I have never lived in a home like this, but yeah most ISPs softly demand their own router/wifi in your house. I'm pretty sure you can get out of it but most don't know any better

I'm not sure if you are the payment holder of the ISP contract, but if so, do everything in your power to get rid of their router and just use your own. But yeah idk your situation

For perspective we have dual redundant ISPs at my house rn for work from home purposes with two dedicated subnets/VLANS, one work and one home, with failover to the shitter ISP if our personal craps out. This is getting quite a bit more advanced but also is more what you'd see at a business
