So I’m in public sector, it tends to prefer tenure even if your experience is like within one government agency/org. It was really just persistence, having to tailor resumes based on the duty statement, and get more credentials in the meantime to get an edge and stand out

And I briefly took a role at my same classification at that time instead of trying for a job 2 ranks up which I did qualify for at that time but couldn’t get

Reverse engineering does seem logical, since you’d be decompiling code for analysis and stuff if you go down the forensic route

Otherwise the other route I think is like application testing side

You can check if computer forensics interests you by seeing like autospy or something and analyzing a vm disk

my cybersec BS covered DFIR but as far as digital forensics goes, reverse engineering was very loosely covered. even looking at my compsci MS catalog (i haven't started yet) it doesn't have a class that really covers DFIR or RE at all.

Most of it you have to learn OJT in a SOC or something or on your own
