I'm having an issue myself, where it seems every minute or maybe a bit longer I start getting time-outs, / ping stops working, then another 60 seconds later or so it comes back

every few minutes this will do an 'inactivity timeout' which from what I read is just a default 5 min thing for openvpn but it reconnects a lot faster than my connection and doesn't always eem to relate

not every server you deploy will be a website, and not all websites will be on the default port, make sure to read the instructions associated and sometimes it takes a while for the servers to start, post screenshots in the relevant help room with as much information as possible

Do you have a machine "Deployed"?
Does that machine actually have SSH or respond to pings? Is there a specific task you are trying to complete?
What errors are you getting?

Good morning, having some issues connecting to the openvpn

What do I expect?

To connect to THM vpn network

What is happening

Im not connecting, always timing out

Steps to reproduce

Downloaded openvpn config file imported and connected to it via the OpenVPN GUI

What have I tried?

Connected to my other network
Change openvpn servers from THM
ReInstalled OpenVPN
Ran as administrator
Im using windows btw)

I'm new to tryhackme and currently going through the "linux fundamentals part 2" room where you have to ssh into the machine. When i click deploy, the active machine title says "Linux Walkthrough (SSH-Only)" but after 1 minute when the IP address shows the title changes to "Linux Walkthrough (web-based)" and i can't ssh in. I'm assuming this is the wrong machine. Could anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks!

If you are using the TryHackMe VMs and you are recieving an "Authentication Failure" error, please follow these steps:

Terminate the attack box
Load one of the Kali VMs and terminate it once it has loaded,
Boot the attack box up again :)

Make sure you are on Linux, cuz sudo command won't work on Windows

If didn't work: make sure "/path-to-file/file-name.ovpn" actually points to the file that you downloaded from TryHackMe.

If that didn't work try redownloading the file-name.ovpn

If not, ping for more assistance.

I'm having some trouble maintaining a stable connection using OpenVPN. I've tried different servers and made sure OpenVPN was a current version, tried restarting the OpenVPN service, restarting my computer etc.

I ended up getting to the point where I ran the troubleshooting script and the results are as follows:

Stable internet connection

OpenVpn installed tun0 exists tun 0 ip is in the correct range only one instance of open vpn is running

then, confirming connectivity and finally, something went wrong

Anything I'm missing here?

Well now the troubleshooter is saying I am connected, so I'll see what happens.

It appears all is well now. I suppose I should have spent a few more minutes messing around with it. Ultimately the issue was an instance of openvpn being open that wasnt actually connected, so when I tried to connect with another instance of openvpn, things got weird... so, derp.

If you are using the TryHackMe VMs and you are recieving an "Authentication Failure" error, please follow these steps:

Terminate the attack box
Load one of the Kali VMs and terminate it once it has loaded,
Boot the attack box up again :)
