From my knowledge it's used as a currency that spreads out amongst the kingdoms people and occasionally gets transferred to other kingdoms through trade by boat.

no, the best way to unlock them is to place a monolith down in their area and wait.

Within 2 in game years typically, the monolith will mutate a species into their sapient form if they have one.

in the saves folder you'll find folders named "save1, save2, etc"
ignore all those, those are the save files you already have. Make a new folder formatted the same as the other save folders (ex: "save3")

put the map.wbox file you downloaded in there

you should be able to load the map after opening worldbox, don't worry if the save slot appears blank
