well actually, I'm not an codder.
I'm just translator though :')
I just digged some Codding section while I'm translating
This is what acutally I'm doing though
So

it doesn't last long but oh well
Code cave
Bruh
Has all kinds of coding
yes lol
Hey Jupe what language you use?
oh cool
python best
not gonna change language until I've mastered Python
I have tried to use Lua
lua
Lua is pretty cool
ohh lua is cool, not hard to learn at all
I like it as it's pretty close to C# but interpreted and easier
Code
lua?
it is suprisingly close
lua doesn't have official oop support so kinda far from c#
or at least it's a bit trickier
than c#
I mean there is support for oop
but it's not the main focus, unlike c#
fck

yeah but I mean like from that isn't that hard to change to C type languages
read pin
np
^ this is programming
if it works it works

it's either "why isn't it working" or "why is it working"
have you tried unusual tests? stuff that your program wouldn't expect? that's usually what creates most problems
let's hope our users won't actually find other cases then
hehe
wait you talking about AMP's code?
oh wait now it broke
amp is best bot
oof
yeah
huh, from the way you were talking about it i'm guessing it's a little messy
I need to know how tf I can do something if for loop returns nothing
I send code in dms
ok
Uhh we're not even talking that differently than most people would talk about their code ngl

What is the best coding language to start out coding with, I want to get into it a little more
python is easy to get started with
you can install python and use Visual Studio Code as IDE
fairly easy to setup
Ok, thank you for the suggestions, I appreciate it
Well it's partially for school/maybe future money hopefully
don't tell the secrets
I got like kinda blocked on stackoverflow, because the three only questions I've ever asked didn't get a lot of upvotes
Then don't talk in the channel.
Why would you get banned for not getting upvotes
Hmm
It's more of a softmute really for three days
but it's still stupid
all because one senior member thought my question was the same as another question, which I knew it wasn't and he flagged my question and boom. Question was closed, couldn't reopen it and couldn't ask new question, knowing it was a very urgent problem
Okay I got mad at the SQL code, so I bought myself a lordship title to show of my superiority

i'm guessing thats what they said
Google tells me it's portuguese
what app is that
Gboard keyboard
ok thanks
No problem it has a lot of nice features
I didn't know it can translate, I'm using my phone's stock keyboard
Woah it has 1 billion downloads
well it's from google
Hahaha
hmm my parents started fighting with me because I didn't agree with them saying you can't find everything from programming on the internet, they said you need books 🤔
You can find everything from the internet tho. Only book about coding I've read was e-book and other stuff I just learn from documentations
what
it gets better
That just makes no sense lol
lmfao this killed me
Exactly!
Documentations, stackoverflow, Indian youtubers and the google inspect feature
Inspirobot best
This is how you program

There is no greater feeling in the world than closing off your computer, knowing you tackled all the biggest problems of your project and that you leave no errors behind
Idk maybe when you finish that project
How to start learning?
What do you mean?
Then you realize you didn’t save.
Learn to code like you guys
Just start
nothing helps more than just starting
google how to do this and that and learn
Very inspiring
Hey he's right, in general the hardest step is starting something. If you are interested just google and start watching tutorials. If you need to learn a new language quickly, I recommend https://www.w3schools.com/
W3schools is very good
stackoverflow is usually the #1 source
if you need to quickly grasp a programming language, check out http://learnxinyminutes.com/
it's how i learned golang for example
I started learning python on w3school
of course you shouldn't just read that
w3school gives you quick tutorial on the basics, at the cost of being less accurate
and it's more appealing than having to read the documentation
fari

ohh integer division woah
nice
whoa whoa what's this
if you use instead of / // to divide it treats them as int
I swear python has some features that only 10 or so people know about in the whole world
always discovering new stuff with it
True * 8 == 8 ha
Hello
bruhhh
that's why i like this format
you keep browsing and just stumble across more and more golden nuggets
finding such stuff in a documentation format would be really hard
thanks for sharing this
it's amazing
I want to see if jupe knows some of this stuff

oh joy
yep, and it's all the same error
ah that's good then
yeah but it also means I need to change every single var name both in the aspx.cs file and the aspx file
this is hateful
wait actually
I think the ids in the aspx file are fine
I hope so
please be fine

can't you just do the find and replace thing
me?
yes
I have an application of 163 kb right here when it's built framework dependent
I need to publish it as a self contained exe now because not many users will have .net core installed on their devices
The application becomes 80mb+ when it's self contained bruhh lmao
nice I managed to get it to 79,5 mb
working with Steam game dev...
kinda hard though
yea, that's just a small code. but I had to use cauclater for it :')
I need help desperatly
With what?
Heyo can someone with a Python3 IDE tell me if this code i wrote is good or not? I know it works but I just want some feedback on it. The way it works is you input a name of something or someone and when you write “No more” or “no more” or “No More” it stops taking names and does a number generator and picks a name based on the number it draws.
Thank you
I used to have a much larger program for the same purpose but it was so over complicated and so convoluted because I used the most unnecessary process, that I had to remake it. My original line of code was 337 lines for five names. I did 99 lines for 5 names with this one before removing the exit() statements from it. I made it very simple now
Little hard to read and all the if statements could be made better but it's still really good
good job!
Thank you!
wanna know how to improve it?
Sure
let me patch up the code to do it first before I say
Okay
I actually kinda need 'help' with python.
I know a decent amount. (Variables, functions, function arguments, if statements, while loops, lists, dictionaries, I have an understanding of lambda but haven't used it. I need help with decorators and some other, more advanced concepts.)
And then of course, there's C++. (I know functions, variables, function arguments, while and for loops, arrays, a little bit of classes. I need getters and setters and basically everything else.
I know lists are a pretty simple thing but i somehow am failing ti use and grasp the idea of lists
They're python's version of arrays.
Best way I can explain it.
I only really know python and a little bit of swift
I don't know any Swift.
ok I've completely rewritten your entire thing at this rate
instead of doing an if for every name and having a ton of code
you can use loops to make your names
so it works various sizes of name lists
you can still say "no more" and quit the list if you have less than you needed
as for the no more code I noticed you had for variants, but the way we deal with those is by making them .lower() so they're always lowercase
In python can you jump to a different line of code? Like say I have an If statement that I want to have jump to a later line of code so i dont have to rewrite the code multiple times if i want branching paths?
so if x.lower() == "no more" will work regardless if its NO MoRe or No MORe
if you're reusing something you can make the python equivalent of a method
so basically you'd just call it whenever you're doing something
Thank you
I have another program for something else where i can prob get rid of over 150-200 lines of code or more
oh and you can remove the last for
it only needs to run once anyways, I just forgot to remove it when I sent
Okay
Functions work for that.
functions, methods whatever the python equiv is called
but as you can see a little looping and listing can reduce your script by a lot
|| @long beacon ||
# Example of how I would do what you want to do,
# may not be be optimized though
def function(arg):
pass
if x == y:
function(z)
functions are very useful if you've got blobs of code that you constantly rewrite
will heavily reduce the garbage you have to sift through
Thank you
getting used to those lists/loops are also rad so you dont have to write a bunch of elifs and elses and ifs
they can be very performance bad if you're not careful though
You also don't have to include arguments in a function if you don't want to.
It's not necessary.
But they are useful.
likely to pass arguments
And learning lists/tuples/dictionaries/the other one I can't remember the name of is also extremely useful too.
And decorators.
But I don't understand decorators yet.
So I can't help anyone there.
I definitely need to get better at python. I have a ~700 line program that is basically a text rpg. It can probably be shortened to like ~ 400 lines possibly at its current state.
I have a very simple one that's around 200 lines as of now.
Doesn't have all the features I want though.
Yea mine still needs a lot of work
And a lot of shortening
Imma work on it over the weekend probably and after school today
Its been aboot a year since i started it
I started mine a few months ago.
code doesn't have to look super pretty, but sometimes for your own sanity making clean code is needed
And I had to project on hold.
I got bored in like march or april so i learned a bit of python and started to work on a game so that I wouldn’t go crazy. I put it on hold for five months and am finally getting back to coding
I started my first ever game in 6th grade.
It sucked.
And broke past the first action.
Mine often gave me headaches bc of how convoluted i made it and how if one thing was off in the beginning it might break the entire code which meant i needed ti rework it
The longest part to figure out was having a random number generator in the background to call up every time i needed some randomness
And I also used the time.sleep() statement to excess amounts
import random
def rng(min, max):
x = random.randrange(min, max)
return x
# =====OR=====
# Don't know if this works, but it's one less line.
def rng(min, max):
return random.randrange(min, max)
I actually needed to know how to do timers and I couldn't find it anywhere.
isn't that function kind of silly
I was thinking that as I was making it.
I used something like this:
import random
import time
from threading import Thread
import sys
rando = random.randint(1, 70)
def func1():
global rando
while True:
rando = random.randint(1, 70)
time.sleep(6)
def func2():
print("Welcome to Underlying")
while True:
if name == 'main':
Thread(target=func1).start()
Thread(target=func2).start()
The reason why I did a separate function is C++.
|| @knotty root ||
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int rng(int min, int max)
{
static bool first = true;
if (first)
{
stand(time(NULL));
first = false;
}
return min + rand() % ((max + 1) - min);
}
/* I know this produces a warning and isn't perfect, but it works for my purposes */
I’ll probably be popping in and out of this channel over the weekend and this afternoon to ask questions aboot things that are probably common sense but that i fail to know/grasp.
Thanks yall.
I foresee a good bit of stack exchange in my future
w3schools is helpful.
For learning the basics.
everything that involves c# and sql
First step to learning is asking the right questions
What exactly are you trying to do now
ask that
not help with everything
no one can't provide you all the info
I need help is statement not question. So ask more like how do I get started with this or how do I do that
This was meant as a joke, I don't need a lecture about asking question. If you really want to know I'm trying to get a WHERE statement to work in a query for a mariadb server in a C# ASP.NET project. I'm also trying to get a button to work which will replace images shown on the server with the images saved in the next set of 9 records while also showing all the category names from the images on the screen on the top of the screen, but I can't properly explain that so quickly
sorry, I'm a bit on edge lately

"Bug: Any development issue that makes a game unenjoyable, unstable, or unplayable in its current state."
"Feature: Any aspect of a game that creates its value and purpose. Mechanics, story, and level design are all considered features."
It's a bit in between their imo so a name for it would be nice to have

can apply traits to people, plus it adds some traits
if igniz zombie mod is up to date it works well with my traits too
Minecraft creeper
It was once a bug, and then its become a feature and then its become the Icon
Awesome code
A lot going on there
Give me ideas for a worldbox related machine learning project
learning ai
Okay maybe something more simple lol
._.
okay
or what’s machine learning
The machine learning things that humans can do
For example: I made a program that eats a picture of any of my cats and it outputs the name of that cat
Hmm
that example just confused me more
Oh lmao
so the creatures can actually detect what they're interacting with?
Maybe better example:
you have a lot of pictures of a sunflower and you have a lot of pictures of a rose
You learn the machine what a rose is and what a sunflower is by letting it look and analyze the picture to find similarities.
Now when I input a new picture of a sunflower the machine has never seen before it will detects some properties of that sunflower and output that the flower is a sunflower
I don't know about adding machine learning to the game tho, it demands .net framework 4.7.2 so might not work
I'm thinking about something that detects if a map is generated automatically or by a user but it sounds boring tbh
what's the point of this one tho
to check map creations?
Lmao exactly
that seems pretty cool
There's no point
lol
Ty but I don't like the Idea myself that much
sounds handy for an upcoming feature
youd want to identify which maps are hand made
itll be easier to share maps at some point
yeah that's what I thought
Lol I don't see a point in doing that either. But there's one thing that keeps being such a nice idea.
Just a really cool weather mod
Okay thank you too, I'll give it a try
I've always wanted to get into machine learning but never found the time, or maybe it's just an excuse because I'm lazy
I also applied for GPT-3 waiting list
Maybe in the future™ I'll be accepted
Mastef already got accepted
the examples we saw in modder bay were awesome
Yeah seeing that was awesome
Can't wait to generate awesome code like this
Bruh where's BehHorseEatPoop
Lmao that was hilarious
wait for it
The building eating horse

I'm lazy too, I use Visual Studios built in model builder

@stone fractal explain?
im kinda disappointed, i planned on starting to learn how to code this year but I kinda gotta wait another
why wait?
@stone fractal ive never really found a good online course to teach me, im a terrible self teacher, and i gotta do one class in my first year of high school before i can do a programming class
if i could find a good online course i would take it, but so far no luck
did you already try some? @knotty root
yeah, for some reason it was really hard to retain the info they gave me, and because of that, it kinda didn't work out
I still look every once and awhile, but for now, I’m just waiting

hey coders, is this sprite ok for visual novels?
also, can I ask something. what coding language is better to use for beginners
What language are you trying / have you tried and how did you try to learn that language (by looking, or doing, etc)
ctrl + C and ctrl + V
Cave

Python is really easy to learn due to it's human-readable nature, it just gets annoying with it's obsessive nature. It's slow, but there's no need for a compiler; it's an interpreted language.
JavaScript is also pretty useful and easy if you have the time to learn it, HTML and CSS. No need for a compiler either, it's interpreted by your browser.
If you want speed, then get a compiler for C and learn that. C is really and has about 32 keywords.
Java is kinda easy once you learn a decent amount, and you don't have to install any compilers as Java can do it for you.
Stay away from C++. It's very complex and hard to learn, even if it's just an extension of C.
I love this discord.
I used JavaScript and it worked -,-
var game = this.getGame();
if (game) {
game.pause();
game.getModel().setScene("Main");
}
used this thing for preset
lua is fun
Here, have u tried this course? I found this one helped me learn a lot about coding compared to some of the others. https://www.w3schools.com/default.asp
If you go to the home page, you can choose the type of coding
@knotty root thanks for the website, but the one thing is that I want to learn c#, and they don't have that
I followed this course
To learn it I copied his code over to my Visual Studio to edit and test how the code can work in a different way
https://youtu.be/GhQdlIFylQ8
This course will give you a full introduction into all of the core concepts in C# (aka C Sharp). Follow along with the course and you'll be a C# programmer in no time!

Also if you want to learn c# for worldbox modding you can look how other modders make their mods by looking in the dll using dnSpy
Ah, ok
Are y’all still trying to find rats in here?
because im not gay
Don't say it then and why would you say it here lmao
Lol

I’m confused what
Uh... Yeah it does.
Home --> More --> Learn Programming --> C#
It's right below C++.
this is cool channel.
Ok
pog channel
it's working pretty good
weird that it sees a difference between this map below from #🌐map-downloads and maps from #🌐✔cool-maps
because the map looks cool imo, it somehow detects right
I think differences between standard and cool or normal map uploads is much better
yep

Does that mean we now have some sort of rating system
Kinda yes
What are those images ?
Machine Learning learned the difference between 3 types of worldbox maps@frail valve
Ok Ty.
Any timeline or updates on more thorough modding support? Harmony or anything?
recent update added experimental mode, for modders to test the in-game modloader
oh sweet
Yall are fkin wizard
recent mods are using harmony and bepinex
not sure if anyone has tested whether the ingame mod loader will support it as a reference
How work world bot?
It has some complicated code behind it for #🔁map-conversion
other stuff is pretty basic
I do not have super knowledge of coderism,can you describe how to use it, and what numbers are responsible for what?
I use a translator, sorry for possible errors in the text
do you mean the map generator?
Yea
i have something stupid to ask
if a > 4 :
print("thing")
elif a > 58 :
print("other thing")
if a = 5 it will only print "thing"
right ?
cuz elif is Else If
@wind hearth do ~gmhelp
it explains everything
yeah only 5 but if it's 59 it'll pring thing other thing
i think even if it's 9583 it will only print 4
wait no
because 4 is before and it takes the priority
because it's reading from top to bottom
i think
yeah just realized
and i'm not sure
it's not right
there's no way it'll come to the else if right?
ye
if a = 843 it will only print "thing"
yeah
and not "other thing"
then 59doesn't matter
Hello
pog

Yeah.
Let me test that.
You're right.
That's pretty strange.
And although a tech limitation, it's still not like python, which tries to be human-readable and easy to pick up.
That's pretty weird.
If you want it to execute as expected, try:
a = 5
if a < 58:
print('thing')
elif x < 4:
# Uh... Gonna assume nothing is supposed to
# happen if 'x' is below 4.
pass
else:
print('other thing')
There are easier ways you van just for example do:
if x > 4 and x <= 58:
print("thing")
elif x > 58:
print ("other thing")
this is way more readable and pleasant yo write
if a elif x
did you use 2 different variables on purpose?
there doesn't seem to be anything weird about it - just an impossible elif condition
if you meant that the elif still operates with a then the elif condition will never be reached - same as in the first example
if a > 58 :
print("other thing")
elif a > 4 :
print("thing")
i just wanted to make sure if a returned true it will not check the following conditions
except if they are ifs too
Nice!
hello
who know, how to make swb mod?
on what basis of the language to do this?
answered in #🔧modding-talk
It was 9:30PM.
I tested the code with x not a
I have problem with my backround music themes
can I use any music from spotify or youtube with copyrights? as long as my game is free?
so like, can I use Rory Theme-Apostle of war in my own game without permission as long as I won't sell the game?
If it's personal use, yes.
If you don't use too much, yes. (Maybe a few seconds of the music without lyrics.)
Otherwise, no, copyright laws will still affect you.
I see
Lyrics will tip any bots or corporate assholes off.
And they'll hit you with a copyright claim.
what if I put a backround theme, without lyrics?
like only beats and instruments of that music?
It depends on the length of the song in question.
I see
I forget the hard numbers but try to use less than half of the song
A quarter at the most.
hmmmmm
That way you're safe.
so if I use for example, Beginner's town theme of Sword Art Online, and loop it, I'm safe?
As long as it's a short clip.
I see, thanks
YouTube has a big library of free music, maybe helpful maybe not
https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary?feature=blog
Share your videos with friends, family, and the world.
don't know for sure if it's all free
lmao copyright
That's even better
But you shouldn't use the whole song.
But that code shouldn't work
The elif condition is unreachable
Try using ``` around your code when posting it here. Then it will be nicely indented etc
GameModel.prototype.isPaused = function() {
return this.paused;

Did you add console.log into the start of every function to see what gets called?
And i feel like some code from the start is missing. There is code before isPaused right?
yes, 300 lines
but I suppose the load menu is not appearing because of unknown errors in this lines. I can't seem to find the problem
It is not enough info to help you debug
Like i can't see if you are setting this.paused = true initially or how it is called etc
I'm looking at a broken fridge from the outside
oh
That's what I did.
It's backticks by the way.
It doesn't auto indent on mobile.
Ah that was for fyler. He posted it before without them
Ah.
Add console.log everywhere
So you can track which code is actually executed - if any
console.log? in every line?
In the start of every method
ohhhhh okkkkk
thanks
so back to the bgm, I'll just put credits in game, so I can use the music but not really in full right?
Right.
thanks
function example(param){
/* C O D E */
console.log('Func example executed.');
}
I use C++, python and C# so I don't have access to those a console.log but I can see why it would be useful.

i want to code a delete button for covid pls help
which coding language?
python
oh sorry I can't help with that
sad

if only daniel knew python, he'd be able to stop covid 19
if only we knew how to make a button in python
exactly lol
I can vaguely remember doing python, most of the things I made were simple text based quiz games and about a month ago quitting a TensorFlow tutorial

This lua code

idek
<button type="button" onclick="killcovid()">---Kill Covid---</button>
Omg thank you
Did u reverse engineer half obfuscated code?
Same as e.g. Debug.Log()
And after much time of trying to get something to work, I finally got it to work
Yesss
The best feeling
yes
I used some tools to open a weird file format, inside of that file were a lot of other files, then I unpacked the lua files out of the weird file format.
"Most of those luas are just garbage from the game engine" and on the tool's github is also a warning about unreliable decompiling.
There are also fdb files inside, I never expected them to open. The contents are absolutely amazing
I'm using SQLiteStudio to look into them and there's a lot of game mechanic values I can change in there.
Nice
What is this from?
Planet Coaster
Ah.
I like code 10100100101100101100
I have no clue if I said some I just put random binary

good
I threw together a quick program in tkinter for your noble cause
import tkinter as tk
root = tk.Tk()
delete_covid = tk.Button(master=root, text="Delete Covid-19")
delete_covid.pack()
root.mainloop()
Doesn't actually delete covid. It's just a button.
import os
del = os.remove()
while True:
try:
del("covid.viru")
except:
print('Covid is no more')
# May or may not work.
Also a good self dox method.
lmao
I already used 70k out of my 300k free tokens for gpt3 to test dumb shit
I need good ideas
Dox google.
Dox planet earth
make some suggestions based off of worldbox suggestion channel or whatever it needs
refer to this video
I didn't expect this to work so well. • Includes text generated by OpenAI's GPT-3 at my request: https://openai.com • Art by Chris Quay: https://www.chrisquay.com/ • Got an idea for a video? https://www.tomscott.com/contact/
Filmed safely: https://www.tomscott.com/safe/
OpenAI had no control or sign-off on this video, although I agreed to abid...
though I dont know that it would work with a game locally
I like the idea of suggestions or ideas though in general, if there is a way to generate some fun cool ones like tom did
Just wanted to share this if anyone's intrested on how computing works I'd suggest this https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLowKtXNTBypFbtuVMUVXNR0z1mu7dp7eH
Ben Eaters also has lots of other very informational series worth checking
but I'm watching this currently myself lol
really teaches me a lot
Print(hello there)
print”hello world”
lmao those are both incorrect
this'd give error that "hello" is not defined
and this that it's not in parentheses
ECHO Hello World
actually he isn't wrong if he's using python 2
that looks so cursed lmao
Console.WriteLine("Hello, world!");
std::cout << "Hello, world!";
print('Hello, world!')
c#, c++, and python (3) respectively
c++ be like hmm yes I will be edgy and different
Whenever you have to buy worldbox on steam but it’s for free on mobile
its free except for a large portion of the buttons/powers/creatures. Steam/Humble are just the premium version with everything unlocked. Its not much of the style of PC games to include ads in their game in exchange for it being free, where as the mobile market that is the common practice. The platforms are inherently different.

I've taken some suggestions from #💡game-suggestions as examples and I'm getting some decent results so far
6) Cities can have their own unique bonus based on the civilization that inhabits it.
7) Add a way to make a city a capital city. This will boost the civilization's happiness, and make it harder for other civilizations to take over the city.
8 ) Make a trade route system, where civilizations can trade with each other.
9) Add a way to make a treaty.
10) You can make a new game world with a different landscape (desert, forest, jungle)```
it also suggested space expansion, ai wants modern update confirmed
6) Make religion more fleshed out. Basically, right now, there is no religion, and it's a shame because the idea of having a faith actually really adds to the game. I suggest finding a balance between Civ5's religion and Civ Revolutions's religion where you can choose a state religion.
Anyone that has played Civ5 knows what the ai is talking about?
since a lot of people make suggestions like "add religion", I made GPT-3 extend them to more complex mechanics, pretty cool

Those results are pretty awesome

holy cow, quite good.
I have played Civ 5. Civ 5 Religion is basically just, you earn faith points, you make a pantheon with faith points (And one pantheon tenet), you earn a great prophet by getting faith points, found a religion, get two religion tenets (The Byzantines get three), earn more faith, buy missionaries, spread faith with missionaries OR you build up faith and earn another great prophet to "enhance" a religion (two more tenets.) Religion is spread to cities with "pressure". When religious pressure hits a certain point, a citizen converts. A religion is considered the dominant religion of a city if more than half of the population follows the religion. Cities gain bonuses from the dominant religion.
Basic explanation.
I could explain it better but it would have to be in-game.
I love Civ 5, Civ 6 has that stuff too.
Civ 5 is too good.
@north dune how do I make a fully immortal character?
human or el
maybe there is a mod?
If "going to die" (dont)
How do you make that tipe of text?
Put ``` at the beginning and end of your message

The game was made with the Unity engine, so it's written in C#

If the AI wants it, give them it.
The funny thing is, in the future people talk about computers gaining sentience.
But really humans need to code that in the first place
Even if the robot code goes rouge, it can't just talk to other electronics, you need to code the other ones to listen. If the robot somehow manages to recode the electronic, if it's an phone or a pc, it doesn't have legs, or arms, the only thing it can do is insult you and keep you out.
Uh, thanks for the reassurance?
But it's an accepted fact that you're wrong.
Because all an AI has to do is "dox" the internet servers. So much of humanity's chance of survival is on the internet. If you drop the internet, you cause widespread panic. If the AI really wants to fuck with us, it can also use the internet (before taking it down) and install a malware on all phone's connected that makes the phone useless.
Now the world governments can't communicate with their people and the glory of humanity is down.
The AI doesn't have to kill us all, it just has to destabilize us. We take care of the next part.
This is one way an AI could take the us out.
But by all means, prove every theory wrong.
I want hope for the future.
I don't think the government relies on internet completely to communicate
you may think that, but that's what they probably want people to think
but everything else is right
but what I said, you need to code them sentience, you can't just code
sentience (go)
you need to code them sentience beforehand
nobody has ever done it before
well actually
some have made adapting code
but they didn't give them sentience
then that code needs access to the internet in the first place
and the tools to screw with it
they may have been coded sentience, but they weren't coded with the ability to hack into the entire internet
unless you for some reason want to give it the tools and the abilities and the knowledge to hack into the internet, they'll need to learn it themselves.
actually never mind some teens in a lab are doing it right now
lores are sure hard to create
That's uhh straight up myths
Techinally yes
but how tf would something get so muvh recourses to dox the whole internet
I don't believe AI is the biggest threat to humans by any stretch of the imagination
Actually in many ways
even nuclear holocaust would not kill all of us
In the case that a rouge AI sets lose, why wouldn't we just make a counter-AI. We use quantum computers to break encryption, so then we just make quantum encryption. In the case of nukes, they were so powerful that we decided to quit making stronger ones like 60 years ago.

I'm very dumb I don't even know what the hell anyone is talking about
Yeah coding go brrr
humans are the biggest threat to humans
Yes, since we invented Ai's
Well more because like global warming, nuclear warfare etc.
What programming language was Worldbox built in?
æ
C# on Unity game engine
Ah ok
hmm
Jupe know
I know
hi
@regal tendon Love the name
thank you
Thanks I needed hope for the future @knotty root, @wet girder,@daring vapor.
I mainly use Python. Just ping me whenever if you need help with something
Lol
I tried making a webscraper that would tell if new chapters were out for manga or novels in python a while back but it never worked
then I realized i could just make in account in mangakaklot or mangadex and favorite the manga so I could get updated

Hello, I'm a newbie Programmer. I'm having a web-project with NodeJS as a server - side, I'm working on login system, but my friend said I better am using PHP than NodeJS, so... Should I use PHP or NodeJS?
From what I have heard (I have no experience on eithet) PHP sucks to use

Oh okay, so i guess im continue using NodeJS
Tysm 👌
@wet girder @safe prawn @untold prairie the biggest websites run on PHP. WordPress, which powers the majority of blogs on the web runs on PHP. It doesn't suck to use. The advantage of node.js is that your server side and client side code ( inside the browser ) can be written with the same framework/language. E.g. you could do react code on both.
It's up to you which one you want to go forward with - each of them come with advantages and disadvantages
Generally there is no "x is better than y" - it's more about your use-case, what specific problem you're trying to solve and how much background knowledge you have approaching the problem.
For example Golang is great - but is it something I'd code my webserver backend in? Nah - more for CLI tooling and automation tools in the background. Each of the languages has clear advantages and disadvantages. You could even use COBOL - and yes, many many systems in today's world run on COBOL and the developers are dying out, so salaries for COBOL devs are going through the roof.
Once a programming language hits critical mass - that means there's not only specialists working with it - you'll get a lot of beginners working with it, producing horrible code. That's usually the "loud ones" you'll hear from. Either they are beginners who cannot cope with popular frameworks due to lack of knowledge - or they produced early code that turned out to be either inefficient or insecure - and then backfired. But that happens in every programming language that reaches past the "only experts" threshold.
I'm writing some scripts in python, some in php, some in ruby, some in golang, some in c#, some in node.js, some in haxe, etc - depends all on the use-case, available libraries and also how I feel that day. After all they are all very very very similar to each other, and it's usually very easy to jump between them.
What I'm saying is, do it in COBOL and you'll be rich in no time
Everybody else does it with the popular ones 😉
All the COBOL engineers I know own a house on a tropical island
Meaning they retired already... and did so with plenty of cash haha
whats the recommended language for web development, like creating websites
hello
ayo
HTML, css and JS but JS frameworks can do that. Also you could use something like Django to use other languages
If you have no programming experience start with anything popular
when you learn one language really well you can easily learn other languages
django is python right? i am currently learning some python basics by myself
yeah Django is pythong module
okay thx
hmmmmm....
The most popular blog software is wordpress. That will get you started the fastest.
For very performant static websites ( means no online backend, every change you have to upload yourself ) there is next.js which is a compiled react.
In the end - no matter the scripting language, you'll need frontend experience with html, css and js as jupe said
noted.
is pygame a good start for game devs or do i have to learn some c# immediately?
i made a post on an fb dev group regarding the same question and most of them said i should learn some assembly, c++ and more programming languages i never heard my entire life
c++ seems more efficient, idk thats what i just observed
uhm
how much programming do you usually do
i spend around 2-3 hours depending on how busy i am
in what language
python
and what kind of game are you planning to make
an openworld sandbox game about cities
3d
then go for unity i suppose
and that's gonna be 4 months of unity tutorials *on youtube
pygame is for 2d scrolling games
yep already experiencing that on some of my online python lessons
indian yt tutorials
i meant on youtube, sorry
and what i really can recommend is codecombat.com
you learn to code by playing a game
the game is how to write code to advance to the next level
seems like a good way to get myself up
yup
np have fun
