Platform Performance Update:

If you are subscribed on TryHackMe, your machines will automatically deploy quicker and with more resources. If you are not subscribed, it will deploy with the same (lower) resources as normal.

Tests have shown that this upgrade to subscribers, (most) machines will deploy <1 minute... non-subscribers deployed machines can still take up to 5 minutes.

Lots of you have requested this, so I implemented it today... Oh and rooms look slightly different.

To help with room quality control, you can no longer release your room publically without it being evaluated by a TryHackMe 'Tester'.

From now, if you make a room public it will automatically go into a submission phase. We can then give you feedback to ensure the room is perfect before releasing. Once the room has been checked and you've gone through the 'room development cycle', the room will be made public to everyone.

Private rooms can still be simply accessed with a room code - no checking needed on private rooms!

Monthly points are changing from tomorrow

Listening to the communities feedback, we have decided to change how the Monthly points are allocated.

Completing rooms gets you a certain number of points. A breakdown of how questions are scored as as follow:

ANSWERED SCORE
1st to answer 200 points
2nd to answer 180 points
3rd to answer 175 points
4th to answer 165 points
After 4th 150 points

Every question answered gets you an additional "wiggle" score, where there is between 0 and 20 random extra points added. However, if the room type is a walkthrough room, you only get 25% of those points. Challenge room’s receive 100%.

All points you get are added to your β€˜All-time’ score, however not all points are added to your β€˜Monthly’ score (which is reset to 0 on the last day of the month 23:59 GMT). You only get monthly points if a room has been released during that month. This stops new users being able obtain large amounts of points as they have more rooms to solve than older users - by monthly points only being awarded if a room is released this month, everyone has a fair chance to be number 1 on the β€˜Monthly’ leaderboard and everyone has an equal chance to be number 1 on the β€˜All-time’ leaderboard.

HI all, to make your in-browser experience as good as it can possibly be, I am going to take the server (not TryHackMe but the guacamole server) offline. Running machines will not be effected. In the future I will autoscale it, so things like this wont happen (and I wont have to remove in-browser functionality).

Hey all,

We sent an email a few days ago about a few pathway updates. The changes have now been made. If you didn't get the email, please read below:

This Sunday (today) we're updating the "Complete Beginner" pathway. To ensure the content is kept up to date and gives you the best learning experience, we will be reshuffling some sections and adding/removing rooms. Nothing major will change, however if you're wondering why a room you previously completed isn't in the pathway anymore, this is why.

We're merging the "Primer Series" pathway into the other pathways present on TryHackMe. While the Primer Series contains some great rooms, we're repositioning them to fit better overall within the structured learning provided. This will be removed Sunday (today), however, the rooms will still be available as always on their own as well.

🟒 Streaks Calc - Streaks are now calculated in your timezone and reset at mightnight the next day (not every 24 hours). However, this only effects new signups.

🟒 AttackBox Load Balancing - Due to the overwhelming number of you doing AoC, we've added some load balancing into the AttackBox, it should be less-laggy now.

🟒 Pathway Bug Fixed - The pathway loading bug is now fixed.

Hi folks, after a handful of complaints regarding the MAL: Introductory & MAL: Researching rooms having expired content over the last few days, I've taken a look and confirmed this. To resolve this, I've taken the following steps (as the room creator):

MAL: Introductory (https://tryhackme.com/room/malmalintroductory)

  1. Issue: Hashtab settings
    Solution: Hashtab has been updated & configured appropriately for the answers to the questions to display correctly.

  2. Issue: Pending windows updates
    Solution: Patches have been made to the VM & made live. Further notifications for windows update have been disabled via group policy

  3. Non-standard Hostname
    Solution: Hostname has been changed to intro-malware-analysis as per THM content guidelines. You may have to update your RDP connection for this (if you aren't using the in-browser RDP on the site)

MAL: Researching (https://tryhackme.com/room/malresearching)

  1. Issue: The report for the sample submitted shows a "service errror" / 404 on any.run -- meaning that Task 4 is impossible to complete
    Solution: I'm making this room private for the next couple of days (starting from 30/05/21) as an entire new task will need to be written. I'm taking steps to make sure that the report for the sample won't expire for the future, however, because so much content needs to be changed, it must go through the room review process again. I will announce when it is made public again over the next few days.

Thanks to those who've taken the time to report these -- sorry for the inconvenience to everyone else attempting the room.
