Appdata may be hidden so make sure to disable hiding files

After going into saves, you want to make a new folder like save1 or save3, and drag the wbox into it

Load up that game and load the save, even if there's no image

Map should load soon after

I didn't like the river and mountain style, furthermore i prefer biomes being mixed up. Lastly it doesn't match to my playing type. But, I appreciate the effort you put and I am sure other people have different opinion, I just put my opinion onto this.

I suggest rivers start from hills so it can be a bit more realistic.

You're free to set up the kingdoms as you want

Also, if you want to create Ba Sing Se in the map, make sure to make one-tile wide gaps in each of Ba Sing Se's walls so that the village you place in it can actually grow out (mountain ranges and hills block off territorial expansion). Also make one-tile bridges across the rivers since rivers block off expansion as well.

@agile elm Here are some important things to keep in mind to ensure realistic looking maps:

1. Rivers should always be 1-2 pixels wide in any world map. Rivers normally originate from mountains or any other highland or densely forested area with multiple sources and tributaries, all of which keep converging until only a single river reaches the sea. Realistic looking river systems therefore almost always looks like a tree with multiple branches.
2. Mountain ranges and island chains almost always form on tectonic plate boundaries. It would thus be helpful to make a rough outline of your map with imaginary tectonic plates on it, then use it as a guide to where you'll place your mountain ranges and island chains/archipelagos.

3. Biomes are dictated by their latitude, locations of mountain ranges, and any nearby major bodies of water. Bands of jungles normally form at the equator. Bands of deserts and other dry biomes like savannas normally form in the latitudes both above and below the equator, so you'll always have two desert bands in a world, one in the north and one in the south (and bands of savannas in the transition areas between the desert and greener biomes). Steppes (which would be represented by just plain grassland) form deep in continental interiors where little moisture is able to reach. Temperate forests (represented by regular forests in the game) form beyond the desert bands. Taigas form in bands beyond the temperate forests (thus placing them between the temperate forest bands and the polar regions) and can be represented in-game by frozen forest soil. Polar regions obviously in the furthest north and south, and can be simulated with the various frozen tiles available in-game (ideally those that do not allow any plants to grow on them, like frozen desert and frozen hills and mountains). Also, due to the Coriolis effect, any mountain ranges in the equator band (the tropical zone) will block off moisture coming from the east, which means drier biomes will appear on the west side of the mountain range. The reverse is true for the temperate zones beyond the tropical zone, with moisture coming from the west being blocked off by mountain ranges, leading to drier biomes on the eastern side of the mountain range.
4. Any world that only has a single supercontinent in it will have a very dry interior, as was the case for Pangaea.
5. Make use of the different water tiles to simulate continental shelves and other underwater structures like ocean trenches.

Obviously there are far more things to factor in than these, but these five major things are the ones you keep in mind the most when trying to make a realistic map.

How do I change a map from map.json to map.wbox

load the map in game and save it

either over itself or somewhere else

it'll save a wbox file

the game obviously supports loading all of the old maps, and it only saves in the newest format. So yes quite easy.
