too. It all looks really nice and cohesive now, but a subtle boost could really make a nice focal point. Well done!
@wispy compass Nice job with the masking in this one, looking good! The background adds a lot of interest too. I feel like this image could use an overall levels adjustment to up the brightness just a little bit. Might make everything pop out a bit better. Nice work!
@bleak fossil appreciate the feedback.... definitely have to get more consistent practice twith the Wacom and brushes, I really appreciate your time and expertise so thanks again!!๐๏ธ

Thanks @bleak fossil ... I really appreciate the feedback. Levels is something I have to work on... Thanks!

Day 2 - Is her "tan" too dark?
@keen granite Was the farmer's tan intentional under her shorts? It looks awesome!
Day 2 - Selecting and Masking
@thorny quarry lol no it was not. I need to mask more of the motion blur, it is actually the white trim of her shorts ๐คฃ
@keen granite honestly it looks great and the hair too! But I see what your talking about now with the white trim. Fooled me!
๐ @thorny quarry Thanks!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to sarah.nunez
@velvet hearth Nicely done ๐ I think a lot of the time good retouching is quite subtle, definitely helps keep it looking natural. Nice work on the masking, though I think the hair on the left side could benefit from the โrefine edge brushโ within the quick selection tool. That can really work wonders to get natural edges with hair. Looks good!
@kindred kernel Nice work Gerard! The background really adds a whole new feeling to the image. I think the โrefine edge toolโ within the quick selection tool could really help with those tricky thin/stray strands of hair to help you get a more natural edge near the top of the head. I use that tool a lot for that fine tuning. Good job ๐
@spiral ginkgo Very nice! I really like the gradient you picked for this. It really suits the soft/peaceful mood of the image, and the colors work well. Nice work with the masking on this!
@bleak fossil Thanks a lot my friend! Love when you guys review designs ๐

#challenge2_selecting
Used another photo, but yeah. xd
This is the first time I've done one of these challenges. I hope I'm posting correctly...LOL
Hey! This is my first time of taking daily creative challenge. Here's my work for day 1
#โchallenges-feedback Day 2. Tried using my own background and moon with a stock rail and woman silhouette. Hope you like it.
Day 1
@willow nebula Nice work Hilde! Curves can be a bit tricky but definitely offer a lot of precision when you need it. Though I use levels 99% of the time, hah. I think you could possibly brighten this image up even a bit more overall with a levels/curves adjustment to make it pop a bit more, though that might just be up to personal opinion. Nice work ๐
@young karma Nice work with the touch ups, they look good and natural! I think a simple levels adjustment layer to brighten it up a bit could really make a big difference too. Well done!
@gaunt swan Very cool Victor! The masking looks great, and I love how you added some colored light bleeding over the edges. It really helps fit the figure in the scene. The overlapping of the background element on the left side really adds some nice depth and ties the images together too. Nicely done!
@keen granite Love the illustrated elements in this Day 1 challenge! Very cool, turned out excellent. Really nice work with the color change and masking too. I feel like perhaps you could even brighten the portrait up a bit more, and maybe even darken down the bottom area a bit more to really draw more contrast and attention into the face. Perhaps with a masked levels adjustment or multiply layer. Maybe something like this? Very nice work!
Excuse the awful GIF quality, here's a side by side version
@bleak fossil Thank you Sam, I will fix it!

If anyone has had issues with clean selections of hair and such I went ahead and made a little video on how I do it which may be useful. I went ahead and shared it in the #๐จresources section.
Let me know if this helps you at all with the issue you mentioned in the stream today @kindred kernel
@forest ivy Thank you for submitting your work ๐ Your adjustments look very natural, especially the removed reflections on his skin ๐ . I like how you kept some of them on the right to still keep some of the specular textures. The mask around his hair is spot on and the colors look 100% believable. The stroke around the picture frame doesn't seem necessary, I think you can remove it ^^
Gave +1 Creative Carma to hattie
@oak mist Oh wow, what a transformation! The shadow would probably be on the floor if we compare it to the actual shadows in the scene (since the light direction is almost parallel to the wall). It is basically impossible to tell that you have removed the original person in the shot, I don't see any seams or artifacts
The lighting of the placed person seems a bit soft though. If you look at the original person with the orange shirt, you can clearly see the super bright light hitting the right side of their body
Since I don't have the original layers, I can only approximate the result. But basically you would have to paint in some of the highlight using the Dodge and Burn technique
@bright jacinth great job! I would only slightly reduce the intensity of the warped text ๐
especially the "Here" seems a bit too... uh... round ๐
@glacial path thank you for the useful comments. It really helps to be better ๐
Gave +1 Creative Carma to evil
@shrewd rivet Haha, now that would certainly be a big leap for the horse ๐ - I like the warm, sunset like colors in the background. I believe this gradient would look even better if you use it vertically (blue at the top, yellow near the horizon). I would also adjust the cropping of your submission. Perhaps remove the blank space at the bottom (or fill it with some text) and leave some more room for the horse at the top and on the right, where it is touching the edge of the frame.
oh and a tiny bit on the left too ๐
@left sand ah, going black and white - always a bold design choice. Looking at your submission, it totally works! I would just slightly boost the shadows to highlight the face more
Day 2 Selecting and having fun.
@shrewd rivet you could also make it part of the ground by adding a shadow below the horse ๐
thanks! I have trouble with the size and end up with white ends or photos going off the page. I was going to change up the gradient but had to do some other stuff and ran out of time. (same excuse for the shadow)
this has been helpful bty as I have learned so far by random YouTube vids. I like that PS has added more help within ps as well.
@shrewd rivet and if you have any specific questions you're always more than welcome to post them to the #โask-a-question ๐
Hey, I'm curious how to implement the challenges into a relevant portfolio (ex: behance). If any one has strong examples please let me know. Thanks.
@frosty parcel if you're looking for inspiration, search for PSDAILYCHALLENGE on Behance and sort by views/appreciations ๐
Well, I kind of just went for the fun with this one. Let me know ways to have even more fun (suggestions/recommendations.)
@glacial path I'm looking not a t final work or inspiration. More of a demonstration of skillsets. For example, before and after. Thanks though!

day 1 edit. I know this is late but does this look ok?
Day 2 challenge. Added in some sky, and played with overlays after masking out background elements.
Day 2 pictures - Women jumping came from photo created by freepik - www.freepik.com</a>
Day 2 Select & Mask
I added motion blur, shadows and transparent text
Day 2 challenge still not really following directions could not find the girl jumping in the air, so i tried this with a photo that i made from adobe cc in my libraries in the scene and added some clouds, Thank You !

Day 2 - Masking and Selecting Challenge. There are five photos composited here. I shot four of them; one is a stock shot (the water droplet). The sky and its reflection are from Ft. Lauderdale; the landscape is from the Adirondacks and the moth and butterfly are from Florida.
Here are the images I used.
Nice work @oak mist
I'm not really managing my layers very well. Is there a reference somewhere that explains how PS "thinks" about layers and layer masks?
Day 2. Doesn't quite feel like the cutout blends into the background very well. ๐ค
PS DCC #2 Selecting & Masking
It was hard for me to cut out the woman's figure, especially the hair part, but I learn some new stuff from this challenge
This is challenge 2 completed. I did cheat a little I already had a PNG file of the Skateboarder, completed for another design I had done.

๐ its not perfect, but its a try
I think the difficult part is how to compose the environment colors and lights, with the object ๐ค
Day 2 - Selecting and Masking
@short mica shorturl.at/cjkJT
hello all, update on challenge1 - i've decided not just to stop at the patch tool, but go full-on pirate theme!
@rigid wolf how does it work? I'm a little tech-capped๐ฅบ
@plain sable This looks really good. I especially like the color in the clouds and on the woman.๐
@dire glacier I love your landscape and dramatic lighting. The tiny woman gets a little lost and seems superfluous. The cars on the road caught my eye distracted me from the beautiful land/sky scape. Very cool image.
@rigid wolf Nice job on the composition and on that motion thing.
@short mica Just click on the link. Doesnยดt it work? Sorry for that.

Day 3 of #โchallenges-feedback. Canยดt help it. I'm a pattern lover. VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION: why donยดt shapes accept gray tonesยฟ?
Day #2 Selecting & Masking challenge
#โchallenges-feedback #3. Hereโs my attempt at it!
Loving that version @stiff jungle !!!
@fossil kettle Shapes accept gray tones. Make a new file and make sure gray is the foreground color and draw a shape. It will be the gray that you have as the foreground color.
@brittle slate this is what I'm talking about
@fossil kettle You might be adding multiple shapes to the same layer. In the Options bar (Top) make sure New Shape is created and it doesn't say "add shape" or something like that. ๐
@fossil kettle When you're creating the shape that is. ๐
@brittle slate so I canยดt create shapes that have gray areas, it's just positive and negative space with shapes? Like a stencil
Thanks @oblique anvil
Gave +1 Creative Carma to KieferCreative
@bold valley Nice work Ralph, the edge on the shirt is looking really solid, but I think it could be cleaned up a bit around the face and head. Did you try using the quick selection/refine edge tool for this, it might gives you cleaner results for that edge and itโs pretty fast too. The gradient background pops the face out nicely, nice job!
@velvet hearth This looks really nice! The blur looks good and it looks like you might have done a color correction to the girl which really seems to fit her in with the colors of the scene. I like how you lined her up with the background shape as well, nicely done!
Day 3 originals
Day 3 Is my text too small? I wanted to crop out her shoulder cut-off. Perhaps I should just go and "make" them... Looking at it here I think I am going to try it in the dark red of the "headband". What do you all think?
Colors and Blend mode and the fun of new techniques. Let me know what you think about this wild child.
๐ Hope you like it guys!
@keen granite So lovely. What's the code for the purple, if you don't mind.
@keen granite the text looks a little fuzzy. Have you tried sharpening or smoothing the text?
@stiff jungle Now I have to go back and add texture. This is great.

I couldn't use the capture created line artwork .. (i don't know if I am naming it correct), something I did maybe was incorrect. I simply have to watch the stream again.
@fossil kettle Check your options bar when drawing a shape. Make sure it's set to new layer.
That is gorgeus @young karma !!!!! Love it! Love the colors and shading on the skull. Adding that splash of blue looks soo good!
I am so happy you like it! Thanks! @brittle slate ๐

@brittle slate @young karma It worked fine for me. Each shape is on its individual layers. Just drag and drop the shapes.
I`m sorry @brittle slate english is not my mother tongue, that's not what I'm asking so surely I'm not making myself explained. Maybe I should mature it a little more and investigate before asking again in this case. Thank you very much for the time you took to explain!!

day 3 ๐
My hand at using blending modes. I couldn't figure out how to change the color of the inner-parts of the flowers, but I used blending modes to make the colors less offensive.
