We've been hard at work on a major update for WorldBox, and it's been going well. The update includes 5-6 new mechanics, as well as improvements to existing ones that we think you'll love. We know it's been a while since our last update, but we think this one will be worth the wait.

In addition to the new mechanics, we've also made several behind-the-scenes optimizations and improvements to the code architecture. These will help us make more stable and smooth updates in the future.

Today it's the Steam update - mobile updates are in the works

Make sure to disable any mods you had for 0.14.x as they will crash with 0.21.x due to too many changes. A lot of thanks for the modders on working on their mods during our beta - so they should have updated mods available shortly.

If you like a mod that's only compatible with 0.14.x and want to keep playing with it - there's now a public 0.14 branch on Steam, on which you can always turn back time and play the older version.

However many mods should be updated relatively quickly, as our dear modders have been upgrading their mods in the past few weeks to be ready for the release.

@everyone There have been a few updates out for mobile in the past few days. Please make sure to update up to 0.22.13, which was released just now for iOS and Android

Overall it's a bigger engine update and should give you a more performant WorldBox! Also Android users worlds should auto backup now between installs. So if you reinstall WorldBox on the same device ||maybe|| your worlds will come back with it.

Also we have added improvements to ad servings as a few countries had issues with seeing ads. So hopefully everyone without premium should be able to enjoy ads now to unlock powers.

Future of WorldBox 🚣‍♂️

First of all thank you all for your support and patience! I know that this update takes a lot of time and it’s more than usual. It’s one of the reasons why boats haven’t been added earlier.
Plus there was some none-game dev stuff that was on the way.

After the boat update we plan more smaller content updates, which we hope to release faster.

In other news, for the past month I’ve been in talks with another programmer who will be joining the team soon.

Steam release is planned for 2021 for which we are preparing a Trailer video.

And this weekend Hugo will be hosting an art-stream, where he will be drawing docks in real time. More about it will be announced later in twitter/discord/reddit, if you are interested to join!

Hey @everyone - the latest hotfix 0.7.1 is now out on all platforms!

With the 0.7.0 Crabs and sorcery update we have introduced a big rewrite that caused some issues on certain devices. For this reason we have now released a hotfix with many fixes!

We also have added fixes to the newly added arabic language ( e.g. the tutorial being unreadable ) as well as hebrew and others. The 2 new big additions in languages are the hindi language ( complete ) and georgian ( incomplete ).

These languages were translated by our great community translators - who are also on the worldbox discord. Thank you so much for all your hard work that you put into the game! ❤️

The update should be already available on PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices!

Hello everyone! Arrived with some grand (and hopefully great) News!

As of Today we are going to work on a project regarding the language rooms, an expansion without making it to messy for the public. (Rip the staff tho)
So what are we planning?

The project will consist of a language selector, It will allow you to select more languages if you speak more languages. Whenever you selected a language or more, the channels of those languages will open up. Each language will have their own General room (which they already have) their own Worldbox chat, their own Voice channel and even their own translated rules channel.

What if you pick no role for a language at all? No worries! You will still see every channel (Like #🌎general and #🌋worldbox-chat) except for the channels exclusive to a language, You can always select a language though.

Hey @everyone - the newest WorldBox patch called Worms in Pipinos ( 0.7.2 / 0.7.3 ) is finally out!

The highlights of this patch are boats becoming a little bit smarter - they will now move away when under attack and when idle. They will also return back to docks for needed repairs! 🛠️

Then we have 🪱 worms - they'll mangle the earth behind them now more chaotically - are not able to dig through mountains any more ( you can trap them! ), and will go into 4 more directions! Also some of them will have slightly different preferences in how much they dig.

Crabs and crabzilla are finally friends again, skin burns will be healed by divine light - some invisible units should be visible now again as well.

Other changes are the many many language changes, the new 🇵🇭 Tagalog language and 🇬🇪 Georgian being now fully translated! Well done to our voluntary translators crew! A big kudos again to the amazing translators and beta testers here in the discord!

The update should be already available on 🖥️ PC, 💻 Mac, 🍏 iOS and 🤖 Android devices!

I have came with a grand announcement.

The language project has finally been finished and today it be the grand opening!
The new Language rooms feature their own general (which they had since the beginning ofc!) their own Worldbox chat, their own rules channel, and their very own Voice channels. All of them translated in their own language, even the channels itself!

As we do not wanna kill off the entire non-English communities we have thought of a transition period.
What does this mean? Right now all the Non-English General chatrooms (such as #🇷🇺-русский-чат or #🇫🇷-chat-français as examples) are all still visible without any role. This will be the case for a week, after that week you will only be able to access those rooms just like all the new rooms through selecting a role in the #817762451293470730, This gives everyone enough time to adjust to this grand Server update.

How do I get a role to access the new Non-English channels? You go to the #817762451293470730 and pick your language(s) there, after picking your language you will be granted a role that grants you access to the channels of that role. Yes, you can pick several if you speak more then 1 language!! 🙂

Hey @everyone - the newest WorldBox patch called Civilization Update ( 0.8.0 ) is finally out for PC and Mac! In this update we have over 80 improvements!

The highlights of this patch are definitely the improved building and ruin sprites! 🏚️ Also villages will now change their roof colors based on which kingdom they belong to!

Then the other big feature in this patch is the 👁️ spectator mode! You can now follow any of your units from the inspection menu. The game will keep following them until they die - and then it'll jump to their assassin. Great for videos, too!

there are now new item resources like 🫐 berries, 🍞 bread, 🍺 ale, 🐟 fish, 🥩 meat, 🍣 sushi, burgers and many more! And every unit will have their favorite food, which fills them up faster! Units have now also moods, like being happy when eating their favorite burgers, etc.

Mini map will show you now the location of your kings and 🎏 squad leaders! You can also enable a live history log that will bring you to the latest events!

Our beloved Crabzilla has also received new and improver LAZORS. Pew. Pew.

The update should be already available on 🖥️ PC, 💻 Mac today. It should be rolled out for 🍏 iOS and 🤖 Android devices in the next 1-2 days!

A big change to ore resources like gold, silver and stones - they are infinite now!

Hoi @everyone ! The newest WorldBox patch called "Totally Accurate Bridge Simulator" ( 0.8.2 ) is finally out for Windows, Mac and Linux! In this update we have around 50 improvements and fixes!

Now before you ask, yes, trading boats will be trading more again, wee. Also they should repair in the docks properly.

New icons! Many powers and UI options have now newer icon versions. Enjoy!

Units will consume now the food that is most available in the city, before emptying other supplies

New name generators for a few selected units!

☁️ New cloudy clouds. Woosh

We added a few fixes to save files - like fixing random disappearing buildings, or units loading without full hp. Also units from old save files won't be depressed anymore due to a lack of favorite foods.

🎏 Korean, Japanese, Arabic, Hindi and Thai languages have now new fonts! Also many other fixes with specific languages, like hindi not working properly with elven names.

🔧 As you know we released 0.8.0 12-14 days ago, so in the past 2 weeks we worked on a LOT of smaller and bigger fixes that needed to be done after the many updates from the past months. And this is the update where they happen.

The update is out now for Windows, 🍏 MacOS and Linux! Mobile versions coming soon!

Hoi @everyone ! The newest WorldBox patch called "Because we May" ( 0.8.3 ) is finally out for Windows, Mac and Linux! In this update we have a few fixes and improvements!

☁️ Clouds will now disappear when you zoom in
Infinity coins will also get to the people at home watching worldflix
Villages with only a dock left, will act less weird
When your favorite baby grows up, we won't show a "deceased" message any more
Easier to read fonts with added shadows!
Increased housing for dwarves
🖌️ Nicer colors for kingdoms
Better dock placement that's closer to the village

Plague doctors have arrived! They will help you against nasty tumors and infections
Druids! They will leave a trail of beautiful flowers behind them, and grow trees around them
Tumor monsters!
🪓 Units will now use tools that are specific for their jobs, and they will also hold items they work on
🌩️ Rain clouds will now produce lightnings from time to time
☕ Coffee - it's a power! A modern power!
Many new world laws! You can now make lava eternal, or add random disasters!
📱 Non-premium mobile players will be able to unlock now save slots and the hourglass with rewarded ads!

Hi @everyone , we have another quick fix update. This time it's 0.9.2 and it fixes reward ads causing crashes when you try to unlock save slots or the ⌛ hourglass.

Other tiny fixes are Zombies being allowed to keep their melee weapons after transforming. 🧙‍♂️ White mages will now fight back bandits. And some random events are now even more random! Also the force effect is now more centered.

Hi again, @everyone ! Update 0.9.3 will be now rolling out to all devices! It's already out for PC/Mac/Linux. Coming up next will be Android and iOS.

Changes to ads
In this update we tweaked a lot on how the current ads work for non-premium users:

Before:
🎁 You had to keep rewatching ads to get a random gift
🎁 You could only unlock 1 save slot for 30 minutes

After:
You will be now able to unlock specific powers with a reward ad!
The gift box will now give you 3 random powers as well!
Unlockable save files will now be unlocked all at once and for 3 hours
🎁 Finally the interstitial ads won't show up so often - if you just watched a reward there won't be an interstitial ad waiting right away for you

Changes to maps
Then about 🗺️ our maps - they received a big overhaul. We changed the way we save them, which should clear up memory when saving big maps, and it will also reduce map file-sizes by 10-90%.

Changes to Vsync
🖥️ And last but not least, the return of the VSync option on PC/Mac/Linux, with some fixes. Previously if you had a monitor running at more than 60hz, and you turned VSync on, then the game would run super-fast on some devices. Hopefully that's fixed now. In any case, you only need to use VSync if you experience screen tearing.

Hi @everyone , guess what! We have update 0.9.4 out now. It's called Little Pyro Patch and it has various stability fixes.

Among other things it fixes stuck tornadoes - which are unstuck now. It also fixes the 🧨 pyromaniac trait not doing anything for civ units. 🏹 invincible archers that came out from boats should be fixed and 🏗️ buildings not showing construction sprites should show them again. There are also many stability fixes to saves/loads and balancing adjustments to ads.

What's new gameplay wise?

• Soldiers and civ units with the pyromaniac trait will now try and burn down enemy 🏘️ homes and 🧑‍🌾 fields
  - Bandits ran out of and will now be much smarter about the 🧨 fire bombs they're throwing

This mostly hotfix patch - is now out for Windows, 🍏 Mac and 🐧 Linux.
It will be rolling out to Android and iOS shortly!

After the chaos erupted yesterday, There been some talks about it in the staff channel, And I decided to make an announcement to bring
some clarity and explain changes that been made.

First of I want to explain that Banishment was added for us staff to prevent mass warning people in #🌎general for posting memes there.
Don't Necessarily see Banishment as a punishment, rather a slap on the fingers.

I also want to explain the changes,

1: Banishment no longer takes your perms of talking in #🌎general away. It will now only take away your image perms and external emoji perms.

2: A verbal must first been given before a Banishment is made. I hope this will calm some people down regarding the banishment now we will do verbals before a banishment.

For those who are unaware what a verbal is, Verbal means we ask you to stop doing whatever rule your breaking, for example your posting memes without value to the convo in General, we ask you to move it to #🤡memes etc. You refuse doing so, or continue after a while or so again, you will receive the Banishment.

This is the way to bring tech AKA knowledges into WorldBox and make kingdoms more unique. Later we would bring more rare knowledges to further improve this mechanic

Depending on culture - units would change their clothes

UFOs have pilots now

And finally you can see the colors of the kingdom's units and understand who is fighting who in battles

Hey @everyone

Small announcement. We are working hard on the next update and multiple separate features(don’t ask mastef about it), which will be a pretty big one. Stay tuned and expect some sneak peeks soon!

Sometimes people ask why content updates take so long. As the game evolves and more features are added - some of the old code becomes hard to deal with and needs to be adapted. It requires big changes under the hood.

If you played the game like a factorio - it’s a bit like rewiring 50% of your factories and conveyor belts, while keeping half of them not touched and working. It’s a subtle job, which could bring non-obvious new bugs, which also take time to fix. Like cats attacking mages in cold blood.

As a result, this rewiring work would make next updates easier to make and maintain.
It also makes the life of the modders much easier. And modding support we hope to improve a lot after steam release and workshop integration.

In the last year we reworked some of these parts of the code. And now working on another big chunk of these improvements

We released 0.13.6 recently for Android & iOS, and are currently rolling out 0.13.7 which is already live on Steam. These come with smaller patches and improvements.

If you have a Samsung device with a S-Pen - you should be able to use your pen now to draw your worlds! Other issues that were fixed were soft-crash issues and other stability and performance fixes.

There has been a new update :

For iOS and Steam :
0.14.3. It fixed druids being too nice to bandits and orcs. It also has some smaller performance and stability changes. #📓patch-notes

Now important for <@&954372781993238548> users :
Since today there's a new version out for Android: 0.14.5 because the last releases caused a lot of crashes due to some external libraries going crazy. Please update to 0.14.5 if your game crashed a lot!
